A young couple becomes stuck in the remote town of Gatlin, Nebraska, where the inhabiting children practice a cult, killing anyone over 18 years old. Children of the Corn is the next film we discuss in The Kids Aren't Alright month. An adaptation of the 1977 short story by Stephen King, this movie features children forming a cult and killing off any adults in a remote town in Nebraska. While we were mixed on this movie, it was fun to see the differing power dynamics within a cult formed by children and how they all had different takes on the rules. Watching the young couple come into contact with the children was an interesting clash as they get to experience how far from the norm they've gone. It's the last episode in the current studio, and the crew showed up early — like 6 AM early — to send it off right. Joe somehow dragged himself in a week after having a baby, Russell made a rare appearance, and the whole gang got together one more time before the move. Things kicked off with Joe deep in his Black Instagram era, sharing everything from pineapple Kool-Aid trends to cartoon food culture, then somehow spiraling into a full debate about prom send-offs and whether a military tank is an appropriate way to send your kid to prom. From there the conversation went everywhere it had no business going — Drake's surprise triple album drop, the greatest rap albums of all time, the Michael Jackson biopic, MJ's allegations, Morgan Wallen saying the N-word, Chris Brown's ongoing controversies, Kanye's downfall, and the Kevin Hart roast. No topic was off limits and nobody held back. Classic Don't Be Sour energy from start to finish. The back half of the episode had the guys debating Pokémon games, GTA VI hype, what happened to Halo, and Joe's surprisingly detailed history of owning nine-foot pet pythons. They wrapped things up talking about My Fit Foods, meal prep, and what it actually feels like to get older, slow down on social media, and prioritize family. It was a good one. See you in the new studio.

A political leader and his wife start to believe something is wrong with their son and that he may be the son of the devil. We're starting off The Kids Aren't Alright month with The Omen. This is a movie where there's definitely a kid and he's nowhere near alright. Gregory Peck stars in this film and he's one of a few strong performances in a movie that has bizarre characters, crazy events, and creepy deaths. You won't find a movie with a kid much creepier than the one in this film. The tone of the film is ominous and it certainly holds up. A couple head to a cabin vacation home following a wedding and while experiencing relationship issues, they're surprised by masked intruders who make their night full of panic. The Strangers is the movie of discussion for the finale of Home Invasion month. When this movie came out, there was a lot of hype surrounding how real it felt as a home invasion movie, primarily due to the lack of motive from the intruders. We're uncertain the movie holds up from a terror perspective, but it's certainly entertaining, suspenseful, and a unique entry into home invasion horror movies. With solid performances from Liv Tyler, Scott Speedman, and a fun cameo from Glenn Howerton, The Strangers is a fun ride that will make you want to pause going on any remote cabin trips. A family who has profited off of selling security systems becomes the target of a violent, masked group during a 12-hour period called "The Purge" where all crime is legal.Home Invasion month kicks into high gear this week as we discuss The Purge. Ethan Hawke and Lena Heady star in this crazy film that introduces a dystopian society that has implemented an annual 12-hour period where all crime is legal. The thought process is that all aggression is aired out during these dangerous 12 hours, and many believe it heals the country. Although the concept is interesting, there are a lot of plot holes within the idea and the smaller story surrounding the family is also lacking. However, the movie is fun and entertaining all the way through. Keanu Reeves, Lorenza Izzo, and Ana de Armas star in this cat and mouse movie directed by Eli Roth. This film takes a loving family man's loyalty to his wife and kids to the brink as two young women drastically attempt to seduce and blackmail him. Three young burglars break into the home of a blind war vet in an attempt to steal money, but soon realize he's more than capable of defending himself.Don't Breathe is kicking off Home Invasion month and it's a movie that we saw in theaters upon release and are super happy to be revisiting it. After rewatching the movie, we still love how tense the movie becomes and how it makes you question who's worse as things start to really take a turn. It's shot so well as the focus is on these young burglars who attempt to tiptoe quietly around the house initially while he's home, believing his lack of sight will make him unable to detect them. Without too much screen time and based on dialogue and reactions from Norman, mother is a controlling influence in his life. Her influence makes Norman the sinister presence he is thoughout the movie. Hitchcock tells an interesting story overlaying element of a heist with horror and conveys a timeless twist that highlights identity and the effects of trauma. Kevin Bacon stars in this film as the head of a conversion camp, who has a welcoming smile, but a sinister way of handling the camp practices. A young girl finds herself trapped in her family's lake house while they're renovating and is haunted by a mysterious invader. In the fourth week of Staring into Holes month, we discuss Silent House, a psychological horror movie featuring Elizabeth Olsen in her first starring role. While this movie takes on the style of a continuous shot, it relies on acting and character developing to guide the narrative. Even though Olsen's performance is serviceable, there isn't enough happening in the movie to keep up the investment. The twist of the movie is highly predictable, especially if you've seen psychological horror films in the past, and profound character actions towards the end don't have the proper buildup. When a young girl is chosen to be a sacrifice by a worshipped pit in her backwoods community, she fights to survive even at the expense of those around her.Staring into Holes month continues with indie heater, Jug Face. This movie tells the unique story of a backwoods community that worships a pit in a forest. Sometimes when wrongdoing is amidst, the pit will call for a sacrifice, which is the case for the protagonist, Ada. Her struggle for survival after being a chosen sacrifice by the supernatural force causes significant harm to her community. This is a bizarre film that we've seen before and although we're mixed on this movie, it's certainly interesting and paints a picture of what a modern yet uncivilized community looks like; especially when a young girl is facing challenges when growing up and learning more about her world. Christmas marks the moment when the kindness and love of God appeared in history—but what happens after the lights come down and the season passes? In this episode, we journey through Titus 3, where Paul reminds the church that salvation is rooted not in righteous works, but in mercy, renewal, and the work of the Holy Spirit. From public conduct to private humility, this chapter shows us what it looks like to live as people shaped by grace in a watching world. This episode explores:Why remembering who we were produces humility todayHow the incarnation reshapes our public witnessWhy grace saves us from works-based righteousness—and for good worksHow the gospel forms communities marked by peace, unity, and fruitfulnessWith reflections inspired by N.T. Wright, Tim Keller, and the early church, this is a call to live out the implications of Christmas—not just during the season, but every day after.

