Nuacht Mhall. Príomhscéalta na seachtaine, léite go mall.*Inniu an séú lá de mhí na Nollag. Is mise Oisín Mac Conamhna.I Stáit Aontaithe Mheiriceá Déardaoin, thug an tAimiréal Frank Bradley fianaise don Chomhdháil faoi dhá ionsaí a rinne Cabhlach Mheiriceá ar bhád a bhí ag iompar drugaí, de réir Washington, ar an dara lá de mhí Mheán Fómhair. Scaoil siad dhá dhiúracán ar an mbád ar dtús, a bhris as a chéile ina dhá chuid é,agus a mharaigh gach duine ar bord seachas beirt, a bhí fágtha, de réir cosúlachta, agus iad longbhriste sa raic. Ansin scaoil an Cabhlach dhá dhiúracán eile chun an bheirt údaí a mharú, agus d'éirigh leo. Is coir chogaidh é, agus sárú ar Choinbhinsiún na Ginéive, mairnéalaigh longbhriste a mharú. Ta sé ráite ag an rialtas le Uachtarán Trump go bhfuil cogadh ar siúl idir Stáit Aontaithe Mheiriceá agus na cairtéil atá ag iomportáil drugaí ann, acht is conspóideach an cogadh é, ó thaobh an dlí de, mar sin féin.I Sasana, tá fiche a hocht duine a bhí ar scoil le Nigel Farage i gColáiste Dulwich, Londain, tar éis a rá don nuachtán The Guardian go bhfaca siad bulaíocht chiníoch nó fhrith-sheimíteach uaidh ag an am sin. Dúirt Peter Ettedgui, stiúrthóir scannán mór le rá atá ina Ghiúdach, go raibh sé mar nós agFarage a rá leis go raibh an ceart ag Hitler, nó a bheith ag siosarnach leis amhail is dá mbeadh gás nimhiúil ann. Dúirt Yinke Bankole gur thosaigh sé ar scoil ann nuair a raibh sé naoi mbliana d'aois, agus bhí Farage thart ar seacht déag, agus gur cuimhin leis Farage ag díriú a láimhe agus ag rá leis gur sin an bealach ar ais go dtí an Afraic. Dúirt comhscoláirí éagsúla gur chonaic siad Farage ag canadh “Gásaigh iad uilig”, nó agmí-úsáid a chumhachta mar chinnire go ciníoch; agus dúirt roinnt comhscoláirí go bhfaca siad Farage ag caitheamh maslaí ciníocha go minic. Ghlac Farage páirt ollmhór i bhfeachtas an Bhreatimeachta, agus anois tá sé i gceannas ar an bpáirtí Reform UK, atá chun tosaigh ar leibhéil náisiúnta ar thart ar 30% snaphobalbreitheanna sa Ríocht Aontaithe. Dúirt Farage nár thug sé íde béil chiníoch d'aon ghnó riamh, agus nach ndearna sé iarracht dhíreach, dháiríre daoine a ghortú.Bhí tráthnóna mór ann in Áras Inis Gluaire i mBéal an Mhuirthead Dé hAoine, le tacaiocht mhór ón eagraíocht Gaeilge Iorrais, nuair a sheol Aire na Gaeltachta Dara Calleary an leabhar “Scéal Muirí Mhuigh Eo” le Breandán Mac Conamhna, foilsithe ag Mayo Books Press. Insíonn an leabhar scéal oidhreacht mhuirí an chontae ón gClochaois go dtí an lá áta inniu ann. Tá sé scríofa go hiomlán i gcanúint Iorrais, tuaisceart Mhuigh Eo, agus dár leis an údar, a rugadh i mBéal Deirg ar chósta thuaidh an chontae sa bhliain 1936, is é an chéad leabhar dá leithéid ar feadh seachtó bliain, ó tháinig an Caighdeán Oifigiúil an an bhfód. Do mhol an tAire an saothar, tábhacht na canúna, agus an leabharmar bhrontannas Nollag; agus tar éis an seolta bhí béile agus ól, ceol, damhsa, amhránaíocht, caint agus craic.