Take Five | Episode 11 with Ben by MSYH.FM
“To connect with people emotionally is really the key to good work.” – Josh StreufertThank you for tuning in to The CUInsight Network, with your host, Robbie Young, Vice President of Strategic Growth at CUInsight. In The CUInsight Network, we take a deeper dive with the thought leaders who support the credit union community. We discuss issues and challenges facing credit unions and identify best practices to learn and grow together. My guest on today's show is Josh Streufert, Principal / Creative Director at Strum. Josh starts off by tracing his own path, which includes childhood dreams of archaeology, a strong Indiana Jones phase, film school, history studies, and eventually saying “yes” to a lot of opportunities that led him into creative leadership. It's a reminder that most meaningful careers aren't straight lines but are rather collections of curiosity, timing, and a willingness to try things before you fully know where they'll lead!In our conversation, Josh and I discuss what Strum does for credit unions and why branding is so much more than just logos and taglines. Josh shares a simple but powerful idea: when products are largely the same, people choose the organization they like best. From there, we get into how storytelling, creativity, and culture shape trust, loyalty, and the overall member experience. A big part of our discussion is also centered around change and burnout, with Josh introducing a mindset shift: moving from being a “gatekeeper” who protects the status quo to a “curator” who actively searches for better answers. He also talks about the concept of an “optimal rate of failure” and why failing occasionally isn't a weakness but evidence that you're still growing. As we wrap up the conversation, Josh shares how he manages a work-life balance, what book he would recommend reading, and why he idolizes a former high school teacher! Enjoy my conversation with Josh Streufert!Find the full show notes on cuinsight.com.Connect with Josh:Josh Streufert, Principal / Creative Director at Strumstrumagency.comJosh: LinkedInStrum: LinkedInBook mentioned: Empire of the Summer Moon by S.C. View all cards mentioned in this episodeAndy and Anthony talk about Andy's latest Cube design concept. Inspired by The Ball Pit among other projects, Andy's goal is to design a desert cube where players play all but 5 cards from their pool. In other words, after the draft, player simply “Take Five” cards out of their pool and get shuffling. Andy's goal is to push players even harder to make something out of the cards they draft even if they don't obviously stand well on their own. Our hosts talk about the design process, challenges they anticipate, and potential solutions to this draft structure.Discussed in this episode:Take Five Song Recorded by the Dave Brubeck QuartetTake Five Andy's Emerging Cube IdeaThe Ball Pit100 OrnithoptersAndy's Take Five Brainstorming Videos on YouTubeGoblin Game, mono-Red No-Deckbuilding Cube by ArloPack One Slick Ones - Episode #20 including Arlo's Explanation of Goblin GameDegenerate Micro CubeSacred GeometryBun Magic CubeIf you'd like to show your support for the show, please consider backing Lucky Paper on Patreon or leaving us a review on iTunes or wherever you listen.Check us out on Twitch and YouTube for paper Cube gameplay. You can find the hosts' Cubes on Cube Cobra:Andy's “Bun Magic” CubeAnthony's “Regular” CubeYou can find both your hosts in the MTG Cube Talk Discord. Pianist Dave Brubeck (born December 6, 1920) and saxophonist Paul Desmond (born November 25, 1924), along with bassist Eugene Wright and drummer Joe Morello, formed one of the most popular jazz quartets ever assembled. They were responsible for over 60 albums, and Desmond's composition “Take Five” became the biggest selling jazz single of all time and an unlikely hit on pop charts as well. The group became well known for its innovative, complex compositions and use of unusual time signatures.
1989 - Concord, New Hampshire. When the bouncer at Take Five Music Hall in Concord, NH saw 21-year-old David Braley darting into the woods after being kicked out, he thought little of it and moved on. But that fleeting glimpse would turn out to be the last time anyone saw David alive. Months of frantic searching ended on a cool spring day in 1990, when a body appeared along the Merrimack River. David's discovery answered one question—but raised countless others. What exactly happened on the night of November 10, 1989? And who were the two men last seen with him at the bar? Were you at Take Five the night David Braley was killed?
