In a post capitalist society with equal opportunity and no need to work for all citizens, where does inherent human nature drive people? Do they rise to greater heights or become lazy and goalless? Are people still in control of their own fate when AI teach the children, AI provide a police force, and AI look after the mentally ill? Maji grows up when this type of society is brand new and she becomes lost, not knowing what she wants to become. Just because equality has been achieved does not mean the new society has no pitfalls.Featured tech:A.R. glasses - Augmented reality glasses for digital overlays.V.R. rig - Virtual reality rig for immersive gaming experiences.Explorers of Paris Underground - VR game set in a simulated underground Paris.Assist - AI assistant for messaging, navigation, and voice commands.Old tablet - Handheld device used for drawing and creative work.Emulated teachers - AI teacher personalities that individually guide each student.Double-decker train system - 24/7 underground train with upper and lower levels running opposite directions.Constructor bots - Robots that carve rock and build structures with neighborhood appeal.Arboretum - Botanical garden facility within the underground colony.Farm animal petting zoo - Interactive animal facility for residents.Memorial plaza - Public commemorative space built by robots.Computer with emulated A.I. personalities - System hosting 20 million AI engineers and scientists for factory planning.Automated manufacturing factories - Self-operating production facilities capable of making anything.Recycle systems - Technology converting all garbage into reusable resources.Food and water utilities - Next-generation systems providing surplus fresh food and water.Household trash robots - Daily robots that collect, sort, and process household waste.Geothermal power plant - Energy source powering the entire underground colony.D. sub-surface hologram portraits - Holographic displays of historical figures.A.R. “Enclosed Minds for an Enclosed System”The source is a monologue from a podcast or live stream that proposes an “off-world stage” perspective, which views major news events as intentional, staged psychological operations or “Psyops,” rather than random occurrences or mere coincidences. The speaker argues that the “media government entertainment complex” systematically manufactures history through propaganda, creating an “enclosed system” that limits the perspective of the “enclosed minds” who accept the mainstream narrative without question. Using a recent UPS plane crash and its numerous alleged connections to figures like Dick Cheney and 9/11 imagery as a core example, the speaker advocates for a “parallel media” that operates with open inquiry, rigorous analysis of “hoax indicators” (like predictive programming and drills), and a recognition of systemic fakery. The host differentiates his viewpoint from both the mainstream and other “truther” communities, asserting that his “functional model” provides a correct and predictable framework for understanding a reality compromised by a pervasive propaganda matrix. That's a straightforward request! Based on the source material you provided, here are five quotes that capture key ideas discussed in this episode excerpt:“The default position is that these are only coincidences. There's no intentionality.”“Open-minded refers to open inquiry. We don't have a closed informational system.”“The only real conspiracy, the one that no one's going to talk about if they're on the world stage, is the world stage itself.”“If your perspective mirrors wiki and chat GPT, don't act like you're a paragon of open-mindedness when you are in fact a t cell for the immune system of the beast.”“Media is a fantastic liar. So, anybody who's not aware that they're in the world stage needs to be exempt needs to be looked at appropriately as far as their opinions... They don't know what media is. And we do.”
Enclosed within the city of Rome and spanning just 0.2 square miles, Vatican City is the world's smallest independent state. Yet within its fortified walls lies a history of immense power - a city that became the beating heart of Catholicism, where popes crowned emperors, defied kings, and shaped the course of world events. How did this unassuming patch of land rise to become the centre of global faith and authority? What scandals, schisms, and sacrifices threatened to tear it apart? And why, even today, does this ancient enclave still hold sway over more than a billion lives? This is a Short History Of The Vatican. A Noiser podcast production. Hosted by John Hopkins. S6 E8: Celebrating Helen Hoyt: A Summer Conversation between Sarah and RebeccaIt was a golden afternoon in the heart of summer when we met to celebrate a quiet but powerful voice in American poetry—Helen Hoyt. As sisters and co-hosts of The Book Dialogue, we've often found ourselves drawn to poets who speak across time, whose words seem to reach out and take our hands. Helen Hoyt is one of those voices. Our connection began months earlier on Rebecca's Reading Room, where we recorded a joint recitation of Annunciation—a poem that shimmered with quiet awe and grace. That reading opened a door into Helen's poetic world, one marked by restraint, dignity, and deep interior vision. What followed was something we never expected.Rebecca received a handwritten letter from Helen Hoyt's granddaughter, Lulii Lyman, who had listened to our reading. Enclosed with her note was a rare copy of A Girl in the City, a collection of Hoyt's poems written between 1912 and 1919 during her years in Chicago, and published decades later in 1970. Lulii's words have stayed with us.