Have you ever seen letters from the 1800s? Aside from the pristine penmanship and grammar, the way friends expressed their fondness for each other is remarkable.“Letters sent between friends are often full of the kinds of loving and affectionate language that today we would only associate with romantic or sexual relationships: ‘My darling,' ‘I love you,' ‘I can't wait to be near you,'” said UC Berkeley historian Sarah Gold McBride, who in 2022 created the course, Friendship in America, with Berkeley anthropologist Christine Palmer. Throughout history, with changes in cultural norms and communication technology, the ways we stay connected to each other has also changed, and not always for the better. While social media can make it easier to find people with similar interests, it can also make it easier to forget what it takes to build and keep meaningful relationships. Gold McBride and Palmer hope their class will inspire students to draw from the past and approach their friendships with the intentionality they require. This is the fifth episode of our eight-part series on transformation. In eight episodes, we're exploring how transformation — of ideas, of research, of perspective — shows up in the work that happens every day at UC Berkeley. New episodes of the series come out on the last Monday of each month. See all episodes of the series.Key takeaways:Gender norms, throughout U.S. history to the modern day, influence the kinds of friendships we make and how we express affection for each other. As our dominant modes of communication shift, how we conceive of friendship evolves, too.By investigating friendship in a deeper way, we can better understand the role of friendship in our lives and become more intentional in how we make and maintain our connections.Read the transcript, listen to episode and see photos on UC Berkeley News (news.berkeley.edu/podcasts).Find us on YouTube@BerkeleyNews.Music by Blue Dot Sessions.Photo by Sarah.rdguezz via Wikimedia Commons. In this episode, Caleb is joined by Christine Palmer (PhD, Hebrew Union College-Jewish Institute of Religion) professor of Old Testament at Gordon Conwell Theological Seminary to discuss a theology of the book of Leviticus. Lori Birckhead never considered herself a farmer. In fact she didn't know the first thing about it, but she heard the Lord speak to her in a dream one night and that changed everything. "I had a dream one night … one of those really vivid dreams that wake you up in the middle of the night. So vivid and real that I woke my husband. "I think we are supposed to buy land, grow food and give it away." Since then, she and her husband founded By Faith Farm which has collected over 180,000 lbs of food and served over 750K meals to the community. Lori and Christine lend us some of their time to talk about that journey of radical obedience that has fed others in more way than one. In this episode of iCantCU, I explain some problems with another app. Starbucks, I'm talking to you. How is a blind or visually impaired person supposed to place an order for a store that is now a mobile order pick-up-only location if the app isn't accessible? On the bright side, I now have an app to use as a demonstration when we meet our Representatives and US Senators during the NFB's Washington Seminar. I also discuss what is going on with Ziggy. He's had an issue since late September and recently had more tests. It may be food allergies. The Golden Menace has become a money pit, but we'll do whatever we can to improve our pooch. Editor's Note Hello all: I do apologize that December 2023's edition never came out. I was experiencing some hardships and had to remove myself from certain obligations. Thank you to those who checked on me and kept me in their thoughts and prayers. On a happier note, the Monthly Digest is one year old! We started this monthly newsletter in January 2023, and it was a pleasure sharing all of this information with everybody! I have received many emails with positive feedback and am glad people are reading this newsletter. That was a fear of mine: that people would not read this newsletter and delete it. However, I am happy that people are engaging with the newsletter. Thank you all! - Stacie Leap A Message from our State Affiliate President Dear Members and Friends, Happy New Year! Benedict Cumberbatch hints at Doctor Strange's Marvel return in new MCU movie “Next Year” – DeadlineBenedict Cumberbatch, who plays Doctor Strange in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, has hinted at his return in 2024. Writer Michael Waldron teased a little bit about Strange's future in an interview with Gizmodo by saying, “We knew that we wanted to introduce Clea. She's Strange's great love in the comics and it felt to me like Strange wasn't at the point at the start of our movie where he was ready to meet the love of his life. It felt like we had to close the loop with he and Christine Palmer.”