Today on the 5: For the third film in our final week of "May-be It Won't Suck", Lando and I watched 1964's Fail-Safe. A cautionary tale about the involvement of computers in war as well as the inevitable result of human distrust, this movie is a remarkable triumph of intense storytelling across minimal scenes.
Today on the 5: The second film for our last week of "May-be It Won't Suck" was 1974's It's Alive. A movie Lando had never seen and I only remembered the beginning and end of, this could have been a gimmick movie with a lot of boring stretches. As it turned out, it's a deeply tense exploration of how a VERY problematic pregnancy can push people to the breaking point.
Today on the 5: For one of our "May-be It Won't Suck" movies this week, Lando and I watched 1978's The Medusa Touch. It had been a long time since Lando had last seen it, and I had never even heard of it so we were both curious how it would land. Not only was it a great movie, but it had some of the hardest hitting scenes we've witnessed it a while!

Today on the 5: As part of "May-be It Won't Suck" month, we watched a 1994 movie I just barely remember titled Dark Angel: The Ascent. Starting a Full Moon production is always a dice roll, but this movie rises above budgetary limitations by presenting a "Heaven & Hell" story that works very differently than you might expect.
Today on the 5: As part of our "May-be It Won't Suck" month, we watched a movie neither had seen in a good 30+ years, 1986's Eliminators. This is story of a group of various warriors coming together to battle a mad scientist, or at least that's what it's trying to be. While the movie has a few flaws, it also does a few things that are remarkably better than other movies of the era.
Today on the 5: As part of "May-be It Won't Suck" month, we watched a 1983 science fiction film titled Spacehunter: Adventures In The Forbidden Zone. It had been a long time since either of us had seen it, and we were both delighted to find it holds up as a fantastic piece of practical filmmaking!

AI is changing how we work, lead, and make decisions. For many leaders, that shift brings uncertainty. Will AI replace roles? What skills will still matter? And how should leaders respond? In this episode of The Leadership Habit Podcast, Jenn DeWall sits down with Sylvie di Giusto to explore what it means to stay “Forever Human” in an AI-driven world. Their conversation challenges fear-based thinking and offers a practical path forward. AI is not something to compete with. It is something to understand, adapt to, and use with intention. Meet Sylvie di Giusto, CSP, Hall of Fame Speaker Sylvie di Giusto is an international keynote speaker, author, and leadership consultant who helps organizations lead better, sell faster, and influence with intention. With decades of corporate experience and a unique 3D holographic speaking style, she brings forward-thinking insights on leadership presence, perception, and human behavior. Her expertise has been integrated into Crestcom's curriculum for years, helping leaders around the world strengthen communication, emotional intelligence, and decision-making. AI Isn't the First Disruption—and It Won't Be the Last One of the most important takeaways from this conversation is perspective. AI may feel new, but disruption is not. Every major technological advancement has created uncertainty, fear, and resistance before eventually becoming part of everyday life. As Sylvie explains, “Humans have a tendency to fear and panic first and see everything as a threat rather than an opportunity.” From the printing press to the internet, leaders have always faced moments where they had to choose between resisting change and adapting to it. The same is true today. AI is not going away. The question is not whether it will impact your role, but how you will respond to that impact. Sylvie makes this clear when she explains that the real risk lies in choosing not to adapt. Leaders who ignore AI may eventually find themselves replaced, not because AI is inherently better, but because they chose not to evolve alongside it. Don't Compete with AI. Complement It. A central theme of this episode is a mindset shift that every leader must embrace. Many professionals are trying to compete with AI by working faster, producing more, or relying heavily on automation. But that approach misses the point. Sylvie puts it simply, “The goal was never to beat the machine. It is to build with it.” AI will always outperform humans in speed, data processing, and memory. Trying to compete in those areas is not sustainable. The real opportunity lies in focusing on what AI cannot do. Leadership in the AI era is about combining strengths. AI handles efficiency. Leaders bring judgment, context, and human understanding. When used together, the result is far more powerful than either alone. Where AI Wins—and Where Leaders Still Matter AI's strengths are undeniable. It can analyze data at scale, generate content instantly, and automate repetitive tasks. But leadership has never been defined by those capabilities alone. Take speed as an example. AI can respond instantly, but speed is not always the right answer. Sylvie advises the listeners that “AI will always win the race… but only humans know when actually you have to slow down.” Leaders understand timing. They recognize when a situation requires pause, reflection, or a more thoughtful approach. That level of discernment cannot be automated. The same is true for data. AI can retrieve information quickly, but it does not understand meaning. Leaders interpret data through experience, emotion, and context. They connect information to real-world impact, making decisions that go beyond what the data alone can suggest. And when it comes to relationships, AI falls even shorter. It can mimic tone, but it cannot build trust. As AI-generated communication becomes more common, leaders face a new challenge: ensuring authenticity remains intact. Sylvie highlights this shift clearly: “There is this new level of mistrust… people are not sure anymore what comes from the machine and what comes from the humans.” Because of this, transparency and authenticity are no longer optional. They are essential. Why