In our Season 6 finale, B. Cox is joined by Mac from MacTasticTV to review Chicago lady emcee Da Brat's debut album Funkdafied as it turns 30. Hailing from the west side of "The Chi", Da Brat got her chance at a deal when she won a Chicago rap contest and met the teen group Kriss Kross, who were signed to Jermaine Dupri's So So Def record label based in Atlanta. At the urging of the group, Dupri listened to her music and signed her to a deal. The debut album, produced entirely by Dupri, is packed with funk based beats driven by heavy bass lines and punctuated by Da Brat's sharp witted rhymes and barbs on record. The short album was carried by two popular radio singles: The title track "Funkdafied" featuring Dupri and "Give It To You".The public took to Da Brat and what she had to offer. The album went platinum making her the first solo female emcee to achieve that feat, setting the stage for the rest of the decade and other female counterparts who would follow in her footsteps. It is also the first major rap album from a rap artist from Chicago that broke into mainstream success.Follow MacTasticTV on YoutubeFollow MacTasticTV on IGMacTasticTV LinkTreeVisit The Vault Classic Music Reviews Onlinewww.vaultclassicpod.comBuy Exclusive The Vault Podcast Merchandise!www.vaultclassicpod.com/storeSupport The Vault Classic Music Reviews on Buy Me A Coffeehttps://www.buymeacoffee.com/vaultclassicpodBuild Your Own Amazing Podcast Website In Less Than 5 Minutes!https://www.podpage.com/?via=ivecre8Show NotesMedium: Revisiting Da Brat's Groundbreaking 'Funkdafied'https://medium.com/micro-chop/revisiting-da-brats-groundbreaking-funkdafied-3d618b603dcbAlbumism: Celebrating 30 Years of Da Brat's Debut Album 'Funkdafied'https://albumism.com/anniversaries/da-brat-funkdafiedSupport this podcast at — https://redcircle.com/the-vault-classic-music-reviews-podcast/donationsAdvertising Inquiries: https://redcircle.com/brandsPrivacy & Opt-Out: https://redcircle.com/privacy

Five years after New Kids On The Block disbanded, Jordan Knight made a comeback with a lively, carnival-themed song about wild sex. The track boasted a memorable video, a contemporary sound, and an irresistible chorus. Despite knocking it out of the park with “Give It To You”, Knight fell short in comparison to another former boy band member who ventured into solo territory. This week, we explore why the most talented New Kid couldn't keep us wet with another hit. If you like the show, be sure to rate, review, and subscribe. Email us at onehitthunderpodcast@gmail.com. This volume is packed with dance floor heat, chart-toppers, and timeless sensations that can awaken any dance enthusiast's soul. Kicking things off with Chaka Khan's string-infused Garage Mix of "Love You All My Lifetime," this set pays homage to the Diva Hall of Fame inductees. Martha Wash follows suit with "Give It To You" (Momo's Klub Mix), a testament to her fresh success following collaborations with Black Box and C + C Music Factory. The journey continues with chart-toppers from Lil' Louis, like "Club Lonely" and the soul-stirring "Saved My Life" featuring the fabulous Joi Cardwell. The spotlight then shifts to newcomers who dominated the charts such as Saint Etienne's "Nothing Can Stop Us," Opus III's "It's A Fine Day," Sunscreem's "Love U More" (Farley & Heller Heavy Club Mix), and Blue Pearl's "[Can You] Feel the Passion." One track that stands tall in this volume is "It's Gonna Be A Lovely Day" by The S.O.U.L. S.Y.S.T.E.M., a global dance sensation stemming from C + C Music Factory and gracing the famed "Bodyguard" soundtrack. The David Morales Def Mix of "I'll Be Your Friend" by Robert Owens, Maurice's Club Mix of "Hey Mr. D.J." by Zhane, and the Union City Mix of "The New Anthem" by Reel 2 Real featuring Erick More are just a few of the tunes that make this collection shine. These 90s House Music Classics reflect a time when DJs were experimenting with transitions, moving away from the middle breaks popular in the 80s. It's a detail that only adds to the charm of this collection, capturing a unique musical moment in time. The flawless mixing, epic music, and painstaking remastering of tracks like the Kenlou B Boy Mix of "Only Love Can Break Your Heart" by Saint Etienne and David Morales' 12" Dance Mix of Pet Shop Boys' "Where The Streets Have No Name" (I Can't Take My Eyes Off You) showcase why these sets are so thrilling. While we await the final set of this two-year exploration, Party Favorz assures that this musical escape is here to help you through life's challenges. Let the melodies be that unchanging constant, bringing light to the tunnel. Until the next time...ENJOY! This week my guest Leigh tells us about being “indoctrinated” into the world of New Kids On The Block by an over-enthusiastic Blockhead cousin, and we discuss the lyrically reprehensible and musically unreasonable “Give It To You” by Jordan Knight. We uncover Robin Thicke, Alan Thicke, and Donnie Wahlberg's roles in this supremely creepy “forced anthem,” we get an unreliable, secondhand account from Jordan Knight assuring us that his conquest did indeed “want this,” and how his history with NKOTB might've created the sense entitlement we hear in these lyrics.
