As broadcast August 4, 2021 with extra pachinko coins for you podcast gamblers. We take a trip tonight to the home of the ongoing Olympics in Tokyo. However, by "we," Danno merely means himself as Lizz Kalo is on vacation but still contributed her part of the playlist. Great tunes tonight old & new from the likes of Anri, TOWA TEI, DJ Mitsu The Beats, and Ryo Fukui amongst other luminaries of the music game in Japan. We also sent a shoutout to Gwangju's golden girl An San, who's catching a lot of flack from small-minded, sexist, and the extremely stupid of the world for her short hair & where she's from. Welcome back! This week, Billy and Greg tackle a topic they've been waiting a long time to talk about: One-hit wonders! As you can imagine, there's a lot to break down. From artists who were always destined to earn the title to those who we can't believe are actually considered one, we cram it all in. As for our all-time faves? Well, they're just de-lovely and delicious.Elsewhere in the episode, we talk pop stars who managed to avoid the dreaded sophomore slump with their second albums (are you sensing a theme yet?) and, as always, reveal our picks for Pop and Flop of the Week. Let's just say, we're a little torn this week. And as always, to listen to all the music talked about in this week's season premiere—or the good stuff, at least—be sure to check out our companion playlist, available on Apple Music and Spotify.
Welcome back to a new episode of BE Connected! This week I teamed up with my man DJ Wozzy B2B jamming the most amazing tracks from Funky House, Club and Deep House. For the 90's lovers, you'll discover hot remixes of DeeLite and Soul 2 Soul.
It starts in your ears, where it rattles around until it takes hold of your brain. Once it fully envolpes your brain, you lose control of your feet as they start to bip and bop to and fro. Then your hips will begin to swivel, your shoulders shimmy and your arms will sway. By the time you notice the vigorous shaking of your booty, it's all ready too late. The groove is firmly in your heart. And there's nothing you can do about it.... BUT DANCE! Come get infected with the undeee-niably, deee-lovely, 1990 international dance hit, Groove Is In the Heart, by Deelite! https://www.patreon.com/rss/earfoolpodcast?auth=YKLY39UqS8tlql2lQnxtsZs_d9jaVNkK

Welcome to the alternate universe that was in my ears in the late 80s/early 90s. The 22nd edition of my Beats, Jazz, & Soul mixtapes was a nod to the influence of the sounds that I found in the import bins while record shopping early on in my DJ career. Artists like Soul II Soul, Jamiroquai, Brand New Heavies, Sweetback (a band consisting of members of Sade's musicians/producers), and Loose Ends showed me that the jazzy soul groove sound, I thought, at the time, exclusive to black america went way beyond barriers of color and nationality. When I called this London Soul Classics, it was because when I made this, these kinds of songs were not that well received in a U.S. mainstream club environment, but were the jams in the 'underground' scenes...parties thrown by Giant Step in NYC or King Britt & friends in Philly, which usually had internationals in the audience. I'd heard, seen, read that people would dance to these kinds of songs in clubs in the UK that were as large as mainstream clubs in the U.S. - giving me hope that this music wasn't just for head nodding to in headphones or home listening, but for dancing as well. I learned that it took really free spirits to be able to let go to these kinds of sounds and those spirits are the spirits that I love and play to. In a way, this tape was positive and wishful thinking that someone from overseas would hear that I understood worldwide groove and extend an invitation to me to play there. The simple dreams of a DJ trying to make a mark. As you see in the photo, like the Brand New Heavies song Dream Come True http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HH5lEIhjOHY&feature=fvw - that dream DID come true. That's me on a curb and on a poster in London. Omar - Music For The Pipe Peter Brown - For Your Love Sweetback feat.
