Locked On Penguins - Daily Podcast On The Pittsburgh Penguins
The season reviews continue in this episode as Hunter gets to John Marino. There's already been a lot of John Marino talk during the offseason, but Hunter now fully fives into the numbers from him this year and also gives his take on what his eye test tells him about Marino. Will he ever get better offensively? Is there more than one way to unlock that part of his game? Hunter then looks at his defensive impacts from this season and why they were actually up from a season ago. Is it due to playing with Pettersson more than Matheson? Just how good is that pairing together? Finally, Hunter looks at what the Penguins should do with Marino during the offseason. What could they get back in a trade for him? Should he be used as trade bait? Would it be the right call to bring him back? After that, Hunter does a small segment on Jack Johnson after Josh Yohe wrote an article about him for The Athletic on Thursday. He dives into the article and looks at new info that came out about his signing and why it makes GMJR look even worse. He also complains about how so many people in the fanbase were wrongly accused of not being fair to the player after he was signed while also knowing that he's likely a great human. Finally, Hunter ends the show with a potential bottom 6 UFA target that could be a real possibility this summer.Support Us By Supporting Our Sponsors!Built BarBuilt Bar is a protein bar that tastes like a candy bar. 2 massive points by the Penguins last night and Hunter is here to tell all of you why it was their finest performance of the season. Just how great were they in their own defensive zone at 5V5? Even the penalty kill got to go five-for-five in this game and set the tone right out of the gate. He also talks about Tristan Jarry's continued excellence and how he's turned his game completely around. Was this Evgeni Malkin's best game yet too? What about Kasperi Kapanen, and what's his ideal place in this lineup? He also then provides injury updates, and touches on GMJR's weird quote on a podcast before doing the listener takeaways!Support Us By Supporting Our Sponsors!BetOnline AGThere is only 1 place that has you covered and 1 place we trust. In the final episode in the month of September, Hunter brought on Danny (ShireyIrving) from Penguins Twitter, who writes for The PensBlog, and they discuss everything about the offseason so far. What were Danny's thoughts on the Hornqvist deal? Has he changed some of those thoughts as it's been about a week since the trade happened? Where does he see Colton Sceviour fitting into the lineup? The two also discuss if the third pairing would be good enough if Chad Ruhwedel would be playing next to Mike Matheson, plus what does GMJR need to do to have this offseason be considered a success to Danny? With the day after the Patric Hornqvist trade, Hunter touches on more of Mike Matheson and what changes he needs to make to his game so that he can be successful during his tenure in Pittsburgh. Are there too many turnovers in his game? What does he need to do in the defensive zone better? Hunter answers those after looking at some of his film through some videos on Twitter, plus is Matheson taking Jack Johnson's spot? Jim Rutherford today said Matheson would be on the third pairing if there was a game which means Johnson would be competing with Chad Ruhwedel so what's the Penguins next move there? Also, Hunter touches on how it's good that GMJR won't be too active in free agency and finishes the episode with some talk about the Stanley Cup Final. Learn more about your ad choices. Another week means more episodes of Locked On Penguins and Hunter is back to discuss the latest report that Jim Rutherford is looking for a new assistant general manager. Would Jason Botterill be a good fit back in Pittsburgh? Hunter ponders that as it was mentioned in Josh Yohe's latest article for The Athletic as the Penguins gave lost a number of assistant GM's over the years. Hunter also dives into some more GMJR comments as he wants to dip into free agency and why Penguins fans should be hiding their wife and kids as GMJR has never been good with free agency. Finally, Hunter touches on the Conference Final matchups, plus a small rant on the GM of the year award winner being announced!Support Us By Supporting Our Sponsors! Rock AutoAmazing selection. Seth Rorabaugh of TribLive Sports breaks down all the action from GMJR's transactions on Deadline Day. How will the lines sort out? And just how good did everyone else in the Metro get?
Seth Rorabaugh has a verdict on all of GMJR's activity from yesterday, Billy Gardell's favorite sauces, Steely is the subject of a new lawsuit, and Klaus Meine has his kidney stones removed so he can keep rocking.
Today is Deadline Day, which has become an annual holiday for Pens fans under the GMJR regime. Acquiring Jason Zucker from the Wild a few weeks ago was by far the big-ticket transaction for this year, but that doesn't mean all we by quiet on the Rutherford front this afternoon. Jesse Marshall from The Athletic has a few potential trade candidates that may surprise Pens Nation.