[1]Agatha: Coven of Chaos star confirms the spinoff is WandaVision Season 2 – CBRDebra Jo Rupp from “WandaVision,” has confirmed that the upcoming spinoff “Agatha: Coven of Chaos” is actually “WandaVision” Season 2. “It's the second season of Wandavision for Marvel. It's very much like American Horror Story, where each season is a whole new kind of a thing.” Rupp explains. “I was shocked when they called me, because I really thought that would be it, and I was fine with that. But when they called, I got so excited because it's a character I never get to play. She's gonna be great fun.”[2]Microsoft Legal Document Alleges PS5 Slim Is Launching Soon – Game RantAccording to a legal document submitted by Microsoft in its ongoing legal battle with the Federal Trade Commission, an all-new version of the PlayStation 5 may be imminent. Nachdem wir SPIDER-MAN: NO WAY HOME nachgeholt hatten, ging es ins Kino, um DR. STRANGE IN THE MULTIVERSE OF MADNESS zu sehen. Regie: Sam Raimi. Der sehenswertere Multiversumsfilm ist dann doch EVERYTHING EVERYWHERE ALL AT ONCE. The Defenders are back in the cinema for Doctor Strange In The Multiverse of Madness starring Benedict Cumberbatch, Elizabeth Olsen and Xochitl Gomez. We chat about every moment in spoiler filled detail in our latest podcast. Synopsis for our Doctor Strange In The Multiverse of Madness Movie Review Directed by: Sam Raimi Written by: Michael Waldron Based on characters by - Steve Ditko and Stan Lee Chased by a demon in the space between universes while searching for the Book of Vishanti, America Chavez has a power that the demon wants. Both Chavez and Defender Strange are unable to escape. With Chavez captured by the demon, and with Strange injured and weakened, she will die if her power is extracted from her by the demon. Seeing no alternative, Defender Strange's only option is to take the power himself, killing Chavez. But Strange is killed and Chavez accidentally creates a portal with her power that transports her and Strange's corpse to Earth-616, where Doctor Stephen Strange and the Sorcerer Supreme, Wong, rescue Chavez from a rune studded octopus demon. Recognizing the runes on the demon, Strange consults Wanda Maximoff for help, but he realizes that she is responsible for the attacks. After acquiring the Darkhold and becoming the Scarlet Witch, Maximoff believes that controlling Chavez's powers will allow her to reunite with her children Billy and Tommy, taken from another universe, after she lost them in Westview. Strange refuses to surrender Chavez to Wanda, and she unleashes the Scarlet Witch against Kamar-Taj, killing many sorcerers. As she hunts Chavez in the ruins of Kamar-Taj, Chavez with no control of her power once again accidentally transports herself and Strange to Earth-838. Wanda uses the Darkhold to pursue Strange and Chavez by "dream-walking". She takes control of her Earth-838 counterpart, but is thwarted by a surviving sorceress in Kamar Taj who sacrifices herself to destroy the Darkhold and break the dream-walk. Enraged, Maximoff forces Wong to lead her to Mount Wundagore, a forbidden ancient ruin, to reestablish the dream-walk. While searching for help and trying to stop the Scarlet Witch, Doctor Strange realises his counterparts in other universes have taken many different trajectories, but in each one he realises that his feelings for Christine Palmer have been the same. As Stephen, America and Christine escape Earth-838, their hope to retrieve the Book of Vishanti is crushed as Wanda destroys it. She takes over Chavez's mind, using her powers to send the others to an incursion-destroyed universe. Back in Earth-616, at Mount Wundagore, Maximoff begins the spell to take Chavez's powers. We are back in the cinema for Doctor Strange In The Multiverse of Madness starring Benedict Cumberbatch, Elizabeth Olsen and Xochitl Gomez. In the incursion destroyed universe, Strange uses its Darkhold to dream-walk in the corpse of the deceased Defender Strange back on Earth-616. With Wong's help, Strange saves Chavez from Wanda. Encouraging her to use her abilities, Chavez transports Wanda to Earth-838, where she sees Billy and Tommy recoil from her in fear while crying for their real mother. It's a special Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness bonus episode! Doctor Strange and Wanda Maximoff, now Scarlet Witch, must contend with what they both have done to the Multiverse. In this episode, Richard and Sarah break down the film and share their thoughts on the characters, genre and scenes. Where do our favorite characters go from here?? What do we think of a horror film in the MCU? We also share your thoughts, too. As with any of our