Friday afternoon means a fresh episode of Oilersnation Radio is ready to be enjoyed. On today's podcast, the fellas discussed Edmonton's series win over Vegas, what to expect from the Western Conference Final, and much more. The boys started the Friday episode of ONR with a delicious debate about who everyone would prefer to face in the Western Conference Final if they could wave a magic wand and make it happen. Whether you think Edmonton has a better chance against Winnipeg or Dallas, there are angles you could run with for why the Oilers matchup against either team, but thinking about the next opponent was a fun debate. Looking back at the week that was, we walked through the Oilers' performance, including their back-to-back shutouts against the Golden Knights, and how our side was able to strengthen as the series progressed. What stuck throughout the entire series, though, was Edmonton's ability to get goals at key moments from depth players at times when it mattered most. A perfect example was how Kasperi Kapanen sat out the first nine games of the playoffs before returning and making an immediate impact. Finally, we wrapped up the Friday episode of ONR with another round of Ask the Idiots, betting talk for our friends at bet365, and Hot and Cold Performers to look back on the week. It's incredible how much things can change after those first two losses to L.A., isn't it? Especially when you remember that the Oilers were down 2-0 in the series at this same point only a week ago. Life comes at you fast, doesn't it? Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.

It's the Thursday after the boys dusted off the Vegas Golden Knights, which means a fresh episode of Better Lait Than Never is ready to recap yet another Edmonton Oilers series win while also looking back at the week that was. On today's podcast, I recapped last night's Game 5 win, how the Oilers' depth beat the Golden Knights, Kasperi Kapanen's OT winner, and much more.Even though I usually start the podcast with some kind of personal life updates about TV shows, music, or whatever else has been going on, all I wanted to do today was talk about the Oilers. With that in mind, I skipped the usual small talk and dove right into my takes about the boys punting the Golden Knights out of the playoffs in only five games. When I last recorded BLTN, the Oilers had just won Game 1 and had a chance to steal a second game on the road, taking command of the series. Just over a week later, our boys not only got that first job done, but they ended up winning three of the next four. Finally, I wrapped up this week's episode of BLTN with a guest Righteous Sack Beating before wrapping up the podcast with a massive round of voicemails. The voicemail was very busy this week, and the messages were all over the map. As always, finishing up the show with your opinions is my favourite part of the whole thing and something I always look forward to most. Another hearty thank you to everyone who contributed to this week's episode because having you in the mix makes the show so much better.

A clear lack of effort has the Leafs down 3-2 to the defending champions. Is this it for Toronto and what does this mean for the franchise? On the flip side, the Edmonton Oilers have eliminated the Vegas Golden Knights with a 1-0 win in Overtime in Game 5. Kasperi Kapanen is the hero for Edmonton as they advance to the Western Conference Finals. We then look to tonights games as both the Winnipeg Jets and Washington Capitals find themselves in desperation mode as they are both down 3-1 in their series. Will they be eliminated tonight or live to force a Game 6?Away from the Stanley Cup Playoffs, Frank and Tyler break down the upcoming offseason for the Chicago Blackhawks. Tuesday afternoon means a fresh episode of Oilersnation Radio has been recorded and edited and is set to massage your ear feelings. On the Tuesday edition of the podcast, the guys discussed the Edmonton Oilers' stranglehold on the Golden Knights, Stuart Skinner's shutout, Kris Knoblauch's line combination changes, and more. The guys kicked off the Tuesday episode of Oilersnation Radio with a delicious debate about the Oilers' goaltending, and whether we would go back to Calvin Pickard when he gets healthy again or if Stuart Skinner's shutout is enough to give No. 74 another chance at a run. While there's no doubt that Calvin Pickard was fantastic in the six games he played, you can't discount how solid Skinner was in Game 4. But the question is whether one game was enough to turn the crease back over to Stuart Skinner.Looking back at Game 4, we started the recap with a conversation about Evander Kane. The player has been exceptional since returning from injury, and being able to raise his level despite being out for 10 months is causing havoc for the Golden Knights. We also discussed Kris Knoblauch's lineup changes landing perfectly, as both Kasperi Kapanen and Troy Stecher made immediate impacts. Having both of those guys play as well as they did led to another secondary debate about whether they've done enough to stick in the lineup for Game 5. Finally, the fellas wrapped up the Tuesday episode of ONR with a run of betting talk for our friends at bet365, keys to close out the series, and offered a few reasons why everyone should believe the Oilers can get the job done at T-Mobile in Game 5. As you'll hear, the boys feel bullish about the Oilers' chances of getting the job done, but that'll only happen if they can bring the same effort that saw them close out their first-round matchup against Los Angeles. The Oilers' schedule is so confusing, Costco dogs, and trade rumours

Better Lait Than Never

Play Episode Listen Later Nov 28, 2024 72:20

For whatever reason, the Edmonton Oilers' schedule is so weird this season. As a result, we find ourselves in a mini bye week that isn't technically a bye week but is indeed boring us all like one. On the bright side, the lack of games meant more time for shenanigans on this week's episode of Better Lait Than Never.I started this week's podcast by discussing my excitement for this week's #NationVacation. Heading to another city to watch the Oilers play is one of my favourite things to do, and that excitement builds even further when we're going to a place I've never been before. I then changed gears a bit to talk about seeing The Book of Mormon on Friday night at the Jubilee and how it was one of the funniest nights I've had in a long time. If you've never seen that play and are a fan of South Park, you've gotta find a way to see it at least one time.Turning the podcast back to the Oilers, there has been little to talk about since last week because of the bizarre schedule. With only two games on the schedule this week, the Oilers' news cycle has been quiet, but that doesn't mean there weren't plenty of things to talk about. Starting with Kasperi Kapanen getting claimed off waivers, the Oilers looked to add some depth to their right side. The timing of the move couldn't have been better, however, as the club is still without Zach Hyman and Viktor Arvidsson, but no one really knows why. Finally, I wrapped up this quick episode of BLTN with a Righteous Sack Beating about getting way too spicy about sports opinions before wrapping up the show with another round of voicemails. The inbox was quieter this week, but I still got a healthy chuckle out of your ideas and feedback. As always, I sat back and laughed while listening to everything that's been on your mind over the last seven days.

Is there anything better than a brand new episode of Better Lait Than Never to celebrate the midway point of the week? No, of course not. This week, I talked about Costco hot dog live, Connor McDavid's 1,000th point, Darnell Nurse being hurt, Kasperi Kapanen being claimed, and much more.I kicked off this week's episode of BLTN by recapping the response to my idea about how many days I could live on nothing but Costco hot dogs before getting bored. Unsurprisingly, people had so many takes on how this bit will go that I'm getting to a spot where I almost have to do it. From there, I spent a few minutes talking about how annoying and disappointing the Jake Paul vs. Mike Tyson fight was, and how the whole night was basically saved by the undercard.Turning the podcast back to the Oilers, I started the news with a conversation about Connor McDavid's 1,000th point, and how that milestone was so bananas that I need to keep talking about it. Even though we've gotten so used to McDavid's brilliance at this stage, I will never stop beating the drum of asking people to enjoy what they're watching because it's anything but normal. I also touched on the recent eastern Canadian road trip, the team claiming Kasperi Kapanen off waivers, Darnell Nurse's injury, and everything else that's going on with the team. Finally, I wrapped up this quick episode of BLTN with a Righteous Sack Beating about whining on BlueSky before wrapping up the show with another round of voicemails. The inbox was alive with beef this week, and those back-and-forths made me laugh and laugh.
