A Course in Miracles contains a beautiful picture of what it is to be a parent. The crucifixion is the main event in Christianity. Christians generally view Jesus' death as a payment for our sins so that God will forgive us and we can go to Heaven. Increasingly, however, this is leading to a "crisis of faith" where many who sincerely love Jesus can't reconcile him with a God who enacts revenge and violence. How could a loving God murder His own Son? Not surprisingly, A Course in Miracles has an entirely different view of Jesus' crucifixion. Indeed, rather than seeing the sacrifice and suffering associated with the cross as symbolic of the way OUT of the ego, the Course sees it as symbolic OF the ego—what the ego does to us. It can be a dilemma: You need to set a boundary with someone, and yet you don't want to be unloving. Helen Schucman, the scribe of A Course in Miracles, faced this very situation. In this episode, Robert and Emily Perry explore the profound shift from scarcity to abundance as viewed through the lens of A Course in Miracles. They begin with the conventional understanding of a “scarcity mindset”—that there is not enough to go around—and then contrast that with the Course's very different view of the “scarcity fallacy.” That fallacy is the belief that we are fundamentally lacking, and this results in an endless quest to fill the inner void, in many, many ways. But we just end up reinforcing the reality of that inner emptiness. Robert and Emily then delve into the solution, which is to identify with our abundance—the completeness of our true being. Once we identify with this abundance, our lives are no longer about getting, but about giving, because when we are in touch with our abundance, our normal needs fall away, and the only need we have is to give. The Course says, “From your grandeur you can only bless, because your grandeur is your abundance.” Giving from abundance, then, becomes the foundation for a new relationship with the world, one that transcends scarcity and leads to a life of genuine, heartfelt generosity. Safety is a central issue for all of us. It's remarkable how much of our time and energy goes into keeping ourselves safe. Karma is, to put it simply, the connection between actions and their consequences. From a spiritual perspective, karmic actions are associated with our current life, but karma has also been tied to past lives and reincarnation.
