As the bestselling author of Is There Life After Death? and Cheating the Ferryman, Anthony Peake has studied the phenomena surrounding what happens when we die. In Near-Death Experiences, he takes a look at a phenomenon that has garnered great attention from both academics and scientists who study the workings of the brain and the physiological events that are associated with this seemingly inexplicable state.By marrying up anecdotal evidence with empirical scientific evidence, Peake proffers the latest theories behind what we call 'near-death experiences' and how those investigating them are trying to reconcile an apparent state of awareness on the part of the person concerned with the fact that clinically they are considered by physicians to be in a state of clinical death with no signs of bodily functions. It makes for a fascinating read that takes us into an area of neuroscientific research that is continually evolving.BioAnthony Peake was a curious child. While his friends were reading Batman and Superman comics Anthony was immersing himself in learning of the most arcane nature (whilst still keeping an eye on the X-Men and Dr. Strange). It was in 1966, at the age of twelve that he, quite by accident, came across a copy of The Sky People by Brinsley Le Poer Trench and from then on there was no stopping him. The British part-series Man Myth and Magic was read with intense interest followed by the discovery of John Keel's Project Trojan Horse and Jacques Vallee's Passport to Magonia. What followed was a voracious, and unquenchable, need to know everything about everything. At university he chose courses that would accommodate his wide interests, specialising in the sociology of religion, the theory of language development and the art of the Italian Renaissance. A post-graduate course in management lead Anthony away from his calling as a writer and into a career as a manager in various UK businesses. His interest in the esoteric continued with a growing fascination for quantum physics and neurology developing over the years. It was in the year 2000 that his life was to change. A fortuitous set of circumstances allowed him to take a year sabbatical from his business career and he decided that he would focus the fruits of all his reading and research in writing a book. Exactly one year later he surfaced with the manuscript of his first book, then entitled Cheating the Ferryman. This book was a distillation of all his areas of interest, quantum physics, neurology, ancient myths, altered-states of consciousness and the mystery of death. However, it was to take five years before this work appeared in print. Thanks to the help of Professor Bruce Greyson of the University of Virginia, an article based upon Anthony's Cheating the Ferryman hypothesis was to appear in the Winter 2004 edition of the Journal of Near-Death Studies, the academic periodical of the International Association of Near-Death Studies (IANDS). A few months later, in early 2005, British publishing house Arcturus bought the rights to the book and, a year later, and after a substantial re-write, Anthony's first book, with the new title Is There Life After Death – The Extraordinary Science of What Happens When We Die was published. The rest, as they say, is history. This book has now sold over 60,000 copies world-wide and has been translated into various foreign language editions including Spanish, Russian and Polish. Indeed, Anthony has now had books published in every major European language.Anthony has now written twelve books. All of them develop his Cheating the Ferryman hypothesis into ever-wider areas of application. His approach has always been to apply science to the mysterious and the enigmatic. His thirteenth book, an exhaustive review of the history, anthropology and science of the much-discussed Near-Death Experience (NDE) will be published in November 2024.https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B0D6TGHXR8/https://www.anthonypeake.com/ https://www.pastliveshypnosis.co.uk/https://www.patreon.com/ourparanormalafterlife

https://www.iandssb.com/ Double Near-Death Experiencer, I died during a severe illness as a toddler and then died again, when I was 31 yr old. An error during a medical procedure at a hospital resulted in my death for 8-10 minutes, and after I was resuscitated, I shocked the medical team by accurately describing their individual actions and comments during the resuscitation process. I had witnessed everything from a ceiling vantage point, directly above my body! Those events, and the aftereffects that followed, contributed to many really interesting life sequences. My full NDE story and some life highlights can be seen in a documentary at https://youtu.be/zg3HnkSg38s, by the French Documentary Producer, Anthony Chrne. I travel and speak to live audiences, and for TV, radio, print, podcast, and documentary interviews, including coverage by the NBC Today Show, U.S. News and World Report, Mindalia TV, ABC News, and others. My life has included a Secret clearance with the U.S. Department of Defense, raising our five children and helping 16 “adopted by love” extra kids from all over the world that have visited us as foreign exchange students, traveling to 26 foreign countries and thwarting being kidnapped in Belize, being named Santa Barbara's “Businesswoman of the Year”, and an “Unsung Heroine” at the University of California, Santa Barbara, and