Enrico is back! Our "Fairy Godfather", Enrico has been one of the earliest supporters of this podcast and our original format of our not-for-profit (since 2011). He was also our guest on our maiden voyage, in episode 2 - back in May 2020. We get started where we left off in Episode 2, exploring a ton of what-ifs and why-nots. Enrico is a veteran actor – starring in Hollywood films, in Broadway theatre productions and in internationally syndicated, culture-making TV series. And in this chat we sit with Enrico as we know him: a guy from the neighbourhood, always in movement and always in search of bigger answers. We discuss the important hold of belief systems on our actions and the untraining . We learn about an out of body experience on stage, realignment with the what is, embracing the original moment and the danger of tribalism without the actual purity of the tribe. We hear ultimately about his thoughts on his last words on earth --- and about a series of recent books that vaulted him into a different kind of question-making, including the questioning of his own beliefs and has had him crave more about the idea of mission and home. Best known for co-creating and starring in the HBO series Insecure, Issa has attracted a significant amount of Hollywood spotlight largely by showcasing her own personal experiences and emotions on screen for all to see. Literally starting from scratch in 2011 as the singular brainchild of a homegrown, Kickstarter-funded YouTube series called Awkward Black Girl, she's come quite a long way to become the sitting President of Barbie Land in the 2023 blockbuster Barbie. She's done amazing work in films like American Fiction, The Lovebirds and The Photograph, and lent her voice to the iconic Marvel character Spider-Woman in Sony's massively successful animated film Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse. She's even had the incredible opportunity to host Saturday Night Live. Issa has also notably put forth a lot of effort toward making more room for African American stories as the founder and CEO of her own film and TV production company, HOORAE. If a super successful career in entertainment wasn't enough, Issa has also found time to branch out into the retail space as co-founder and creative leader of the haircare brand Sienna Naturals—which we carry at Nordstrom—and more recently she's taken the role of chief storyteller for the jewelry brand Cast, which we also carry. We figured that all of the above was probably enough to earn her a spot on The Nordy Pod. Thanks for tuning in to episode 72. We hope you enjoy it! Did you know that YOU can be on The Nordy Pod? This show isn't just a one-way conversation. We want to hear about what Nordstrom looks like through your eyes. For the transcript and full story go to: https://www.drmanonbolliger.com/Lisann-Valentin Highlights from today's episode include: Lisann Valentin 13:14 This is the caveat, if people love to talk about awakenings, right, and I love hearing about it. And I also want to say, and it won't be the only time like, it's not going to just be the one, like, there's cycles and cycles and cycles, if you're open. Lisann Valentin And so, the journey was for me to finally allow myself to let go of the hand of fear, who had been my companion, my dutiful companion for most of my life. I made many courageous leaps. But some of the most important leaps I needed to make, I was gripping fears hand. Lisann Valentin You're only ready for whatever you're ready for. And that's fine. You know, but for me, it was like I was on a death grip. Like, I need to let your hand go. Because it was me doing it. So, fear wasn't like this nemesis, right? It was me. We are exploring the infinite feedback loop between television and society with pop culture historian/author Herbie J Pilato and Eric Scott, who played Ben on The Waltons. Herbie's newest book is called Retro Active Television: An In-Depth Perspective on Classic TV's Social Circuitry which includes a forward written by Eric!We hear about Eric's childhood adventures with his fellow Walton kids on the studio lot, how his relationship with his own parents ensured that his experience as a child actor was a positive one and why our social atmosphere in the 70s was open to positively receiving a warm and cozy show about a family weathering the Great Depression of 1930s. Herbie then gives us his extensively researched and passion-fueled perspective on the life-affirming TV shows of the past as he encourages us to avoid today's darker content while embracing and revisitng the charm and magic of Golden Era TV which is so readily available to us now, across many platforms. We talk about Kung Fu, TV Westerns, sit-coms then and now, the dawn of the miniseries event, After School Specials (some of which featured Eric!) and TV as an educational and inspiring resource. We address the urban/rural divide, the changing late night landscape, and Eric takes on a round of Waltons trivia!Plus, Fritz and Weezy are recommending Little Richard: I am Everything on Apple and Amazon Prime and Judy Blume's Are You There, God? Michael Learned is remarkable in her entirety. Growing up in Vienna, Austria, she despised her masculine name, developed nervous shakes and discovered that her “diplomat” father was a CIA spy. Her mother swore her to secrecy and sent her to a British boarding school where she developed a love and talent for acting.Theater work led to an invitation to audition for a part as the mom to a brood of depression era children in a show that was not given much hope of lasting beyond half a season. She drove down from San Francisco and landed the iconic role of Olivia Walton which earned her three Emmys. The Waltons premiered in 1972 and quickly became a piece of our American cultural fabric. And in an impressive demonstration of range, Michael recently won much acclaim for her portrayal of Jeffrey Dahmer's grandmother in the Netflix original series, Monster. With much to discuss, Michael joins us to talk about juggling her real-life kids with her TV family, she takes on a round of Waltons Trivia, shares her favorite Waltons episode, and divulges her authentic love for TV husband, Ralph Waite. We also welcome Charity Buzz winner Susie Mains who talks about her experiences as a child actor talent rep. In recommendations: Weezy's pick is Dear Edward by Ann Napolitano, now an Apple+ series and Fritz suggests the Hulu doc series, Stolen Youth.Path Points of Interest:Michael Learned on WikipediaMichael Learned on IMDBMichael Learned on FacebookThe WaltonsThe Waltons on PrimeMonster Netflix SeriesDear Edward novel by Ann NapolitanoDear Edward Series on Apple +Dear Edward TrailerStolen Youth - Hulu