“Rebecca, I know my Grandmother would love for you to have one of her poetry books. She would also appreciate that you have kept her name and writings alive. Love, Lulii.”That generous act became the seed of a new conversation. On a sunlit day, we gathered again—this time to read Ellis Park, one of the poems from A Girl in the City. It was a deeply personal moment for Rebecca. She was living in Edmonton at the same age Helen was when she wrote this poem, and she found herself walking the same emotional terrain described in the poem. Helen's voice, so clear and interior, mirrored feelings Remember remembered from that time in her life. Our conversation, captured in this latest episode of The Book Dialogue, is not only about poetry—it's about memory, legacy, and the invisible threads that connect us across generations and geography. This post marks the beginning of a new series where we'll continue to explore Helen Hoyt's work. Through her poems, we are reminded that even quiet voices carry forward, shaping lives and lighting paths long after they are written.Stay tuned for more reflections and episodes. We are honoured to walk alongside Helen Hoyt's voice, one poem at a time.Ellis ParkLittle park that I pass through,I carry off a piece of youEvery morning hurrying downTo my work-day in the town;Carry you for country thereTo make the city ways more fair.I take your trees,And your breeze,Your greenness,Your cleanness,Some of your shade, some of your sky,Some of your calm as I go by;Your flowers to trimThe pavements grim;Your space for room in the jostled streetAnd grass for carpet to my feet.Your fountains take and sweet bird callsTo sing me from my office walls. All that I can seeI carry off with me.But you never miss my theft,So much treasure you have left.As I find you, fresh at morning,So I find you, home returning —Nothing lacking from your grace. All your riches wait in placeFor me to borrowOn the morrow.Do you hear this praise of you,Little park that I pass through?Sarah & RebeccaMusic by Epidemic SoundOur New Home By Sleeping Vineshttps://www.epidemicsound.com/track/ReJuTi457q/Smell of Morning Coffee By Franz Gordon https://www.epidemicsound.com/track/f1gXJ8DevC/

A brief tale of the dismal success of a scientist's experiment. Anton's Last Dream by Edwin Baird. That's next on The Lost Sci-Fi Podcast.Another podcast, another debut—this time for author Edwin Baird. Best known as the first editor of Weird Tales magazine, Baird helped launch the iconic American fantasy and horror pulp, whose first issue was dated March 1923 and hit newsstands on February 18 of that year. However, Weird Tales got off to a rocky start. Plagued by financial difficulties, the magazine struggled, and Baird was dismissed after just one year at the helm. Born in Chattanooga, Tennessee, in 1886, Baird published four short stories during his lifetime—three before Weird Tales and one in the very magazine that let him go.Yet perhaps his most enduring legacy lies in his editorial decisions. As the magazine's founding editor, Baird was among the first to publish the work of a now-legendary author: H.P. Lovecraft. And if you've heard our earlier episodes, you'll recall that Lovecraft was a tireless letter writer. Thankfully many of his letters were preserved, including this one to Baird.Shortly after the first issue of Weird Tales was published Lovecraft let himself be persuaded to send Edwin Baird five manuscripts. This is a portion of the letter Lovecraft sent, “My Dear Sir: Having a habit of writing weird, macabre, and fantastic stories for my own amusement, I have lately been simultaneously hounded by nearly a dozen well-meaning friends into deciding to submit a few of these Gothic horrors to your newly-founded periodical. The decision is herewith carried out. Enclosed are five tales written between 1917 and 1923.I have no idea that these things will be found suitable, for I pay no attention to the demands of commercial writing. My object is such pleasure as I can obtain from the creation of certain bizarre pictures, situations, or atmospheric effects; and the only reader I hold in mind is myself. My models are invariably the older writers, especially Poe, who has been my favorite literary figure since early childhood. Should any miracle impel you to consider the publication of my tales, I have but one condition to offer; and that is that no excisions be made. If the tale can not be printed as written, down to the very last semicolon and comma, it must gracefully accept rejection.”So there you have it, a little piece of science fiction history thanks to Weird Tales editor Edwin Baird.Published in Weird Tales Magazine in May 1937 on page 607, Anton's Last Dream by Edwin Baird…Next on The Lost Sci-Fi Podcast, A Certain Young Man Finds Dying a Profitable Business. SOMETIME IN 1922, a letter came in to the city of Pendleton. Enclosed with it was a bill for $45 — for a set of new Goodyear tires. It seemed the letter writer had come to Pendleton for the annual Pendleton Round-Up and had lost both front tires to the city's downtown potholes. Pendleton's potholes were famous, both for their size and for their intractability. They seemed hungry; one filled them up and a few weeks later they were empty again, as if some night-stalking gravel thief had scooped it all out. It wasn't until the 1970s and 1980s, when some of Pendleton's most intractable roadbeds got a complete rebuild, that road crews realized what the problem had been: Tunnels. The town was honeycombed with them, running a few feet below the ground level, connecting the basements and sidewalk vaults downtown with various other places nearby. And, that's how the Pendleton Underground was rediscovered. (Pendleton, Umatilla County; 1890s, 1900s 1910s, 1920s) (For text and pictures, see https://offbeatoregon.com/2410d1001e_PendletonUnderground-673.059.html)

The Enclosed Garden is one of the oldest expressions of civilization, and possessesa long and direct relationship to symbolism and mythology. Such a garden creates afertile place of verdant abundance, a haven of peace and quiet, shade and water, order and pleasure and a retreat from a hostile, threatening and chaotic wilderness. The world beyond the wall is boundless, expansive, universal, timeless and chaotic.By contrast, the world within the wall provides us with a sense of palpability of therich dark earth or the ‘erotic' sense of space; senses and feelings of safety, finitudeand individuality: a Temenos for the soul. This lecture explores three images of theEnclosed Garden: the Garden of Eden, the Islamic Garden and the Taoist Garden. The enclosed garden symbolises not only our coming into being, but also our journeyof becoming.