singlehandedly attacking and chasing off four gang members in the midst of randomly stabbing to death a 19 yr old young man during a gang initiation and saving the young man's life, then helping police to identify and prosecute them! Yes, I've truly enjoyed living this amazing life! I currently am the Founder/Director of IANDS Santa Barbara, one of the many worldwide groups that are part of the International Association for Near-Death Studies (IANDS.org), as well as serving as the Executive Administrator for the Near Death Experience Research Foundation (NDERF.org and ). Happy summer! Fr. Nathan is taking a few weeks off from recording The Joyful Friar Podcast. During this time, we will be replaying the most-watched episodes!Enjoy this encore episode where Fr. Nathan discusses Dr. Bruce Greyson's research on near-death experiences.Dr. Bruce Greyson is the Chester Carlson Professor Emeritus of Psychiatry and Neurobehavioral Sciences at the University of Virginia. He was previously on the medical faculty at the University of Michigan and the University of Connecticut, where he was Clinical Chief of Psychiatry. Dr. Greyson has consulted with the National Institutes of Health and addressed symposia on consciousness at the United Nations and at the Dalai Lama's compound in Dharamsala, India. He has earned awards for his medical research and was elected a Distinguished Life Fellow of the American Psychiatric Association, the highest honor bestowed by that organization.Dr. Greyson's interest in near-death experiences began just a few months after graduating from medical school, when he treated an unconscious patient in the emergency room who stunned him the next morning with an account of leaving her body. That event challenged his beliefs about the mind and the brain, and ultimately led him on a journey to study near-death experiences scientifically, leading to more than a hundred publications in medical journals. He co-founded the International Association for Near-Death Studies (IANDS), an organization to support and promote research into these experiences, and for 27 years edited the Journal of Near-Death Studies, the only scholarly journal dedicated to near-death research. Through his research, he has discovered common and universal themes in near-death experiences that go beyond neurophysiological or cultural interpretations, as well as patterns of consistent aftereffects on individuals' attitudes, beliefs, values, and personalities.Dr. Greyson is the author of "After: A Doctor Explores What Near-Death Experiences Reveal About Life and Beyond." The book challenges our everyday ideas about our minds and our brains and offers key insights on how we can begin to live a more meaningful and fulfilling life.https://www.brucegreyson.comClick this link and let us know what you love about The Joyful Friar Podcast! Marjorie Woollacott is an Emeritus Professor of Human Physiology and member of the Institute of Neuroscience at the University of Oregon. She is Research Director for the International Association of Near-Death Studies (IANDS) and President of the Academy for the Advancement of Postmaterialist Sciences (AAPS). Marjorie has published more than 200 scientific articles and written or co-edited eight books. Our conversation centres around her paper, co-authored with scholar Ben Williams, Conceptual Cognition and Awakening: Insights From Non-dual S ́Aivism and Neuroscience. In this lucid synthesis, the pair explore the neural correlations between language, the sense of self, and expanded states of awareness — and how that relates to 10th century Kashmir philosopher Utpaladeva's Stanzas on the Recognition of Shiva. Marjorie shares how the brain's filtering system limits awareness, citing fascinating studies from near death experiences, meditation, and psychedelic research. Other topics include Extra-Sensory Perception and quantum entanglement, free will, and how brain activity supports a post-material worldview, where consciousness, not matter, is primary. Robert Christophor Coppes is a scientist and retired financier, and currently is board member of International Association for Near-Death Studies (IANDS). He has studied Near-Death Experiences (NDE's) for decades and has lectured on this topic in the US and Europe. He considers his new book “Impressions of Near-Death Experiences” his best book on NDEs because of the wealth of quotes from experiencers. Coppes lives in Amsterdam, the Netherlands. We start the conversation by assessing research, experiments and instances proving the truth of Near Death Experiences and we look at what differentiates NDE's from hallucinations. We then explore some of the common things people experience including the common experience of “life reviews”. We also discuss the possible reasons why some folk's experiences are very different from others. I share what scares me about death, even with the info we get to learn from folks NDE's. Coppes then shares his perspective on reincarnation and past lives based on what he's learned from NDE's. We then get to hear stories from LGBTQ folks who had NDE's, and the spiritual perspectives on queerness they got to receive. Robert also shares about the impact studying NDE's has had on his life.We end with Bob sharing the story of an 8-year-old girl who got the message from God that these are the 4 ingredients for life: To Love; To Be Loved; To Just Be, and: To Experience Life. As this