Smart shares her path to this work and how her extensive experience informs her people-first approach - and her mantra "good data, better technology, best practices." She advocates for empowering employees and democratizing access to GIS tools while making a strong case for geo-spatial business intelligence. In the early 1980's my radio home was KMPC Radio in Los Angeles and it was my honor to lend my talents to the efforts of the Los Angeles Department of Children and Family Services. It was at one of the annual Christmas parties for foster children that I had the pleasure of interviewing some of the stars who had come out for the event. In this episode, you'll hear my conversation with these very special celebrities, beginning with a very young, Melissa Gilbert. Next up, one of the most familiar voices in the history of television, Ed McMahon It's been said that being affectionately insulted by my next guest can be considered a badge of honor. I agree! Enjoy my conversation with Mr. Warmth, himself…Don Rickles My final guest conversation from 1980 is with the one and only, Cher! Merry Christmas!
On tonight's episode, we recap a wild and fun night of Winnipeg Jets hockey against the LA Kings. After a lackluster start where the Jets looked like they might fall apart, what sparked the team back to life? Is the new line of Ehlers-Scheifele-Vilardi the best line this team has had in ages? What will Vilardi's sudden outbreak of scoring mean for the rest of his season? Has he finally arrived as a Jet? With the top line doing so well in Connor's absence, does it make sense to move Kyle to a different line? How can the Jets take advantage of a deeper top-9 to accommodate a greater variety of match-ups? Is this the real Winnipeg Jets, and why did they struggle against opponents of a much lesser caliber? In a report from Main Street America, “Streets as Places,” it notes “Streets are our most fundamental public places. They often represent the largest area of public space in a community and provide the overarching framework by which our cities physically expand and develop over time.” In advancing the concept of “Streets as Places” everyone is challenged to view streets not just providing the function of transporting people, but to also acknowledge the “vital role they play in energizing social and economic life in communities” and “positions communities as the owners of their streets, with a right and a responsibility to directly impact how their public spaces look, function and feel.” As the second largest city in the U.S., Los Angeles is home to nearly 4 million residents living in a land area of roughly 470 square miles with over 7,500 miles of streets!!! Join us as we discuss the importance of streets to a community; efforts by City of LA leadership to re-imagine and reclaim its streets (in a city notoriously known for its automobile culture); and lessons learned from the frontline, with Kevin James, most recently the President of the Board of Public Works Commission for the City of LA. (https://dpw.lacity.org/about-kevin-james) For seven years, James served as President of the Board, the longest consecutively serving board president in history, overseeing the Department of Public Works, with over 5,000 employees responsible for “the design construction, renovation, and operation of public projects….and the maintenance of streets, sidewalks, sewers, streetlights and street trees.” During that time, the City, under Mayor Eric Garcetti, launched the “Great Streets initiative”(https://ladot.lacity.org/sites/default/files/documents/diy-great-streets-manual-lrg-1.pdf) aimed at targeting resources to communities to strengthen key corridors. And, since the COVID 19 pandemic, the City has undertaken a number of initiatives – whether the LA Al Fresco Initiative (https://corona-virus.la/laalfresco) or the Slow Streets Initiative (https://ladot.lacity.org/coronavirus/apply-slow-street-your-neighborhood) – which seeks to reimage and repurpose streets in a way that prioritizes pedestrians over cars, while supporting businesses, creating more space for outdoor recreation, and providing new ways for citizens to come together For more information, please visit www.CivitasLA.com and we hope you’ll rate and review our show; and connect with us on Facebook (@CivitasLA), Instagram (@Civitas_LA) and Twitter (@Civitas_LA).

Eric Garcetti says he ended up as the mayor of Los Angeles, California, “kind of by accident.” He attributes his mayoral pathway to his parents who taught him the importance of public service and listening, and his humble and inclusive heart have helped him find success in the position. "You never win by talking. I think public service is about listening. If you hear your city, you hear your country, you hear your world, it will speak to you." Mayor Garcetti explains that to be successful “in the arena,” you have to be humble and strong, with firm understanding that “you cannot do it on your own.” His collaborative spirit dreams of a Los Angeles in which his daughter and her generation can afford to live, work and attend school. Mayor Garcetti envisions a Los Angeles in which the California Dream is alive and well, a place where people’s daily needs are taken care of. Eric Garcetti steps “In the Arena” and discusses his role as mayor and how first interactions, technology, and legacy are at the forefront of his city vision.
Cat Packer, Executive Director of the Los Angeles Department of Cannabis Regulation, is working to transition medical cannabis operators over to California's new commercial framework. Although the state has had medical cannabis for years, it has not been regulated by the city of Los Angeles until this point, so a lot of catch up is required to make sure the industry is unified and regulated. Packer also discusses the risks that still persist when entering the market, as well as the city's steps toward addressing social equity: "The city of Los Angeles passed a social equity program back in 2017 in an attempt to try and acknowledge and address some of the harms of the drug war that particularly low income and minority communities had experienced." Soon, Packer tells us, Los Angeles will have more social equity licensees than anywhere else.

Welcome to episode# 40 of The Tour Bus Music Show. What a ride it has been so far. We’ve had many interesting interviews from lots of great bands and artists both famous and those working towards fame and fortune. We’ve also shared hours of music from those bands, debuted new music on the show and have been able to get backstage access to events and shows that have been both memorable and exciting experiences that we will treasure throughout our lives…and through it all we’ve been able to share it all with you, our listeners. As we have said on many occasions, without you - our loyal listeners, there would be no us! Furthermore, without all of the talented, hardworking musical acts that have shared their time, lives, and music with us…The Tour Bus Music Show would have never rolled out of the parking lot! That being said, I would like to offer my and the Audios Maximus Team’s most profound thanks and appreciation to each member of our listener nation!