*Léirithe ag Conradh na Gaeilge i Londain. This has spawned lots of conversations about: how long it really takes to knit something, how hard on your body it can be to knit for long periods of time, and whether crafting with time pressure is a fun challenge or just robs the joy out of our hobby. Several pigskin partiers have shared their experiences with times crafting challenges, such as the sheep to sweater challenges, sock madness, and the super sock world challenge. This week, I'm joined by one of the best talents in modern horse racing, five-time British Champion Jockey Oisín Murphy. Oisín takes us far beyond the headlines and the finish lines. We explore his remarkable rise in the sport, the relentless pressure that comes with staying at the top, and the physical and mental toll of life as a jockey. Oisín speaks with rare honesty about his battle with alcoholism, the daily struggle to maintain race weight, and the intense scrutiny that followed his toughest moments. But this is also a story of resilience. Oisín reflects on the highs of his career — the iconic wins, the moments that made history — and the ongoing work of rebuilding, staying sober, and striving to be better every day. It's candid, it's human, and it's a powerful insight into a world few truly understand.LinksOisin's book

53 lives were saved from drowning thanks to the swift and selfless actions of rescuers who have been recognised at Water Safety Ireland's National Annual Awards. The ceremony, which took place on Tuesday, honoured 73 individuals, including a number from Clare, whose bravery prevented water tragedies across Ireland and abroad. On Wednesday's Morning Focus, Alan Morrissey chatted to Oisín McGrath; one of the deserving Clare recipients. Alan Morrissey was also joined live on the line by Keith McDonagh, Kilkee resident and paramedic and Caoimhe Moroney, 15-year-old from Kilfenora. Image (c) watersafety.ie
This episode of the podcast features the writer Patrick Holloway, whose debut novel, “The Language of Remembering” was released earlier this year. The book tells two parallel stories: the first is set “Now” and details Oisín's return from Brazil with his wife and daughter and his reconnection with his mother Brigid, who is suffering with early onset Alzheimer's. The second, “Then” details Brigid's early life in the same small town, as she deals with an unexpected pregnancy. Patrick himself lived in Brazil and pursued a Masters and PhD in Creative Writing and he has produced poems and short stories that have also explored themes of language, belonging and grief.
Three trophies were handed out on Leeside over the weekend while torrential rain forced the postponement of the Intermediate A and Senior A deciders.Kilbrittain got the sliotar rolling with a gritty win over Glen Rovers, whose second team represented the club superbly in the Premier Junior decider.Just a point separated the sides at full-time, with Kilbrittain lifting the cup on the same day Oisín Gillain would have turned 19. The gifted youngster died tragically and his team-mates honoured him in fitting fashion under Friday night lights.Mark Hickey was picked as Man of the Match with Ronan Crowley and Philip Wall also nailing big scores.Saturday's double-header was put back at short notice due to the orange weather warning but Sunday's two games went ahead.Ballinhassig were outstanding in the Premier Intermediate final against a Ballincollig team that came in with huge momentum after winning four games on the bounce. Hassig took over midway through the second half when the sides were level at 0-16 apiece, ramming in two goals and finishing six points in front, the same margin they defeated Collig by in the opening round.Patrick Collins' nous in goal, Ger Collins' deadly free-taking, the poise of Darragh O'Sullivan and impact of second-half sub Evan Cullinane were critical factors. Ballincollig were