podcast goes to air, we've been in this rich phase of the moon, growing in light helping our dreams build through our visions. We've moved in the sun sign of Aquarius, the energy of the collective consciousness with an emphasis on challenging you to think out of the box. We have our first full moon of 2024 coming in next week in Leo, which is about your power, the solar plexus, offering you the ability to open up your heart and expand your consciousness with courage. Winter is a time to speak to your ancestors. It's a time to examine the connections and traits you carry through. It's a time of growth for the soul. This is the work we are doing In my Soul.Work online program. This past week, we worked with spiritual contracts, especially generational contracts we each carry, even vows we make, in this lifetime or another. What is uncovered and the healing that can come forward is quite fascinating. As you move through winter, creating a spiritual practice has many amazing benefits, as we are going to talk about today. More often than not, it's out of crisis, it doesn't have to be, but mine was, as was my guest today. If you find you are in crisis and need help, a different kind of help than what's normally prescribed, schedule a Spiritual Breakthrough Call with me and let's talk about what you can do to begin a daily practice for you. Private Mentoring. In today's episode, I speak with Rebecca Kastle, originally from New Orleans, now in Birmingham, about what she calls a near-death like experience in real time. In this episode, we talk about what near death in real-time is, spiritual experiences, religious experiences, spiritual practices, training, readings, higher self, skepticism, doubt, and opening up. Rebecca Kastl is an energy healer and angel interpreter who underwent a life-altering Spiritually Transformative Experience from the ages 26-28 in which she saw a beautiful light that spoke to her. After witnessing this light she began having psychic dreams, seeing light within everyone, feeling how connected we all are, viewing alternate timelines of her life, and feeling surrounded by angels. It took many years for her to understand and accept her experiences due to being raised in a skeptical environment as well as coming from an interfaith background. She now uses her experiences and training to heal, give readings, and teach workshops that help others to live in alignment with their true nature - love. Fr. Nathan discusses Dr. Bruce Greyson's research work on near-death experiences. Dr. Greyson is the author of After: A Doctor Explores What Near-Death Experiences Reveal About Life and Beyond. The book challenges our everyday ideas about our minds and our brains and offers key insights on how we can begin to live a more meaningful and fulfilling life.https://www.brucegreyson.comConnect with Father Nathan Castle, O.P.

Anthony Peake was a curious child. While his friends were reading Batman and Superman comics, Anthony immersed himself in learning of the most arcane nature (whilst still keeping an eye on the X-Men and Dr. Strange). It was in 1966, at the age of twelve, that he, quite by accident, came across a copy of The Sky People by Brinsley Le Poer Trench, and from then on, there was no stopping him. The British part-series Man Myth and Magic was read with intense interest, followed by the discovery of John Keel's Project Trojan Horse and Jacques Vallee's Passport to Magonia. What followed was a voracious and unquenchable need to know everything about everything. At university, he chose courses that would accommodate his wide interests, specializing in the sociology of religion, the theory of language development, and the art of the Italian Renaissance. A post-graduate course in management leads Anthony away from his calling as a writer and into a career as a manager in various UK businesses. His interest in the esoteric continued with a growing fascination for quantum physics and neurology developing over the years. It was in the year 2000 that his life was to change. A fortuitous set of circumstances allowed him to take a year's sabbatical from his business career, and he decided to focus the fruits of all his reading and research on writing a book.Exactly one year later, he surfaced with the manuscript of his first book, then entitled Cheating the Ferryman. This book was a distillation of all his areas of interest, quantum physics, neurology, ancient myths, altered states of consciousness, and the mystery of death. This book has now sold over 60,000 copies worldwide and has been translated into various foreign language editions, including Spanish, Russian, and Polish. Indeed, Anthony has now had books published in every major European language.Anthony has now written eight books, co-authored a ninth, and co-edited a tenth. All of them develop his Cheating the Ferryman hypothesis into ever-wider areas of application. His approach has always been to apply science to the mysterious and the enigmatic. His tenth book, a work on the time plays and time theories of British author-playwright J.B. Priestley, was published in 2018. In 2019 a sequel to his book, Opening the Doors of Perception, will be published. Also in 2018, an audiobook of Anthony's first work, Is There Life After Death – The Extraordinary Science of What Happens When We Die, was released with Anthony reading his own writings. Please enjoy my conversation with Anthony Peake.

