Send us a textNearly thirty-five years into their unrelenting career, San Diego's sludge metal veterans -(16)- return with Guides For The Misguided, a crushing new album set for release on February 7th via Relapse Records. Frontman Bobby Ferry, who now takes on lead vocal and rhythm guitar duties, describes the album as a natural progression following Into Dust. “It's all about harnessing creative momentum when it strikes,” Ferry states. “Thankfully, we're still driven to write and perform even after all these years.”Since their last full-length, the band has undergone a lineup shift, losing a singer and bringing in Alex Shuster on lead guitar and production duties. This evolution has also influenced their lyrical themes, which now tackle broader conflicts, including religious hypocrisy and psychological trauma. Tracks like “Blood Atonement Blues” explore the dark history of Ervil LeBaron, while “Proudly Damned” delves into the cyclical nature of addiction, using a witch-like character to represent the seductive and destructive force of opiates.Musically, -(16)- continues to craft punishing riffs with raw intensity, blending elements of noise, classic rock, hardcore, doom metal, and thrash. “We are well aware we are not reinventing the wheel but lovingly fashioning something from us and basically for us,” Ferry adds. Tracks like “Proudly Damned” showcase the band's signature fusion of heaviness and storytelling, with seething vocals, apocalyptic guitar tones, and thunderous drumming from Dion Thurman.Closing with the ominously titled “Kick Out The Chair,” Guides For The Misguided stands as a testament to -(16)-'s staying power. Despite the bleak road ahead, their trajectory remains unwavering, solidifying their legacy as one of North America's most enduring heavy acts.www.BetterHelp.com/TheBarnhttp://www.betterhelp.com/TheBarn http://www.betterhelp.com/TheBarnThis episode is sponsored by www.betterhelp.com/TheBarn and brought to you as always by The Barn Media Group. Continuing non-metal September, the boys remain firmly rooted in the year 1993 for this week's album, the classic So Tonight That I Might See by Mazzy Star.
Halifax indie pop-singer Psiren played a special live show with a full band at Radstorm on Thursday, April 18th, to celebrate the release of his new single "Anhedonia"! Psiren (he/him) is a queer, independent singer, rapper, & producer, presenting thoughtful, passionate, jazz-infused pop and hip-hop vocals over dreamy synths, smooth electric keys, grooving basslines, and funky, hard-hitting drum breaks. His lyrics are emotionally honest, and open about sensitive personal and political topics, such as living with mental illness, queer experiences, class struggle, and personal identity in the digital age. Since 2018, Psiren has released five EPs (with his most recent EP “Hope” released this past December), seven original singles, and a cover of Mazzy Star's “Into Dust.” Psiren has also appeared on “We're in It Together” (Rich Aucoin), “Me 2 U” (Tuker Lucy), “The Bitter End” (Wash This Garden With Blood), and has produced two songs for the Buffy-nominated Caius Hubris– “Diamond Hands” and “Someday.” “Anhedonia” explores what it's like to go through the motions while trying desperately to cling to small sources of joy and relief, as they become less and less effective. At its core, It's a song about asking yourself if you need to make a change. Recorded/co-produced by Riley Lloyd, mixed by John Fraser Longley. Recording musicians include Liam MacNeil (Crystal Stares, Acid Wash and (formerly) Drop the Formality), Josh Stewart (Crystal Stares, Acid Wash and The Thaumaturge), Saylor Walker (IDialedYourNumber and Saylor Moon), Will Mulligan, Rho Centurion and River Gosney. https://linktr.ee/psirensongs Special thanks to The Pint Public House/Below Deck Dive Bar for providing us a location to record our chat. Perween Rahman's assassination in 2013 was one of the most high profile target killings in Pakistan that year. She ran an influential NGO, the Orangi Pilot Project, and had exposed how the mafia were stealing Karachi's water supply. She also stood up to local land grabbers. So who was behind her murder? Faced with a botched police investigation, Perween's sister Aquila began a seemingly impossible campaign for justice. Aquila and Perween's story is portrayed in the film Into Dust. Wild Thoughts, Midlife Crisis, Honey!, In the Boring Day, 再度重相逢,Into Dust, Grab My Hair, Run Out.
Nyle Hatcher is one amazing person. Amazingly good at conning rich people out of money, hiding bodies, and raising a family . Support the Show! Be sure to #FillTheFedora on Patreon. Case Profile for #149 Nyle Hatcher Nyle Hatcher is hatching babies! He’s also a serial killer while also being a swell dad. Hatcher, who never had any family growing up is a loner trying to find something meaningful in his life. Now older and wiser he hatches a plan to become a creepy version of Robin Hood to steal from the rich, in this case the deceased rich. He steals not only their money but their sperm as well, and sets up a rouse to give to the troubled, in this case prostitutes. He injects the ladies with the sperm of the deceased men, helping the prostitutes to term, framing the widows for a fake infidelity scam, but he never ends up giving the moms the money. Instead he buries them alive in freshly dug gravesites, takes the money and the kids and raises them as his own. Elsewhere Dembe’s Imam is in trouble as his Mosque is being targeted by the Feds in connection to Syrian extremists. Turns out the extremists actually turn out to be humanitarians and also have no connection to Dembe’s Imam other than attending the same mosque. The Imam is kidnapped by a woman presumed dead by Red and Dembe, in the hopes that she, one Katarina Rostova, can get the answers she needs. . Be sure to answer our profiling question of the week: Will Katarina kill the Imam? Visit our feedback page to leave a response or call +1 (304) 837-2278. More Than a Song - Discovering the Truth of Scripture Hidden in Today's Popular Christian Music
Sometimes our lives can be broken. Other times we can be completely decimated -- rendering us into a pile of dust. How fortunate for us that we serve a Creator Who knows just what to do with dust. Mack Brock sings of God's ability to create out of dust in his song "Into Dust." Let's be encouraged together as we explore what God can do with a little dust in Scripture. On this episode I discuss: Taking a B.I.T.E. out of Scripture - this week's Bible Interaction Tool Exercises include: Reading in context Make a list An example of how something may look perfect on the outside, but be so fragile it can explode into a cloud of dust The story behind the song "Into Dust" by Mack Brock - Worship Together The book by Lysa Terkeurst - It's Not Supposed to Be This Way "Dust doesn't have to signify the end. Dust is often what must be present for the new to begin." - Lysa Terkeurst Article How in Scripture God uses dust to create, to heal, and to start over God using dust to create - Genesis 2:4-7 God using dust to heal - John 9:1-7 How God doesn't NEED dust...He spoke into creation and healed from afar...but He sometimes chooses to use it God uses dust and water (a.k.a. clay) to form and reform us into the vessel as He sees fit - Jeremiah 18:1-12 Additional Resources The story behind the song "Into Dust" by Mack Brock with Lyrics and Chords - Worship Together This Week's Challenge Read Genesis 1 and 2, John 9, and Jeremiah 18. Ponder how God used dust in each of these areas of Scripture. Perhaps these can be jumping off points for you to read larger chunks of Scripture. Listen to His voice, repent and return. Amend your ways and deeds. Trust your dust in the hands of the master potter.
