Yup, finally a proper Thanksgiving themed horror film with all the fixings plus room for dessert or as they say in Hollywood a "sequel". Les amis de "Jef" racontent qu'il conserva toute sa vie les carnets manuscrits de sa mère et qu'il songea même à s'en servir pour écrire sa Promesse de l'aube. À la mort de Kessel, restait un paquet de feuilles, tapées à la machine, qui commencent par ces mots : "Mon fils me demande d'écrire mes souvenirs. Je le fais par amour pour lui." Longtemps considéré comme disparu, ce texte était devenu un mythe dont on savait seulement qu'il relatait la saga de la famille Kessel. Exhumés aujourd'hui, les souvenirs de Raïssa racontent l'histoire poignante d'une famille juive dans la Russie de la fin du XIX? siècle, confrontée aux pogroms et aux mesures discriminatoires. Partie d'Orenbourg pour étudier la pharmacie à Montpellier, Raïssa rencontre Samuel Kessel, un étudiant en médecine. Elle l'épouse et le couple s'installe dans une colonie juive d'Argentine, revient en Russie puis choisit la France. Raïssa ne cache ni ses difficultés ni ses combats, face à l'adversité, aux discriminations et aux problèmes de santé. Sa mémoire est précise ; elle ne se dérobe pas et reste en toutes circonstances, une femme admirable : debout. Étienne de Montety, écrivain et journaliste, directeur du Figaro littéraire a retrouvé ce manuscrit et en a rédigé la préface. Étienne de Montety dirige Le Figaro littéraire. Il est l'auteur de plusieurs biographies et d'un roman paru aux Éditions Gallimard, L'article de la mort (collection Blanche, 2009). À propos du livre " Mon amie de plume " paru aux éditions Belfond Salman Rushdie dit de Yiyun Li qu'elle est " l'une des plus grandes autrices de notre temps ". Elle le prouve avec son nouveau roman sur l'amitié féminine, entre admiration mutuelle et rancœur, n'est pas sans rappeler L'Amie prodigieuse, d'Elena Ferrante. Fabienne est morte. Cette nouvelle, Agnès l'apprend en Amérique, bien loin de la campagne française où toutes deux ont grandi et sont devenues inséparables, bien loin de ce lieu qu'Agnès a fui, avec l'aide de Fabienne. Fabienne est morte et Agnès est enfin libre de raconter son histoire. Agnès et Fabienne étaient les meilleures amies du monde, deux fillettes qui s'étaient créé une bulle pleine d'imagination, d'histoires, de rêves, pour mieux échapper à la rudesse de la vie dans la France d'après guerre. Deux fillettes qui voulaient vivre autrement, mieux ; deux fillettes qui avaient un plan. Et puis Fabienne a trahi Agnès. Le plan s'est écroulé, leurs trajectoires se sont séparées, la tragédie a frappé... Lauréat du prix PEN Faulkner Award dans la catégorie fiction. Pas de questions non plus à mon père sur sa mère. C'est une manière, me dis-je, de respecter son silence. Ce qu'elle ne m'a jamais dit ne sera pas dit dans le livre. Comme elle oublie, le livre doit oublier aussi. " Enfant, la grand-mère de Raphaël Sigal a traversé la Shoah. À la fin de sa vie, alors qu'elle souffre de la maladie d'Alzheimer, son petit-fils entreprend d'écrire son histoire. Mais comment raconter une vie à partir d'indices épars ? It's Halloween and your friends at Forever Midnight have some treats for ya! This year the crew chose at Jef's suggestion the made for TV movie from 1985 "The Midnight Hour"! De Bijbel verandert je leven by Jef & Herlinde

In this episode it was Jef's turn to pick a movie for the crew to watch and chat about, Brian and Josh figured after their stinky picks recently Jef was going to elevate the situation and pick a good movie. Well Jef decided it was only fair to stoop to their level and dig into the dumpster for a nice ripe one. Of course he would never just do any old thing, he will always make sure there are at the very least good actors attached to his pick. He was not wrong, he chose 1995's "Hideaway" starring Jeff Goldblum, Alicia Silverstone, Jeremy Sisto, Rae Dawn Chong and Alfred Molina! A whole stack of somebodies! Alas even with all that star power, Hideaway might be best appreciated by those that saw it when it came out, or  who knows maybe it is your future favorite movie? Either way The FM3 dig into it and come out the other side forever touched by Heaven and Hell, and revived and ready for the next episode. So win win? Enjoy!

But instead of choosing something else Brian, Jef and Josh dive dick first into the deep dark dumpster that holds The Charles Band Archives and resurfaced with "The Dungeonmaster" from 1984. After very very little thought he decided to finally unleash the surreal nightmare that is the one and only "Skinned Deep" starring Warwick Davis!! Knowing full well that Jef and Josh would hate this movie, he waited until the perfect moment, and that perfect moment is now and why is the perfect moment now you might ask? Having heard the name and seen the VHS artwork Jef, Josh and Brian could only imagine that this flick was nothing more than a  janky music video for Boris Pickett & The Crypt Kicker 5's punishing jam "The Monster Mash".  Thank goodness it wasn't and because It is actually a pretty fun horror anthology with some cool musical numbers. Plus you get a monster sized dose of Vincent Price and John Carradine as the book ends of each of the stories and boy oh boy they are hamming it up and down. The best part is that Boris Pickett was nowhere to be found and for the Forever Midnight boys that meant this flick might not stink to high heavens like the Wolfman's nards or the Crypt Kickers crypt knickers. 

How is it possible that you have never heard guitarist Jef Lee Johnson?  He was as incendiary and as nakedly original as any soloist you have ever heard (absolutely any!).  But his greater distinction might have been his songwriting.  You don't learn to write songs that are that revealing, that insightful, that cleverly put-together, and that hilariously funny, just by working at it.  First, you have to have the wisdom, and Jef had it pouring out of him.  It seemed as if he couldn't make it stop if he wanted to.   Jef toured and recorded for decades, but, for whatever reason, he never broke through the way many of us thought he should have. One person who got to witness the artistry up close was fellow guitarist Bob Dee.  The two shared the front line in Ronald Shannon Jackson's Decoding Society, and Bob has never forgotten a moment of what he saw and heard.  Bob joins host Mitch Goldman for a Deep Focus that continues the WKCR Lost Masters tradition.