Sheryl Gottschall has had a life-long interest in the paranormal and began studying the phenomenon of Near Death Experiences (NDEs) in 1980, soon after becoming a member of the International Association of Near Death Studies (IANDs). In 1995 she hosted IANDS co-founder, Dr Ken Ring while he was on tour in Australia presenting research for his future book Mindsight: Near Death and Out Of Body Experiences In The Blind. Little did she know she would experience an NDE for herself the following year during a serious decade long illness. Sheryl's interest in NDEs paralleled her interest in UFOs, so in 1988 she joined the Brisbane based organisation, UFO Research Queensland (Australia). At that time the organization was soon overrun with ever growing reports of alien abduction experiences so in 1992 Sheryl, with her late husband Dr Martin Gottschall, established the first close encounter support group in Brisbane which they facilitated over the years, on and off, as needs arose. Expanding her interest in the UFO subject and the move towards disclosure, Sheryl was invited to fill the role of the Australian representative for the International Association of Extra-terrestrial Research (ICER) which launched in May 2021, and is the first truly international group of UFO researchers from 30 countries working together. Sheryl loves media and has been a weekly guest on the Spooky Action radio show (2018), co-hosted the Strange Encounters radio show (2019), the Insomnia radio show 2022 (current) and now co-hosts the fortnightly show – Strange Encounters Downunder. These shows have served as a further catalyst for members of the public to report their experiences to her, many of who have never shared them before. https://www.youtube.com/@UFOResearchQueenslandThis show is part of the Spreaker Prime Network, if you are interested in advertising on this podcast, contact us at https://www.spreaker.com/show/4602609/advertisement

Marjorie Woollacott, Ph.D., is an Emeritus Professor of Human Physiology, and a member of the Institute of Neuroscience, at the University of Oregon. She was chair of the Human Physiology Department for seven years. In addition to teaching courses on neuroscience and rehabilitation, she taught courses on complementary and alternative medicine and meditation. She is Research Director for the International Association of Near-Death Studies (IANDS) and is President of the Academy for the Advancement of Postmaterialist Sciences (AAPS). Woollacott graduated magna cum laude from the University of Southern California and was elected to membership in Phi Beta Kappa. She received her Ph.D. in Neuroscience from the University of Southern California and her M.A. from the University of Oregon in Asian Studies. She was also a research professor in the Department of Psychology at the University of Umea in Umea, Sweden, and in the National Center for Scientific Research in Marseille, France. Woollacott has received over 7.2 million dollars in research funding for her research in child development, aging, rehabilitation medicine and most recently, meditation. Her areas of expertise include: 1) changes in attentional performance skills and underlying neural networks associated with the mental training of meditation and tai chi; 2) the phenomenon of spiritually transformative experiences, including near-death experiences, 3) the development of balance and attentional abilities in children and factors leading to loss of balance function in aging, and in patients with movement disorders, 4) the design of assessment and treatment strategies to improve balance and attentional abilities. These include testing the efficacy of alternative forms of therapy such as tai chi and meditation for improving both attention and balance and gait abilities in patient populations; and 5) the development of musical performance skills in musicians. Woollacott has published more than 200 scientific articles and written or co-edited eight books. She is the co-author, with Dr. Anne Shumway-Cook of the textbook for health care professionals, titled: Motor Control: Translating Research into Clinical Practice, in its 6th edition (2021). Her latest book, Infinite Awareness (2015) (winner of eight awards, including the 2017 Parapsychological Association Book Award, Eric Hoffer Book Award and the Nautilus Book Award) pairs Woollacott's research as a neuroscientist with her self-revelations about the mind's spiritual power. Between the scientific and spiritual worlds, she breaks open the definition of human consciousness to investigate the existence of a non-physical and infinitely powerful mind.

