This was not a chill period in dance music—it was a full-throttle takeover. These weren't just tracks you heard in the club; they were the soundtracks to pre-games, afterparties, breakups, hookups, and everything in between. By this point, Electro House had become the default language of clubland. It didn't matter if the artist was an underground favorite or a Disney Channel graduate—everyone wanted in on the energy. And with remixers like Dave Audé, Mike Rizzo, Jody den Broeder, and Jump Smokers consistently delivering top-shelf work, the line between pop and club music completely vanished. Remix Culture Was King Let's be real—some of these tracks hit harder in their remixed versions than the originals ever could. Usher's “DJ Got Us Fallin' In Love” was already slick, but Jump Smokers cranked it up with a glammed-up club version that dominated summer playlists. Christina Aguilera's “Not Myself Tonight” might've been polarizing on radio, but Jody den Broeder turned it into a pulsing floor-filler with an edge. Black Eyed Peas continued their chart domination with “Imma Be” and “Meet Me Halfway,” both of which got remixed within an inch of their lives—one dirty, one dreamy, and both undeniable. And let's talk about Lady Gaga, who basically lived on the dance charts during this period. But her early releases with The Scene were smart, polished pop that lent themselves surprisingly well to club remixes. “Round & Round” and “A Year Without Rain” became club favorites thanks to 7th Heaven and Dave Audé, respectively, who transformed them into soaring dance tracks without stripping away her youthful charm. Selena's transition from Disney darling to legitimate pop artist began here, and the clubs were ready to embrace her. Ke$ha's Party Nation Also bursting into the scene like a glitter bomb was Ke$ha, whose breakout hit “TiK ToK” became a global party anthem. Held in Cali, Columbia, it was attended by leaders and delegates from over 200 countries.RFI English journalist Amanda Morrow wrote about what was at stake at this COP, in her article “Ecosystems hang in the balance as Colombia hosts crucial biodiversity talks”.Not much has happened since COP15 – as Amanda noted, as of this date, only 17 percent of land and about 8 percent of oceans are protected – a far cry from the 30 percent committed to at COP15.Money pledged is also far behind schedule: and that was your question. You were to re-read Amanda's article and send in the answer to this question: How much money was promised by wealthy nations to support biodiversity protection in developing countries, and how much has actually been secured?   The answer is, to quote Amanda: “Talks at Cop16 will focus on pressuring wealthy nations to deliver the promised US 30 billion annually to support biodiversity protection in developing countries. So far, pledges to a new biodiversity fund have fallen far short, with only about 400 million secured – and even less disbursed. Christian sits down with Goldroom, aka Josh Legg.  They go deep into his SoCal chill EDM beats and how a kid from Boston created the new laid back sounds of L.A.Josh Legg, known professionally as Goldroom, is an American electronic musician. egg grew up in Wellesley, Massachusetts and studied psychology at the University of Southern California in Los Angeles. He and classmate Kyle Peterson formed the synthpop band NightWaves and co-founded the record label Binary Entertainment, although the former went on hiatus in 2011. From its establishment in 2007, Binary has worked with artists including Anoraak, Bag Raiders, College, Futurecop!, Miami Horror, and The Twelves.Legg began producing music under the name Goldroom in 2011, with remixes of tracks including Niki and the Dove's "Mother Protect". He took his stage name from the name of a bar in Los Angeles' Echo Park area. He released his debut EP, Angeles, the same year, followed by the EP Embrace in 2013. Although Goldroom had performed vocals on all Angeles tracks (he also sang harmonies and backing vocals in NightWaves), for Embrace he enlisted vocalists including Chela, Ariela Jacobs, Mereki, and Say Lou Lou.In 2014, Goldroom released the single "Till Sunrise", the music video for which was directed by actress Dianna Agron. In 2015, he issued the EP It's Like You Never Went Away via Downtown Records. Accompanying the EP, music videos for each of the tracks were premiered via the video messaging application Snapchat. It's Like You Never Went Away includes a newly recorded version of "Embrace" featuring the song's co-writer, George Maple.Goldroom's musical influences include Alan Braxe, Daft Punk, Bob Dylan, Fred Falke, Al Green, LCD Soundsystem, Nirvana, and Tom Petty.
