There are only a handful of broadcasts in the history of television that became must-see, cultural events. The ABC movie, 'The Day After', from 1983, is one of them. In the early 80s, as fear of Nuclear War ramped up, ABC planned to air a Sunday night movie that dealt with what nuclear war would really look like. In November 1983, this kicked off a firestorm of attention--both good and bad--that resulted in one of the biggest viewing audiences in TV history. This is a look back on the movie that not only terrified the public, but became a watershed moment in the history of the Cold War... Check out new episodes early and ad-free: Patreon.com/80s

My guest this week is author of "The Athos Diet" and director of the emergency department at UPMC, Dr. Peter Patitsas. Informed by his Greek Orthodox heritage, he has discovered a method to stay healthy with high energy to meet the daily grind. Dr. Pete visited Greece many times as a youth and lived there after graduating college. He was forever impacted by his journey to Mt. Athos and has spent countless weeks living at monasteries across the globe: a place where time stops and meaning is the highest good. It is no coincidence that within a place of the True, the Good, and the Beautiful, there would be found something that can bring a salve to suffering. We discuss the spiritual and physical benefits that the diet governed by the liturgical calendar of the Orthodox Church can give to us. Almost two years ago, I decided to do Ayahuasca. I felt like it was my time after all the hype and buzz about it. You can listen to my initial experience in the episode below.A year ago, I decided to do it again — this time more consciously, more aware, and for myself. That experience will remain private. Finally, a week ago, I had my last experience with this sacred medicine, and I felt like I needed to share this one because what came up wasn't only for me.For the first time, I went into the ceremony with a clear intention and a question. I wanted Grandmother Ayahuasca to tell me how we can save the world from the chaos, destruction, and division we are experiencing and what my small contribution could be.And... she sure gave me an answer.(Please note I do not encourage nor recommend any usage of psychodelic substances.)Connect with me:Instagram:https://www.instagram.com/annamaluskitzmann/Sing up for a The Healer Is In You newsletter:https://gem.godaddy.com/signups/3e4d761650fb4eccb0bd1b27391b397b/joinEnergy Healing session with me:https://calendly.com/thiiy/pranic_healing_session?month=2023-09 Breathwork session with me:https://calendly.com/thiiy/breathwork-session-1?month=2023-09Support small sustainable business:https://goodgoodsstore.co/This podcast is intended to inspire, and support you on your journey towards inner peace, healing and growth. For the past five years, Pastor Alex has had a monthly lunch meeting with a few guys to talk about social, racial, and societal issues. We have had black, white, and Latinos men all coming together to share our perspectives, ask questions, and listen to each other. This lunch started after the George Floyd incident in May of 2020 when my friend Hector connected me with Lieutenant Dave Meyer to gain perspective from all sides of that issue. From there, we kept meeting to talk about other issues and events like Breonna Taylor, Rayshard Brooks, Jacob Blake, Tyreek Hill, etc. We discussed all the issues you discussed on social media. Now, we are finally ready to share our conversations with the world. We will do this in a 10-week series of podcasts and then plan on releasing the book next year. “Lunch to Save the World” tells the story of how people from all different walks of life come together to civilly discuss what's going on in our world! It is beauty that moves the human soul. Whether through a piece of art, sound, or the vastness of the night sky, we are drawn toward creation, toward wonder, toward something beyond ourselves. It is curiosity. It is innovation. It is communion. Beauty is directly connected to our existence. Before we know God as provider, healer, comforter, savior…In Genesis 1:1 “In the beginning God created…”. He introduces himself first as “Creator”.What God does next is perhaps his most adventurous and riskiest creation, the introduction of Human Choice. Our ability to create came from Him, what we create is on the other side of choice. It is because of this we decide what we bring into this world and what it reflects. There is too much sickness in this world to not create beautyThere is too much mental illness in this world to not create and innovateThere is too much war in this world to not create beautyThere is way too much corruption in this world to not createThere is too much meaninglessness in this world to not create beautyThere is too much hopelessness in this world to not createThere is too much brokenness in the world around us to not create and innovateOur Culture is too broken to not create, innovate or bring beauty in this world. Beauty created the world, Beauty can save the world. For more info, you can go to our website, check us out on Instagram, Facebook, or YouTube. Software is eating the world, right? We've all heard this phrase by now, but inventor and investor Pablos Holman has something important to add: “The world can't eat software.”That's why Pablos focuses on “deep tech”, i.e. how to invent new solutions to real world problems like energy, water, waste, construction, and sanitation. Pablos says we're still mostly using version 1.0 technology for these fundamental systems, but recent advances, including AI and the ability to prototype and test in software, are enabling incredible innovation in hardware.Pablos has worked with Jeff Bezos, Bill Gates, and more. He's kind of a mad scientist and in this episode we'll discuss things that sound like science fiction, but that Pablos says are coming soon, such as solar panels in outer space that can beam clean energy down to earth, autonomous cargo ships blown by the wind across the ocean, and tiny nuclear reactors buried a mile underground that power the world above. At Deep Future, Pablos is on a mission to solve the world's biggest problems, and he's hoping more people will make the jump that he did from software to hardware and into deep tech, because, as he says, “ all the people who've been building software their entire career, those are the ones who are going to save the world.”—More on Pablos: Deep Future: https://deepfuture.tech/Deep Future podcast: https://deepfuture.tech/podcast-index/ —Support CRAFTED.:Sign up for the CRAFTED. newsletter: https://www.crafted.fmSubscribe to CRAFTED. on your favorite podcast platformShare this episode with a friend or colleague!
