Hour 1 Tommy DeVito was officially named the starter for the Giants with Matt Barkley as his backup this week in Dallas. Boomer said he deserves the right to start with the work he has put in with the Giants. Gio wonders if Giants fans want to win or do they want to lose to get a better draft pick?  Which teams that will pick ahead of the Giants will also be drafting a quarterback? Jerry is here for his first update but first we somehow got into big spreads in Super Bowls. Brian Daboll talked about the challenge of playing the Cowboys with Tommy DeVito at QB. Daniel Jones talked about the tough year they're having. Peyton Manning and Luke Bryan took a shot at the Jets on the CMA's. Rob Saleh was asked if there was a mandate from above to play Zach Wilson. Troy Aikman said that Quinnen Williams said he's the ‘highest paid decoy'. Quinnen said he never had a conversation with Aikman. Victor Wembanyama made his MSG debut and it was a dud as the Knicks beat the Spurs. The Nets beat James Harden and the Clippers as Ian Eagle caught an errant pass by Harden. Scott Boras talked about Pete Alonso and how they're not in ‘contract hibernation'. In the final segment of the hour, Mekhi Becton wonders why Ryan Tannehill is going to help Will Levis, but not Malik Willis. Gio seems to think that Becton is thinking this is somehow racist.  Hour 2 What would the Giants need to give up to trade up to get Caleb Williams? Would need to deal picks and a great player. Maybe Saquon Barkley? Dexter Lawrence? Gio does not want any deal that involves dealing away Lawrence. The NY Post wrote an article about Al's take on Caleb Williams crying in the stands with his mom. We also talked about the way Andrew Perloff walks in the hallways. Jerry returns for an update but first former Coyotes player Alex Galchenyuk threatened to kill a police officer and his entire family after he got pulled over for drunk driving. Zach Wilson was asked what he would tell Jets fans to assure them he is the guy for the job. Dan Le Batard wants to debate Aaron Rodgers on his achilles injury. Scott Boras was at the Winter meetings with his terrible jokes. Adam Schein called Hal Steinbrenner a ‘dope' for running it back and bunting more. Victor Wembanyama made his MSG debut and it was nothing spectacular. In the final segment of the hour, Ron Washington has been hired to be the manager of the Angels. Gio remembers that time at the age of 57 that he was caught with cocaine and he said it was his first time.  Hour 3 Peter Schwartz joins us in the studio and he's going to the Jets/Dolphins game on Black Friday with the Winters brothers. Peter is also in the market for a new car and wants some help. We pitched him our idea for Boomer & Gio Live: Schwartzy the Snowman. Peter agrees to the bit. Peter also told us there was an ‘edict' that the sports updates should have more personalities. Jerry returns for an update and starts with Brian Daboll talking about Tommy DeVito getting the start against the Cowboys. Ryan Tannehill talked about being benched for Will Levis. Stephen A. Smith and Chris Russo scream over each other about Jim Harbaugh and Michigan. Paul Finebaum called Michigan ‘sleazy'. Mad Dog also argues with ‘alien Jerry'. In the final segment of the hour, Boomer is having text message issues with his iPhone.  Hour 4 Tonight's game has no buzz around it as it's the Panthers vs the Bears. The Giants are 16 ½ point underdogs in Dallas. Boomer thinks Tommy DeVito will make some good throws. Gio is wondering if there is any way possible for the Giants to win. Boomer doesn't see a way for the Giants to win. The Cowboys beat them 40-0 with all of their players in their own building. Boomer wouldn't bet on the game, but would take Dallas in a knockout pool. We went around to some of the upcoming NFL games this weekend. Gio thinks Jets/Raiders is going to be an intense game. The Raiders are throwing a rookie QB against the Jets defense. Jerry returns for his final update and starts with Tommy DeVito talking about getting the start in Dallas. Daniel Jones talked about the frustrating Giants season. Rob Saleh was asked if there's a mandate from above to play Zach Wilson. Troy Aikman said Quinnen Williams said he's the highest paid decoy in football. Gio can't believe Gregg Popovich is still being a jerk to the media. ‘He hates everything about being alive' according to Gio. Ian Eagle caught an errant pass from James Harden last night. David Stearns does not anticipate Pete Alonso being traded. The Moment of the Day involves Chris Russo talking to alien Jerry. In the final segment of the hour, Gio wonders when people are going to take down the political signs from the yards now that the election is over.

Vacations are momentarily done and we are back! Episode 85 is here and, when we were able to rein it in from our many tired tangents, you may have guessed that we've got more hot takes on the murder and execution of the PHF by the PWHPA. We also definitely don't make fun of Alex Galchenyuk because we want to keep our kidneys. We also talk about some recent transactions, more David Reinbacher shenanigans, some dude named Bergeron retired and Jake gets a little excited that the Red Wings traded for a goal scorer and grumbles about how Jeff Blashill ruined Filip Zadina's career. Finally, as usually happens, we talk about nobody wanting Vlad Tarasenko and then he immediately signs. Thanks NHL. More importantly, thanks for sticking around and thanks for listening.

