Many know Emmet Cahill from the current iteration of Celtic Thunder, filling the spot when Paul Byron left the group. Working around his Celtic Thunder tours and recording dates, Emmet HAS been touring as a solo performer as well for the last several years. His latest tour has a stop in Palm Desert February 5th as part of the St. Margaret's Friends of Music Concert Series.David Fleming speaks with Emmet just a BIT about Celtic Thunder but focused much of the time on his solo career. Namely, some of the tunes he tends to bring out - which is a mix of American Standards and Irish classics. Songs which have a storytelling aspect to them and tend to transport the listener to another time and place.
David Fleming in conversation with Doug Leightenheimer, music director for The St Margaret's Friends of Music concert series, as well as discussing vocal work from Chanticleer and Emmet Cahill, of Celtic Thunder.
Damian McGinty, while a part of the original lineup of Celtic Thunder, at the of 14 was not part of the original intention of the group. Still, he was with the band for a number of years. A brief hiatus gave us a stint on the TV show Glee, as well as some solo works…And he's part of the lineup once again with Celtic Thunder current tour with several stops in the region, including Riverside on the 13th. David Fleming spoke with Damian about Glee, and of course his time with Celtic Thunder as a child AND as an adult. We'll hear about some of his solo recordings in a near future show.
Welcome true believers to X-Men Horoscopes where each week our host Lodro Rinzler is in conversation with a special guest to discuss the X-Men issue that aligns with a significant month and year from their life and what that issue reveals about their future. This week we are joined by Mark Bassett, critically acclaimed cellist and long-time friend of the host (who also arranged our theme music)! Professor X is dying (again) so what does he dream about? Meeting the big love of his life: Magneto. Join us in Israel after the Holocaust where things are just awful for regular human Gabrielle Haller. Nazis want to use her as a map for getting Hitler's gold because...sure. It's Gold Rush! A Nazi buddy comedy for Professor X and Magneto with lots of wacky hijinx and the origination of their ideological differences. What does this issue mean for Mark's future? Tune in to find out! Mark Bassett earned his cello performance degree at the New England Conservatory of Music. He also has a degree in music education from the College of St. Rose. As a musician, Mark has played with many orchestras and chamber groups including the Philadelphia String Quartet, Calder Quartet, South Florida Symphony and Fresno Philharmonic. He has toured with artists such as Josh Groban, Lindsay Sterling, and bands Evanescence, Celtic Thunder, and Hanson. Mark's passion for video game music has led him to be principle cellist for Legend of Zelda: Symphony of the Goddess tour, and with the Final Fantasy: Distant Worlds tour. As a studio musician, He has recorded for recent films such as Frozen 2, Charlie's Angels, and Bad Boys 3. Mark has also recorded for many video game scores including Final Fantasy 12 remake and Final Fantasy 15. You can follow Mark on Instagram here. More of Lodro Rinzler's work can be found here and here and you can follow the podcast on Instagram at xmenpanelsdaily where we post X-Men comic panels...daily. There are some expressions that have worked their way into our daily conversations. Words like social-distancing, contact tracing, curbside pickup, Zoom meetings, no contact service. On and on it goes. Our world will never be the same. We have also learned a new appreciation for those we call “essential workers.” They are the front line workers who don't get Holidays like the rest of us. They work while we sleep. They are fellow human beings that we often take for granted. They are mostly invisible, until we need them. They deserve our respect and profound thanks. This music is about them, and for them. “Thank you” to all the everyday heroes, the ESSENTIALS. Whether you call it the Derry Air, The Londonderry Air or most likely Danny Boy the TDG's theme song is very dear to our hearts - so when Derry singer/songwriter actor and all round credit to his Ma Damian McGinty agreed to sing it for us we were beyond lurred. Maybe if Damian is new to your - all things Derry - radar you might want to click on the first link below and do a crash course - his recent song and video. This Old Town is a love song to Derry and will help you make sense of our chat with him. One of the original members of music phenomenon Celtic Thunder his career started at the tender age of 14 and has taken him far beyond our "spectacular" city walls. We know all about Derry Girls but what is it like being a Derry Boy? Even if that boy beat 40,000 other entrants to gain a role in US TV phenomenon Glee. Does he reckon that Derry Girls is based on truth? and just what bombshell did he drop on our girls, to make Jeanie choke on her tea - clue it involves one of the Derry Girls cast… Damian McGinty - This