When it comes to DEKA there's one place that we like to go to focus on for coverage and it's Underdog Fitness. There are a bunch of reasons for this: Mike was coached by Kevin for a while, it's where we did our first DEKA, their athletes are frequently on the podium for DEKA World Championships every year, and they are some of our favorite people in the sport! We went down Saturday night and brought Luci for her first hotel and race experience but as we talked about last episode she ended up getting high and hospitalized and Mike almost got arrested for speeding on the way home. Things were a bit hectic with all that and there were many unintentional Irish Goodbyes but I think we did pretty well with an hour of interviews for coverage. Check out the names below! What if one of Christianity's core teachings is actually holding people back from love? In this episode of Exploring A Course in Miracles, Emily and Robert Perry sit down with Brian Recker, author of Hell Bent, to explore how the doctrine of hell shapes belief, behavior, and our image of God—and why it undermines a truly love-based spirituality. Brian shares his journey from a fundamentalist upbringing to becoming an evangelical pastor to ultimately questioning the fear-based theology he once preached. Together, they discuss the lingering impact of early religious conditioning, the hidden role hell still plays in modern Christianity, and what it could look like to rebuild the Christian story on a foundation of love. ___________________________ Since 1993, our purpose has been to help with both the theory and practical application of A Course in Miracles. What if A Course in Miracles really does give us the meaning of love—just not in the way we expect? In this message, Robert Perry shows how the Course offers a lived recognition of love as purely giving—changeless and equal for everyone. You'll learn the subtle ways we confuse love with attack, specialness, taking, and guilt, and then trace the Course's remedy: not manufacturing love, but removing the blocks through forgiveness and holy instants where judgment falls away. ___________________________ Since 1993, our purpose has been to help with both the theory and practical application of A Course in Miracles. Why do so many relationships that begin with such promise end in conflict, disconnection, or despair? In this episode of Exploring A Course in Miracles, Robert and Emily Perry look at the ego's version of love—a love rooted in self-focus rather than true joining. Inspired by David Brooks' New York Times article, “The Wrong Definition of Love,” Emily and Robert unpack how our culture's shift from shared moral and spiritual frameworks to individualistic, therapeutic ones has shaped our understanding of love. What happens when self-love and self-expression replace devotion, service, and shared purpose? And what can the Course teach us about returning to love as the cure for our self-centeredness and division? In this conversation, Robert and Emily explore: How our culture's definition of love became centered on the self What A Course in Miracles says about love vs. the ego's imitation of love Why the decline of shared values has left us fragmented and isolated How real love “de-centers” the self and joins us in something larger This is a profound and timely discussion about rediscovering love as a path out of our collective disconnection. ___________________________ Since 1993, our purpose has been to help with both the theory and practical application of A Course in Miracles. Too Christian for New Age, too New Age for Christians—where does A Course in Miracles really belong? In this episode of Exploring A Course in Miracles, Robert and Emily Perry take a closer look at one of the most common and controversial questions about the Course. Many Christians see ACIM as “unbiblical” or even dangerous, while many spiritual seekers view its Christian language as outdated or off-putting. So where does the Course really stand? In this discussion, we explore: The Course's use of Christian language—God, Jesus, the Holy Spirit, forgiveness—and how it reinterprets those terms. Key differences between ACIM and traditional Christian doctrine. Surprising compatibilities that go beyond language into the heart of the message. How the Course might be “more Christian” than its critics (and even many of its students) have realized. At the Circle of Atonement, we believe ACIM and Christianity are not opposites, but conversation partners—each with something to teach us on our shared path to God. ___________________________ Since 1993, our purpose has been to help with both the theory and practical application of A Course in Miracles. In this Sunday Gathering message that draws upon the work of James Baldwin and the teachings of A Course in Miracles, Emily Perry explores how hate functions like a spiritual cancer—growing silently within us until it erupts into