Want to know what it's like to have a near-death experience? Then this conversation is for you. We're joined by the near-death experiencer, author, and co-founder and President of the International Association of Near-Death Studies (IANDS), Kimberly Clark Sharp. She shares details of her near-death experience when she was 22 and the profound lessons it taught her. Also, as a long-standing facilitator for in-person support group meetings for near-death experiencers, she also gives us the low down on fascinating stories from people she's worked with, including commonalities of NDES, and what these experiences can teach us all about the afterlife. Watch this presentation free at- https://youtu.be/XNSihByRml8 9,304 views Feb 25, 2022 IANDSvideos 42.9K subscribers ABOUT JEFFREY LONG Jeffrey Long, M.D. has scientifically studied over 3500 near-death experiences (NDEs). He will review his NDE research that found powerful evidence of the afterlife. Dr. Long will present his current groundbreaking investigation of the content of NDEs that address humankind's ageless questions which include: Is there an afterlife? What is the afterlife like? Is heaven a reality? This is the largest scientific investigation of sequentially shared experiences exploring the nature of the afterlife ever reported. Insights into the afterlife from NDEs do not seem explainable by pre-existing cultural or religious beliefs. The evidence-based and inspiring conclusion of this study is that the afterlife is real. ABOUT IANDS IANDS is a membership nonprofit 501(c)(3) organization with a mission to advance an understanding of near-death and related experiences through research, education, and support. We envision a future in which all people embrace near-death and related experiences as a source of meaning and inspiration for a better world. We believe a near-death experience can transform an individual's life, influence the sciences, and embolden society. The International Association for Near-Death Studies, (IANDS) engages in far more than research today. IANDS has members from around the world. We invite you to consider becoming a member of IANDS. To learn more about near-death experiences, visit iands.org. ✨ Join the International Association for Near-Death Studies (IANDS): https://iands.org ✨ IANDS online events, groups and more: https://isgo.iands.org ✨ The next IANDS Conference is Sept 2-5, 2022 in Salt Lake City, UT ✨ Please subscribe to this channel for new video notification. Thank you! What is a NDE or Near-Death Experience? A near-death experience (NDE) is typically a profound, life changing, intensely emotional experience that usually occurs during a clinical crisis and has common characteristics and aftereffects. It is not a dream, hallucination, or mental illness (Greyson, 1983). There are no predictive variables to identify who will have an NDE. They happen to people of all ages, religions, socio-economic groups, cultures, educational backgrounds, and belief systems. They occur under a variety of circumstances such as accidents, near-drownings, illnesses, combat, surgical procedures, and childbirth. Following an NDE, experiencers (NDErs) often display some common aftereffects. Research has established a set of common NDE characteristics and long-term aftereffects. Common theories used to explain near-death experiences have been proven inadequate by NDE researchers and others. In episode #87 our guest is Barbara Bartolome; she is a double NDE survivor and Founder and Director of the International Association for Near-Death Studies (IANDS) group in Santa Barbara, CA. She has been on the NBC Today show, and in multiple documentaries, podcasts, and radio shows. Today, we'll be talking about how her NDEs contributed to her life and what we can learn from these events. Her NDE in 1987 was during a medical test prior to surgery. She was able to view her body from overhead and watched the doctors try to revive her.She was aware that she had died but felt completely calm, without worry as she looked down at her body and watched her own flatline. She felt a presence that “felt like God next to her” and began to say how she needed to go back to her children while watching the medical team try to resuscitate her below. Most people who are near-death experiencers don't talk about it right away.Near-Death Experiencers often report an increased level of intuitive/ psychic abilitiesHow Barbara learned to hide her intuitive “gifts”What you think may be your intuition may be assistance from the other side. Why it's important for the medical profession to accept and understand that NDEs are realDuring her NDE, she felt like she needed to go back, not only for my children, but also for completing her purpose#NDE,#neardeathexperience,#premonition,#barbarabartolome,#IANDS,#NDERF,#reincarnation,#drmarycneal,

Dr. Bruce Greyson is the Chester Carlson Professor Emeritus of Psychiatry and Neurobehavioral Sciences at the University of Virginia. He was previously on the medical faculty at the University of Michigan and the University of Connecticut, where he was Clinical Chief of Psychiatry.Dr. Greyson is the author of After: A Doctor Explores What Near-Death Experiences Reveal About Life and Beyond. The book challenges our everyday ideas about our minds and our brains and offers key insights on how we can begin to live a more meaningful and fulfilling life.
