Pirates General Manager Ben Cherington joins Darragh McDonald to discuss how he's diving deeper into player development in Pittsburgh, why the team has had more success developing pitchers than hitters, how the Pirates considered drafting a position player instead of Paul Skenes, why the they haven't signed a player to a multi-year deal during his tenure, and the necessity of small-market teams to acquire players via trades. Then Anthony Franco joins the pod to discuss the Orioles locking up their young catcher Samuel Basallo with an 8-year extension, if Adley Rutschman could get moved, Felix Bautista being out for a full year after undergoing shoulder surgery, Zack Wheeler's diagnosis of thoracic outlet syndrome and the timeline for his return, and whether the Rangers will decide they are out of the playoff race and place players on waivers to dump salary in order to get under the luxury tax threshold.
The Orioles suffered a big loss today: Felix Bautista is out for the next 12 months. The 2026 bullpen is looking extremely thin, and will certainly require some external support. But, the rotation continues to bask in the glow of of a rejuvenated Trevor Rogers. We appreciate the run that Rogers is on, and examine the weakness that he has astoundingly turned into a strength: his breaking balls. BlueSky Twitter YouTube

Kevin reflects on a challenging 24 hours for the Phillies, criticizing the team's decision to leave Jesus Luzardo in a difficult situation. He also points out Rob Thomson's questionable choices, such as substituting Kyle Schwarber for a pinch runner. Additionally, the Orioles have placed Felix Bautista on the injured list, effectively removing him from the trade deadline discussions. Kevin speculates about the potential for increased playing time for Cooper DeJean at the outside corner position, given the team's needs there. He notes that Cooper has also been practicing at safety, raising questions about where he will ultimately fit into the lineup this season. Anthony SanFillippo joins the conversation to delve into the latest trade deadline rumors surrounding the Phillies, as well as to discuss the Flyers, who may find themselves in an intriguing position regarding their roster.
Ed, Rob, and Jeremy took some time from Thursday's BBMS to discuss what Felix Bautista's injury means for his future. Is he still a valuable trade piece?

Headlines and Yay! It's Trade Deadline Month Day! Today we are heading to Baltimore to analyze the possibilities of the Mariners trading for Ryan O'Hearn, so what would be standing in our way? Will he be available? Baltimore is having a massively disappointing season considering the expectations and they will wait until the last minute to decide if they're really out of it, then the flood gates may open. Is he a difference maker? Would it still be a 1st base platoon situation? Not sure if that's worth it. And how would he fare at T-Mobile Park? The move doesn't seem to qualify as a splash move and if we only get one of those then… What if we paired him with Felix Bautista? :30- MLB Allstar festivities begin this weekend with the Futures game on Saturday, the Draft on Sunday and the Home Run Derby on Monday. Then on Tuesday, there's an extra element of excitement for the All-star game- they will be using the Challenge system. :45- The 2025 Seahawks aren't getting a lot of love nationally. So, what will it take for this team to exceed expectations? It's all about the defense.