division, violence, and despair. If you've ever wondered how to confront the hostility in our world—and in yourself—without losing sight of love, this message will encourage you to look honestly at your own heart and discover the freedom that comes with letting hate go. ___________________________ Since 1993, our purpose has been to help with both the theory and practical application of A Course in Miracles. In this episode of Exploring A Course in Miracles, Robert and Emily Perry dive into one of the most important questions of the spiritual journey: Who is God, really? How we see God shapes everything. If we see Him as hostile, we live in fear. If we see Him as indifferent, we feel alone. But if we know Him as gracious and loving, we can live with peace, trust, and the deep assurance that we are never alone. Drawing on insights from A Course in Miracles and the work of theologian Marcus Borg, Emily and Robert explore how our image of God profoundly impacts the way we experience life. Along the way, they share why the Course's vision of God as a deeply personal and unconditionally loving Creator may be one of its greatest contributions. If you've ever wrestled with your image of God—or wondered what A Course in Miracles really teaches about Him—this conversation is for you. ___________________________ Since 1993, our purpose has been to help with both the theory and practical application of A Course in Miracles. In this episode, Robert and Emily Perry dive into the content and the backstory of “The Journey Into Fear”—a newly restored Text section in the Complete and Annotated Edition of A Course in Miracles. The message of this section is as radical as it is liberating – to uncover the love in us, we must first face the hate in us – but it's also uncomfortable. So uncomfortable, in fact, it was removed from the original publication of the Course. Why would A Course in Miracles ask us to look at something so uncomfortable? And what happens when we do? We hope you'll join Robert and Emily for this deep, honest, and ultimately hopeful conversation. You will learn: Why we believe this material was removed – and why it was restored. The cost of keeping your hate buried. How facing our hate frees the love within us. ___________________________ Since 1993, our purpose has been to help with both the theory and practical application of A Course in Miracles. In this Sunday Gathering sermon, Emily Perry draws inspiration from Frederick Douglass' powerful 1852 speech “What, to the Slave, is the Fourth of July?” to examine the gap between the high ideals of faith and the painful realities we see around us. Through stories of figures like Maximilian Kolbe, Martin Luther King Jr., and her own personal experiences, Emily explores how A Course in Miracles offers a new vision of faith—one that is not blind or hollow, but grounded in love, equality, and trust in each other's holiness. You'll learn: Why the Course teaches that God has perfect faith in you How we misplace our faith—and how to redirect it toward healing What it means to place faith in others and call forth their true nature How faith can become a living force for compassion, courage, and transformation If you've ever struggled with the concept of faith or wondered what it truly means on the spiritual path, this message is a call to embody the world we long to see. ___________________________ Since 1993, our purpose has been to help with both the theory and practical application of A Course in Miracles. In this sermon, Emily Perry explores A Course in Miracles' radical redefinition of justice—not as punishment, but as love itself. In a world where justice is seen as people getting what they deserve for what they do, the Course teaches that real justice is about getting what you deserve for who you truly are as God's beloved child. We'll look at how the world's idea of justice often masks vengeance, how the Course reframes justice as restoration rather than retribution, and how we can embody this higher justice in our daily lives. ___________________________ Since 1993, our purpose has been to help with both the theory and practical application of A Course in Miracles. In this special Q&A episode of Exploring A Course in Miracles, Robert and Emily Perry dive into the central teaching of the Course—forgiveness—and answer your questions about how to truly live it. What does the Course say about forgiveness? How do we forgive when we're hurting, when others don't change, or when we need to protect ourselves? Together, we explore: What Course-based forgiveness actually is (vs. conventional forgiveness), Why forgiveness is not spiritual bypassing Boundaries, abuse, and real-world relationships Forgiving without an apology—or even contact What to do with anger, grief, and fear Forgiving groups, the government, the world Forgiveness and codependency What it means to forgive the deceased, and much more We also talk about why Course-based