Old Town released St Patrick’s Day 2021 - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9Xe4ZIqhzNA New song will be released on 30th April 2021 - Damian McGinty - https://www.damianmcginty.com Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/damianmcginty/Twitter: https://twitter.com/damianmcginty?ref_src=twsrc%5Egoogle%7Ctwcamp%5Eserp%7Ctwgr%5EauthorInstagram: https://www.instagram.com/damianmcginty/?hl=en Phil Coulter - https://www.philcoulter.com/ Celtic Thunder - https://www.celticthunder.com Glee - https://glee.fandom.com/wiki/Damian_McGinty https://www.netflix.com/title/70143843 https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Glee_(TV_series) The Glee Project - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Glee_Project The Kids from Fame - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Kids_from_%22Fame%22 Puppy Love Damian aged 14 - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cloTlvFWFh0 Fergal Sharkey - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Feargal_Sharkey The Late Late Show RTE - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kkXxg6xsfvw Derry City Football Club - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Derry_City_F.C. https://www.derrycityfc.net/2021/04/new-derry-city-documentary-to-air-on-bbc/ For more information about the podcast, visit: www.thebiglight.com/talkingderrygirls Keep up to date with us on Twitter: @TBLderrygirls Check out our Facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/talkingderrygirls WATCH Derry Girls on Channel 4: https://www.channel4.com On RTE (in Ireland): https://www.rte.ie/ Series 1 & 2 available on Netflix outside UK: https://www.whats-on-netflix.com/news/derry-girls-season-2-coming-to-netflix-in-august-2019/
Angeli Perrow Angeli Perrow was born in Rockland on the Maine coast. Her grandfather was a lobsterman and her uncle fished the Grand Banks. As a child, Angeli delighted in exploring the beach with her grandmother, collecting shells and sea glass. She also started writing poems and stories when she was a child. Angeli taught elementary school for eleven years. Maine's maritime history has provided material for much of her writing, including four of her children's books, Captain's Castaway, Lighthouse Dog to the Rescue, Sirius the Dog Star, and Love from the Sky, as well as a coloring book. The "Maine Lighthouses Coloring Book" was published in a brand new second edition in March 2021. Her other picture books include Dogsled Dreamer and Many Hands, which was a 2010 Lupine Award winner. Angeli’s love for mystery stories inspired her to write the Key Mystery Series for children 8 to 12, starting with The Lightkeeper's Key and The Whispering Key. There are now eight volumes in the series. She has also written a trilogy of horse adventure books for young teens, Celtic Thunder, Celtic Tide, and Celtic Legend. Angeli lives in Hampden, Maine, with her husband and their dog Lily. She is the mother of two and grandmother of three. Hi! My name is Terry J. Aman and this installment marks my 73rd episode of "VideoFuzzy," reporting the progress I've made in cataloging more than 2,900 VHS transfers and digital recordings. In this installment, titled "Six Seasons and a Movie," commentary on the most of six seasons of "Community" as rebroadcast on IFC that I've archived and cataloged in my current collection. In my Cross Connections, I highlight Patricia Belcher as a Golden Thread, and Christopher Plummer in Fond Reflections. I add a Crossover segment that highlights actor Kevin Corrigan's appearance in both my classic and current collections, and a noteworthy career arc twist. Also, some followup comments on the second season finale of "Damages." In my Classic Collection (VHS-to-DVD), I have cataloged through disc 1,100. I talk about the PBS pledge drive presentation of "Celtic Thunder," a video for Max Tundra's "Will Get Fooled Again," comments on "The Unusuals," "Harper's Island," "Breaking Bad" and "South Park," along with the series finale of ABC's "Life on Mars." I found I recorded a public address from my cable provider in 2009 regarding their negotiations with a local network affiliate to rebroadcast their signal. Also, shoutout to the "All About Agatha" podcast and their recent comments on "The Adventure of the Clapham Cook." In my Current Collection (digital recordings), along with 103 of 110 episodes of "Community," I archived the presentation by the House managers in the second impeachment Senate trial of former President Trump. I felt it was a well organized presentation of the evidence and it was cool to have it in my collection. Also, comments on AMC's presentation of "The Salisbury Poisonings." In streaming, from Hulu, I've been enjoying "Mrs. America," "The Handmaid's Tale," and seasons 4 and 5 of "Damages." And under Off the Shelf, I got together with my friend Jesse Zimmerman of The Average Movie Nerd recently and we enjoyed "The Informant!" "Wag the Dog" and "Burn After Reading." Fun times. TOP TEN: Here's a "top ten" episode guide for people looking for a quick read-in on this blog and podcast effort. Enjoy!