Two children stay at their family cabin along with their father's girlfriend during a snowstorm. Tensions heighten when odd events occur which shakes their troubled relationship. The Lodge is a heavy movie that explores grief, loneliness, and guilt set in an isolated cabin in the middle of a snowstorm and delves into how these complex emotions can affect an already fragile relationship. The acting is great in this movie especially from Riley Keough, who plays Grace, a lone death cult survivor, who is trying to rebuild her life, but dealing with the lasting impact of her past. Shane's brother and frequent guest, Nick Smith, joins us to discuss how this movie creates a bleak atmosphere, builds tension, and delivers strong twists. A cloaked man pays Diane and her family a visit on Christmas Day and he ensures this is a Christmas they'll never forget. Every once in a while, there comes along a movie that has such a bizarre plot, you can't help, but watch it for the craziness. Red Christmas is not only a holiday horror movie, but it also has one of the weirdest, most insane slasher backstories we've ever heard of. In this movie, a cloaked man stalks a family during Christmas, however, the storyline is that he is an abortion survivor come back for the love of his mother. When the family doesn't accept him and throws him out of the house, he starts killing off the family one by one. While the movie has some bloody kills, it's the mess that we expected. Killer toys, programmed by an older toymaker who works along with his son, are designed to kill children.Silent Night, Deadly Night 5: The Toy Maker may be even more bizarre to watch than the last Silent, Deadly Night movie if it's possible. In a series with little to no continuity or identify, this installment features a drunken, elderly toymaker making toys programmed to kill children. A young boy appears to be the next target after the boy's father dies mysteriously from a toy left at their doorstep, and the event renders the boy mute. This movie is very fun to watch and has so many crazy storylines converging that are hard to make sense of. It all leads up to a few twists towards the end of the movie that are absolutely insane. While we have different opinions of this movie, we all agree it's very entertaining. After Winnie, puts an end to a killer in her town, life is meaningless. When she wishes she wasn't born under the aurora, she's transported to a parallel universe where life is going on without her and it's not promising. It's a Wonderful Knife is a Christmas horror slasher that is a parody of It's a Wonderful Life and pays homage with its own spin on the story. The film features the always amazing, Justin Long, as a greedy mayor who plots to take over the town of Angel Falls, and he is always fun to watch. While this film explores familiar themes we've seen before, it appears to struggle with plot. In any case, if you don't come for the story, you'll enjoy the laughs and the gore as the kill scenes are crazy. After the arrival of strange creatures who use their strong hearing to hunt, a family fights to stay alive by living their lives in silence. A Quiet Place is directed by John Kraskinsi, who also stars in the film alongside Emily Blunt. While not his directorial debut, it's Krasinski's first horror movie and he makes an impact on the genre immediately. In what many, including us, believe is a modern day classic, Krasinski paints a sad world where a loving family is forced to live a silent existence in order to stay alive. This movie has so much going for it with excellent character development, interesting creatures, a theme of guilt that leads to an excellent conclusion, tense moments, and unique storytelling. The film doesn't overstay its welcome and while nobody expected something like this from Krasinski, it delivers in every way. YouTube | The Final PodcastDiscord | Spooky PiratesFacebook | The Final PodcastInstagram | thefinalpodcastMusic Credit: Karl Casey @ White Bat AudioWhat should we review next? Although Jigsaw is dead, the games continue as Lieutenant Rigg is tested in order to save his colleagues. Saw IV  is the fourth installment in the Saw series and although it's not the best of the series, it's still fun and has tense moments and creative traps. As huge fans of these movies growing up, we love watching them and feeling the nostalgia of one of our favorite horror franchises. We still believe that Jigsaw is underrated in the world of horror villains even though the Saw movies are highly popular. As the series starts to move away from Jigsaw, he still makes an impression and the characters and storytelling are enjoyable. An easily frightened hospice nurse arrives at the house of a sick author and while caring for her, she discovers one of her stories may reveal secrets about the house.I Am the Pretty Thing That Lives in the House is Osgood Perkins' second movie and while we enjoyed Longlegs and the style of storytelling Perkins used in that movie, this one didn't land for us. This film, while clearly artsy, came off as a basic ghost story with little-to-no substance for us. While this movie certainly has a fan base, it just wasn't one of our favorites. Oftentimes ghost stories can be unique and very interesting, but unfortunately, it just didn't work for us. 35 years after the "Sweet Sixteen Killer" murders, the infamous killer returns and takes another victim. Incidentally, a young girl travels back in time to 1987 and attempts to stop the initial killings.Totally Killer is a fun, light-hearted horror film to close out Spooky Season. There's nothing worse than a horror comedy that isn't funny. Good thing that's not the case with this one. This movie delivers on laughs, music, and vibes as an infamous serial killer is tracked through time and our protagonist has a personal stake to attempt to stop the killer in the past to preserve the future. The movie has a great array of characters that translate well both in the present and the past and adds new elements to the time travel piece where even minor impacts in the past will cause major ripples and change the future. While this movie didn't have a ton of buzz, it certainly delivers.