forgiveness isn't just inner work—it's about seeing others as truly innocent and extending love in response. ___________________________ Since 1993, our purpose has been to help with both the theory and practical application of A Course in Miracles. In this episode of Exploring A Course in Miracles, Robert and Emily Perry explore one of the most misunderstood themes in the Course: our role in the world's healing. While the Course teaches that form is an illusion, it also affirms that minds are real, God has a plan to save the world, and each of us has an essential part to play. This conversation addresses common objections—like “seek not to change the world”—and reveals the deeper vision the Course offers: not detachment, but active love. ___________________________ Since 1993, our purpose has been to help with both the theory and practical application of A Course in Miracles. In this message, Emily Perry explores the hidden “frame of reference” we each bring to everything we see—and how A Course in Miracles invites us to shift from the ego's frame of distortion to the Holy Spirit's frame of love. Drawing on stories from daily life, Course quotes, and the concept of “reality testing,” this talk reveals how our current lens shapes our world—and how we can choose a new one. ___________________________ Since 1993, our purpose has been to help with both the theory and practical application of A Course in Miracles. What does it mean to choose joy in a world that feels anything but joyful? In this Sunday Gathering message, Emily Perry explores the practice of claiming joy not as escapism, but as a spiritual act of defiance against fear, suffering, and ego-based narratives. Drawing from A Course in Miracles and the legacy of great nonviolent movements—from Fannie Lou Hamer to Viktor Frankl to Dietrich Bonhoeffer—Emily shares how joy becomes a healing force when rooted in love and our identity as God's beloved. You'll learn: Why the Course calls joy your function and a sign of spiritual maturity How resistance through joy echoes the teachings of Jesus and the Sermon on the Mount What “Black joy” reveals about reclaiming identity and sacred dignity How to cultivate joy even in the midst of pain, loss, or injustice Emily's sermon reminds us that joy is more than a feeling—it's a way of standing with God, even in the storm. ___________________________ Since 1993, our purpose has been to help with both the theory and practical application of A Course in Miracles. In this episode of Exploring A Course in Miracles podcast, Robert & Emily Perry dive into one of the Course's most essential—and most misunderstood—figures: the Holy Spirit. You will learn: Who is the Holy Spirit? What is His relationship to God, Jesus, and us? Is He just a symbol… or a real Being with a divine mission? What is His role? How can we hear the Holy Spirit more clearly? We hope you'll join in for an illuminating conversation about the Holy Spirit and how A Course in Miracles says He can lead you back to God. ___________________________ Since 1993, our purpose has been to help with both the theory and practical application of A Course in Miracles. Palm Sunday marks the beginning of Holy Week—a time that many of us remember with tradition and reverence. In the Gospel story, Jesus enters Jerusalem to shouts of “Hosanna!” as palm branches are laid at his feet. But A Course in Miracles invites us to see this moment in a new light—not just as the beginning of Jesus' final days, but as the beginning of everyone's spiritual journey home to God. In this message, Robert Perry explores what Holy Week means through the lens of the Course. Rather than focusing on death and sacrifice, the Course shifts the message to forgiveness, innocence, and resurrection—not only for Jesus, but for each one of us… and especially for the people standing right beside us. What if the people in your life—yes, even the difficult ones—are walking their own sacred path to resurrection? What if you could either delay or speed their journey by the way you see and treat them? And what if, in offering them lilies instead of thorns, you were saving yourself as well? ___________________________ Since 1993, our purpose has been to help with both the theory and practical application of A Course in Miracles. Have you ever felt like you're standing at a distance from your spiritual path—disengaged, resigned, or quietly doubting whether you're really up to the task? In this Sunday Gathering sermon, Robert Perry explores one of the most beloved prayers in A Course in Miracles—the “Accepting the Atonement” prayer—and the powerful story behind it. Originally given to Bill Thetford as a direct response to his own disengagement from the Course, this prayer speaks to the passive ways we hold ourselves back from healing, love, and the return to God. Drawing from rarely discussed guidance in the Course and newly uncovered context, Robert shows how