The E.N.D.D: Dustifying The 40th Parallel To Enclose Fractal Clairvoyance Via the Draco Contract.
One of the biggest challenges in growing a nonprofit is donor acquisition and donor retention. Acquiring new donors is hard work. And it can be expensive in the short term, especially if you consider that the first-time gift most donors make won't cover the cost of acquisition. What that means for your fundraising is that you have to have a donor retention strategy in place—because donors grow more valuable every year they're with you.Today on the podcast, Claire Axelrad is going to walk us through seven action tips you can easily implement to improve your donor retention. Most of these tactics are evergreen, and you'll find that most of them are really simple. It's just that not many nonprofits are using them. Some take more of a commitment, but the return on investment makes it well worth the effort and the initiative.Claire has over three decades of frontline fundraising experience, helping organizations raise millions in support. She writes an award-winning blog called Clairification, and she also runs the Clairification School online. Today we'll cover:[3:14] - Action Tip #1: Including a handwritten note with your direct mail appeal. This week, Colin was privileged to be asked to give a keynote address at the East Midlands Health and Safety Forum event on the subject of dust, most notably respirable crystalline silica, which has been associated with elevated rates of lung cancer, and the measures being used to combat the effects of dust in the quarry industry. Now you can hear Colin's fascinating keynote address for yourself, as this week's episode is a direct recording of that very keynote event. KEY TAKEAWAYS Dust is the second biggest killer in the construction industry. Typically the worst problem areas are sand and concrete, wood dust, gypsum and plasterboard. Larger dust is known as “Inhalable”, and can generally be seen by the naked eye. Smaller dust is known as “Respirable”. Your body has a great number of natural defence mechanisms. Saliva prevents dust from being inhaled. If your mouth is dry on a dusty site, then this is your body doing its job. Silica is all around us and in the majority of cases doesn't cause any problems. It quickly loses its toxicity, but if inhaled before that point can lead to lung disease. The best ways to combat harmful dust inhalation are: Enclose it Extract it Suppress it In 2003, when the England Rugby team went to Australia to participate in the Rugby World Cup, they took their own pillows with them. This was to ensure that the team got a good night's sleep, and so felt that tiny bit more prepared for their opponents. With dust, it's all about incremental, small preparations that lead to the bigger victories. BEST MOMENTS 'Dust is defined by its size' 'That is your body telling you that you've been exposed to something' ‘When I run I breathe 440 million times a year!' ‘Most of the dust in this room is dead skin - so that's nice isn't it…' VALUABLE RESOURCES The Interesting Health And Safety Podcast - https://podcasts.apple.com/gb/podcast/training-competency-creating-effective-plan-process/id1467771449?i=1000452692837 ABOUT THE HOST Colin Nottage ‘Making health and safety as important as everything else we do.' Every business wants more A and B clients and less C and D clients, but how do you find them? One of the best ways is to create an internal marketing survey and ask your A and B clients some simple questions. The more you can learn about you’re A and B clients, the more you’ll also learn about where you can find them, and you can use this information in your future marketing, however, there are a few rules to follow. Hardcopy - 90%+ I know many businesses send out electronic surveys because they’re cheaper to distribute, but the open and completion rate is low, so I’m not a huge fan. I much prefer hardcopy surveys, the ones that arrive in your letterbox. I know it sounds outdated, but I’ve used hardcopy surveys for years, and our return rate was always close to 90%+ However, a poorly constructed hardcopy survey can still fail. The concept of hardcopy survey works, I know this for a fact, but the delivery and process to follow is critical. 7 Tips Here are seven tips to remember to make sure your next internal marketing survey is a massive success. It should be simple and only have five to seven questions so that it can be completed in less than 90 seconds. It should fit on one page and not extend onto multiple pages. A bonus of keeping the back page blank, it gives you an opportunity to print and promote another service you offer. Enclose a stamped, self-addressed envelope. No one is going to throw away an envelope with an unused stamp. You want to make this whole process as simple as possible. Enclose a $1 or $2 Instant Win Scratch-It, as a thank you for completing the survey. Construct a cleverly written cover letter explaining the reason for the survey, and have fun with it. You can mention if they win big with the Scratch-It they can come back to your business and spend big. Before sending the survey, you need to have a meeting with your team and identify your A and B clients Develop the questions in the survey, and the questions will vary depending on your purpose. For example, if you’re considering radio advertising you may ask: Do you listen to the radio? – local radio stations – national radio stations – I don’t listen to the radio What times do you listen to the radio? – mornings – during the day – drive time – evenings What do you watch on TV? – Which TV stations? free to air TV pay TV Netflix – What are your favourite programs? What do you read? – newspapers: local national free weekly Do you read locally published magazines? Are you a member of any social or sporting clubs? As I previously mentioned, this information is essential when it comes to planning your future marketing, as you want to maximise your results by only attracting your target market, which is more A and B clients and fewer C and D clients. Opposite Results The results from your surveys will sometimes be the exact opposite of what your Sales Rep may be telling you about their marketing product. I had a Sales Rep from a locally published free magazine visit me, and they explained how good their publication was and why it would be perfect for my business. Fortunately, I had already started my internal marketing survey and found that none of my A and B clients liked this free magazine; however, clients that were identified as being C and D clients did read it and looked forward to it each month because it was free. Isn’t that interesting? So if you’re considering using internal marketing survey, which I think you should, make sure you have a process to follow and continually tweak the questions to learn more about you’re A and B clients. The question many of your potential customers will have is this: “Who else has purchased this product or service . . . and what happened when they did? If you can show these people proof that others like them have purchased your product or service— and have enjoyed some wonderful benefits as a result of that purchase— you will greatly increase your chances of making a sale. Before you set out to gather testimonials, make two lists: Every claim, feature, benefit, and fact about what you are marketing that you want to substantiate.Every doubt, fear, or question that might exist in your prospective customer’s mind that you want to answer. Now, collect testimonials that specifically substantiate your claims and eliminate your customer’s doubts. Here’s the four-step method I use to collect testimonials from happy customers: STEP ONE: Make up a short list of some of your best clients/customers. These are people who you know love your company, as well as your products or services. STEP TWO: Send these people a very short questionnaire, along with a short cover letter. STEP THREE: Make the client/customer feedback form simple to answer and easy to return. Enclose a prepaid envelope and format it on one page so it can be easily faxed back. STEP FOUR: When the forms come back, write up the comments you have under this heading: People who should listen to this show are entrepreneurs