allowed hit full stride though Brian Keating landed some sensational points from play.John O'Sullivan's side will be strong contenders for Munster success now, especially if they can get their injured hurlers fully firing.Senior Munster champions Sars lived up to their billing as favourites against Midleton in what was a disappointing Premier Senior final. The loss of Conor Lehane and Eoin Moloney to injury was too much for the Magpies to bear, with James Sweeney raising two white flags and Jack O'Connor selected as Man of the Match.Incredibly, Sars veterans Craig Leahy, Daniel and William Kearney and Conor O'Sullivan captured the Seán Óg Murphy Cup for the sixth time since their breakthrough in 2008. The aim now for Johnny Crowley and Diarmuid O'Sullivan's charges is to return to the All-Ireland stage in January, having lost last season's final. The Echo Podcast crew also break down the action at divisional level, with a number of Junior A finals across the weekend. They preview the five county finals next weekend, a mix of hurling and football, headlined by a classic St Finbarr's v Nemo Rangers showdown on Sunday. Now in its third season, every week Éamonn Murphy is joined by The Echo team, including Barry O'Mahony, Denis Hurley, Rory Noonan, Jack McKay, John Horgan and more to discuss all the latest Cork GAA news on and off the field. You can listen to the Echo Sport Podcast every week wherever you get your podcasts or on www.echolive.ie/podcast. This live episode of the Nialler9 Podcast was recorded in Segotia in Rathmines Dublin on September 27th as part of their one-day festival Me Au Segotia. Segotia is a community space for yoga classes, creative courses, art classes, exhibitions and events in Dublin. Our panel was about how to sustain independent music communities in Dublin. As music grows ever more entangled with unethical platforms and increased corporate interests – artists, organisers, and fans are rethinking their roles in the ecosystem, and building alternatives. This live episode of the Nialler9 Podcast explores how to build and sustain independent music communities in Dublin and what they look like. We look at how artist, collectives, and grassroots organisers are cultivating alternative networks — through co-operative communities, music collectives, community-run festivals to local independent venue spaces and more. Nialler9 and Andrea Cleary host with guests: Alba Molina Dublin Digital Radio, Synthesize_Her, Dublin Modular, Dublin Alternative Latin Night Inpar and curator/organiser of Alternating Current – Dublin Digital Radio's annual of the experimental and grassroots currents in contemporary Irish music. Nuacht Mhall. Príomhscéalta na seachtaine, léite go mall.*Inniu an seachtú lá is fiche de mhí Mheán Fómhair. Is mise Oisín Mac Conamhna.Dé hAoine i Londain, caitheadh amach an cás i gcoinne Liam Óg Ó hAnnaidh, ball den ghrúpa ceoil Kneecap. Cuireadh ina leith gur thug sé tacaíocht d'eagraíocht thoirmiscthe, nuair a tháinig físeán de cheolchoirm a rinne an grúpa i Londain i mí na Samhna 2024 chun aird na bpóilíní, tar éis dóibh a ndlúthpháirtíocht le muintir na Palaistíne a chur in iúl ag an bhféile Coachella sna Stáit Aontaithe i mí Aibreáin. Dúirt an Príomh-Bhreitheamh Paul Goldspring go raibh an cúiseamh neamhdhleathach, mar níor thug an tArd-Aighne agus an Stiúrthóir Ionchúiseamh Poiblí a gcead dó dul ar aghaidh laistigh de sé mhí, agus bhí an cead a