We were reminded of some of Evil Knievel's most daring stunts, including that time he jumped the Snake River Canyon, Jesse Marshall of The Athletic recaps a rough weekend for the Penguins and what GMJR might have in store for Deadline Day.
The Pens find themselves in first place despite an onslaught of injuries and playing alongside some of the best teams in the NHL, but that hasn't stopped them. In fact, have the injuries actually benefited their PowerPlay effort? And as the deadline slowly looms, who else might GMJR have his sights set on, even after acquiring his main piece in Jason Zucker (who is fitting in nicely).
Longer Season and more teams in the playoffs. This is about money. At least the Steelers will probably always be in the playoffs. GMJR on the hunt again.
On this week's Soft Dump, Joe Bartnick of Puckoff Podcast recaps the Jason Zucker trade and what else to expect from GMJR in the coming weeks leading up to the official Trade Deadline. And in spirit of John Marino, the Top 5 Broken Jaws in Penguins History.
Alex Galchenyuk gone and Zucker is now a Pen! (Crowl man would like you to know it's pronounced Zucker like hooker, not F*****) Prospects be damned...the future is now.
GMJR is showing never hesitates around the NHL Trade Deadline and this year is no exception, Seth Rorabaugh and Dan Potash detail the newest Penguin - winger Jason Zucker. Be sure to register for the 2020 Pittsburgh Polar Plunge happening on Saturday, February 29th! Chief Scott Shubert, Chief Matthew Porter, Carrie Jaumann and Special Olympian Chris Jagielski stop by to answer all the questions you might have about this year's event. Also, Klaus Meine calls again.
Steelers have backups that can get you thru a few games without Ben but not much more than that. With Guentzel off the ice, the Pens might have a hard time winning the cup.
If the Pirates are rebuilding, they need to look for players with high upside. Or trash cans. Petterson signs a deal, Crowley doesn't want Coronavirus or be in an earthquake and Patty M puts Ketchup on his steak cause he's a.....
Final hour of the show starts with Matt Williamson hopping on the program to give his takes on the playoff football we are about to see this coming weekend. Hottest take of the day, other crap, and the three stars of the show.
Jeremy Fowler breaks down the recent coaching hires around the NFL and whether he believes the Rooney Rule is being properly utilized or not, Mark Madden continues to make waves on Twitter and explains how GMJR has regenerated the Penguins speed. Also, Mr. Wednesday Jeff Konkle and much more.

Kris Letang is either public enemy number one or the greatest gift to hockey ever when it comes to Penguins twitter. Crowley tells you why there can be a little column A and column B there, but one thing is for sure, he has got to start playing the way the rest of the team has been all year long. Seth Rorabaugh then hops on the program to share with us his piece about GMJR and give some thoughts on Letang and the egg the team laid last night against Florida. We then close the hour with as always the great unsponsored football segment filled with knowledge and fun brought to you by to be determined.

He then calls for all of you going to the game tonight to please deliver your GMJR bobble heads to us cause we deserve them. Brian Batko swoops in to talk some Steelers next, hashing over Tomlin's comments today and the abysmal offense of the Steelers. It's then time for the great unsponsored football segment filled with knowledge and fun brought to you by to be determined.
Final hour of the show starts with the man himself, Josh Yohe and his entourage of gorgeous women join us LIVE at Bufords Terrace on Fifth to preview the opener against the Sabres. It's then time for the great unsponsored football segment filled with knowledge and fun brought to you by to be determined.
You've found The Crowley Show and forgive us for the distractions in this hour, but we just love our freakin country man. The ol' playboy GMJR has decided to trade in his roster for a younger model. Crowley talks about the youth injection on this Penguins roster and tells you how getting young, hungry, guys helps Crosby age gracefully. He then gets to how all you snowflaks tend to hold grudges in the weirdest places. Yes Jack Johnson is hot ass, and yes it was a bad move by GMJR, but that doesn't mean you have to judge the HALL OF FAME GM's tenure here based on one bad move. We then get completely distracted by our Women's soccer team as we enter in to stoppage time and SPOILER ALERT, Those Brits can SUCK IT!