Soft Skills Are Making a Comeback For years, organizations prioritized efficiency, technical skills, and productivity. But AI is now outperforming humans in many of those areas, shifting the value back to human-centered capabilities. Sylvie emphasizes that, “there will be a big comeback for soft skills because those are the skills that AI cannot replicate.” Skills like emotional intelligence, communication, adaptability, and critical thinking are becoming more valuable, not less. Leaders who invest in these areas will be better equipped to navigate complexity, build trust, and guide teams through change. This is a major opportunity. While AI handles the mechanical aspects of work, leaders can focus on what drives performance at a deeper level—people. Creativity Still Belongs to Humans AI can generate ideas quickly, but those ideas are based on existing data. It recombines what already exists rather than creating something entirely new. As Sylvie explains, “AI just sources ideas that already exist… it really can't invent something that has never existed before.” This reinforces the importance of human creativity. Innovation still depends on original thinking, curiosity, and the ability to challenge assumptions. Leaders who rely solely on AI for ideas risk producing predictable results. Those who combine AI insights with human creativity can push beyond what already exists and create something truly new. Ethics, Accountability, and Leadership Responsibility Perhaps the most critical leadership responsibility in an AI-driven world is accountability. AI can generate recommendations, but it cannot take responsibility for outcomes. Sylvie illustrates this point, saying, “AI might look into the performance data… and say you have to fire that person. But you as a human… have the ability to question why.” Leaders must consider context, circumstances, and human factors that AI cannot fully understand. They must apply judgment, empathy, and ethical reasoning to every decision. Equally important is resisting the temptation to shift blame. “You cannot allow yourself… to point at AI and say, ‘It wasn't me.'” No matter how advanced the tool, accountability remains with the leader. How AI Is Changing Leadership Behavior AI is not just changing how work gets done. It is changing how people think, communicate, and behave. Sylvie points to several shifts leaders must recognize. Focus is decreasing as distractions increase. At the same time, people are becoming more selective with their attention. “Attention is the new currency—and it's becoming very expensive.” This means leaders must communicate more clearly and concisely than ever before. If a message is not immediately relevant, it will be ignored. Patience is also declining. People expect faster responses and quicker outcomes. Leaders must balance this urgency with thoughtful decision-making, ensuring that speed does not come at the cost of quality. At the same time, communication itself is changing. AI tools make it easier to produce content quickly, but that efficiency can come at the expense of authenticity. Leaders must ensure their voice remains present in what they share. The Risk Leaders Aren't Talking About One of the more overlooked risks of AI is how freely people share information with it. In many cases, individuals are more comfortable asking AI questions than speaking with a colleague or leader. Sylvie warns that this behavior has consequences, “Whatever you share with AI creates… a shadow profile about you.” Over time, this data contributes to a broader digital footprint that may influence how information is generated and shared. Leaders must be intentional about what they input into AI systems and encourage their teams to do the same. Key Takeaways AI is not replacing leadership. It is reshaping it. The leaders who succeed will be the ones who adapt, not resist. They will understand where AI adds value and where human skills must take the lead. They will invest in emotional intelligence, communication, and critical thinking. They will remain accountable for decisions. And they will focus on building trust in a world where authenticity is increasingly important. Or, as Sylvie summarizes it best, “Don't compete with AI. Focus on what you do in the moments that matter most as a human being.” Where to Find More from Sylvie di Giusto To learn more from Sylvie, visit sylviedigiusto.com, connect with her on LinkedIn, or explore her keynote presentations and books focused on leadership, perception, and influence. From meeting at the University of Texas to early days flipping houses and working corporate jobs, to moving to Nashville for a record deal and starting over more than once, their journey has been full of faith, risk, and resilience. Through it all they’ve raised two boys, navigated the highs and challenges of the music business, and watched George score two No. 1 hits at country radio with “Mind On You” and “Cowboy Songs.” Now the adventure continues with a brand new collaboration with Luke Bryan “It Won’t Be Long,” proving that trusting the season and keeping fun at the center has been their secret weapon all along.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
Our latest essay from our Untoxicated blog: “It Won’t Matter” I wish I could deliver a message to my younger self. Many messages, really, to many earlier versions of me. Like that the penis my college friends drew on my forehead with permanent marker when I passed out would not, in fact, impact the rest of my life. Or that leaving my sales-manager job in a steel company that was for sale upgrading to a steel company that later declared bankruptcy was not, actually, the stupidest move ever. Or even more recently, that the knee injury I suffered playing soccer last summer was not the end, and that I was not yet relegated to the chair workouts Instagram feels are age appropriate. Those tips would have been useful. But in mid-March 2026, I am thinking about the advice I would give a late 20-teens version of me about Saint Patrick's Day… If you are ready to focus on what matters, as the drinker or the partner of a drinker, please take our brief survey at UntoxicatedSurvey.org so we can share resources, including a free ebook.