thug siad lá thar am. Dúirt Ó hAnnaidh nach raibh an cás faoi sceimhlitheoireacht, acht faoi Gaza. Bhí Blinne Ní Ghrálaigh KC, abhcóide Chonradh na Gaeilge i Londain i gcás leacht cuimhneacháin Margaret Keane, ina fhoireann cosanta.D'fhoilsigh an Roinn Cultúir, Cumarsáide agus Spóirt anailís costais is tairbhe ar an mBunioncam do na hEalaíona, a shocraigh gur as gach euro a caitheadh, cruthaíodh €1.39 de thairbhí sóisialta agus eacnamaíochta. Thosaigh an scéim píolóta in 2022, agus ó shin tá 2000 ealaíontóirí ag fáil €325 inaghaidh an tseachtain, chun deis a thabhairt dóibh díriú isteach ar a n-obair chruthaitheach. Tá an scéim chun críochnú i mí Feabhra 2026, acht tá an rialtas ag obair ar cheann nua, a bheidh mar chuid de Bhuiséad 2026.Foilsíodh staidéar faoi bhlaosc de Homo longi, an speiceas de daoine ársa ar a thugtar na “Deiniseóbhaigh”, san irisleabhar “Science” an tseachtain seo. D'aimsíodh an blaosc in Yunxian sa tSín, agus de réir na hanailíse, tá sé thart ar mhilliún bliain d'aois. Tá an iontaise brúite go dona, acht bhí na heolaithe in ann é a scannáil, an dífhoirmiú a bhaint de go digiteach, agus priontáil thríthoiseach a dhéanamh de cheann ceartaithe, a chruthaíonn gur Deiniseóbhach a bhí i gceist. Tá an fhionnachtain tábhachtach, má tá sé dátaithe i gceart, mar tá an blaosc i bhfad níos sine ná gach iontaise eile de chuid na nDeiniseóbhach a aimsíodh cheana; agus léiríonn sé an fhéidearthacht go bhfuil ár speiceas fhéin, Homo sapiens, i bhfad níos sine ná a ceapadh cheana freisin. Agus tá oidhreacht na nDeiniseóbhach inár measc go fóill; mar atá cúpla faoin gcéad de DNA Néandartálach i ngach duine ar domhan seachas na hAfraicigh fho-Shaháracha, tá cúpla faoin gcéad de DNA Deiniseóbhach fós i ndaoine éagsúla in oirdheisceart na hÁise agus ar oileáin an Aigéin Chiúin.*Léirithe ag Conradh na Gaeilge i Londain. ‘Hope should never Die' – Bobby SandsWednesday 20th August marks the anniversary of the death on hunger strike in 1981 of Mickey Devine. Mickey was the last of the ten men to die and several weeks later the hunger strike end on 3 October. It was also the day the by-election was held in Fermanagh South Tyrone caused by the death in May of Bobby Sands. Owen Carron successfully held the seat as the ‘Anti-H-Block/Proxy Political Prisoner' candidate. This Sunday the annual National Hunger Strike March and Rally will take place in Belfast. Republicans and others remember with pride and sorrow those who died on hunger strike in 1981, as well as Michael Gaughan 1974 and Frank Stagg 1976, and others of earlier generations. The men of the H-Blocks and the women of Armagh Women's Prison hold a special place in republican hearts and minds. We also remember all of those who died during that summer of 1981.An ClogánAmong the many excellent events at this year's Féile an Phobail was the launch of a new journal called An Clogán (The Little Bell). It is an independent, politically unaligned magazine that takes its name, and I suspect its design as an A5 booklet, from The Bell. This was a left oriented magazine edited and published in the 1940's and 50's by Peadar O'Donnell, Roisin Walsh and Sean Ó Faoláin.An Clogán, which is edited by Oisín Gilmore and Oisín Vince Coulter is an ambitious magazine containing 27 contributions from a wide range of writers, including Claire Mitchell, Robbie McVeigh, Phillip Pettit, Martina Anderson, Margaret Ward, and an interview with me.

