Myrtle Fillmore wrote, “God's love and wisdom are our ever-present assurance of peace and well-being." Assurance shows up when we have an inner realization of our divine nature and combine that with conscious spiritual practice to demonstrate how our thoughts and words are aligned with spiritual truth. This week, Dr. Tracy Brown, RScP dares us to consider whether we are using spiritual principle and spiritual practice to escape from our challenges, or to navigate them? If you are ready to live from blessed assurance, you don't want to miss this talk! | Devotional by Tracy Brown (based on the book “40 Days of Decrease: A Different Kind of Hunger, A Different Kind of Fast” by Alicia Britt Chole) : Day Twenty-Five / 40 Days Of Decrease Fast James 4:8 reminds us that God will draw near to us when we draw near to him. When you feel surrounded by heartache and life struggles today, remember that you can bring these feelings to him like Jesus did in the garden of Gethsemane.
| Devotional by Tracy Brown (based on the book “40 Days of Decrease: A Different Kind of Hunger, A Different Kind of Fast” by Alicia Britt Chole) : Day Seven / 40 Days Of Decrease Fast | Did you know that while there are forty different references to food in the Bible, there are seventy to fasting? Today we will be fasting a meal. The reason for this practice is so that we can take our physical hunger for food and turn it into a spiritual hunger for Jesus. While you do this today, ask God to give you more of a longing for Him.

Local environmental groups react to freezes and rollbacks In a whirlwind of executive orders on his first day in office, newly re-elected President Donald Trump ordered that the U.S. drop out of the international Paris Climate Agreement, end subsidies for electric vehicles, halt approval of new wind farms, block the enforcement of environmental justice laws, shut down the American Climate Corps and to reconsider whether the greenhouse gases that drive climate change are pollutants, settled science for over a century. "The failure of a lot of people was believing that Trump's campaign rhetoric was more exaggerated than what his actions would be," said David Toman, executive director at Hudson River Sloop Clearwater. "Nobody in the country should assume differently anymore." Officials at Clearwater, Scenic Hudson and Riverkeeper - three major environmental nonprofits based in the Hudson Valley - said they knew from Trump's first term support for fossil-fuel energy and his promises and affiliations on the campaign trail, that a second term would be difficult for the environmental movement. There was also concern about Project 2025, which many felt provided an outline for what a second Trump administration would undertake, said Pete Lopez of Scenic Hudson, a former regional director for the Environmental Protection Agency. An online project called Project 2025 Tracker estimates that a third of the plan's objectives have been enacted since Trump returned to the White House on Jan. 20, including eliminating the EPA Office of Environmental Justice and External Civil Rights. Local environmental groups were prepared to see regulatory rollbacks. But funding freezes and layoffs - Trump said in a cabinet meeting on Feb. 26 that EPA staffing will be cut by 65 percent over the next month, although the White House said he meant to say the budget would be cut by 65 percent - had led them to reconsider what they will be able to accomplish. "This all just feels really reckless," said Tracy Brown, the executive director of Riverkeeper. Her organization had finally started to get federal funding for an ongoing project to remove the thousands of abandoned dams that litter Hudson River tributaries, hampering fish migration and water quality. "These are expensive to remove," she said. Thanks to a $3.8 million grant from the National Fish and Wildlife Foundation, Riverkeeper has begun work on the removal of a dam in Quassaick Creek in Newburgh. But with this type of grant, the government doesn't provide the money up front. Instead, groups pay for the work and are reimbursed. Brown said they heard the funds were frozen, and then that they weren't. "We won't know for sure until we submit our next round of expenses," she said. Riverkeeper's annual operating budget is $5 million. Doing $3.8 million worth of work, and not being paid for it, would be disastrous. "This starts to create a real risk for groups," she said. Toman decided the risk was too great for Clearwater, which abandoned its efforts to secure federal grants to pay for maintenance that the Coast Guard requires on its eponymous sloop every five to seven years. Lopez said that Scenic Hudson is trying to figure out what promised funds it still has access to. One project in jeopardy is the connection of the Westchester RiverWalk to the Tarrytown MTA station. There's also indirect funding. Much of Clearwater's revenue comes from schools that book educational sails. The group is only now pulling itself out of a tailspin caused by schools canceling trips after the 2008 financial crisis and the pandemic. Trump has said he plans to block any federal funding to schools that have vaccine mandates and to eliminate the Department of Education. Toman and others fear that could create funding squeezes that eliminate student excursions. Lopez said that Scenic Hudson is structured so that none of its employee salaries are dependent on federal grants. The same can't be said for the agencies it works with. ...