breakdowns, this episode DOES contain spoilers. Full Synopsis: The film opens as America Chavez and an alternate version of Doctor Strange flee through the space between universes to find the Book of Vishanti to stop a demon chasing them. (The Book of the Vishanti contains spells of defensive magic and is indestructible. Its counterpart, the Darkhold, contains all the knowledge of black magic). Chavez makes it to Earth-616 and is saved by Doctor Strange and Sorcerer Supreme Wong. She tells them that she is being hunted because she has the power to travel through the multiverse. They soon realize it was Wanda who is hunting Chavez down to gain her power so she can cross the multiverse and find her kids, Billy and Tommy. When Strange refuses to surrender Chavez, Wanda attacks Kamar-Taj, killing many acolytes. Chavez then accidentally transports herself and Strange across the multiverse to Earth-838. While searching for help, Strange and Chavez are arrested by Earth-838's Karl Mordo and brought before the Illuminati, which consists of Mordo himself, Captain Peggy Carter (from the animated series, What If?), King Black Bolt (who is part of the Inhumans), Captain Maria Rambeau (from Captain Marvel), Doctor Reed Richards (from the FF), and Professor Charles Xavier (from the X-Men). Mordo believes our Earth's Strange is dangerous, but before they can pass judgment, Wanda arrives and kills the Illuminati, except Mordo. Strange and Chavez escape with help from Strange's ex-fiancé Christine Palmer, who is an Illuminati scientist in this multiverse. Escaping from Wanda, the three enter the space between universes to find the Book of Vishanti, but Wanda appears and takes over Chavez's mind, using her powers to send the others to a sinister, mostly-destroyed universe. Strange and Palmer fight the sinister universe's Strange, who has been corrupted by the Darkhold. Strange uses this Darkhold to dream-walk into the corpse of the alternate Strange which remained on Earth-616 and save Chavez. Unable to overpower Wanda, Chavez instead transports her back to Earth-838, allowing Billy and Tommy to witness her evil. The kids are terrified by Wanda, who is there as the Scarlet Witch, but after realizing how much death and destruction she's caused, Wanda uses her powers to destroy all copies of the Darkhold throughout the multiverse, seemingly sacrificing herself in the process. Before Christine returns to Earth-838, Strange tells her that he still loves his universe's Christine but has always been too scared to have a real relationship. America begins training as a sorcerer at Kamar-Taj. Today In Star Wars History: Part 1 - January through June is now available for pre-order!! Click here for all the details, packages and discounts. Watch the official trailer for Marvel Studios' #DoctorStrange in the Multiverse of Madness. Only in cinemas May 6. The Doctor Strange sequel is gearing up to have a few jaw-dropping surprises. On Sunday, Marvel Studios released a new trailer for Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, a standalone sequel for the Benedict Cumberbatch Avengers character after the 2016 installment. The action-packed trailer sees Doctor Strange enlisting the help of Elizabeth Olsen's Wanda Maximoff/Scarlett Witch to get a grip on colliding universes as well as coming face-to-face with his dark variant Strange Supreme, who previously appeared in Disney+'s What If...? series. The clip also teases a possible X-Men cameo when an unknown character — sounding a lot like Patrick Stewart's Professor X — says, "We should tell him the truth," around the 1:18 mark. The film is directed by Sam Raimi — who previously directed the Tobey Maguire–led Spider-Man movies in the early 2000s — and also sees the return of Rachel McAdams as Dr. Christine Palmer, Benedict Wong as Wong, and Chiwetel Ejiofor as Strange's mentor-turned-enemy Karl Mordo. Xochitl Gomez will also make her MCU debut as America Chavez. Last year, Olsen, 32, told Variety about filming the Doctor Strange sequel so close to wrapping on WandaVision and how the stories inform each other. She earned an Emmy nomination for her performance in the limited series. "I didn't know my part in Doctor Strange until right before we got back to filming during the pandemic. We had two months left, and we'd filmed the majority of our show already," she recalled at the time. "Really, I knew nothing until that moment when they pitched [Doctor Strange 2] to me verbally. So I tried, as much as I could, almost less so to have it affect WandaVision as have WandaVision affect it. I think that's really been where the connection is. It's almost like we're trying to make sure that everything is honoring what we did [on the show]." Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness is in theaters May 6. --- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/masseffect/support