Jesus lovingly called Bill out of his withdrawal and into full engagement with the path – and how he invites us to do the same. ___________________________ Since 1993, our purpose has been to help with both the theory and practical application of A Course in Miracles. In this episode of Exploring A Course in Miracles, Robert & Emily Perry dive into the question so many of us are asking: How do we stay spiritually grounded in a world that feels increasingly unhinged? Drawing from Course teachings, Robert & Emily introduce a 3-step process for navigating these turbulent times with clarity, compassion, and conviction. This conversation challenges the idea that spiritual practice means disengagement from the world. Instead, it affirms that Course students are called to show up—clear-eyed, open-hearted, and rooted in love. ___________________________ Since 1993, our purpose has been to help with both the theory and practical application of A Course in Miracles. In a world that is increasingly consumed by fear, injustice, and division, many of us are left asking: What do we do with our anger? In this sermon from a recent Sunday Gathering, Emily Perry draws inspiration from Martin Luther King Jr.'s timeless message in “A Knock at Midnight” and explores how A Course in Miracles invites us to respond to anger in a spiritually-grounded way. Through practical insights and personal stories, we'll look at: • How conventional views of anger shape our thinking • What the Course teaches about the roots of anger • A 3-step healing process for transforming anger into love • Why miracle-mindedness—not rage—is our true source of strength If you're feeling the darkness of our time and longing to be a light within it, this message is for you. ___________________________ Since 1993, our purpose has been to help with both the theory and practical application of A Course in Miracles. For many spiritual seekers, A Course in Miracles and the Bible seem like two completely different paths. And yet, the Course references the Bible more than anything else—with nearly 900 biblical quotes and allusions throughout its 2,000 pages. So what does the Course actually say about the Bible? How does it affirm, reinterpret, or even correct biblical teachings? And what does this mean for students of the Course today? In this episode of Exploring A Course in Miracles, Emily and Robert dive deep into: How the Course grants authority to the Bible—especially the Gospels Why Jesus urges students to read the Bible and examine his credentials The Course's reinterpretation of key biblical passages (e.g., “Vengeance is Mine,” “God is not mocked”) How Jesus reframes the meaning of his crucifixion and resurrection The bigger picture: how the Course aims to recover the Bible's true message of love Whether you've struggled with the relationship between A Course in Miracles and the Bible or you're just curious to learn more, this conversation is one of the most important we've ever had. ___________________________ Since 1993, our purpose has been to help with both the theory and practical application of A Course in Miracles. In this episode, Emily Perry explores the theme of Workbook Lesson 27 from A Course in Miracles: “Above all else I want to see.” [CE W-27:1] This lesson invites us to embrace a shift in perception, emphasizing the importance of seeing the world through spiritual vision rather than through the distorted lens of the ego. In this Sunday Gathering sermon, you'll learn how the Course encourages us to “undo” our current way of seeing, how to “restore” the spiritual sight that already resides within us, and the vital role of determination in achieving the Course's goal of spiritual vision. In this episode, Emily and Robert Perry from the Circle of Atonement reflect on what they learned from their recent 28-Day Relationship Challenge. This challenge, hosted for the members of the Circle's Course Companions community, focused on applying the ten characteristics of a spiritually advanced teacher of God from the Manual for Teachers of A Course in Miracles to transform relationships. The challenge was inspired by the realization that when we want change in our relationships, we often focus on changing others rather than ourselves. Emily and Robert took on the task of embodying the Course's definition of a spiritually advanced teacher for 30 days, trusting the Course's methods and principles and letting go of the usual impulse to control. Here, they share insights on how characteristics like trust, tolerance, gentleness, defenselessness, patience, and generosity can deeply impact how we show up in relationships. They discuss the challenges and rewards of applying these traits, such as how embracing defenselessness can bring peace to difficult situations or how practicing patience stems from trusting that the outcome is certain. Tune in for a deep dive into how these profound teachings can transform your