Another week arrives as I deliver more heat to your speakers, earbuds or headphones when it comes to fast paced, action packed sports talk as the latest podcast is here! On deck: (3:08) The future, maybe even the present of tennis has arrived! 20 year old, Carlos Alcaraz defeats arguably the greatest men's player in the history of the sport, Novak Djokovic to win his first ever Wimbledon tournament. Is he not just the next big thing? Is he now? On the women's side, Marketa Vondrousova shocked the world as an unseeded player to win the whole thing, beating Ons Jabeur, who cannot get over the hump as she lost another opportunity to win a Grand Slam major. (17:00) Baseball makes its return from the All-Star Break as series resumed this past weekend. With the Los Angeles Angels slowly but surely slipping away from the American League wild card race, is it quite possible that Shohei Ohtani will be on the move before the trade deadline August 1st? I'll take a look at what went on in the MLB, including the red hot Orioles who not only pose a threat in the division, but possibly the entire league with their current eight game winning streak? Can they procure some big time starting pitching to take them to greater heights? The quest for batting .400 if your Marlins Luis Arraez. I'll also peek ahead at a couple of good series with the Dodgers-Orioles being the highlight of the early part of the week. And the 2024 schedule has been released, which is the earliest that I can ever recall. (36:18) We're a week away from NFL training camps opening up throughout the country. I can't say I'll be fully invested or excited (not to worry, I'll explain why) What I can say is that Tyreek Hill has some lofty goals for the upcoming season. He's shooting for a 2,000 yard season receiving. Is it achievable? Yes. But it'll be with an asterisk if he does it. (Again, I'll explain why) The Jets re-sign DT, Quinnen Williams as expectations for him and the team will be astronomical. The Giants have a big decision to make (and only have a few hours of me typing this) to get a deal done for RB Saquon Barkley by 4pm today. Will they sign the former #2 pick overall? (44:02) The NBA summer league concludes today with little to no fanfare, but on the ice, the Arizona Coyotes were in the news the past couple of days. They did the right thing by releasing a player they just signed to a one year deal (i.e. Alex Galchenyuk) as he was arrested in Scottsdale, AZ due to disorderly conduct and threatening a training officer after hitting a curb and sign while alleged being impaired. A disturbing and shocking story from a league that rarely produces incidents like this. (47:58) As I was about to do some housekeeping to close out another podcast, I remembered to make a mention of Lionel Messi as he was introduced to South Florida and America when he'll embark on a career in the MLS with Inter Miami this coming weekend. I'll delve into this more on Thursday's podcast, so please come on back for more on his impact to Miami, the MLS and the American sports landscape. MLB released its 2024 schedule, seven weeks earlier than the 2023 announcement. All 30 teams are slated to play on March 28, a week after the Los Angeles Dodgers and San Diego Padres meet in a two-game series at Seoul on March 20-21, MLB’s first regular-season games in South Korea. The Athletics host Cleveland in what could be their last opener in Oakland before an expected move to Las Vegas.  The Detroit Tigers open up at the Chicago White Sox.  Detroit then hosts Oakland the following week. WNBA – Women’s National Basketball Association Saturday 2023 WNBA All-Star Game, Michelob Ultra Arena, Las Vegas Team Stewart vs. Team Wilson, 8:30 p.m. NCAAFB – David Braun elevated to interim coach at Northwestern, AP source says David Braun has been elevated from defensive coordinator to interim coach at Northwestern for the upcoming season, replacing Pat Fitzgerald, who was fired this week due to a hazing scandal. That’s according to a person familiar with the decision. The person spoke to The Associated Press on condition of anonymity because Braun’s promotion to interim coach had not been announced. Braun was hired as the Wildcats’ defensive coordinator six months ago. He spent the previous four seasons in the same position at North Dakota State. Fitzgerald was fired Monday after a university investigation found allegations of hazing by 11 current or former players. He has maintained he was unaware of the hazing. NCAABSB – Northwestern fires baseball coach Jim Foster amid misconduct allegations Northwestern baseball coach Jim Foster has been fired amid allegations of misconduct, three days after football coach Pat Fitzgerald was dismissed because of a hazing scandal. Foster spent just one season as the Wildcats’ coach. The move was announced in a brief statement from athletic director Derrick Gragg. The Chicago Tribune and WSCR-AM reported this week that Foster led a toxic culture that prompted several assistant coaches to quit, and that his bullying and verbally abusive behavior prompted a human resources investigation by the university. Northwestern went 10-40 under Foster. Assistant Brian Anderson will take over as interim coach. NCAA – Legal headaches could