Our reading this evening is issued with a rare "Heartbreak Warning" It tells the story of how one young man's obsession influenced the governing of his country, and gave unchecked power to the courts who worked in partnership with the church in order to ruin the lives of countless innocent people, primarily women, by first accusing them of witchcraft, then capturing and torturing them- and then ultimately murdering them. The story is true and the victims deserve our attention, our respect, and an effort to prevent this and similar actions from ever happening again. The story contains the brutal facts about the torture that was inflicted upon those who suffered. May they rest in peace. *SHOW NOTES CREDIT & THANKS TO “ThatGlasgowWitch” *LINK TO THE REEL SHARED https://www.instagram.com/reel/DJmuMaXTUQ4/?igsh=MWZ4azE0czY1YmQyZA== * ALSO - the creators of The Witches of Scotland Taran creators: Claire Campbell, Claire Mitchell, and Zoe Venditozzi & their organization The Witches of Scotland: https://www.witchesofscotland.com/ * Ms. Terry Stewart & The History and Heritage Guide. Winter camping continues to be a favorite activity for the WTIP Boundary Waters Podcast team. In February 2021, Matthew Baxley and Joe Friedrichs took a TV news team from Duluth for a trip to the BWCA. Alex Laitala and Dan Wolfe from KBJR joined the podcast duo for a trip to the far eastern reaches of the designated wilderness. Temperatures dropped to 10-below zero and Matthew shares a report from the wilderness along with added reflection from a memorable trip. Also in this episode, podcast contributor Lindsey Gau talks with Ty Olson about his epic and important journey through the Boundary Waters and other border lakes. Ty traveled more than 270 miles over 27 days in February and March across the border lakes of Minnesota and Ontario. He called his journey ‘Ski For Fire’ and he did the trip to raise money for firewood for the Pine Ridge Reservation in South Dakota. Lindsey sat down to talk with Ty just moments after his trip ended on the shores of Lake Superior in Grand Portage. The March sun is slowly melting the surface of some lakes in the BWCA. The season of change nears. A special thanks to Claire Campbell and Ian Tamblyn for their musical contributions to this episode.
November in the Boundary Waters is a time of transition. That being the case, here on the podcast we’re not ready to let the canoe season slide away just yet. We hear from four women today about their 2020 paddling experiences in the BWCA. Up first we hear from Aubrey Helmuth Miller and the team at Redbudsuds. Aubrey is the founder of Redbudsuds, a small business in Ohio that specializes in selling 4-in-1 soap products. In August 2020, Aubrey and her two employees, Liz Wagner and Amanda Petzker, traveled to Ely for a ‘work retreat’ to the BWCA. In today’s episode we hear an audio diary they recorded on their trip. In the second part of today’s episode we hear from Twin Cities resident Claire Campbell. Claire talks about being a solo paddler in the Boundary Waters in a wide-ranging and intriguing conversation with podcaster Matthew Baxley. Also featured in today’s episode is a collection of music with an appropriate twist to the Boundary Waters and this podcast.
Changing behaviour can be really hard, even at the best of times. How many of you have embarked on a new fitness regime to help with your health condition, only to stop within a day, a week, or a month? That could be because of pain, fatigue, lack of confidence, lack of support, or one of many other reasons. We often underestimate the difficulties we’ll encounter when we try to break a habit or introduce something new into our lives. In today's episode we're focussing on all those barriers to movement, specifically: - The difference between a blip and an actual set back - How fixed thoughts can stand in our way - Celebrating small wins and setting realistic goals - Taking the first step towards building a movement habit - Understanding why dose matters - Thinking about movement in the wider context of your life - Planning for when things don't go to plan Thinking about movement and exercise can be particularly challenging when you don’t have access to the adequate care that you need. So, I’ve once again partnered up with the brilliant Claire Campbell from the Physiotherapy Pain Association to share the latest evidence-based information that will help you be able to take some of those first steps by yourself in a safe and sustainable way, and help you to become a more informed and active participant in your care. Claire also lives with chronic pain, so she “gets this” in more ways than one! This post still forms part of our introduction - so we may touch on some concepts, tools, and tips that we will be expanding on in the future. There’s just a bunch of stuff that we think is important for you to keep in mind before you start trying to make any changes. We hope that this will get you thinking about how your own barriers may be impacting you and your life, and we’ll be sharing some tips for breaking habits that may have formed for very important and legitimate reasons, but may not be helping you anymore.
