Directed by Richard Fleischer, Red Sonja is the epic sword and sorcery film based on the character, Red Sonja of Rogatino, created by Robert E. Howard, who also inspired the comic book character of the same name. Luke and Nathan return to the Hyborian Age of 1985 to discuss this box-office bomb. Power-hungry Queen Gedren (Sandahl Bergman) captures the priestesses guarding the Talisman, a mystical orb that created and can destroy the world. But one of the priestesses escapes and seeks out her warrior sister, Red Sonja (Brigitte Nielsen), to warn her about Gedren's plan for world domination. Lord Kalidor (Arnold Schwarzenegger), the Talisman's keeper, insists on helping Sonja, and though she scorns the assistance of any man, she soon gains respect for Kalidor's fighting prowess.

Dans ce Sixième épisode du « bon, le culte et le navrant » Tom & Carlito s'aventurent dans des contrées hostiles et des époques farouches en explorant le territoire des films de Barbares ! Maître étalon du thème, et c'est le cas de le dire, c'est le sauvage « Conan le barbare » qui sera traité en premier dans la rubrique « autour du culte » puis la séquence “copyculte” s'intéressera à “Conan le destructeur”, suite très différente du premier film mais qui aura eu aussi beaucoup d'influence sur le genre. Il sera temps alors d'ajouter un peu de chaleur animale dans ces mondes de brutes en évoquant « Dar, l'invincible » sa panthère et ses fouines dans la rubrique « ça se disculte ». Enfin après la sauvagerie, la magie et les animaux il fallait bien que l'humour involontaire et le grand n'importe quoi viennent s'ajouter au genre et ce sera l'objet de la rubrique « ridiculte » qui reviendra sur quelques films plus barrés que barbares mais plus navrants que barbants : « Kalidor » et son Schwarzie pris en otage d'un film qu'il ne voulait pas faire, « Kull, le conquérant » qui nous aura surtout conquis par son ridiKull, « Dar l'invincible 2 » et son Marc « Donovan » Singer qui remonte le temps en slip peau de bête, le bis italien “sangraal” qui rencontre le grave plus que le graal, « barbarian queens » et ses guerrières très très peu farouches et enfin le légendaire « Barbarians » qui fait cohabiter barbaques et barbares avec les testosteronés Frères Paul plus que jamais en « Paul Position » pour remporter la palme du ratage total. C'est le moment de saisir votre glaive et d'enfiler vos bottes fourrées pour découvrir avec Tom & Carlito “le bon, le culte et le navrant” d'un genre hachement bien !

Conan rides through your screen once again but this time he's named Kalidor and he's not the main character. Instead, a non-action star shows us what non-action looks like in the least adventurous adventure movie ever made. Swords & Sandals? Check. Visual Valium? You betcha. I don't know how this movie stinks so bad. It has your typical lady-hero plot of sword & sandal genre staples. Revenge for burning down the village. Ok. Wait, the villain burned down the village for subtle lesbian motivations? Wow, that sounds super hot. Well....it's not. This is "walking around" the movie. Look, Frodo & Samwise walk to Mordor for a vacation from paradise and you can't take your eyes off it. Here, the entire world is about to be destroyed by cracking apart (again because of a jilted lesbian) and you can't keep awake. For the most part, this is the fault of two people: 1) Dino De Laurentiss and 2) Brigidette Nielsen. Dino edited forced this turd out because he apparently couldn't get anything made that didn't involve Conan. And then Nielsen's terrible line delivery and even worse sword-fighting. The entire time she looks like she's afraid of the script (with good reason) and her sword hitting her in the face. This is not an action lady, folks. See Geena Davis in Cutthroat Island for more realistic stunts. Blech. So long story short, this is just folks walking around. At best this is fun only because of the incredibly dubious plot, the fantastic matte-work, and the bonkers costumes and set design. Hope you don't like things happening in a film!
