The Branding Problem Hiding in Your Headshot

Your headshot might look polished—but is it pushing people away instead of pulling them in? Too many business owners use generic, overly posed photos that scream “professional” but whisper nothing about who they really are. When every consultant, coach, or service provider has the same crossed-arm stance and neutral backdrop, you blend into the background—fast. The issue isn't the photo itself—it's the lack of brand clarity behind it. Without understanding your unique voice, audience, and vibe, your visuals can't communicate your value. And without that, your headshot becomes just another missed opportunity to stand out in a crowded market. This episode reveals how to shift your visuals from flat to magnetic—without needing a new photoshoot—just by aligning what you show with who you are. Because when your photo tells the right story, the right clients pay attention. Welcome to the Fall 2025 Book Preview with Catherine of Gilmore Guide to Books!   Today, Catherine and Sarah share 14 of their most anticipated books releasing from mid-August through December.   This post contains affiliate links through which I make a small commission when you make a purchase (at no cost to you!). CLICK HERE for the full episode Show Notes on the blog. Announcement One of the many benefits to supporting the podcast through either our Patreon Community or our Substack Community (both for just $7/mo) is that you get access to several bonus podcast episode series, including Book Preview Extras! In these episodes, Catherine and I share at least 4 bonus books we are excited about that we did not share in the big show preview episode. Get more details about all the goodies available and sign up here for Patreon and here for Substack! Highlights A lightning round of some big releases coming this fall that we're not featuring in today's preview. Odd fall pickings meant they both chose to feature 7 books each. Catherine's choices are a grab bag mix: academia, mysteries, a love story, and a snarky lighter read. Of Sarah's seven books, there are 3 debut authors and 1 repeat author — and 2 sports books! Some of Sarah's picks slide her right from sad girl summer into sad girl fall.  Sarah has already read and rated one of her picks — and it was a success! Plus, their #1 picks for fall. In this episode, Wes Bush interviews Ricardo, founder of BetterPic, about how he acquired and scaled an AI headshot company from $1.5K to $270K MRR in just 18 months - all while working part-time. Ricardo reveals his acquisition strategy, focus on fundamentals, and the three key moats that make BetterPic hard to compete with in the crowded AI photo generation market. Key Takeaways: [00:01:17] The unconventional $1 acquisition story [00:05:55] The product was "complete shit" initially - 10% refund rate vs 2% today [00:11:17] Why they invested in SEO and marketing automation early on [00:14:15] Building the foundations: marketing automation flows for 20-30 users that scale to thousands [00:16:30] Scaling AOV from $15 to $47 and how it unlocked new channels [00:21:25] How 9% conversion rates attracted top affiliates (vs industry standard 1-2%) [00:24:44] The 3 moats: 24/7 support, SEO dominance, and lowest COGS in the industry [00:27:16] Building a 50/50 marketing-tech team (unusual for most tech companies) [00:32:12] Channel breakdown: 80K from affiliates, 80K from Google Ads, plus SEO and Reddit [00:39:17] Current metrics: 7,000 monthly clients, 20 team members, 3-minute support response time [00:42:07] What he'd do differently: go all-in sooner instead of staying part-time Learn more about Ricardo: Connect with Stijn on LinkedIn

Cerebral Women Art Talks Podcast

Tyler Ballon (b. 1996, Jersey City, NJ) creates monumental works inspired by the lives of people in his community. His artistic journey was shaped early on by his grandmother, a community activist and school lunch lady who embodied service and compassion. Tyler's grandmother recognized his talent and instilled in him a respect for others, regardless of their circumstances. Though initially torn between sports and art, Tyler chose the latter, dedicating himself to painting with the encouragement of his grandmother and his family. His parents, both pastors, reinforced his faith and sense of purpose. Tyler refined his skills through an advanced art program in his high school—the JC Arts program—and later at the Maryland Institute College of Art, where he earned his BFA in 2018. After graduation, Tyler returned to his community, making its people the focal point of his work. Through large-scale paintings, he honors their lives and experiences, ensuring they are seen and celebrated. His art embodies his faith, principles, and the legacy of his grandmother, offering encouragement and validation to those around him.