Jesse Marshall of The Athletic breaks down the Phil Kessel trade and explores the theory that GMJR actually tried to trade him many times at Kessel's own request. Regardless, perhaps it was time for the lovable marriage to split, despite some fans' bitter reaction to the news of their sweet Phil being sent across the country. Alex Galchenyuk is an intriguing return, but what about the finer details of the deal? And how will it impact the Penguins activity in free agency? Jesse has all the answers.
Jesse Marshall of The Athletic takes us behind the scenes of the Phil Kessel trade and how he thinks it all went down, but will ever know for sure? If history is any indication, Phil tends to wear out his welcome and a mutual split ensues. Billy Bob Thornton's band The Boxmasters will be at Jergel's on Wednesday, he talked to Randy about all things music. And we recap our monstrous weekend of comedy all around tahn. Also, Jimmy Adler and Joe Grushecky perform in the Coffeehouse
You've found The Crowley Show and sports things were happening over the weekend, but non hitting closer to home then our sweet prince Phil Kessel being traded to the Coyotes. Incredibly sad day for Pittsburgh so Crowley opens up by reminsicing about all the good that Phil Kessel did in his four year tenure as a Penguin. Why can't I stop crying? Despite having his hands tied, GMJR actually got some nice value in return for Phat Phil. Craig Morgan of the Athletic Arizona hops on the show to break down the two new Penguins that were sent over in the deal. In the wake of the trade and the signing of a free agent forward today, Crowley starts to see the Penguins roster shaping up and breaks down what the lines should be if they were dropping the puck tomorrow.
Final hour of the show and we had on Mark Kaboly of The Athletic, Scott Burnside of The Athletic, and now we welcome on Josh Yohe of.....that's right you guessed it The Athletic! HAT TRICK BITCH. Josh gives a local flavor to what he's hearing out of the Penguins lately in regards to the trade market. He also let's us know a little nugget about GMJR and his activity of late in the trade market. Crowley then gets into Josh Bell and his campaign to start at first for the NL this year. It's basically the only thing Pirates fans have left to root for. Hottest take of the day, other crap, and the three stars of the show.
It's a regular old Athletic party up in here on the Crowley Show today. We start hour two by having Sean Gentille of said Athletic join us to talk about GMJR's track record in his Pittsburgh career as Crowley and he go back and forth on the HOFer. Crowley then breaks out another failed list, but this time it's different then last hours because this list is the biggest flops in GMJRs Penguin career. So it's like the last list of good moves he's made, but bad. It's then time for the great unsponsored football segment filled with knowledge and fun brought to you by to be determined.
You've found The Crowley Show and we start today by Crowley addressing the Colin Kaeper...er excuse me force of habit. The Megan Rapinoe story that is sweeping the nation today after a certain someone who shall remain nameless in this podcast description because I stick to sports decided to pour gasoline on the fire via twitter today. Crowley gives his empassioned takes about the situation. He sticks his toe in the Pirates water too as he discusses Cole's outing against his former team last night. Rob Rossi then hops on the program to share some thoughts about GMJR getting the call to the HHOF. Crowley then tries to deliver his list of the ten best moves made by GMJR. Buckle up for this one folks.
Second hour of the program starts with a litttleeeeeeeee itty bitty bit of Pirates talk. Hey they have the best bench in all of baseball, isn't that neat?!? However the majority of the segment circles around Evgeni Malkin and how he can bounce back next year, something the Penguins sorely need. Brian Metzer then joins us to give us his thoughts on Brooks Orpik, including one time where Orpik yelled at him, before he gets into the offseason and GMJR's induction. It's then time for the great unsponsored football segment filled with knowledge and fun brought to you by to be determined, where we examine some professors ranking of NFL fanbases.
You've found The Crowley Show and I basically should've just named this entire hour the Nostalgia hour. We start with the news that GMJR is now an HHOF'er as we was voted in today. Crowley looks back on the resume of Rutherford even beyond the Penguins triumphs and really puts into perspective just how good he's been in his career. Long time Penguin Brooks Orpik has decided that he was hanging up the skates today. We continue to drive down memory lane as we spend some time on Brooks' time as a Penguin, including Crowley going as far as saying he was one of the best Penguin defenseman of all time. Travis Yost of TSN then hops on the program to talk NHL free agency with the Crowl man.
