Hello and welcome episode 47 of The DJ B-12 Deep Acid House Experience. I hope you are all doing well out there and I appreciate your support and listenership. This show is for the month of September 2023, and it is dedicated in memory of Ainsley Talbot, my 10-month 3-week-old kitten who passed on August 29, 2023. She had a terrible condition that left her disabled after she was about 2-3 months old. Although she was born normal with her surviving sister, Arianna and her brother, Jackson, it seems, her mother, Gracie (who was a stray cat I took in 3 weeks before they were born), contracted a virus while she was pregnant, which resulted in only Ainsley developing a condition that caused her cerebral cortex to not form properly. It started out with her motor skills diminishing and eventually led to her being only able to lay on her side and needing help doing everything. She was a true fighter, and she will always be my little hero and my best friend, but her broken little body just had enough.  She was the most beautiful, precious, and loving soul I've ever known.  As you can imagine, this was a bittersweet episode for me to do with losing her so young, which is one of the reasons it took me so long to get out, but I wanted to get a fresh mix out with new tunes that I could also dedicate to her. Although this set was worked out ahead of her passing, some of the tracks took on a special meaning because of lyrics and titles. RIP Ainsley girl. This has been one of my most challenging mixes yet to date, as a lot of these older tracks don't stay in time very well, so I put a lot of extra work and effort into this episode to bring you the absolute best show possible. I know I usually release the Mardi Gras anthem editions closer together in early March due to the timing of the party but this year as the event was toned down, I felt that it couldn't hurt to release volume 16 a little later in the month. This 16th edition of MG Anthems is a throw back to the old school classic anthems that dominated the party in the late 80's and through the 90's. These are the original club mixes from the era so there is a blend of mixes from Wayne G. Hex Hector, Motiv8 and Trouser Enthusiasts. Mary Kiani, Carlotta Chadwick, Crystal Waters, Tatijana and Sunscreem all have classic tracks featured here. So if you were hitting the dance floor in the 90's you will know exactly who I'm talking about. TRUE HOUSE STORIES WITH FARLEY & HELLER INTERVIEW BY LENNY FONTANA PODCAST 025 (PART 2) Respected UK dance music producers and remixers, Terry Farley and Pete Heller initially found success in the UK in the early 90s. Londoner Terry Farley was a fan of Studio One reggae and ska before becoming involved with the London soul club scene during the 80s. Pete Heller grew up on the south coast of England and began his musical career by Djing in a Brighton discotheque, playing disco, hip-hop and house. After playing warm-up sets for Danny Rampling, Heller and Andrew Weatherall formed the Boy's Own collective, running a fanzine, Boy's Own club nights and eventually a record label - Junior Boy's Own. Farley and Heller's initial productions as a team with Hugo Nicholson were released as Bocca Juniors. Since then, they have remixed for many artists including Michael Jackson, Jamiroquai, Sunscreem, K-Klass, Simply Red, New Order, U2, Janet Jackson, Boy George, and the Pet Shop Boys. Their own productions have appeared under the name Fire Island and have been hugely popular on the club scene. As Fire Island, they covered Machine's 1979 classic ‘There But For The Grace Of God'. Their 1997 recording ‘Ultra Flava' was a huge hit in European clubs and Ibiza and eventually became a UK Top 40 hit when the vocals of Ultra Naté were added. In 1999, Heller's track ‘Big Love' was signed to Pete Tong's London Records and quickly became ubiquitous on European dancefloors (especially those in Ibiza) before entering the UK charts at number 12. Building on their reputation as excellent club DJs, they also mixed Late Night Sessions for the Ministry

Party Favorz is serving up a heaping pile of 90's House Music classics with volume two of the year's 1992 through 1993. There's a boatload of dancefloor sizzlers and number ones in this set that I'd be hard-pressed to pick any favorites. This set kicks off with the glorious "Love You All My Lifetime" by goddess and previous Diva Hall of Fame inductee Chaka Khan quickly followed by another inductee Martha Wash ("Give It To Me") who was fresh off her work with Black Box and C + C Music Factory that parlayed those massive successes into a record deal. Lil' Louis who already had a string of successes starting with "French Kiss" in 1989 (featured on volume three of 1988 - 1992) generated two chart toppers with "Club Lonely" and "Saved My Life" (featuring Joi Cardwell) from his brilliant Sony Music sophomore effort "Journey With The Lonely." We also get introduced to new artists like Saint Etienne ("Nothing Can Stop Us"), Opus III ("It's A Fine Day"), Sunscreem ("Love U More"), and Blue Pear ("[Can You] Feel the Passion") all of who found massive success on the dance floor and the charts. [youtube v="VSesIUk-5Yw"] Perhaps the biggest smash in this volume is "It's Gonna Be A Lovely Day" by The S.O.U.L. S.Y.S.T.E.M. a product of C + C Music Factory featuring the vocals of Michelle Visage. The song was originally featured on mega-selling "Bodyguard" soundtrack and went on to be a certifiable worldwide smash on the dance charts. After refreshing my memories on many of these tracks — it dawned on me that there was a period of time when many of the biggest hits never had a break in the middle nor the end to mix out of. This doesn't make it impossible to mix tracks (unless there's a DJ friendly edit by Ultimix or Hot Tracks) as long as there are enough songs that have them. In fact, none of the songs featured in these sets have a middle break to transition out of as if it fell out of favor with DJs at the time. It was