Unity Principle #2 reminds us: “I am naturally good because God's Divinity is in me and in everyone.” Tracy Brown is back, with a reminder that beauty is not limited to what we see in movies and marketing. The majority of us were raised by parents with unhealed wounds. As a result, we can end up wearing ‘masks' to be who we think we need to be to fit into our family and our society, while we ignore or bury our own feelings. Our guest today shares a new roadmap for how to heal old wounds, let go of false beliefs, and release generational trauma. These avenues guided Tracy toward her ultimate calling as an Adult Chair Life Coach. While becoming certified in the Adult Chair model Tracy received her deepest healing. Now she seamlessly blends her diverse expertise and personal healing path to support women in reclaiming their authentic selves. Her mission is to empower women to embrace their truth, dissolve limiting beliefs, and transcend generational trauma. Although eating disorder recovery requires behaviour change and a focus on food, it also requires psychological and mindset work. If this part of recovery is not addressed, you are at risk of being stuck in a quasi-recovered place or simply thinking that 'recovery doesn't work for me'. Although eating disorder recovery requires behaviour change and a focus on food, it also requires psychological and mindset work. If this part of recovery is not addressed, you are at risk of being stuck in a quasi-recovered place or simply thinking that 'recovery doesn't work for me'. This is part one of what is going to be a two-part series (but may become three or four!) on all things psychology and mindset in eating disorder recovery. I talk about early life, emotional coping, emotional intelligence and learning to process emotions in a healthy way. I hope that you find it helpful. Today I'm talking to Katie Horwitch. Katie is a writer, speaker, mindset coach, and women's empowerment activist. She is the founder of WANT: Women Against Negative Talk, a platform that gives women tips, tools, motivation, and inspiration to move forward in their lives fearlessly, by shifting their negative self-talk patterns. She is also the host of WANTcast: The Women Against Negative Talk Podcast (currently in its eighth year). Katie's new book- Want Your Self, Katie offers a new approach to help you shift your negative self-talk patterns in a real, lasting way that goes beyond just “speaking nicely to yourself.” Because self-talk isn't positive or negative it's the story you are telling yourself, so you have to start there. This wise, compassionate, and pragmatic guide, filled with Katie's own personal stories and journey, distills the concept of “self-talk” down to its core. The book provides a fresh and much-needed perspective on not only how to shift your negative self-talk at the deepest levels, but how to make that shift last in the face of real life. In the episode today, we're going to explore Katie's personal journey which led her to this passion towards ‘women against negative self-talk' and understand what inspired her to support others through creating her incredible resources, podcast and book. Katie discusses the difference between self-like versus self-love; things to do when you're in an overwhelm storm and how we can truly change our negative talk to find a more compassionate, supportive and motivating inner voice. I know that so many of you struggle with negative self-talk and this episode is going to inspire you with lots of wisdom, skills and strategies to shift this. I hope that you enjoy it. On January 31, 2022, some would say industry history was made when Chicago Public Media, owners of the PBS affiliate WBEZ announced the acquisition of the iconic, daily tabloid: The Chicago Sun-Times. Chicago Public Media raised $61 million in multiyear philanthropic commitments for the acquisition and then transitioned the publication to nonprofit ownership. At the time of the announcement the New York Times reported that the merger of: “The hard-hitting tone of tabloid journalism and the measured voice of public radio make for an unlikely combination.” Tim Franklin, senior associate dean of Northwestern University's Medill journalism school and the former president of the Poynter Institute stated: “It's kind of hard to overstate how profound this development is. I think in some ways it could be a model for the nation.” Just a few months later, more industry “history” was made with the announcement of the hiring of Jennifer Kho, former managing editor of HuffPost and Guardian US, as the paper's executive editor. Kho was the first woman and the first person of color to lead its newsroom. Since Kho's appointment, there have been many changes at the paper, that include the dropping of their paywall for access to all digital content. A “right to be forgotten” policy, that allows people who have been reported on to seek a review and possibly have stories removed from internet searches. And the addition of twelve Sun-Times' “Next Voices,” who are guest columnists that were selected from reader submitted entries. In this episode of E&P Reports, we check in with Chicago Public Media, owners of PBS affiliate WBEZ, to find out how their 2022 acquisition of the 149-year-old Chicago Sun-Times is going. Appearing on the program are Jennifer Kho, executive editor for the newspaper and Tracy Brown, chief content officer for the parent company, who discuss their new initiatives, collaborative efforts and how the blending of these two major market brands is working to expand their audience.
Tracy Brown and Clay Caffey of Coy's Southern Eats dropped in to tell us about the rebirth of one of the iconic restaurant brands in Arkansas history -- Coy's Steak House -- and where that might lead beyond the spices and other products, they're selling online.
