Chuck Todd opens with the morning-after analysis of Indiana's primary results, which he says show Trump still has plenty of juice with his own party — roughly $13 million was spent to influence about 100,000 voters, and the results have created new urgency for Republican-led states across the South to redistrict before the midterms. He notes that being on the wrong side of Trump remains a career-ending move in the GOP, that Thomas Massie's upcoming primary will be a critical test of Trump's intra-party strength, and that Trump has effectively postponed the perception that he's a lame duck — even as the Iran war continues to crater his standing with the broader public. He flags Ohio as setting up to look like a real swing state in 2026, with Vivek Ramaswamy's polarizing style creating an opening for highly-regarded former Ohio Health Director Amy Acton, and notes that Iowa and Ohio could both move back toward genuine battleground status. Hethen walks through his fascinating recent participation in a political crisis simulation premised on the idea that January 6th wasn't an anomaly — three teams (Institutionalists, Nationalists, and Capitalists) competed for power, and the entire exercise revolved around who could get the capitalists on their side, since their core interest was simply enrichment and instability. The most revealing detail: in the simulation, Congress barely existed and had no measurable impact on outcomes, which Chuck argues mirrors reality and exposes the deeper problem facing American democracy. His blunt verdict: America doesn't actually have a polarization problem — it has a Congress problem, because weak legislatures inevitably create strong executives, Trump simply filled the vacuum a broken Congress created, and the looming gerrymandering wars (with at least eight states set to redraw their maps before 2028) will make Congress even less functional and more purely partisan than it already is. Then, Ashley Trice and Rob Holbert — co-publishers of Lagniappe, the alt-weekly turned investigative newspaper covering Mobile and Alabama's Gulf Coast — join the Chuck Toddcast to share the origin story of how their independent publication has grown into the region's premier investigative voice. They explain how Lagniappe started as a free paper and has now transitioned to a subscription model behind a paywall, why most newspapers won't even print these days unless they're certain it won't cost them money (and the surprising fact that there's a national shortage of available printers), and how the paper has built its reputation by covering everything from Mobile's local government to scandals in the wealthy parts of town and irresistible animal stories — both of which they say reliably grow audience faster than anything else. Trice and Holbert preview the upcoming Tuberville-Jones gubernatorial race, which they expect to be surprisingly close, and offer a withering assessment of outgoing Governor Kay Ivey's "very inactive" tenure. They walk through the political divide in Alabama where coastal Mobile often feels left out of the conversation, the surprising audience appeal of youth and high school sports coverage, and the looming threat of the Nexstar-Tegna merger gutting even more local newsrooms across the country. The conversation broadens into the practical realities of running a sustainable local newsroom in 2026. Trice and Holbert explain that the public has been trained to expect news for free, that reaching younger audiences now requires aggressive use of social media platforms and video content, and that live events have become an increasingly important revenue stream for papers like theirs. Trice and Holbert observe that small businesses are still reaching out about advertising — proof that print journalism continues to have a market — and close with a fascinating observation about how coastal Southern cities like Mobile tend to be less polarized than the rest of the South, with a genuine sense of community that gets lost in the national conversation about red-state politics. Finally, Chuck presents his ToddCast Top 5 gubernatorial one-party droughts that are most likely to end in 2026, and answers listeners’ questions in the “Ask Chuck” segment. Keir Starmer has endured another bruising day as the saga surrounding Peter Mandelson's appointment as US ambassador continues. The prime minister faced harsh criticism from his own MPs over his efforts to stave off a privileges committee investigation, while his former chief of staff Morgan McSweeney admitted putting pressure on the foreign office to expedite Mandelson's posting in highly anticipated evidence to a parliamentary committee. So how much peril is the prime minister in? Lucy Hough speaks to policy editor and host of Politics Weekly, Kiran Stacey. Help support our independent journalism at theguardian.com/infocus

