Corazon Mining Ltd (ASX:CZN) managing director Brett Smith joins Jonathan Jackson in the Proactive studio to discuss an agreement to expand its landholding in Manitoba, Canada, by acquiring three drill-defined zinc-copper-gold deposits near its flagship Lynn Lake nickel-copper-cobalt sulphide project. This strategic acquisition increases Corazon's portfolio within the Lynn Lake region to seven zinc-copper-gold deposits and enhances the potential for Lynn Lake to become a regional polymetallic processing hub, focusing on critical minerals like zinc and copper. The MacBride deposit, the highlight of this acquisition, features significant historically published metal endowment with continuity from the surface to approximately 300 metres. Drilling results include 10.7 metres at 9.98% zinc and 0.56% copper from 32.9 metres and 4.9 metres at 9.86% zinc and 0.20% copper from 119.8 metres. The Wellmet Prospect shows numerous surface copper occurrences and electromagnetic conductors. Notable drill results include 4.2 metres at 6.20% zinc and 0.91% copper from 36.1 metres. The Barrington Prospect has shown copper mineralisation in sparse exploration drilling. Corazon's strategy includes potentially restarting mining at Lynn Lake with a focus on low operational costs and leveraging high-grade zinc-copper deposits. Historical mining in the Lynn Lake region dates back to the 1940s, focusing on nickel sulphide, volcanogenic zinc-copper-gold massive sulphide and orogenic gold. Corazon will acquire the mineral tenure for C$153,600 (~A$168,000) with the vendor, PC Dunlop, retaining a 2% net smelter royalty. Corazon retains the right to purchase up to 1% of this royalty. Initial due diligence of the project areas has been completed.

Join Volker Nolte as he talks about his latest book - Rowing Science. https://amzn.to/3QhyHSE Timestamps 01:00 Volker has written two editions of the Rowing Faster book and now a third! This is part of the Rowing Science book series published by Sport Kinetics. 03:00 Volker has brought a group of experts together to write different chapters in the book with him editing it. He thinks it is much better having a diverse team to layer down the topic comprehensively. 04:30 This is a follow up to Rowing Faster - first published in 2005 and focused on coaching. The second edition of Rowing Faster included Olympic Gold medalists writing introductions to the chapters. 06:00 In this era of misinformation it's important that rowing is presented in scientific and well researched way to set straight some of the misunderstandings and bad information. Ideas like "even splitting" in races are a good example of this.Volker took scientific data and analysed it and can prove that it's misguided to see to even split a rowing race. Rowing needs this book now 09:00 Too often stylistic differences in rowing are presented as facts. Volker believes rowing science helps by giving the reader ways to understand using a speed coach. Analysing speed and stroke rates allows you to see if there are correlations. 12:00 What is rowing science? Try different things in the boat and by testing you will learn about what is effective. Create knowledge about the physical and social part of rowing using theories which get empirically tested and assessed. Prove things by measuring. 14:30 All rowers will benefit - get comfort in the boat, some speed and learn from Rowing Science. 3 Things a Rowing Coach will learn Volker did a Q&A with a club recently and all the questions were answered in the book! All rowers have questions and want to know answers. Every chapter has things you can tae with you for your rowing practice. 17:00 Is lactate positive or negative? This is an area where Volker has revised his thoughts based on new science. He explains that lactate is a source of energy and is positive, the pain burn comes from the acid which comes with the lactate. Paula Jardine and Gunnar Treff write about this. - Brett Smith presents his ideas about how New Zealand rowing is so successful. - Penny Werthner writes about team culture and its importance, how to create it. - Volker's chapter is about rowing blades and what each type does. 20:30 The art of coaching rowing The book title should make you excited - Paula Jardine brings ideas about how the brain works to learn new technique using repetitions. Learn rowing by letting people do it and the more often they do it, the better they get. Coaches talk too long when working with beginners. The art of coaching is to involve everyone as much as possible. On top of this, there is no art without science. You have to know how rowing fits together, know what you're talking about. Develop your own art on top of the science. Most rowing is based on similar theories, the better athletes are using the best theories. 26:00 Copying someone else's coaching method doesn't usually work. Experienced coaches should not feel threatened by less experienced coaches who want to video them, learn from them. Sharing your expertise as a coach should be seen as a threat. A new coach can't replace you. 28:30 Volker learned from mentors, including Thor Nielsen. He invited Volker to Italy to his training centre. After watching Thor coach, he asked what he was doing inviting guest rowers, guest coaches and sharing his knowledge. You're telling them your training plan and allowing them to take your secrets. Thor said, "You cannot grab something with a closed fist." This was a concept that I really like - I offer all that I know in the book Rowing Science. Brett R. Smith, Ph. D. is the Founding Research Director of the the L.I.F.E Research Lab at Miami University in Oxford, Ohio (L.I.F.E =Leading the Integration of Faith & Entrepreneurship). His program explores how spirituality and business can indeed be interwoven together for a more fulfilling professional and personal journey. The program's birth at a public University was unlikely, but after hearing about Brett's journey, his calling to teach, his deep faith, and the seeds that God planted in his life, it all makes perfect sense. Matt and Brett delve into his early roles, experiences with corporate and start ups, and finally his transformation to Miami University where, with his commitment and drive, he has led a flourishing program that has opened the minds of students in a unique and powerful classroom experience. The L.I.F.E. curriculum provides guidance, experience, and knowledge in social entrepreneurship and how faith can live in that environment. For anyone who has experience in starting something new, you know there will be high and lows. What the L.I.F.E. program suggests is that our faith can be an asset for survival. Faith is what let Brett to Miami, it is what shines light into his marriage to Laura (guest on 11/16/20) and into his role as a father to four kids, and it is what continues to provide guide posts as new challenges and opportunities fall on the path at Miami. Brett candidly shares some obstacles including how he faced health scares and question marks, but also how these challenges and set backs have been stepping stones to growth and insights to making decisions, arming him with more awareness that our clock is always ticking. This episode is a must-listen for all who are seeking courage to listen to our callings and are curious about how to harmoniously blend faith with their careers. To learn more about Brett, visit the Miami of Ohio University website. His achievements have also been featured in Time, Business Week, Financial Times,  CNN, MSNBC and he has been asked to speak at the United Nations, the Nelson Mandela Foundation, Tedx Youth, and a number of leading universities. 'Working hard to grow sustainably': Counter Culture's Brett Smith on the changing coffee landscape

