Today, we're doing something a little different, and breaking from our regular production schedule to release a special live bonus episode. This episode is a recording of a live twitter space, where we wrapped up our Trailblazers of Octant series with an open discussion, community reflections, and ecosystem updates.Since it was recorded live, the audio quality might not be what you're used to from our usual episodes, and there were limited editing and production options. But you know what, that's part of the fun of a live conversation—it's raw, unfiltered, and community-driven.For this conversation, we were joined by folks from Octant, Climate Coordination Network, Protocol Guild, Greenpill Dev Guild, CryptoConexión, and friends from the community. In the community discussion we reflect on key themes and highlights from the Trailblazers of Octant podcast, some of the most exciting aspects of Octant's approach to Public Goods Funding, and what's next for Epoch 7 and Octant V2.--Full shownotes with links available at--https://www.cryptoaltruism.org/blog/crypto-altruists-bonus-live-episode-exploring-the-octant-ecosystem-community-space--Support us with a Fiat or Crypto contribution--Learn more at cryptoaltruism.org/supportus--DISCLAIMER--While we may discuss specific web3 projects or cryptocurrencies on this podcast, do not take any of this as investment advice and make sure to do your own research on potential investment opportunities, or any opportunity, before making an investment. The primary focus of this podcast episode revolves around the community Roundtables organized by the American Farmland Trust and the New York State Tug Hill Commission, aimed at advancing agrivoltaics in New York. These innovative discussions endeavor to optimize land use by integrating solar energy generation with agricultural practices, thereby addressing the pressing needs of the agricultural sector in an era of environmental challenges. We invite farmers, agricultural professionals, local government representatives, and community members to engage in these dialogues, which will critically examine the opportunities and challenges associated with the implementation of agrovoltaic projects. Furthermore, the insights gleaned from these Roundtables will be compiled and shared with pertinent governmental agencies, thereby influencing policy and support mechanisms. It is imperative that interested participants register promptly, as space is limited and the discussions promise to be both enriching and impactful. The discourse presented in this podcast segment elucidates the initiative undertaken by the American Farmland Trust in conjunction with the New York State Tug Hill Commission, which aims to facilitate a series of community roundtables centered on the subject of agrivoltaics within New York. Agrivoltaics, a progressive approach that marries agricultural practices with solar energy generation, represents a promising avenue for optimizing land use, an increasingly critical concern in the face of rising energy demands and environmental sustainability challenges. These roundtable discussions are designed to engage a diverse array of stakeholders, including farmers, agricultural professionals, local government representatives, and members of the community, thereby fostering a comprehensive dialogue regarding the multifaceted opportunities and challenges associated with the implementation of agrivoltaics in the region. The overarching objective of these community gatherings is to cultivate an environment conducive to robust discussions that will ultimately outline the specific needs and challenges faced by stakeholders as they navigate the complexities of advancing agrivoltaic projects. It is anticipated that the insights gleaned from these discussions will be meticulously compiled and subsequently conveyed to pivotal entities such as the Department of Energy and the United States Department of Agriculture, thereby ensuring that the findings contribute to broader policy considerations and support mechanisms for agrivoltaic initiatives. This engagement not only underscores the importance of community involvement in agricultural innovation but also highlights the necessity of informed decision-making processes that are reflective of the diverse perspectives within the community.Furthermore, the podcast segment emphasizes the importance of timely registration for these events, stressing that space is limited and attendance is crucial for those who wish to contribute meaningfully to the dialogues. This call to action serves as a reminder of the inherent value of participatory discussions in shaping the future of agricultural practices and energy generation in New York, fostering a collaborative spirit aimed at advancing sustainable practices in the face of modern challenges.Takeaways: The American Farmland Trust and Tug Hill Commission are facilitating community roundtables focused on agrivoltaics. These roundtables aim to foster extensive discussions regarding the integration of solar energy and agriculture. Pete Davis was a young undergraduate college student when he took a class from Professor Robert Putnam. By this time, Dr. Putnam was an academic celebrity, based largely on the huge success of his seminal work on social capital, Bowling Alone. In the time since, Pete has made advocating for more civic engagement the focus of his work and in addition to writing the book, Dedicated: The Case for Commitment in An Age of Infinite Browsing, he and his sister have produced a documentary feature film, provocatively titled, Join or Die. The film describes the social unraveling that has taken place in the US for the past 50 years, with an emphasis on the work of Robert Putnam, who is featured prominently. While this subject matter can be discouraging, Pete Davis is an optimist and he provides many helpful ideas about how we can pull ourselves out of this place. Pete is enthusiastic and engaging and he brought this energy to this Blue Sky episode, giving us plenty to think about, and many reasons to remain hopeful. On this edition of Parallax Views, Jerusalem-based attorney Daniel Seidemann, known for his participation in in numerous Track II talks on Jerusalem between Israelis and Palestinians, joins the show to discuss the plight faced currently by the Old City of Jerusalem's Armenian Christian community amidst the chaos Israel has found itself in since the October 7th Hamas attack and Israel's war in Gaza. It's a strange story of suspicious activities and subterfuge that, as Daniel notes, could be write out of a movie or a mystery crime-thriller novel. A shady real estate developer and other actors have brought about an existential crisis for those living in the Armenian Quarter. It's a complex tale that we'll unravel involving real estate, Jewish and Israeli-Arabs, the extremist settler movement, the nature of life in Jerusalem, and more. In addition, Daniel and I will talk about the two-state solution, why remains a two-stater, the need to end Israel's Occupation of Palestinian territories (and how the Occupation is harmful to Israel), the one-state reality, a meeting Seidemann had with John McCain in 2015, and much, much more.