Shownotes Just a week into America's war of choice on Iran, the costs already are spiraling out of control. The lives lost and broken are the most important cost. But there's a colossal price tag for waging war, and America's opening salvo has a number: $5 billion for the first week and a reported $50 billion that the Trump Administration is planning to seek from Congress. The American defense budget this year is the world's largest, at $1 trillion. As a point of comparison, it would have cost less than $30 billion to extend health care subsidies to Americans through 2026. Analysts have spent decades tallying the costs of America's forever wars: direct costs in equipment and personal and indirect costs in long term health care. Perhaps the most powerful long-term cost is in opportunities: when the United States pours its resources into warmaking, it starves resources to the spheres that create opportunity and well-being: health care, education, research and development. Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu dropped a bombshell in a recent interview when he declared he had told U.S. President Donald Trump that Israel no longer needed a long-term commitment from the U.S. for military aid, and that he planned to “taper off” the $3.8 billion Israel now receives to “zero” within ten years. On the Haaretz Podcast, Washington correspondent Ben Samuels and senior defense analyst Amos Harel discuss the implications of Netanyahu’s announcement and the circumstances behind it. Both say it is clear that Trump had signaled that aid would be significantly reduced, and that Netanyahu’s announcement was intended to avoid the appearance that the cuts were being forced on Israel. “Netanyahu did not have much choice. I think this is something that Trump expected him to do,” Harel said. “It was bound to happen, and it was better for Netanyahu to appear as if he's the one who initiated it.” Samuels noted that both Republicans and Democrats – for different reasons – were questioning the level of aid Israel receives, despite the fact that the majority of the billions in assistance are spent on weapons purchased from U.S. manufacturers. Looking ahead, Samuels discussed potential “cognitive dissonance” for pro-Israel lobbying organizations like the American Israel Public Affairs Committee as they grapple with a future in which substantial military aid will no longer be part of the equation of when it comes to U.S. support for the Jewish state. “Supporters of AIPAC have treated military aid as this sacrosanct thing - saying that if you dare question it, then you are not only in support of endangering Israeli lives, but it makes you borderline antisemitic,” Samuels said. “How are they now going to just turn around and flip the script and say: ‘You know what? You're right. We don't need U.S. military assistance to Israel.’” Read more: Top GOP Senator Urges Halt to U.S. Military Aid After Netanyahu Says Israel Aims to End Reliance Within Decade On Ending U.S. Military Aid to Israel, Netanyahu Is Trying to Spin His Failure as Success Today Marks the End of an Era for pro-Israel Democrats – and for AIPAC It Didn't End Well for Sparta, and It Won't for Israel Either See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

When it started raining in the mountains of Western North Carolina, Bobby and Alyssa Forest had an inkling that maybe this storm would be different than anything they had ever seen. They were right. Within days of the arrival of Hurricane Helene, their home and their church, Asheville First Nazarene, became a soul-saving and life-giving haven for thousands over the next three months. And that story continues. Episode 56 of Michael in the Middle explores how one couple found their way toward helping others even in the middle of their own need. It's a fascinating hour of love and care. As the Janet Pascal song from several years ago reminds us, "It Won't Rain Always."
After setting the stage by understanding producer Felton Jarvis's career leading up to his early collaborations with Elvis, we continue to investigate and interrogate the fan belief that he was singularly to blame for the "syrupy" overdubs that diminished the "pure" unfinished tracks. Helped along by a 1980 interview done between Felton and Jerry Flowers of RCA in which the producer talks about his career retrospectively, Justin and Bec trace Felton's journey as Elvis hires and hand-picks him to be his exclusive producer, taking Felton away from RCA and other artists so that Elvis can, as a largely autonomous artist whose only studio commitments during this decade are to send periodic deliverables to RCA, work at his own pace and create the kind of recordings that he truly wants. But was Felton truly to blame for the overindulgent strings and horns that were added to Elvis's music, or is there someone else that we've collectively overlooked? And has the narrative been all wrong and the way we even talk about "overdubs" been clouded by a widespread "rockist" misunderstanding of both Elvis and Felton, their respective jobs and tastes, and misunderstood expectations of the kind of music both fans & critics thought Elvis "should" be making? The duo examine Elvis's live performances in relation to his studio work, touch on a few more non-Elvis records produced by Felton, and even revisit the 1981 "Guitar Man" project Felton spearheaded before his early death to see if it provides clearer insight into the producer's preferences and tastes. For Song of the Week, Bec makes a promise that "It Won't Be Long," covering the recording cut from "Double Trouble," while Justin goes prospecting because he's pretty sure "There's Gold in the Mountains" still to be dug up from "Kissin' Cousins."