Several years ago, Paula K had the original idea to set up the all women rock band, specifically for a fundraiser for ovarian cancer charity OvaCare. Paula explains, "The fundraiser was in memory of my mother Catherine who passed away from ovarian cancer, and she inspired the name. She was a feminist who loved to lift other women up. The Kates have been going ever since!” The premise behind forming The Kates back in 2017 was to showcase the depth and variety of songs by women featuring covers by artists like Sharon Van Etten, Orla Gartland, Angel Olsen, Lucy Dacus, Patty Smith, The Staves, and Haim. The Kates comprises of Eve Clague, Liz Clark, Mary Beth O Mahony, Míde Houlihan and Paula K. All five members have played, sang and written their own music for years, each releasing albums of original work. Their debut EP Pictures Here Of Dreams features a track written by each member of The Kates. Speaking about the upcoming album Paula K says, “We have spent the last year gigging and writing. The upcoming album is a collection of songs that happened between takes of our work and family lives. Naming that space as a creative outlet, where ideas were born and we found out more about ourselves as a band. Our Kates space.” New single ‘You Don't See It', sees Mary Beth O'Mahony take lead vocal on a song that features the writing talents of all five members of The Kates. They continue to lean into their rock background while the harmonies that brought them acclaim on their debut EP sound more dynamic and confident, finding comparison to contemporary peers like Pillow Queens and Little Green Cars. Once again we see The Kates talk about life as women and the unwanted pressure and attention often felt. Míde Houlihan's percussion cheekily taps into the concept and lyric of “Time keeps ticking”. The band are declaring time is up on these old fashioned ideals. The Kates are writing their own story and walking their own path. Since the release of their debut EP Pictures Here of Dreams in 2024 Cork band The Kates have gone from strength to strength. The Kates entered 2026 with the announcement of their debut album later this year with new single ‘You Don't See It'. Following the release of their debut EP The Kates went on to perform at Other Voices, Electric Picnic, and Clonakilty International Guitar Festival. The Kates also just performed at this year's Your Roots Are Showing conference in January 2026. In 2025 they toured both Ireland and Wales selling out DeBarras and Connolly's of Leap.
Today we're stepping into one of the most colourful, energetic, and wonderfully noisy traditions of the Tudor festive season, Morris dancing. You might picture modern dancers with bells and handkerchiefs on a village green… but in Tudor England, Morris dancing was bolder, brighter, and far more theatrical. In this video, we'll explore: - What Morris dancing really looked like in the 15th and 16th centuries - bells, ribbons, masks, mock combat, clashing staves, blackened faces, and vibrant costumes How it became part of court entertainment - including Henry VII's Christmas revels and Henry VIII's masques - Its deep roots in English folk culture - from May Day to Whitsun ales, parish festivals to civic pageantry - The unforgettable stock characters - Maid Marian (played by a man!), jesters, hobby-horses, Robin Hood, even dragons! - Why it mattered at Christmas and Twelfth Night - joy, misrule, community, and celebration at the darkest time of year - And how Morris dancing survives today - a living tradition linking us directly to the Tudor world If you've ever seen Morris dancing and wondered where it came from, or if you simply love the colour, spectacle, and spirit of Tudor celebrations, this episode is for you. Thank you so much for watching! Flyte are the British duo of songwriters Will Taylor and Nicolas Hill, who started creating together in grade school before signing to a major label (Island Records), leaving that for indie labels (Nettwerk), working with producers such as Ethan Johns, and collaborating with the likes of The Staves, Laura Marling, and Madison Cunningham. We talk with them about a lot of the inner workings of their songwriting practice and approach to record making, classic British emotional repression, coping, creative confusion, commodification, and a whole lot more.Get more access and support this show by subscribing to our Patreon, right here.Links:FlyteBlackabyNick LoweYep RocEleanor MossReal World StudiosEthan JohnsGlyn JohnsSigridEp 119 - Dan ReederBBC Radio OneClick here to watch this conversation on YouTube.Social Media:The Other 22 Hours InstagramThe Other 22 Hours