This week's New York Irish Hour will feature recent hits from Michael English, Mike Denver, Derek Ryan, The Murphys, Kathy Durkin and Rod Stewart. I'll feature classic recordings from Mary Black, Eleanor McEvoy, Dee Reilly and Ronnie Drew. We'll also hear from Celtic Thunder and one of my own recordings. I also got a chance to catch up with Phil Coulter for a brief interview. I ended this week's New York Irish Hour with a surprise“Sneak Preview”!
This week, we summon the Celtic Tiger to bring the Celtic Thunder like a....Mannheim Steamroller?, no, that's a christmas thing...as Courtney Paige Barnett (@openbarnett, Haymaker, Gallery 1988) joins us to discuss all things Irish Dance! We click clack click clack about everything from Courtney's history with the art to the various to the increasingly insanely named Riverdance/Michael Flatley spin-off shows, and we take a brief detour to learn what it's like to open for Flogging Molly. Plus: Brandon looks into his future and it looks shocking like Greg Kinnear in The Stand. Don't get caught Flatleyfooted by forgetting to leave a review and rating on the ol' Apple Podcasts app. It's a bad app but it's an important thing! Do that and then please download Overcast :)
Can you imagine winning a karaoke competition at just 4 years old? Damian McGinty can, and he hasn’t looked back since. As the youngest member of Celtic Thunder, Damian had a crash course in the entertainment industry. By learning the self-discipline many adults even struggle with, he was able to build a name for himself. We delve into the mind of Damian as he shares the importance of work ethic, what it was like winning the Glee Project and more.

Actor and musician, Damian McGinty (Glee, Celtic Thunder), takes over as temporary hosts to grill Kendall and Joe about their whirlwind romance. Joe insists that he and Kendall get a dog before they ever consider kids (because she killed their plant), discuss what their love languages are, what it's like to keep a relationship secret, and later even engage in a very intense rap battle that somehow incorporates the topic of dac 'n' cheese. And finally, we find out if these two see marriage in their future (gasp!). http://HoneyBook.com/LONG for 50% off your first year http://BrightCellars.com/DowntoDate for 50% off your first shipment http://NativeDeodorant.com and use code LONG for 20% off your first purchase Learn more about your ad choices. Colm Keegan made his mark as a principal singer in the well-known Celtic Thunder, but before he embarked upon a performance career, he was a high school music teacher, with a master’s degree in music. For years, he’s though about a way to merge Irish history with music, and there never seemed like a good way to do it—until now. On Saturday, March 9, Keegan brings the first chapter of a new series called Irish History through Music to the Commodore John Barry Arts & Cultural Center.
Inspiration is a funny friend. It finds you and guides you. It takes you to strange and wonderful places. It introduces you to heroes. I started playing Celtic music in 1999... by accident. I had three "Celtic" songs in my song repertoire: "The Scotsman", "Irish Ballad" by Tom Lehrer, and an original Enya-esque song with nonsensical lyrics called "Lounging in La La Land". I was practicing on the South Mall at the University of Texas at Austin when red-haired gentleman asked if I'd like to perform at a Renaissance festival. As a Dungeons & Dragons nerd, I was so excited I asked my friend Andrew McKee to start a band with me. Soon the Brobdingnagian Bards found new Celtic music heroes and inspiration. For me, it was The Wolfe Tones, Christy Moore, The Irish Balladeers, and some random cassette that was called Irish Drinking Songs. That was my introduction to Celtic music. Those were my first Celtic music heroes. Later, I added Ed Miller, Serious Kitchen (featuring Vicki Swan & Jonny Dyer), Dougie MacLean, The Elders, Gaelic Storm, Clandestine, and even Bing Crosby. So of course many of these you have heard on my podcasts. Who are your Celtic music heroes? Welcome to the Pub Songs Podcast, the virtual Public House for Celtic culture and change through music.
