On this episode of Talking Buffalo, Patrick Moran is joined by Chris Ostrander (Two in the Box) to discuss how much more the Buffalo Bills can still add to their defensive line given their unique situation as well as some actual reasons for optimism for the Buffalo Sabres.Brandon Beane and his Bills find themselves in a bit of a bind. New additions Michael Hoehct and Larry Ogunjobi are both suspended for the first six games but when they return for Week seven, if the unit stays healthy they could find themselves as part of at least nine defensive lineman already on the active roster. Of course, that's before next month's NFL draft, where Beane's almost certain to add more talent via rookie picks. The guys discuss how much may end up being too much and if there's going to be two rookies as high picks on the roster, who can end up being the odd man out, again muddled up by the suspension of two guys who'll miss a third of the season.Sticking with the Bills the guys also discuss how they're feeling about a month out from the draft in terms of what Beane may (or may not) have up his sleeve. Do Patrick or Chris sense a big Beane move coming? They also spend a few talking about the offense including who's more important to their 2025 success— Dalton Kincaid or Keon Coleman.Turning over to the Sabres, they continue to be bottom feeders in the NHL but for today at least, the guys are discussing some of the reasons for optimism beyond Tage Thompson and Rasmus Dahlin. Chris talks about what he's seen and liked from players such as JJ Peterka, Ryan McLeod, Jason Zucker and Alex Tuch. That and plenty more!Be sure to follow Chris on X at @2ITB_Buffalo and check out the Two in the Box blog in addition to the Instigator Podcast.Major props to Talking Buffalo sponsor, Sonny Red's at 1841 Abbott Road in Lackawanna, just minutes from Highmark Stadium. On this episode of Talking Buffalo, Patrick Moran is joined by Chris Ostrander (Two in the Box) to discuss the respective general managers of the Buffalo Bills and Sabres, Brandon Beane and Kevyn Adams finding themselves with the pressure cranked up to get things done in the coming weeks for varying reasons. It doesn't take a genius general manager or any sort of football guy to watch the Super Bowl and realize the true formula for success against Patrick Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs is to create pressure with a four man rush with a dominant defensive line. Sure, the Bills have been within a field goal of the Chiefs in the past two playoffs but have fallen short for a handful of reasons, none so more than their inability to get defensive stops and pressure on Mahomes. The guys talk about several options out there in the coming weeks for Beane and the Bills and the intense pressure he's probably feeling to take a big swing at edge and/or interior defensive line, whether it's via trade or prominent free agent(s). As for the Sabres, they're cellar dwelling 54 games into the season as the league shuts down for two weeks for the 4 Nations Face Off. Chris has several thoughts on what Adams can and should do during this time to try and make a big move to help his team, assuming of course he remains on as general manager. If he does the NHL trade deadline is March 7th and you have to assume he'll do at least something. Chris discusses several possibilities in addition to what could happen with pending unrestricted free agents like Jason Zucker and Jordan Greenway as well as a handful of restricted free agents pending, including Ryan McLeod, JJ Peterka and Bowen Bryam. Be sure to follow Chris on X at @2ITB_Buffalo and check out the Two in the Box blog in addition to the Instigator Podcast. On this episode of Talking Buffalo, Patrick Moran is joined by longtime Buffalo News reporter and columnist Mike Harrington for an extensive Buffalo Sabres training camp preview. Training camp always seems to come quietly because the Buffalo Bills are a few games into their season, but camp for the Sabres this time around is the start of what will be a critical season as the hockey club tries to end it's NHL all-time record playoff drought at 13 years. Mike has plenty of thoughts on if general manager Kevyn Adams' job hangs in the balance of making the postseason, painting a potential picture where the Sabres could miss and he still kept his job. As for camp, there doesn't appear to be a lot of roster spots that aren't already locked in but that doesn't mean it will lack for storylines. Mike has takes on if he thinks Jason Zucker or Zach Benson will get first crack to skate with Dylan Cozens and Jack Quinn, is Jiri Kulich a legitimate candidate to crack the roster, how the bottom six is taking shape including newly re-signed Peyton Krebs, which makes Mike wonder if Krebs could become part of a trade. They also spend time talking about the goaltenders, if last season was the real version of UPL and how the No. 2 spot may play out between Devon Levi and James Reimer. That plus what Mike anticipates being different at camp now that Lindy Ruff is running things instead of Don Granato, what Buffalo needs to do to make the arena feel alive for home games again, the chances he thinks Buffalo makes the playoffs and tons more. Follow Mike Harrington on Twitter @ByMHarrington and of course support local journalism, which needs your support now more than ever by subscribing to The Buffalo News. ♦♦♦♦♦ Follow Patrick Moran/Talking Buffalo Podcast Substack: Patrick Moran's Substack Twitter: @PatrickMoranTB Facebook: Talking Buffalo Podcast YouTube: Talking Buffalo Podcast YouTube Channel Learn more about your ad choices.
