Can the scales of justice accurately weigh the truth, especially when a man's life hangs in the balance based on circumstantial evidence? This episode takes you through a labyrinth of legal dilemmas and society's quandaries, from the excessive police force used against a 12-year-old to the bewildering case of Alec Baldwin, whose involuntary manslaughter charges have raised as many eyebrows as questions. Our special guest, a seasoned criminal justice expert, joins us to dissect these controversies, offering insight into the intricacies of law enforcement tactics and the complexities surrounding high-profile legal battles. From the haunting echoes of the first child on a milk carton to the chilling disappearance of Amy Mahalovic, we traverse the evolution of how society responds to missing children cases. Our conversation doesn't stop at the past; we address the current climate of potential civil unrest at the Texas border and the delicate dance of state versus federal jurisdiction. The air gets heavier as we recount personal stories with firearms and confront the generational shift in upbringing, realizing how deeply the threads of music genres like gangsta rap are woven into our cultural fabric.Navigating through strange crimes and the inexplicable nature of true crime, this episode promises a journey through the human psyche and the societal mechanisms that attempt to maintain order. It's a melding of the personal and the judicial, the emotional and the factual, as we grapple with the consequences of split-second decisions and the long shadows they cast on communities and individuals alike. So, brace yourself for an episode replete with debate, thought-provoking narratives, and a touch of nostalgia as we tackle the threads that connect us all in the often-unfathomable tapestry of life. We had the pleasure of interviewing Courtney Paige Nelson over Zoom video!Courtney Paige Nelson – who took a bit of an unconventional path to music – is revealing herself through her craft in way that perhaps no other emerging female artist is. Her new single, "1-800-broke-my-heart”, is modern and edgy, complete with a memorable hook, alt-pop production and impassioned vocals. From Courtney about the track - “After a terrible breakup which resulted in me finding out my ex was cheating on me with his coworker, I got extremely depressed and wrote this song telling my side of the story since I never got a chance to speak my piece. There wasn't any closure for me so it was priority to write something that would help decompress the giant knot in my chest. I wanted to be as vulnerable as possible when writing this song, so when it is released, I felt like I was relieved instead of feeling like I should've been more open. There was a lot of this story that I think many can relate to as a breakup/situationship anthem. I say anthem because I want it to empower people, not make them dwell on negative emotions with whatever they are going through. There are so many sad songs in the world, and I love me a good sad song. But this time I needed something to yell driving down the freeway with my middle finger in the air."San Francisco born and raised singer/songwriter Courtney Paige Nelson has carved her place in the music world. Just in the past year, she has amassed over three million streams as an independent artist. Most recently, Grammy nominated DJ Moore Kismet released their debut album UNIVERSE, spotlighting the song "See You Go" which Courtney wrote and performed on. Gaining 30+ editorial playlists, including New Music Friday in 12 countries, trending on Sirius XM radio, hitting 49 Apple charts, and holding the top 50 on Beatport for over a month. She performed "See You Go" live at HARD festival in Los Angeles as a special guest of Moore Kismet for 10,000 people. We want to hear from you! The new 2021 horror films are now beginning to trickle out.  One of them is the latest Canadian made movie THE SINNERS (2021).  Originally entitled THE COLOR ROSE during its festival run, the movie has gotten first time director Courtney Paige some notice.  Released only days ago, some have said the movie is a showcase for both the director and its leading actress Kaitlyn Bernard who plays Grace. Grace (Kaitlyn Bernard) and her six friends have been named the Sinners by their high school classmates because each has taken on the identity of one of the seven deadly sins.  Grace, known as “lust”, decides to lead a kangaroo court against Aubrey (Brenna Llewellyn), known as “pride”, for tattle-telling on the group for improprieties.  But when Aubrey goes missing, others in the group begin to turn up murdered.  Is their a serial killer come to their otherwise peaceful community. https://www.darkdiscussions.com/articles/horror-high-heels-interview-with-holly-amber-church/ (Holly Ambe)https://www.darkdiscussions.com/articles/horror-high-heels-interview-with-holly-amber-church/ (r)https://www.darkdiscussions.com/articles/horror-high-heels-interview-with-holly-amber-church/ ( Church), interviewed on https://www.darkdiscussions.com/podcasts/dark-discussions-podcast/dark-discussions-podcast-episode-472-open-24-hours-the-interviews/ (Episode 471), who's worked on https://www.darkdiscussions.com/articles/soundtrack-available-open-24-hours-2020-composed-by-holly-amber-church-vinyl-lp-24-bit-download/ (numerous films) including https://www.darkdiscussions.com/podcasts/dark-discussions-podcast/dark-discussions-podcast-episode-463-open-24-hours-2020/ (Open 24 Hours), was the composer to the movie.  Besides Kaitlyn Bernard and Brenna Llewellyn, the cast includes Breena Coates, Keilani Elizabeth Rose, Jasmine Randhawa, Carly Fawcett, and Natalie Malaika as the other five sins.  Dark Discussions takes a look at this recently released genre film.

Pride and greed. Lust and envy. Gluttony, wrath, and sloth. Those are all sins – the cardinal sins, the capital sins, the seven deadly sins – and they're the foundation stones for The Sinners, a terrifying and exciting feature-length thriller from filmmaker Courtney Paige. The Sinners follows seven girls from a religious high school who decide to rebel by starting a cult in which they embody the seven deadly sins. Kaitlyn Bernard plays Grace Carver, the pastor's daughter and most popular girl in school, who discovers her friend Aubrey is about to air out all of their dirty little secrets. Action must be taken. That action leads to kidnapping, and murder, and something possibly worse than death. Courtney co-wrote The Sinners with Erin Hazlehurst and Madison Smith. Besides Kaitlyn, the film features Brenna Coates, Brenna Llewellyn, Keilani Elizabeth Rose, Jasmine Randhawa, Carly Fawcett, Natalie Malaika, and some veterans of the Vancouver film and TV scene: Aleks Paunovic, Loretta Walsh, Lochlyn Munro, Michael Eklund, Dylan Playfair, Elysia Rotaru, Brendan Taylor, and Tahmoh Penikett. In this riveting episode of the YVR Screen Scene Podcast, Courtney Paige and Kaitlyn Bernard join Sabrina to discuss the many facets of The Sinners. Episode sponsor: Fish Flight Entertainment