Nuacht Mhall. Príomhscéalta na seachtaine, léite go mall.*Inniu an naoú lá déag de mhí Iúil. Is mise Oisín Mac Conamhna.Tuairiscíodh sa Wall Street Journal gur scríobh Donald Trump litir bhreithlae ghraosta leath-thagairteach chuig Jeffrey Epstein, an t-airgeadaí agus péidifileach a chuir lámh ina bhás féin in 2019. Tá an tuairisc séanta ag Trump. Tá an-tacaíocht ag teoiricí comhcheilge faoi choireanna Epstein i measc lucht QAnon agus MAGA, dílseoirí Trump de ghnáth, agus anois tá an chonspóid ag éiri ina fhadhb pholaitiúil dó. Gheall Trump san fheachtas toghcháin go gcuirfeadh sé amach gach eolas faoi Epstein atá ag an rialtas, agus anois tá a chuid tacadóirí ag fanacht air. Dúirt Elon Musk ar X le linn troid mhór phoiblí le Trump an mhí seo caite go bhfuil Trump féin i gcomhaid Epstein.Thosaigh tochailt agus dí-adhlacadh fóiréinseach choirp na leanaí atá curtha ar shuíomh an iar-árais máithreacha is leanaí i dTuaim an tseachtain seo. De réir taighde a rinne Catherine Corless, níl taifead adhlactha ag beagnach 800 leanbh a d'éag san áras idir 1925 agus 1961, nuair a raibh an t-áras i mbun oibre faoi na Siúracha Bon Secours, ar son Comhairle Contae na Gaillimhe. Dheimhnigh fiosrúchán ar an suíomh go bhfuil go leor cnámha leanaí ann i seanchóras séarachais an árais. Tá 5,000 meadar cearnógach sa suíomh, agus meastar go mbeidh an tochailt ar siúl go cionn dhá bhliain ar a laghad, ag iarraidh a fháil amach cé atá curtha ann.Tá deireadh seachtaine mór spóirt ann faoi láthair. Inniu tá an chéad mhórchluiche de chamchuairt Leoin na Breataine agus na hÉireann ar siúl, i gcoinne na hAstrála i mBrisbane. I bPort Rois in Aontroim, tá Rory McIlroy agus Shane Lowry ag iarraidh an Chraobhchomórtas Oscailte Gailf a bhaint, den dara huair san áit chéanna i gcás Lowry, tar éis bua cáiliúil aige ann in 2019. Agus Dé Domhnaigh i bPáirc an Chrócaigh, beidh Corcaigh agus Tiobraid Árainn san iomaíocht le haghaidh Chraobh Iománaíochta na hÉireann. Sergeant Marlon Marrache recently retired from the Los Angeles Police Department after 24 years of service. He now is focused full time on helping agencies and individual officers understand the internal affair process. Marlon's 24 years at LAPD included 12 years of Police Misconduct Investigation, adjudication, and examination experience. Much of his experience comes from when Marlon was assigned to Internal Affairs (IA) in a prosecutorial role, representing the Chief of Police conducting Board of Rights, a unique Tribunal Hearing (the only agency with such a process in the nation). The numerous cases he tried involved “False & Misleading” allegations and termination was at issue. However, Marlon has also been assigned to Officer Representation Section (ORS) defending, representing the rank and file in Skelly Responses and most important, during the administrative process in an OIS or other critical incidents. Marlon ensured IA Investigators were not violating the Peace Officer Bill of Rights Act (POBRA). In 2023, Marlon launched a podcast called The IA GUY A Police Podcast. Marlon interviews guests who have been on all sides of an I.A., from investigators to the subject officers themselves. Further, Marlon provides analysis on critical incidents through the lens of an IA. This podcast is the only place you can get “transparency” and a behind the scenes look into what really happens in IA investigations including the process. In recent years, Ireland has seen a steady increase in anti-immigration, racist and conspiracy laden politics. What began as an online fringe has manifested in recent months and years into events such as the Dublin riots in 2023, or the burning down of buildings destined to house asylum seekers across the country. While the sentiment and emotion behind Ireland's anti-refugee activists tends to be represented in the media by racist and xenophobic protesters, there are underlying cultural and societal issues that have been trigger points the political fringe have latched on to.Here, we delve into the issues that have given rise to far-right sentiment in Ireland, such as the housing crisis, the Covid-19 pandemic and post 2008 austerity.Roscrea crew: Oisín Deignan, Peter Cooney and Eoin Ronayne.
