Presented by Fly Racing Broc Tickle's FIM suspension for his failed drug test at the 2018 San Diego Supercross ends next week, February 10, 2020, and the former Western Regional 250 Supercross Champion will make his return to racing at the February 15 Tampa Supercross. In preparation for his comeback, Tickle had assembled an impressive Husqvarna FC 450 race bike with help from AEO Powersports, Twisted Development Racing, and REP Suspension but as luck would have it, a fill-in ride with the JGRMX Suzuki team presented itself and it looks like we'll see a yellow number 20 bike next weekend in Florida. We phoned Broc up this evening to get an update on how things are progressing, and to chat about the excellent team he had assembled before he was presented with a factory fill in.
Presented by Ogio Powersports There was no racing in the United States this weekend, so we phoned up Broc Tickle for this quick Ogio Powersports How Was Your Weekend Podcast to see how his preparations for the Tampa Supercross are coming along. Tickle's suspension will lift on 2/10/20, and he is planning to contest the last 2/3 of the Monster Energy Supercross series aboard a privateer Husqvarna with backing from AEO Powersports and FXR Racing. After we chatted about the Post Malone concert he went to on Saturday night, Tick got into the nitty gritty of what it's gonna take to make a serious return to racing in February.
For Broc Tickle, the last two years have been something quite different than the rest of his career. In 2011 he won the 250 West title, and he's been a reliable top ten rider in both the 250 and 450 classes ever since. After being on the sidelines for nearly the last two years following a positive test for a banned stimulant, he's counting down the days until February tenth. That's when he'll be able to return to action. While he's been looking forward to lining up again at the races, he's been helping train other riders, while also ramping up his own training and riding program. At this point, he doesn't have a ride lined up, but he'll be ready to rock in case something comes up.

Jason Weigandt chats with author Brett Smith about the most expensive photo in motocross history—the million-to-one Ricky Carmichael shot, taken from the stands, that led to an Oakley billboard in Los Angeles—a rare boost of mainstream exposure. Smith penned the story for the latest issue of Racer X Illustrated—"One Hit Wonder," which you can read right now at digital.racerxonline.com—and joins Weigandt for a chat about the process of tracking down a story no one understood in full. Even the photographer himself had no idea how his photo ended up becoming part of a famous Oakley ad campaign! Later, Weigandt also chats with Davey Coombs about the story he wrote in our new issue, "Waiting for Answers," which you can read right now at digital.racerxonline.com. In the article, DC gives the latest update on Broc Tickle's WADA anti-doping case. Coombs talks about the latest developments with the AMA, FIM, WADA, drug testing in the sport, and what he thinks is coming next. The Racer X Exhaust podcast is presented by Yoshimura.
In 2019, consumers have the chance to own something truly special when it comes to motocross machinery. Three manufacturers - Honda, Husqvarna, and KTM - produce special edition versions of their popular 450 motocross bikes that offer greater value and performance than the standard versions. We gathered the 2019 Honda CRF450R Works Edition, the 2019.5 Husqvarne Rockstar Edition FC 450, and the 2019.5 KTM 450 SX0F Factory Edition machines, and compared them back to back with a testing crew of four riders of varying size, age, and skill. While Broc Tickle brought the star power, the testing experience shared by Editor in Chief Donn Maeda and Senior Test Rider Pat Foster, plus 20-year testing veteran Kyle Puerner helped round out the panel for this comprehensive comparison.

When Broc Tickle was provisionally suspended by the FIM for a failed anti-doping test under the WADA code, it rekindled all the complex conversations about drug testing in this sport. Fallout and finger-pointing came quickly, and even though many fans and industry sponsors pledged support for Tickle, he's still suspended for an indefinite matter of time, and he still lost his ride with Red Bull KTM. (Aldon Baker was Tickle's trainer at the time of the failed test, so his name often gets pulled into the fracas as well.) In June, we phoned Tickle to get his side of the story while researching a feature on the topic for the latest issue of Racer X Illustrated. That story—"Lights Out"—can be read in our September issue, out now. For this episode of the Racer X Exhaust podcast, we present the full interview with Tickle. The Racer X Exhaust Podcast is presented by Yoshimura.

Berluti is in studio, Yayyyyyyy!
Jason Weigandt is joined by Davey Coombs and Roy Janson for a history lesson on how both the FIM and AMA ended up co-sanctioning the supercross championship. In 2001, the AMA announced it would split with the existing supercross promoters, thus setting off a business battle that ended up in the courtroom—and also led the existing promoters to a masterstroke move of turning supercross into an FIM World Championship. Janson was a vice-president at Clear Channel Entertainment, the supercross promoters at the time, and Coombs was an AMA board member as well as the pit reporter for the SX TV broadcasts (and of course the founder and editor-in-chief of Racer X Illustrated). They provide key insider stories and analysis of the moves that led supercross to the AMA and FIM sanction that it still uses today. They also shed light on WADA drug testing in supercross and USADA drug testing in pro motocross, in light of the recent suspension of Broc Tickle. The Racer X Exhaust Podcast is sponsored by Yoshimura.