Welcome to another episode of OTTplay Now You Know, one podcast that gives you all the lesser-known trivia, facts and even anecdotes of popular films and shows. I'm your host NikhilDoctor Stephen Strange is set to return to the silver screens this summer in the highly anticipated Marvel film Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. So here are some trivia and lesser-known facts about Benedict Cumberbatch's first outing as the Sorcerer Supreme in the 2016 film, Doctor Strange. Let's kickstart the triviaThe unique mirror dimension scenes in the film confused actor Mads Mikkelsen, as the overwhelming use of CGI made him lose track of how to perform certain scenes. At approximately one hour and 28 minutes into the runtime, the Cloak of Levitation wipes away Stephen Strange's tears. This was not originally part of the script until Benedict Cumberbatch suggested it. The writers went along with it as they believed it elevated the scene. The scene where Rachel McAdams is startled and frightened by a mop falling whilst inside a broom closet was genuine as it fell down by accident. As McAdams stayed in character throughout the scene, the film's director Scott Derrickson decided to include it in the final cut of the film.Benedict Cumberbatch had initially dropped out from the project due to scheduling conflicts with his theatrical work for William Shakespeare's play, Hamlet. The role was then offered to Joaquin Phoenix, but Phoenix turned it down as he did not want to commit to a multi-film deal. However, as the film was delayed by a few months Cumberbatch returned to sign the deal with Marvel Studios and Disney, and the rest as they say is history. His character has essentially replaced Robert Downey Jr's Tony Stark/Iron Man as the new face of the MCU, especially after playing important roles in the recent What if…? animated series and Spider-Man: No Way Home. His upcoming film Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness could potentially set the tone for Marvel's films for the next decade by introducing new Marvel characters and the much-anticipated introduction of the X-Men into the MCU.Benedict Cumberbatch once walked into a comic book store in his full Doctor Strange costume to buy a Doctor Strange comic book while filming was still going on.Steve Ditko, the creator of Doctor Strange, modelled Doctor Strange's look after Hollywood actor Vincent Price. In fact, Doctor Strange's full name is Stephen Vincent Strange.Steve Ditko's inspiration for the design of the Eye of Agamotto was from The All-Seeing Eye of the Buddha. The symbol's origins are from Nepal as it is believed to safeguard the wearer from the forces of evil, and it is known as the Amulet of Snail Martyrs by Buddhists.Rachel McAdams was Jon Favreau's first choice to play Pepper Potts in the 2008 film Iron Man, but she declined the role and Gwyenth Paltrov was eventually cast for the part. However, the rise in popularity of Marvel films over the years compelled McAdams to change her stance and she signed a multi-film deal with the studio to play the role of Dr Christine Palmer. The son and daughter of legendary British actress Tilda Swinton, who plays the role of Doctor Strange's mentor, The Ancient One, worked on various departments of the film's production. Her son, Xavier, worked in the art department, while her daughter, Honor, was part of the costume department. If you haven't watched this flick yet then do so streaming on Disney + HotstarWell that's the OTTplay Now You Know for today's episode, until the next podcast it's your host Nikhil signing out.Aaj kya dekhoge OTTplay se poocho

In Spider-Man: No Way Home, Doctor Stephen Strange issued a stark warning: “The Multiverse is a concept about which we know frighteningly little.” Now, the price of Strange's folly comes due in the newly-released trailer for Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. And the good doctor is way out of his depth as the consequences of his arrogance come back to haunt him. Strange truly believed that he could escape unscathed. However, his misguided notion may have far-reaching implications for the MCU. Benedict Cumberbatch, of course, returns as Strange, and there's a reason he approaches Elizabeth Olsen's Wanda Maximoff shortly after the events of WandaVision. The newly crowned Scarlet Witch believes that Strange is there to punish her for what she did in Westview. And while Strange is fully aware that Wanda's power turned that town into a TV wasteland, he's not concerned about that. Instead, he needs Wanda's help as he faces the danger ahead. Strange's old ally-turned-adversary, Karl Mordo (Chiwetel Ejiofor), is also glimpsed in the new trailer. And over time, Mordo's position has become more sympathetic. He