used extensively in the 80's and makes a comeback later in this decade before falling out of favor again in the mid-millennium with the spotifycation of quick radio edits (don't get me started). Overall, I'm really stoked about how well these sets are turning out. The mixing is flawless, the music is EPIC and the remastering of these timeless treasures is a time-consuming effort but well worth it. We've got one more set to go for this two-year period and will pick back up with 1994 - 1995 in January because I've got to get back on track with fresh releases in Dance Club and Circuit & Anthems before closing out the year with our annual Top Dance Club Songs of the Year and Blow Your Own Horn series. At the moment, I realize that life can feel pretty bleak for many of you but I assure you, there's light at the end of this tunnel. Just know that Party Favorz is here to help you get through it all. I like a lot of music but I reserve LOVE for very few pieces of music. I usually "frame" my mixes around the particular pieces of music that I love the most. Most of the time my sets are built around a few songs that are my favorites and sometimes it will be literally, one song, that the entire set is built for. Mix) - Nick Straker   Notes and other random things: Well, if the new episode hadn't already tipped you off ... I'm back! Please, no applause (surely none of you applauded). It was great to get out of town for a week even though about a third of the trip was spent in the car. Yup. About 2200 miles in total. But if you've been keeping up with these podcasts you've probably come across several posts that discuss road trips. Personally, I enjoy them. There's nothing quite like watching unfamiliar scenery float by in parallax while skirting past 18-wheelers in a downpour. In all seriousness, it's nice to witness different topography, different natural wonders, different roadkill and take in the subtle differences of a McDonald's cheeseburger that was constructed in backwoods America versus that of the big city. In case you were wondering, it tastes like it has better family values ... and a dash more possum.  But the real point of taking a vacation is to come back re-energized which, if you look at the music selection in this episode, you can clearly see that I have (unless you don't know any of these songs in which case you'll have to take my word for it and then listen for yourself!) This set is positively high energy through and through with a delicate balance of 80s and 90s; major and minor keys; some meat and in one or two cases a lot of cheese (I'm looking at you, Nick Straker ... but don't think I haven't glanced more than once in your direction too, Phil Oakey). But I like cheese, which is why songs like Together in Electric Dreams and Leaving on a Midnight Plane surface in this podcast. And just so you know, Nick and Phil, I'm going to discuss you guys first to show there are no hard feelings. Nick Straker was originally the keyboardist for a band called New Musik. Formed in 1977, the band was initially called The End of the World and was conceived mainly as a casual jam session outfit for four London-based school mates: singer Tony Mansfield, bassist Tony Hibbert, drummer Phil Towner (who drummed on the Buggles MTV-launching track Video Killed the Radio Star) and Straker. The band was one of the first to blend electronic instruments with traditional ones, creating an irresistible pop sound with superb melodies and unrelenting hooks. Why they were never able to make bigger waves on the commercial scene still baffles many music critics and historians. Mansfield, however, went on to become a big-time producer working with early 80s bands like a-ha, Vicious Pink, B-52's and After the Fire among others. Straker departed New Musik before the release of their first single choosing to pursue a solo career. He scored several hits, including A Little Bit of Jazz, which reached #1 on the U.S. Hot Dance Club Play chart in 1981 and A Walk in the Park, which hit #20 on the UK Singles Chart in 1980. The track here is the excellent (and cheesy!) Razormaid! mix of Leaving on a Midnight Plane. It originally appeared on the A Walk in the Park album and peaked at #61 on the UK Singles Chart in 1980.  Together in Electric Dreams is an interesting case study in musical perception. Often associated with The Human League, the track is really a Giorgio Moroder creation with lead singer of THL, Phil Oakey, contributing vocals. It's no surprise that THL often gets most of the credit because they were still near the apex of their popularity in 1984 when the song was initially released. The track was written for the film Electric Dreams, the first full-length feature film by Steve Barron. Barron made his mark directing some pretty high-profile music videos during the early 80s, including THL's international smash hit Don't You Want Me. The funny thing is, he intended Electric Dreams as a way of capturing the massive success of Flashdance from the year before. Yes ... Flashdance! Because that film used music from Moroder, Barron decided to employ Moroder as the music director for his new film. He wanted something heart-stirring to run during the final credits and a classic 80s track was born. The song would surface on a collaborative album by Moroder and Oakey the following year. This extended version is taken from an album of THL rarities and remixes, which certainly won't help the perception that this song is not a THL original. The fact that I credited it as THL (since it was taken from a THL album) won't help either. But I'm going to do something about that Giorgio Moroder for the remainder of the write-up Giorgio Moroder. I just hope it will set the record straight Giorgio Moroder about where some of the credit should go.  I'm still planning to cover one or two more of the bands in this podcast. However, I thought I'd pass this on: it's information about the new Erasure album I hinted at in an eariler episode.