Jesse Marshall of The Athletic recaps the Pens action this past weekend at the 2019 NHL Draft in Vancouver and whether or not GMJR will deal some big names in the coming weeks, or if he even SHOULD. Rob Biertempfel (also of The Athletic) recaps a wild weekend at PNC Park and when the Pirates can realistically expect Jameson Taillon to rejoin the rotation.
You've found the Crowley Show and Crowley starts today's show by begging, nay, pleading GMJR to make a trade, to start the rumor mill up again, to do ANYTHING. He's got trade blue balls after the Maata foreplay and he needs something juicy to happen. He also tells you why this is his favorite time of the year in hockey what with all the moving and the shaking and what not. Jesse Marshall of The Athletic then takes some time to join us on the program. Crowley and he discuss the size of packages....trade packages and get into Jesse's breakdown of the 2019 NHL draft coming up tomorrow. Crowley then gets to a player that he has his eye on and what he would be willing to give up to obtain said player. It's Tyson Berry, the player he wants is Tyson Berry. HOWEVER. I'm not going to tell you who he would trade away for Berry MWAHAHAHAHAHAHAH.
Final hour of the show gets started with the Crowl man spitting some more fire Penguins takes out at you. But let's not bury the lead here. Crowley pooped his pants during his TEN MINUTE ride to work today. He tells us his tale and you will be shocked where he disposed of the poopy underwear. He then gets into Kessel, no not about trading him, about how he needs to be shooting more pucks on net next year, IF he's going to be coming back. He also laments that he still has faith in GMJR and it's ridiculous not too, he's certainly made some mistakes, but a couple bad trades don't cancel out back to back cups. Hottest take of the day, other crap, and three stars of the show.
Second hour of the show starts with Crowley taking a look at something GMJR said in his media rounds today. Stop me if you've heard this one before Pittsburgh, LOCKER ROOM PROBLEMS. Crowley tells you what he things about these problems, and puts some blame on a players plate that may just surprise you. Then in a special special treat to the show, we are pleased to be a stop on GMJR's media rounds for the day. The big boss joins us for a few minutes and Crowley picks his brain about moving Maata, what motivated it, the player in return, and if they were thinking about trading the first round pick this year. We then talk about our USA woman who are beating some serious ass over in France in the World Cup before it's time for the great unsponsored football segment filled with knowledge and fun brought to you by to be determined.
Second hour of the show gets started with Crowley asking, nay, pleading the Penguins to not model their offseason rebuild off of the Cup teams rosters. We want speed and skill here GMJR, and our history shows it works. Rob Rossi of the Athletic then hops on the line to talk about the Cup some but mainly focus on how he believes Kessel will still be on the move. He and Crowley also dive into what they would do when building next years roster. It's then time for the great unsponsored football segment filled with knowledge and fun brought to you by to be determined.
You've found The Crowley Show and if you loveeee rumors, drama, and Phil Kessel talk, buddy have you found the right show. Crowley gets started by taking his first stabs at the Josh Yohe report that Phil has forced GMJR's hand and that Kessel will be back next year. He speculates whether this is smoke and mirrors from the GM, and then tries to figure out how this team rebuilds for next year if they don't move Phat Phil. We check in on Team USA womens soccer as they started their 2019 World Cup campaign, and then Crowley gets into Joe Musgrove being tossed from last nights Pirate game. Freakin ump show.
Crowley starts the second hour off by giving us a glimpse at what he was like as a little league umpire back in the day. We continue to tackle the ump show during last nights Pirate game and we hear from Joe Musgrove on the matter. We then get back into Phil Kessel mode as we welcome the man who broke the story himself on the show, Josh Yohe. Yohe and Crowl man chop up what Yohe reported and go back and forth on searching for meaning behind what GMJR said. It's then time for the great unsponsored football segment filled with knowledge and fun brought to you by to be determined, where we read a quote from Steelers special teams coach Danny Smith and it's glorious.
PFT Commenter of Barstool Sports lays out a Five points plan for the Pens to get back on track, Art Rooney II previews the Steelers schedule, Roy Wood Jr doesn't understand how people in Game of Thrones bathe, and Stan Savran senses a rift between GMJR and Mike Sullivan is what derailed the Pens.
The Ol' 29er stops in to recap last nights huge victory over the Caps, sing GMJR's praises for acquiring the right pieces at the right time yet again, and ensure you that Sid/Geno and Ovi still hate each other despite last night's milestone
