Guests: PCA Alumni Pateel Toranian (‘23), Isabelle Simpson (‘20), and Hunter Hall (‘20) What a blessing it was to hear from Pateel Toranian (Class of 2023, currently at the University of Texas - Austin), Isabelle Simpson (Class of 2020, currently at Texas Tech University), and Hunter Hall (Class of 2020, currently at Texas A&M University) - they shared some practical wisdom with our US students at chapel and I was able to catch them before they returned to college to have their share about the impact that PCA has and is making in their lives and spiritual journeys. All three of these students had parents who were involved in their spiritual development as well as the other “legs of the stool” - involvement in a good Bible-teaching church and the Christ-centered, Biblical worldview intensive aspects of Prestonwood Christian Academy. The Biblical worldview training that a student receives at PCA is not only foundational for success at PCA and in college, but also for a “successful and prosperous” life as defined by God's economy (see Joshua 1:8). All three of these students are continuing their spiritual maturity while in college - they are all plugged into a solid church and Christian community and continuing their own personal spiritual growth! When we talk about The Portrait of a PCA Graduate, the concepts that are important are a reverence for God, an eternal perspective, humility, a rigorous academic learning process, and high expectations and accountability. Each of these students embody those characteristics of a PCA Graduate! How much do you have to hate someone - statement from magician Penn Jillette following a situation where a man shared about the life-transforming power of Jesus Christ. The students also shared about the incredible and eternal impact of PCA's Minimester program - coming up again in March - be praying for our students who will be traveling across the globe to share the love of Jesus! Special shout out to Jared Wood for allowing us to use his music - check him out at JaredWoodMusic!

We had a fun and engaging conversation with PCA theatre teacher Pam Hurt and fine arts director Joel T. Rutherford about some (almost all) of the incredible theatre presentations that PCA has performed over the years. If you would like to WATCH this episode on YouTube, click here! About PCA's Theatre program: Prestonwood Christian Academy has an award-winning and nationally-recognized theatre program that strives to provide Middle and Upper School students with a creative and multidisciplinary art form. One of our objectives is to prepare serious theatre students for a future career in the theatre if that is their desire. Beyond that, by participating in theatre, students will gain preparation for whatever path they choose in life by creating good work habits, time management skills, poise and cooperative learning experiences. We believe that the arts are an epicenter of influence in our culture today and Christians need to be leading the way in creativity and excellence. This episode is fairly unique, because we're talking about a new film release and ethical investment stock picks in the same conversation, and that's because our interviewee has two careers – one in film, and one in investment. Mark Forstmann has written and produced a new film called Climate Changers, which follows Tim Flannery's search for leadership on climate change. In it, Tim travels the world meeting leaders past and present in the hope of finding answers to his questions about the future. It is currently being screened at selected film festivals, with a full release in September/October this year. Mark is an Independent Investment Analyst and is currently a member of our Ethical Advisers Funds Management (EAFM) Investment Committee, so we took the opportunity to discuss some current investment examples within our Mid-Cap Australian Share portfolio. Please note that this is general information only, and not specific investment advice. Mark has 28 years' experience in investment markets including equities, currencies and fixed interest. Mark has worked with ethical fund managers such as Hunter Hall, Future Super and Morphic Asset Management, and served on the Board of the Nature Conservation Trust of NSW. He holds a Bachelor of Science from Sydney University. In his second career, Mark Forstmann is a producer, director, and writer with experience ranging across drama and documentary. A graduate of Australian Film, TV & Radio School, his first feature as writer-director, MONKEY PUZZLE, won awards at several international film festivals, including the Best Environment Film at Shanghai International Film Festival.Mark refers to recent carbon dioxide emissions - refer to CO2 emissions - Our World in Data for a detailed reference. Finally, I'd like to explain a financial term that Mark refers to: EBIT (or EBITDA): this is an acronym for 'Earnings before interest and tax' (for EBIT) or the slightly more elaborate 'Earnings before interest, tax, depreciation and amortisation' (in the case of EBITDA). In short, it shows how much operating expenses are eating into a company's profits, and the higher the EBITDA margin, the less risky a company is considered financially. I hope you enjoy this discussion with Mark Forstmann. We wish to acknowledge the traditional custodians of the land we recorded on, the Wardandi Noongar people. We pay our respects to them and their culture; and to elders past, present and emerging. Fire fighter, soon to be father, master movie quoter. We're going to talk about Bobby' Weakley's transition...ummm...from mountain bike specialist to ironman finisher. And yes, we start off with WHY. Then the HOW. It wasn't an easy road to travel. Ridicule from his co-workers and mountain bike buddies. Learning to swim as an adult. Running on road when there's a perfectly good trail nearby. Tough stuff. But ultimately it culminated to a great performance at Ironman Chattanooga in 2019. Bobby gives a lot of insight into how he made the jump from a single sport athlete to a multisport monster. If you listen for no other reason it would be to see how many movie quotes Bobby and Coach Dale can throw into one episode. If you watch the Youtube version, we've got a running movie quote counter going. EON speak to Jack Lowenstein from Morphic Asset Management about their global Ethical Investment Listed Investment Company. Chad Slater & Jack Lowenstein have a rich history in ethical investment, having been at Hunter Hall during its glory days. Morphic Asset Management have a strong risk management focus which we talk about in depth. This discipline means the returns are achieved with significantly less volatility than if you invested in a broader index. The benefit of this is often hard to see day to day but are a significant benefit for long term investors. The fund is global focused, so is another opportunity to diversify from the Australian market. The investment criteria is discussed in detail but will exclude companies that add to global warming, which Jack views as the biggest issue of our time, gambling, alcohol and coal. This is a great episode for all trustees who want to learn how to invest better and are interested in global and ethical investment. Compound your wisdom!

Scream Addicts Podcast: Horror movies | Movie reviews | Horror
With a Twitter poll having helped us choose this week's film, the Addicts find themselves tackling a recent horror release - Karyn Kusama's 2016 chiller The Invitation. With its pressure cooker tension and bursts of shocking violence, The Invitation would seem an ideal choice for the gang to review... Unfortunately, the constant MST3K-style lampooning the movie received from the bulk of our crew made Jinx see red, leading to a post-movie talk that was less than comfortable. Nevertheless, your hosts manage to soldier on and chat about the film's merits, flaws, and the lead actor's astonishing resemblance to Tom Hardy. It's intense, it's creepy, it's punctuated by nerve-wracking stretches of dead silence...and the movie's pretty grim, too. So brace yourselves, brave listeners, as we invite you to do your very best to enjoy our newest ep. As always, be sure to subscribe to our show on iTunes, leave feedback, tell your friends, and give us a yell on Twitter!