Sheryl has had a life-long interest in the paranormal which began in her teenage years, but in 1980 she began seriously studying the phenomenon of Near Death Experiences. Soon after she joined the International Association for Near Death Studies (IANDs) and in 1995 hosted Dr Ken Ring for the Brisbane leg of his Australian tour where he presented research for his future book Mindsight: Near Death and Out Of Body Experiences In The Blind. She also developed a deep interest in the UFO phenomenon, catalysed by her father-in-laws interest after he attended a UFO meeting hosting George Adamski in the 1960s. In 1988 she joined the Brisbane based Association, UFO Research Queensland, and three years later took on the role of President. Then in 1992, Sheryl and her late husband Dr Martin Gottschall, established the first close encounter support group in Brisbane after Budd Hopkins Australian tour. Dr Rings book The Omega Project: Near Death Experiences, UFO Encounters, and the Mind At Large (1992) ignited Sheryl's interest in the connections between UFOs and NDEs which was now being corroborated by the witnesses she was interviewing. Some years later in 2012, she established the monthly Afterlife Discussions group where she continues to find links between UFOs and the afterlife in the stories shared. Sheryl is also the Australian representative for the recently launched International Coalition for Extraterrestrial Research (ICER), the first truly global international UFO organisation that considers we now need to prepare for confirmation that the Earth is being engaged by non-human intelligences. ICER aims to take this discussion to the highest levels of governance, including the United Nations. Sheryl has had many paranormal experiences herself including an NDE, a bi-location experience, Out of Body experiences (OBE), UFO sightings, a close encounter with non human intelligences (ETs), poltergeist activity, automatic writing, and other unexplained phenomena; all of which propel her to continue on her quest to understand what it means to be human. Sheryl's research bridges the Afterlife and UFO subjects, and wanting to understand the UFO phenomenon more deeply led her to train in shamanism which she now teaches. She speaks regularly about the UFO phenomenon and the Afterlife at public meetings, conferences, community groups, schools, libraries and has given hundreds of media interviews. She has written articles for many UFO and New Age magazines and in 2018 was a regular guest on the weekly Spooky Action radio show and co-hosted the Strange Encounters radio show in 2019. Currently she is a regular writer for the UFO Research Queensland bi-monthly publication, UFO Encounter. Sheryl works as a clinical hypnotherapist, teaches Reiki, art therapy, shamanism and will be launching the Strange Encounters podcast in August 2021. Near-death experiences (or NDEs) are typically experienced in life-threatening conditions and correspond to a state of disconnected consciousness. The NDEs are remarkably consistent in the features reported and appear to be a cross-cultural phenomenon. - Since initially being studied by Dr. Raymond Moody, the field of NDE research has expanded rapidly, creating its own research institution, “International Association for Near-Death Studies” (IANDS), and scientific journal, the “Journal of Near-Death Studies”. - It has been reported that 4-8% of the general population report having had a NDE. Furthermore, 10-23% of cardiac arrest survivors report having had a NDE. - Interestingly, in many NDE cases, the experiencer's brain is impaired, compromised, or non-functional, yet the experiencer reports having had clear mental faculties and vivid perceptions after the experience. This is quite the paradox for out current materialist paradigm. - Herein, we investigate the scientific claims and research within the NDE field, discuss the history and prototypical characteristics of NDEs, compare NDEs to other mystical experiences such as those induced by psychedelic substances, and attempt to uncover the mechanisms at play responsible for NDEs. - What say you?