TikTokMichaela Anne InstagramAaron Shafer-Haiss InstagramAll music written, performed, and produced by Aaron Shafer-Haiss. This week, Big Chief takes a heartfelt ride on The Whiskey Trip with two remarkable guests — Seth Fuston, U.S. Air Force Veteran and Co-Founder & President of Staves of Honor, and Eric Lytle, dedicated First Responder and Board Member. Together, they share the story of Staves of Honor, a nonprofit built to support veterans, first responders, and law enforcement officers through fellowship, charity, and the shared love of whiskey. What began as a small brotherhood of service members has grown into a nationwide movement — pouring hope and purpose back into the lives of those who've sacrificed so much. As a veteran himself, Big Chief understands the challenges that come after service — the search for belonging, the weight of the memories, and the need for community. Over two incredible barrel picks from The Blendery, the three men raise a glass to those who serve, protect, and continue to lead with heart: • “Final Ryde” – an undisclosed blend of 75/21/4 bourbon, 60/36/4 bourbon, and 95/5 rye whiskey, finished in a 15-year-old “BuffTurkey” barrel. • “Razz Hunny Pie” – a beautiful mix of 60/36/4 Indiana bourbon blended with a 51/45/4 bourbon from Green River, finished in an 18-year-old Barton 1792 barrel. With each pour, they talk about the mission, the meaning, and the magic that happens when whiskey brings people together for something bigger than themselves. So pour one with us, take a deep breath, and join Big Chief, Seth, and Eric as they toast to service, healing, and brotherhood — because at Staves of Honor, every pour has a purpose, and every sip honors sacrifice.

House lawmakers will start their Summer break a few days early today, vacating the capital until September. They're leaving early because Republican Speaker Mike Johnson is trying desperately – desperately – to avoid holding any votes on releasing materials related to the Jeffrey Epstein case. Over at the White House Tuesday, President Donald Trump did his best to turn attention away from Epstein and toward his latest conspiracy de jour, which is really just a remix of his favorite first-term conspiracy surrounding Russia's interference in the 2016 election (A.K.A. Russia, Russia, Russia). But House Democrats say no dice. California Democratic Rep. Robert Garcia, ranking member on the House Oversight Committee, talks about what Democrats are doing to keep the Trump administration in check. And in headlines: Interim U.S. Attorney for the District of New Jersey Alina Habba is out of a job…maybe, Trump announced a new trade deal with the Philippians, and the United Nations delivered a stark warning about mass starvation in Gaza.Show Notes:Call Congress – 202-224-3121Subscribe to the What A Day Newsletter – https://tinyurl.com/3kk4nyz8What A Day – YouTube – https://www.youtube.com/@whatadaypodcastFollow us on Instagram – https://www.instagram.com/crookedmedia/For a transcript of this episode, please visit crooked.com/whataday

Nogle gange har man bare lyst til at samle alle de bedste sange og springe mellemspil og andet over. Det er bl.a. det man gør i en musical revue og dem har vi samlet eksempler på i denne episode af Dig og mig og musicals
NEW PODCAST ALERT with Liza Lo! https://sistersinsong.callcast.coor wherever you get your podcasts! We talk with Liza Lo who grew up in Spain and Amsterdam and is now living in south London where she produced her first album “Familiar.” She had some great advice, “Just keep doing it—even if you feel like there's no point in doing it.” Drawing inspiration from the likes of Alice Phoebe Lou,Julia Jacklin, and The Staves, Liza Lo's sound meets an intersection where gentle folk-inspired instrumentation meets wistful indie-pop. Inspired by Liza's five-years living in South London, "Gipsy Hill" focusses on the feeling of slow separation from a place that feels like home. The forlorn tracks sees Liza's stirring vocal ruminate over the top of stripped back acoustic guitar and gentle string arrangements that swell into a poignant rush of melancholy. Speaking on the writing of the single, Liza says: "Throughout these 5 years I lost many of my close-knit relationships altered here, from true best friendship, to my parents marriage, to my own romantic love. It's a deeply sorrowful song that describes things from my childhood kitchen, to my best friend's porch and my insular communication after coping to learn withall this change. I hope this song finds some kind of connection with people, it's heartbreaking but I guess love is truly just everything in life and that's why it hits home. A song for the recently brokenhearted, a song for the people that have had to get to learn to