On this Heritage Sunday we focus on what we believe about the gospel. Pastor Carroll preaches about why the gospel is of "first importance". What is Heritage Sunday? We set aside one Sunday every quarter throughout the year for a special service we call Heritage Sunday. On this special Sunday we attempt to sing traditional songs that we feel are timeless and important songs in the canon of Christian music. We also take time out of the service to corporately recite foundational doctrinal beliefs. Finally, in the sermon portion of the service we focus our message on one of these foundational beliefs that make up the bedrock of our faith. With an ever changing world we like to use these opportunities to highlight for all generations, the unchanging and important truths of our faith.

The Charge to the Congregation was delivered on the occasion of the Installation of Rev. Barbara Prose as Associate Minister on Sunday, March 24, 2019, at All Souls Unitarian Church in Tulsa, Oklahoma, by Rev. Dr. Marlin Lavanhar, Senior Minister. DESCRIPTION All Souls Unitarian Church called its first minister, Rev. Dr. James Kennedy, after the charter for ‘All Souls Liberal Church’ was signed on March 28, 1921. It was thought at the time that the word Liberal would be more widely accepted than Unitarian. Ninety-eight years later, the historic and largest Unitarian church, will officially install The Reverend Barbara Prose as minister of the current congregation. Everyone is invited to celebrate 98 years of liberal ministers in Tulsa, including Alfred von Stilli, Robert Sonen, John B. Wolf, and others on Heritage Sunday in one special service for all at 10:30 a.m. CST. If you can’t join us in person, please join us via live stream at allsoulschurch.org/live. Rev. Barbara Prose was hired by All Souls Senior Minister Rev. Dr. Marlin Lavanhar in 2011. In 2014, she became the Executive Director of Ministry. Her leadership has included the development of 24/7 pastoral care for members, SpiritSong hospice choir, numerous justice initiatives including New Sanctuary Network Tulsa, and the continued development of the organization. All of our choirs will share their gifts of song during the service. Rev. Cathey Edwards, Senior Minister of Hope Unitarian Church, and Rabbi Marc Fitzerman, B’nai Emunah Synogogue, will join Rev. Lavanhar and Rev. Gerald Davis during the service and installation of Rev. Barbara Prose. Pastor and Evangelist Cylar share words of empowerment during our Heritage Sunday worship. God has ordained the family and the bond therein to help its members reach their full potential in God, not deter them from their goals. Though so many forces seek to separate us, it is God's will that we remain unified and strong, and, as Jesus said, "that all of them may be one, Father, just as you are in me and I am in you." Only TOGETHER will we reach our God-given destiny!
Dr. Merle Sterge, Professor of Historical Theology at Anderson University, joins us today to speak about our heritage, both as a Church of God congregation and as a Christian congregation. Why are we here. in this building on Sundays? Hear his explanation.