Diversion? https://erickimphotography.com/blog/2024/08/18/sports-set-yourself-free/ Audio: https://erickimphotography.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2024/08/SPORTS.m4a --- # NEVER SIT What is the weirdest and most bizarre thing in modern-day life? Enclosed spaces, sitting? ## Achilles One visual I really like from the movie *Troy*, with Brad Pitt as Achilles, is when he's in his little hut, sleeping with his beautiful babes, and he's woken up by the kid who tells him that he needs to fight this really steroided-out barbarian fighter. The first thought… I think the reason why people love camping so much is that it is far more natural and naturalistic; essentially, all day, you're outside, and even in the evening, you're al fresco by the fire… hanging out! And this is the bizarre thing… what is modernity? The *preference* to be indoors, with weakening air conditioning, or the preference to sit, instead of the preference to be out and about, traversing the outdoor terrain? ## Ideas I'll give you examples: the enclosed modern-day gymnasium. Now, about a year without a gym membership… I've discovered how bizarre it is. First, if you think about the naturalistic gymnasium of the ancient Greeks, it was an open-air gymnasium. Pretty much like a huge massive plot of dirt or sand, and a bunch of naked dudes working out, doing bodily combat exercises, training, hanging out talking shop, etc. I think the problem in today's world is that we have commoditized everything. We've even commoditized the human body, and we have applied both capitalistic and consumerist notions to the body. For example, weight. Weight, like calories, is the most insanely foolish idea. For example, let's say that you are 6 feet tall and 300 pounds. Now this is different if you are 80% body fat, a morbidly obese man, or if you are 5% body fat, and you look like a demigod. Imagine someone like Ronnie Coleman without the steroids. This is very pernicious with women; I think this is the bizarre contradiction: men are always trying to gain weight, while women are trying to lose weight. If we think about this from a modern-day capitalistic productivity perspective… with money, we are always trying to gain it, never lose it. But if we thought about money like weight, the analogy starts to change a bit. There is nobody on the planet who likes to lose money. Nobody. Also, almost universally… Everyone likes to gain money. Also... it seems that people also like to *spend* money. But the bizarre irony is that **the moment you spend money, you lose money**. Then the thought is, that is OK… I'll just keep working harder, in order to earn more money, in order to spend it more. ## White people make money don't spend it I almost feel like Kanye West almost figured everything out. Of course, not everything, but a lot. --- This portion explores themes around modern society's norms and behaviors, particularly the contradictions in how we live, exercise, and manage our resources like money and health. There's a critique of indoor living and a comparison to more natural, outdoor activities, along with an analysis of the commodification of the body and the absurdities of modern economic behavior.

This week on the Construction Genius Podcast, we are joined by Hans Lorei, a designer based in the Nashville Metropolitan Area. In this conversation, we bring you a glimpse of the designer world where we discuss commercial and residential spaces, the key elements of a great space, the unique kinship between music and design, and many more topics related to being a good designer. Hans Lorei entered the construction world as a real estate agent in 2015. After transforming to design and development, he noticed a similar trend with short-term rentals: better-looking properties with more facilities had higher occupancy and rented at higher rates. He started a consulting business a few years ago, helping people with short-term rentals. He likes to do long-term projects and looks forward to working with people who like to do exciting things and take chances. Starting the conversation, Hans shares his designer journey and explains what makes a good design, along with the two elements that make a great space: enclosed space and open space. We then talk about the most unique similarities between music and design, where you can find an interesting story behind the process of producing a song and building a place. Spending a lot of money on something doesn't mean it's going to be good. Most of the time, it's not the money, but the taste. In the next phase, Hans kindly explains the value of a good designer, who should have the ability to balance rations, details, plans, and texture. Furthermore, Hans shares both the pros and cons of reinventing yourself according to the changes in time. It is a superpower and a choice, but not a necessity. EPISODE HIGHLIGHTS [03.19] Hans's designer journey [08.04] Commercial and residential space. [10.00] Enclosed spaces and open spaces. [18.00] The democratization of music with social media. TIPS AND TOOLS TO IMPLEMENT TODAY Be persistent, have faith, and don't force things to happen. Take time to be intentional about small details in a building. The value of a designer comes with the ability to balance rations, details, plans, and texture. The evolution of style is a choice, not a necessity. A great space should include both elements of enclosed and open spaces. Are people problems eroding your company's profits? In this episode, host Chris Jennings talks with Jay Anglin about the rapid migration of birds in the Mid-South and Northwest regions. They talk about how the birds are moving so quickly that scouting becomes almost useless. They also mention the presence of snows and specs in certain areas, as well as the remarkable mix of juvenile birds with the leading edge birds. www.ducks.org/DUPodcast
