Born and raised in the Cascade Mountains, Bob Antone hails from a family of storytellers, artists and musicians. He and his wife Laura have spent years collecting folktales and legends of the Pacific Northwest and beyond. Bob is a tour guide, wood carver, writer, musician, visual artist, historian and public speaker. He and his wife Laura host storytelling gatherings as well paranormal research and walking tours of historical locations. As a result, the couple wrote and published a book in 2019 known as "The Odd Man Up" including a deep dive into North American mythology.Their anthology of paranormal mysteries and true crime tales is available on Amazon as an e-book. In today's episode, we are heading to Chichester, a beautiful Roman city in the UK, to chat with Michaela Ford, who is a primary school teacher and host of the Paranormal Or What Podcast. Michaela recounts her personal paranormal experiences that began at a young age. One was a mass school sighting of three hooded figures that twenty of her fellow classmates also witnessed. This was wild, but the adult staff members could not see the entities at the time. This was brushed under the carpet and labelled a group hallucination by the school teachers. Michaela connected with and found more witnesses to these mysterious figures, and she found that these pagan deities were seen throughout the history of her town. Michaela also shares stories related to the Fae, some of which shockingly collaborate with each other. A stickman-like entity that literally escaped our reality by unzipping and creating a portal! It's the season finale of Capes ‘N Cowards, and we saved the best for last. Today we're talking about Minor Threats, the delightfully diabolical comic from Patton Oswalt, Jordan Blum, and Scott Hepburn that ignited an all-new universe. The series follows five D-list supervillains who try to stop a rampaging superhero called the Insomniac from tearing their city apart. After the Insomniac's sidekick, Kid Dusk, was killed by his nemesis, the Stickman, the Insomniac was thrust into the pursuit of vengeance, and the only way for our heroes- I mean, villains- to put an end to it is to kill the Stickman themselves. The story features an imaginative twist on the familiar archetypes and tropes of comic books, all from the perspective of the kinds of characters usually stuck at the bottom of the food chain. Can't get enough caped capers? Good, because this episode has an all-new audio drama from the world of Minor Threats. Hear the triumphant ascension of two misfit nobodies, B.A.C. and Parvus Canus, who use their respective masteries over whiskey (as well as other fluids) and dogs (under forty pounds) to seize a new future together. It's truly a beautiful tale.
For nearly a decade, almost as long as we've been doing this podcast, Stickman Brews has been the unequivocal purveyor of the finest beers in Southeastern Pennsylvania. As of October 2023, this, like all good things, has come to an end. In all seriousness, Ethan Buckman – the inimitable proprietor and brewer for Stickman – along with partners Jim Buckman and Kate Sorrento, and many other fine folks who worked to make Stickman the unique endeavor that it was, have joined the ranks of our most loved and appreciated friends in the industry. We sit down this episode with Ethan for his “exit interview” to discuss the factors and decisions that lead to the closing, the state of the beer industry (and food and beverage generally) and where it may be headed, and of course some ruminations on what the future may hold for Ethan. While we are sad to see the end of Stickman Brews, the friendships we made along the way will endure, and we are certain there are great things coming from everyone who was a part of the Stickman team.
