In this episode of Coffey & Code, host Ashley Coffey sits down with Jason Marsh — founder and CEO of Flow Immersive— to explore how AI, AR, and spatial computing are transforming the way we visualize and interact with data.Marsh, a veteran technologist with over 50 years of coding experience and a former Apple engineer, shares how Flow Immersive is replacing 2D slide decks with immersive 3D data stories powered by artificial intelligence. From visualizing Medicare and financial data in augmented reality to powering data storytelling at the United Nations General Assembly, Flow is changing how leaders collaborate, communicate, and make data-driven decisions.Listeners will learn:How AI and AR smart glasses create interactive, multi-user data environments. Why Flow Immersive's “speak with your data” feature lets users query and visualize information in real time. The challenges and breakthroughs of building multi-user AI systems for the enterprise. Why the boardrooms of the future will feature floating, collaborative 3D visualizations instead of flat PowerPoint slides. How Marsh defines “cool” as mastery and control — the ultimate intersection of human intuition and technology.Whether you're curious about the future of spatial computing, AI-driven storytelling, or immersive collaboration, this conversation is a front-row look at how data visualization is evolving from slides to holograms.
In this powerful episode of Fund the People's Defend Nonprofits, Defend Democracy series, Rusty sits down with Tonya Allen, President of the McKnight Foundation, to explore how philanthropy can respond to the Trump Administration's War on Charity, and serve as an active force for transformation. Tonya shares her roots in Detroit activism, lessons from community leaders who shaped her understanding of philanthropy as “an active verb,” and her belief that funders must embrace—not shy away from—power to change systems. She urges foundations to reject fear and isolation in the face of political attacks, reminding listeners that “silence isolates, and solidarity shields.”Tonya and Rusty also discuss how McKnight has transformed under her leadership—expanding its grantmaking to historic levels, adopting bold investment and climate commitments, and launching the $5 billion GroundBreak Coalition to build wealth for communities of color in the Twin Cities. She offers candid insights on trust-based philanthropy, supporting nonprofit workers, and how the Unite in Advance initiative is helping the social sector stand strong against coordinated threats. This episode is a master class in courageous, values-driven leadership in philanthropy.Guest Bio:Tonya Allen is a leader and a change agent with a passion for co-creating an equitable, sustainable world. In 2021, she became president of the McKnight Foundation, a Minnesota-based family foundation that advances a more just, creative, and abundant future where people and the planet thrive. In 2024, McKnight granted over $145 million—the highest charitable payout in the Foundation's history at 7 percent of its endowment—in support of equitable communities, a clean energy economy, global food systems, artists and culture bearers, and innovative neuroscience research. Beyond this increase in grantmaking, Tonya has worked to ensure that McKnight uses every tool in its toolbox as a philanthropic organization. In her first year at McKnight, Tonya championed using the Foundation's investments to advance net zero goals, and elevated McKnight's voice and leadership to rebuild Twin Cities neighborhoods and small businesses impacted by Covid-19 and the 2020 civil unrest. In 2022, Tonya helped launch the GroundBreak Coalition, an ambitious, multi-sector effort to close wealth gaps in Minneapolis-St. Paul. In 2023, GroundBreak announced nearly $1 billion in commitments towards its goals.Prior to joining McKnight, Tonya served as president and CEO of The Skillman Foundation, and as a program officer at the Charles Stewart Mott and Thompson McCully foundations. She was a co-founder and architect of Detroit Children's Fund, and the founder and director of Detroit Parent Network.Similar Episodes:MacArthur President Chooses Courage, Not Quiet – with John Palfrey, MacArthur FoundationNonprofits, the U.S. Constitution & the ACLU – with Mike Zamore, ACLUEpisode Links:Tonya Bio and Headshot.McKnight's “All in On Mission” blog postTonya's essay "Why We Increased Our Giving"Unite in Advance Op-Ed in Nonprofit Quarterly Council on Foundations' Sign-On Statement from PhilanthropyInside Philanthropy story on the GroundBreak CoalitionStatement from Tonya following the mass shooting at Annunciation Catholic Church and School in Minneapolis

Your headshot might look polished—but is it pushing people away instead of pulling them in? Too many business owners use generic, overly posed photos that scream “professional” but whisper nothing about who they really are. When every consultant, coach, or service provider has the same crossed-arm stance and neutral backdrop, you blend into the background—fast. The issue isn't the photo itself—it's the lack of brand clarity behind it. Without understanding your unique voice, audience, and vibe, your visuals can't communicate your value. And without that, your headshot becomes just another missed opportunity to stand out in a crowded market. This episode reveals how to shift your visuals from flat to magnetic—without needing a new photoshoot—just by aligning what you show with who you are. Because when your photo tells the right story, the right clients pay attention. Tyler Ballon (b. 1996, Jersey City, NJ) creates monumental works inspired by the lives of people in his community. His artistic journey was shaped early on by his grandmother, a community activist and school lunch lady who embodied service and compassion. Tyler's grandmother recognized his talent and instilled in him a respect for others, regardless of their circumstances. Though initially torn between sports and art, Tyler chose the latter, dedicating himself to painting with the encouragement of his grandmother and his family. His parents, both pastors, reinforced his faith and sense of purpose. Tyler refined his skills through an advanced art program in his high school—the JC Arts program—and later at the Maryland Institute College of Art, where he earned his BFA in 2018. After graduation, Tyler returned to his community, making its people the focal point of his work. Through large-scale paintings, he honors their lives and experiences, ensuring they are seen and celebrated. His art embodies his faith, principles, and the legacy of his grandmother, offering encouragement and validation to those around him.