Tracy Brown, president of Riverkeeper, argues that the Army Corps of Engineers' massive flood protection plan for the New York/New Jersey harbor is flawed and needs revision before being submitted to Congress, scheduled for this summer.
Have you been following the Ozempic or Wegovy weight loss drug trends that are skyrocketing in our culture? It seems like it may be the "miracle solution" every dieter has dreamed of. It's not a pill, but a shot that you can take that seems to melt the weight right off. In today's show we're going to talk about what these drugs really do to the body, what the side effects are (and there are a lot of them), and how they may not actually address the real issues behind body image issues that connect to weight. Here are some of the important data points from today: Wegovy/Ozempic are semaglutide that mimic the GLP-1 Hormone to help lower your blood sugar and suppress your appetite and slows your digestion. You still have to diet and exercise to lose weight on these drugs. There are so many potentially dangerous or lifestyle devastating side effects of these drugs, it's important to understand the physical costs of these drugs. There may also be a risk of all the side effects that come with calorie restriction, aside from and along with the side effects of the medication. Here are the episode I did with Tracy Brown on the effects of disordered eating and eating disorders on our bodies. Did Your Dieting Hurt Your Body? Feat. Tracy Brown and Stomach, GI Tract Issues That Connect to Dieting & Disordered Eating These drugs are also expensive, especially if you don't have diabetes or another condition where insurance will help pay for it. Weight loss can't fix eating disorders, trauma, or body image issues. Check out this USA Today article: https://www.usatoday.com/story/news/health/2023/04/02/downside-weight-loss-medication-side-effects-big-pharma/11464954002/ What "Ozempic Face" is and how it's being "fixed" and how this proves that weight loss alone doesn't fix our body image issues. From the USA Today piece linked above: "In the longest study, lasting 68 weeks – about 16 months – weight loss plateaued and started to climb again by the end, suggesting people's bodies had acclimated to the drugs." If what is most dangerous for most of us, health wise, is weight cycling, not necessarily having a higher weight, is Ozempic/Wegovy the healthiest option? How hard it is to watch people melt away the weight with weight loss drugs, but remember that it costs something and may not last. It certainly can't solve the issues of the heart around our body image issues, envy, or even struggles with our worth. See omny.fm/listener for privacy information.
Today Heather continues her conversation with Tracy Brown, RD about the strange or unusual physical symptoms that can connect to dieting, food restriction, eating disorders, and disordered eating. Though some doctors fail to make the connections, it's clear from Tracy's work that many women who have this kind of history also have similar symptoms that show up in the form of GI tract or stomach issues that range from bloating, to IBS, to esophagus issues and other problems. Heather and Tracy explore the impact your diet or wellness plan may have secretly had on your digestive system. Heather shares about her autoimmune esophagus issues and related problems she's had with her GI tract. They talk about AFRID and other ways we can unknowingly create more problems for ourselves as we try to restrict foods that we think are to blame for the issues we are having. Heather shares what happened after she went for MRT testing to see what foods she was allergic to and how the further restriction may have caused even more problems. Tracy also digs into the threat response we create in our bodies when we fear eating certain foods or when past trauma connects with certain foods and we respond to them. There's so much interesting information in this episode-for education purposes only. Today Heather interviews Tracy Brown, registered dietitian and trauma-informed eating disorder recovery coach about all the physical issues that can accompany or follow seasons of dieting, disordered eating, or an eating disorder. Are you always cold? Have you experienced seasons of hair loss? Have you had joint or bone density issues? GI and digestive tract issues, no matter what you eat? Today Heather shares her story of several strange physical symptoms she's experienced over the years--from easily broken bones to esophagus issues--and how the decades of an unhealthy relationship with food have hit her with new symptoms and strange side effects, years later, even after she's recovered from disordered eating. In today's show, Heather and Tracy discuss issues like bone loss, muscle loss, joint issues, sexual health issues, fertility, and cardiac arrest and other heart issues. They also talk about how being malnourished (the technical way to look at dieting and calorie restriction of any kind) can cause hair loss, nail growth to stop, and your skin's appearance to change. Tracy explains how the human stress response acts as a protective mechanism to keep us alive by deciding which systems are most important to keep working. If your body only has a limited amount of resources and you are limiting food, the body has to choose whether or not to keep running your heart, lungs, and brain or to grow your hair. The body is smart enough to know that the heart, lungs, and brain are most important. Dieting Can Hurt Your Health: Physical, Mental, and Spiritual Heather and Tracy discuss how serious it is to put our bodies in a situation where it has to make this kind of choice. They also discuss how even without physical symptoms, there may be emotional and spiritual symptoms connected to months, years, or decades of disordered eating.