just be starting at Northwestern, WVU with Fitzgerald The legal headaches could only be starting for ex-Northwestern football coach Pat Fitzgerald and West Virginia’s Bob Huggins. Fitzgerald was fired this week following hazing allegations in the program. He originally was suspended for two weeks before the school changed course. West Virginia considers Huggins to have resigned after a drunken-driving arrest last month. Huggins says he never formally stepped down and wants to keep coaching basketball. Industry experts are puzzled by what happened. Marty Greenberg is an attorney specializing in coaching contracts. He says if Fitzgerald and Huggins fight back, it would be in everyone’s best interests for a quick resolution. NCAAMBB – March Madness expansion discussed by NCAA committee but no deal imminent The NCAA Division I men’s basketball committee discussed possible expansion of March Madness at its meetings this week but said no moves were imminent to increase the field beyond the current 68 teams. Earlier this year, the NCAA Division I board of directors approved recommendations by the DI transformation committee that included allowing one quarter of teams in bigger sports to compete in championship events. That could mean expanding the fields in both men’s and women’s basketball up to 90 teams. There are many in the sport who believe the 68-team field and three weekends of play are ideal. In 2016, the NCAA signed an eight-year extension of its TV deal worth $8.8 billion and running through 2032. NBASL – NBA Summer League – Las Vegas Last Night Cleveland Cavaliers 87, Chicago Bulls 83 Cavaliers 87, Bulls 83 Craig Porter scored 22 points, Isaiah Mobley had a double-double and Cleveland remained unbeaten in NBA Summer League play with a victory over Chicago.  Porter added eight rebounds, six assists and three steals for the Cavaliers (4-0). Mobley finished with 18 points, 12 rebounds and four assists. Second-round pick Emoni Bates pitched in with 15 points and six boards. The Cavaliers trailed 80-73 with 5:50 left to play. Mobley hit a 3-pointer and added two free throws with 1:21 remaining to put Cleveland up 84-83. Porter added a three-point play with just under a minute to play to complete the scoring. Javon Freeman-Liberty had 18 points for the Bulls (2-2). Dalen Terry and second-round pick Julian Phillips scored 12 points apiece. Tonight Indiana Pacers vs. New York Knicks, 7:00 p.m.                (at Thomas and Mack Center, Las Vegas) Detroit Pistons vs. San Antonio Spurs, 9:00 p.m.            (at Thomas and Mack Center, Las Vegas) NHL – Coyotes cutting ties with Galchenyuk following arrest on multiple charges The Arizona Coyotes have placed newly signed free agent forward Alex Galchenyuk on unconditional waivers and plan to terminate his contract following his arrest on multiple charges over the weekend. A Scottsdale Police Department spokesperson said Thursday that Galchenyuk was arrested Sunday on charges of private property hit and run, disorderly conduct, failure to obey, resisting arrest and threatening or intimidating. The spokesperson said the hit and run was only property damage and no injuries occurred. Galchenyuk was booked into the Scottsdale city jail on misdemeanor charges and released the next day on his own recognizance. Tennis – Ons Jabeur is in a second consecutive Wimbledon final Ons Jabeur has defeated Aryna Sabalenka 6-7 (5), 6-4, 6-3 to reach the Wimbledon final for the second consecutive year. This will be the third title match for Jabeur in the past five Grand Slam tournaments. She is 0-2 so far after losing to Elena Rybakina at the All England Club last July and to Iga Swiatek at the U.S. Open last September. Sabalenka came into the match with a 17-1 record at majors in 2023. Jabeur’s opponent for the championship will be Marketa Vondrousova. Vondrousova became the first unseeded women’s finalist at Wimbledon since Billie Jean King in 1963 by eliminating Elina Svitolina 6-3, 6-3. Golf – PGA Tour and Saudi wealth fund drop poaching clause from agreement The PGA Tour deal with Saudi Arabia’s wealth fund is dropping a clause in their agreement over poaching. That’s after the Justice Department raised antitrust concerns. The agreement is for the PGA Tour, European tour and Public Investment Fund to become partners. A clause in the framework agreement was that neither side would try to poach players from other tours. The tour said Thursday that it believes the clause is lawful. But it says it has removed it because the clause isn’t needed as they work together in negotiating the final deal. No more players are likely to join LIV this season.           Golf – McIlroy says he’d retire if LIV Golf was the only place to play Rory McIlroy is laughing off a Saudi-backed idea that he and Tiger Woods own LIV Golf teams. McIlroy says he would retire if LIV Golf was the only place left on earth to play though he’d still compete at the majors. Those are part of his first comments since the Senate hearing on the PGA Tour’s agreement to partner with Saudi Arabia’s national wealth fund. One of the documents Congress obtained contained a series of dreamy proposals for compromise. McIlroy has not hidden his disdain for the rival circuit funded by Saudi Arabia.