live life differently when suddenly losing their best friend to brain injury, this is Gipsy Hill." The composer and producer, and multi-instrumentalist Ólafur Arnalds met the Cork singer-songwriter Eoin French aka Talos after he ran a marathon in Iceland. A friendship was struck, that quickly developed into a musical partnership, as seen at Sounds From A Safe Harbour in Cork in 2023, when the festival director Mary Hickson put the pair together for a collaboration. Now six months after Eoin's death, Arnalds and French's family, friends and collaborators have been celebrating the artist's creativity and legacy with the stunning song they wrote together 'We Didn't Know We Were Ready'. The song was performed on The Tommy Tiernan show on RTÉ in January under Arnalds' Opia community banner with vocals from Niamh Regan, Ye Vagabonds, JFDR, The Staves, Sandrayati Fay, Dermot Kennedy, Laoise Leahy, Memorial, Christof Van Der Ven and most poignantly of all, Eoin's wife Steph French. In our chat with Ólafur today, he recounts meeting Eoin, their creative time spent together and the instructions he received from Eoin before he died to finish the record they made together, which will be released later this year. * Support Nialler9 on Patreon, get event discounts, playlists, ad-free episodes and join our Discord community Songs referenced on the Nialler9 Podcast Spotify Playlist Listen on Apple | Android | ACAST | Patreon | Pocketcasts | CastBox | Stitcher | Spotify | RSS Feed | Pod.Link

Send us a textWelcome to Stories Come to Life. I am your host, Kathryn Lopez Luker. Here are the two final chapters, or staves, of A Christmas Carol, by Charles Dickens, as read by my father, Kenneth Luker. This time as I was listening to this old favorite, I was struck by how Scrooge is already prepared to learn and change from the Ghost of Christmas Yet to Come. That reminded me of how we all need to remain teachable and willing to become better people, not just at Christmas, but throughout the year. Now sit back, relax, and listen to this story come to life.Listening to audiobooks really does count as reading, and there's no better way to relax than to hear Stories Come to Life! Let me know what you think! Please send an email to me at kluker@marshallpl.org. I'd love to hear from you!
In this discussion I finish talking about Dickens' A Christmas Carol, by discussing Staves 4 and 5. The great gift Scrooge receives from the three ghosts is a awareness of the gift that had always already been given; this brings about a new life of gratitude in Scrooge. Life gets its full meaning only when one becomes grateful for what one has always already had - life itself. This is the meaning of the Christmas: the gift of Life Itself among us.

On this episode of Tent Show Radio, host & New York Times best-selling author Michael Perry and his band The Long Beds hit the Big Top stage. Michael Perry 's original songs are a direct reflection of his life experiences. Raised in rural Wisconsin by farmers, preachers, and tough country women, his songs reflect "certain wisdoms" available only from whistlers, frauds, and sinners. Ranging from straight-up twang to churchly harmonies and populated by characters drawn straight from rural and small-town America, they launch from places like the overpass outside Perry's beloved hometown of New Auburn, Wisconsin (population currently 562), a gospel service in a granary, and the kitchen floor of a woman about to drop a world of hurt on her drunken husband. Raised in a church so austere that hymns were sung with no choir, no accompaniment, and no church (the congregation met in a farmhouse and sat on straight-backed wooden chairs,) Perry and his brother learned to sit side-by-side and work out harmonies on the fly. Those Sunday mornings instilled in Perry a love of singing “clear and pure” that can be heard throughout all of his recordings. Perry began writing music in the early 1990s as a way to break up all-night typing sessions when he was struggling to survive on prose. Eventually, a musician friend invited him to play a coffee shop gig. Since then, Michael has released 4 albums, several singles, and toured - backed by a collection of renowned musicians who have performed on numerous stages throughout the world (including The Tonight Show, Austin City Limits, and Eaux Claires festival) and worked with a host of artists, including Bon Iver, S. Carey, The Staves, Miley Cyrus, Lizzo, Field Report, The Tallest Man on Earth, Jimmie Dale Gilmore, and many more. Every Long Beds show is built on roughneck ballads and freight train rockers interspersed with hilarious off-the-cuff tales from Mike's diverse experience as a Wisconsin farm kid turned cowboy turned nurse turned best-selling author.
