Yesterday was an exciting day for Oil Country with the news that Leon Draisaitl was staying. The Edmonton Oilers superstar forward signed a new 8-year extension with an average annual value of $14 million, making him the highest paid player in the NHL. It was the final deal the Oilers needed to get done this summer so now the focus turns to training camp. With the news Tyson Barrie was signing a professional tryout with the Calgary Flames, after being linked with a rumoured return back to Edmonton, who should the Oilers look to target for camp? There's been speculation on Justin Schultz and Kevin Shattenkirk but do they need to bring in a right handed defenceman or should they look somewhere else? You can leave your questions, comments and concerns in the Greta Bar YEG YouTube live chat throughout the program. Tyler Yaremchuk and Liam Horrobin strongly encourage you to interact with them and the other Nation Citizens in the YouTube live chat. Later in the show, Tyler and Liam will give Ryan Nugent-Hopkins his player grade for the regular season and playoffs. Nugent-Hopkins took a step back after a 100 point season but still managed to score close to 70 points in 80 games. In the post season, the Nuge was close to a point per game player, which was a big reason why Edmonton made the Stanley Cup Final.

Joey! Joey! Joey! Joey Daccord put in another solid performance and the Kraken kept rolling, winning their 8th consecutive game by beating the Washington Capitals 4-1 on Thursday night. That ties the longest winning streak in Kraken franchise history, and Seattle is now 10-0-2 in their past 12 games.Tye Kartye, Alex Wennberg, Justin Schultz, and Adam Larsson all scored for the Kraken. Seattle's depth has been a key factor through this win streak, providing balanced scoring and 4 lines of tough matchups for opponents. We're working our way through the off-season dead zone, but that didn't mean we didn't still have plenty to talk about on this week's episode of Oilersnation Radio.Kicking off the podcast, we got started with a hypothetical scenario that Tyler came up with that revolved around three magical hypothetical scenarios that involved goals, goaltending, and cap space at the deadline. After we all gave our answers and reasons why, we dove into the backlash that came out of Jay's take about Evan Bouchard being the same player as Justin Schultz. If you missed it, we posted a clip from last week's podcast where Jay compared Evan Bouchard to Justin Schultz. Needless to say, this was not a popular opinion amongst Oilers fans and we walked through both sides of the argument and tried to figure out if the blowback was fair. Changing gears, we walked through a whole bunch of random scenarios for the lineup, PTOs, and everything in between. Lastly, we wrapped up the Friday episode of Oilersnation Radio with another round of Ask the Idiots, and Hot and Cold performers. Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.
It's Thursday afternoon and the boys have nothing going on, which means there was plenty to talk about on the newest episode of the Real Life Podcast.Kicking off the podcast, the guys jumped in with a quick story about why today's episode of the podcast was recorded an hour early. What the guys didn't know before moving the pod was that the reason Jay wanted to start early was that he had a tarp run to do for Folkfest. That led Chalmers to talk about the Pigeon Lake Music Festival from last weekend and how it was a great time despite the way the booze was being dolled out. Somehow, talking about music led the boys to talk about varying scraps that kicked off online over the last week or so. Whether it was Jose Ramirez vs. Tim Anderson or the Alabama Riverboat Fight, it seems as though we're having a hard time getting together in groups here in 2023. Speaking of fights, the guys then dove into the argument that Jay kicked off on social media the other day when he compared Evan Bouchard to Justin Schultz. While some folks agreed with the assessment, there were plenty of others that were not impressed, and Jay tried to elaborate on his comments to add further context. Hosted on Acast.