Making Marketing

The coffee business changed overnight when the pandemic first hit, and Counter Culture Coffee has been rolling with the punches. This week on the Modern Retail Podcast, Counter Culture founder and president Brett Smith spoke about where the industry is going and how his company has evolved over more than two decades. Counter Culture, which first launched in 1994, was one of the first roasters to focus on direct trade, meaning it took great pride in working directly with coffee growers and suppliers. "What we felt was important was to go down that supply chain and really understand the source, the farmers," Smith said. "Because we felt like there was an opportunity to, in essence, have a conversation with the suppliers." At the time, roasters directly sourcing from growers and including them in their consumer-facing marketing was unheard of. But it's now become commonplace, and Counter Culture was one of the early businesses doing such practices. According to Smith, the fact that coffee companies like Counter Culture have become known for their ethical sourcing is a nice after-effect. he didn't intend for it to be such a big marketing hook. "The litmus test is are we going to do this if no one knows about it, will we still do it?" he said. Now, the market has changed. It's table stakes for most higher-end coffee roasters to tout their direct supply chain relations. What's more, the way people buy coffee has changed. Counter Culture first grew by partnering with restaurants. Then, it expanded to coffee shops. And it evangelized its business via local training centers it opened around the country. Here, baristas can stop by to learn about the products, and even average customers can stop by to get a sense for what the business is about. Today, Counter Culture has over a dozen training centers in cities like New York, Los Angeles and Chicago. When the pandemic hit, Counter Culture's wholesale business cratered by 90%, but its direct-to-consumer revenue soared. Now, things are leveling off. But Smith said that he is focused on new areas of growth -- including airports and grocery. All of this means the company is still growing, but Smith is trying to figure out how to handle the growth sustainably. For example, he's expanding his facilities to better handle grocery and DTC orders -- which were straining the business due to their different packaging sizes. "I think that the growth question is, ultimately, it comes down to working hard to grow sustainably. Would we all like to double every year? Yeah, in a certain way. But you got to understand what that means," he said. "You got to understand where is that going to create pressure? Where's that going to potentially compromise a long-term relationship?"