was last seen in the post-credits scene of Doctor Strange stripping the magical abilities away from a novice sorcerer because he believed that there were too many magic users in the world. Another intriguing sequence in the trailer shows us a world where Strange found happiness with Dr. Christine Palmer (Rachel McAdams), his ex-flame in the MCU. That world could prove to be very tempting, even to Strange. Additionally, viewers of Marvel's What If…? animated series may recognize the Supreme Strange, an alternate version of Stephen Strange who abused his power and tried to remake his timeline after Christine died. Supreme Strange may have been the Watcher's ally, but he could be Doctor Strange's most powerful adversary to date. Because as formidable as Strange is, the Supreme Strange is more so. He also has a ruthless streak when dealing with anything in his way. In this alternate universe, Dr. Stephen Strange does not injure his hands in a fateful car accident. Instead, his girlfriend, Dr. Christine Palmer is killed in the crash. Her death sends him on the journey by which he becomes the Sorceror Supreme. But in his desperation to reverse Christine's death, Strange begins heading down a dangerous path of time manipulation. The Ancient One attempts to protect the universe from Strange's dark sorcery, splitting him into two co-existing timelines. In one timeline, Strange becomes an obsessed dark sorcerer, while the other Doctor Strange moves on with his life. The dark Strange lacks the power to bring Christine back himself, so he overpowers the good Strange & unites their beings. But the plan backfires. Christine is not only horrified at the monstrous visage of Strange, but she dies all over again, and the universe rips apart. Episode 4 stars Benedict Cumberbatch, Rachel McAdams, Benedict Wong, Tilda Swinton, Ike Amadi, and Jeffrey Wright. After losing his girlfriend Dr. Christine Palmer in a car crash, Dr. Stephen Strange travels to Kamar-Taj and learns the Mystic Arts. He discovers the Eye of Agamotto, which can manipulate time, but is warned by the Ancient One and Wong that doing so could destroy reality. Two years later, Strange repeatedly attempts to use the Eye to save Palmer, but she still dies in every scenario. The Ancient One tells Strange that Palmer's death is an "absolute point" in the timeline that cannot be undone, but Strange refuses to listen. Using the power of the Dark Dimension, the Ancient One splits Strange into two alternate versions: one Strange accepts Palmer's death while the other discovers how to gain power by absorbing mystical beings, becoming Strange Supreme. This evil version overpowers the good Strange, absorbs him, and uses his power to resurrect Palmer, tearing reality apart. Strange Supreme begs the Watcher for help, but he refuses to intervene. Palmer disintegrates and the universe collapses, leaving Strange Supreme to grieve alone.

Legends of S.H.I.E.L.D.: An Unofficial Marvel Agents Of S.H.I.E.L.D. Fan Podcast
Events are moving at a fast pace this season in Agents Of S.H.I.E.L.D.. Ward is ruining everything, no one is telling Fitz or Bobbi Morse anything apparently and Bobbi is returning the favor in kind. Daisy and Mack are meeting their match. Just who is Lash transforming into? And WHAT is going on with the ACTU and President Rosalind? Agent Lauren returns to discuss the finer points of the episode with Agents Stargate Pioneer and Haley. SP discloses that he is indeed a mutant. There’s a full Comic Book Weekly Roundup segment this week with Black Adam, Lauren and Neil all providing their take. And as always the hosts also take time to discuss the week in Marvel news and review all the awesome Legends Of S.H.I.E.L.D. feedback. EPISODE "Devils You Know" [7:17] Just what happened to Simmons on the other side of the Universe? We cannot wait to find out next episode as she tells Fitz. The three hosts all tell their theories about what is happening with one of our favorite Science Babies (Hint: Inhuman Gene). Hunter happened to have less of a plan than Starlord did. Theories abound with both Lash and Dr. Andrew Garner INCLUDING a Sitwell callback and why Lash did not kill Daisy (Thank you Adam for the theory to begin with!). Laboratory workers are nuts with their codes. Lauren is still shipping Science Baby and Science Baby Sitter (I.E. Bobbi and Simmons). We are in awe over Daisy’s capabilities as an operative now and gracious for the casting since Marvel KNEW what Chloe Bennet was going to have to do and trusted Chloe with it even though Chloe didn’t know what she was getting into. What is your shipping name for Rosalind and Coulson? As much as we want to see more of The Bus (Zephyr One) living in an RV starts smelling after a while. May’s return was AMAZING. Coulson totally DOES has a laser finger.