relationships and lead to the ultimate goal of the A Course in Miracles curriculum: forgiveness. Want to try the 28-Day Relationship Challenge yourself? The replays and handouts from the challenge are available in the Course Companions program. Is A Course in Miracles truly a self-study course? Despite being repeatedly described as "self-study," the Course's own pages tell a different story—one that includes teachers, pupils, and a structured learning process designed by Jesus himself. In this episode of Exploring A Course in Miracles, Robert and Emily Perry discuss the negative impact of the "self-study" label, the Course's own plan for a teacher-pupil model, honest reflections on the Circle's attempts to establish this model, and why having a knowledgeable teacher can make all the difference in truly understanding and applying the Course's wisdom to your life. ___________________________ Since 1993, our purpose has been to help with both the theory and practical application of A Course in Miracles. Join Emily Perry for an exploration of "Jesus and the Disinherited through the lens of A Course in Miracles." Inspired by Howard Thurman's seminal work that shaped the spiritual foundation of the American Civil Rights Movement, this sermon dives into the profound connections between Jesus' teachings, nonviolence, and social justice. In this message, you'll discover how Thurman's insights illuminate Jesus as a figure of liberation for the oppressed, offering a path from fear, deceit, and hate to faith, integrity, and love. You'll also learn the ways Thurman's wisdom overlaps with the teachings of A Course in Miracles, particularly in its call to transcend inner darkness with love and forgiveness as a force for personal and collective transformation. If you've ever wondered how spirituality can meaningfully address social injustice or how faith can inspire true transformation, this message is for you. The quality of our relationships is so important to health and happiness, and yet how often do the high hopes we have going into a relationship actually come true? All too frequently, our relationships end up mired in conflict - or simply end altogether. A Course in Miracles is a spiritual path aimed at making our relationships work. The Course came as a result of two people searching for "a better way" to get along, and it puts harmonious relationships at the very center of our spiritual journey. In this episode, Robert and Emily Perry discuss the Course's formula for successful joining and also share a preview of the Circle's upcoming relationship programming. ___________________________ Since 1993, our purpose has been to help with both the theory and practical application of A Course in Miracles. Feeling overwhelmed by the complexity of A Course in Miracles? You're not alone. From the moment we open the book, we often find ourselves searching for a clear, simple way to understand and explain its teachings. In this Sunday Gathering sermon, Robert Perry dives into Lesson 297, where the Course itself offers a "simple formula"—a single sentence broken into three short, practical, and memorable parts. Our Sunday Gatherings are open to all and take place each month on the 2nd and 4th Sundays at 11 a.m. ET (4 p.m. UTC). We invite you to attend - and to bring a friend - to be in fellowship with other Course students. _________________________________ Since 1993, our purpose has been to help with both the theory and practical application of A Course in Miracles. Here at the Circle we are actively seeking to engage in dialogue with Christian leaders because we believe there is much overlap between the values of A Course in Miracles students and those who identify as reconstructing Christians. Namely, we both want to bring forth a world that sides with love in accordance with the teachings of Jesus. This is why we are thrilled to be speaking with Jer Swigart, cofounder of Global Immersion, this week. Global Immersion is a nonprofit that focuses on equipping leaders - particularly those in the Christian church - to become peacemakers in the world. In this podcast, Jer and Emily Perry talk about making peacemaking a spiritual practice, applying peacemaking principles to real-world settings, dismantling harmful ideologies, healing Christian nationalism, and finding Jesus in the middle of the storm. ___________________________ Since 1993, our purpose has been to help with both the theory and practical application of A Course in Miracles. Emily and Osheta explore how practicing love, compassion, and radical kindness can heal our relationships and communities. Osheta also shares her inspiring vision of modern beloved community, a vision that mirrors the Course's call to unity, forgiveness, and recognizing the divine in everyone without exception. ___________________________ Since 1993, our purpose has been to help with both the theory and practical application of A Course in Miracles.