Ed, Rob, and Jeremy took some time from Wednesday's BBMS to discuss the article by ESPN's Jeff Passan naming six O's as top trade candidates heading towards the deadline. Felix Bautista and Ryan O'Hearn are two of the guys at the top of Passan's list but are those two corner stone players the O's need for the future?
The Rafael Devers trade was shocking to everyone, but now it's got us thinking about what moves the Mariners could make ahead of the MLB Trade Deadline. - Louis Robert Jr- not having a great year, but could a change of scenery do the trick? - The Orioles aren't having the season they expected, but Ryan O'Hearn is having an all-star season and adding in Felix Bautista could sweeten the deal. You might have to give up Miller though, would you? - Byron Buxton is about as talented a payer as you'll find, but he's got a lengthy injury history and it's been rumored that the Twins are interested in shopping him. You might have to give up Harry Ford for him, worth it? - Salvador Perez…The Royals are having a terrible year and Perez is on the last year of his deal, so could they get rid of him? Mitch Garver and a couple prospects might be the cost and he could solve several issues for you. - Austin Riley still remains a possibility as the Braves continue to underperform, but could his large salary be the deterrent? :30- ANGIE MENTINK (ROOT Sports) joins us on rubber match day as we find even more ways to love Cal Raleigh. :45- Bucky may not be here this week, but he is dominating the Green Jackets right now and we need to praise him… as much as it pains us. Ed, Rob, and Jeremy took some time from Wednesday's BBMS to debate what the O's should do at the trade deadline. Some are calling Felix Bautista their best trade piece, but if the O's are attempting to re-tool rather than rebuild, do you hold on to The Mountain?
Anthony Franco joins Darragh McDonald to discuss what the Red Sox will do in light of Alex Bregman's quad injury, including top prospect Marcelo Mayer getting called up, whether Rafael Devers will get any time a third base, if Trevor Story will lose playing time to due to his struggles, and how the team could make room for Roman Anthony. They also get into some Pirates topics including Jared Jones getting UCL surgery, whether the team should trade Paul Skenes, and what other trade chips they could move at the deadline. Listener question topics include whether the Orioles should trade Felix Bautista, if Kyle Tucker would be a good fit for the Giants this offseason, how seriously to take the Cardinals, the chances of the Cubs trading Kevin Alcantara, and what has led to the Dodgers having 14 pitchers simultaneously on the injured list.

It was not pretty, the run differential was -10 overall, but the Orioles just took a series from the New York Yankees. This episode discusses the team meeting that hopefully sparked something, the exploits of Tomoyuki Sugano, and the return of Felix Bautista. As a bonus, Heston Kjerstad is a bit of a hot head... but that's also exactly what we needed this week? BlueSky Twitter YouTube
The guys hop on after a Wednesday victory over the Yankees to recap a series that showed us the highest of highs, and lowest of lows of what this young season has had to offer thus far. Two tight wins that ended on Felix Bautista's arm, sandwiching an embarrassing loss in which Kyle Gibson was completely uncompetitive in his 2025 debut seems like a strange microcosm of most of this year of the O's, with the key difference being a victorious three game set as opposed to a loss. Will it carry over into positive momentum? Only time will tell. Thanks as always for listening, and we'll be back at you very soon! Fantasy Baseball Live – December 1, 2024Segment 1 – News and Notes1.The Dodgers have been busy.a.They signed Blake Snell to a 5-year, $182 million deal with $62 million deferred. This model appears to be the Dodgers' signature as they kick the financial ball down the road. i.The Dodgers appear to want a star at each position and a rotation of #1 starters. The obvious problem here is the health of these starters. Thoughts?b.The Dodgers also extend Tommy Edman, signing him to a 5-year, $74 million extension. Once again, money is deferred – a third, in this case, $25MM.i.If the deferred strategy is working, why aren't other teams joining in?c.Should MLB step in against this strategy or just let teams continue to push their liabilities to a later date?d.If the deferred strategy is working, why aren't other teams joining in?i.Should MLB intervene against this strategy or let teams continue to postpone their liabilities?2.Down the road, the Angels sign Yusei Kikuchi to a three-year, $63 million (nothing deferred). Kikuchi has always had great stuff, and with his two months with the Astros, they finally unlocked something. The data shows a pitch mix change to focus more on his slider. a.Let's cut to the chase...will the Angels find some way to turn him back into the old Kikuchi?b.His ADP is 142, and he's going as an early #3 starter. Interested?i.Who would you rather have game?Segment 2 – Fantasy Questions of the NL East – Phillies and Nationals1.Philadelphia Philliesa.Bryce Harper is going off the board at #21 and Trea Turner at #24. Who are you more worried about returning their draft value, and why?b.JT. Realmuto had a down season with 14 home runs, 2 SB, and a .266 BA. At 34, is this the beginning of the downward slope or can he have one more 20+ HR season with a few more stolen bases?i.Statcast data seems to suggest there is still something in the tankc. If Johan Rojas remains the starting centerfielder, is this a player you find interesting at the draft table? Early NFBC drafts are not buying it as he's going as the 656 player off the boardd.Ranger Suarez posted a 2.76 ERA in the first half and somewhat imploded in the second half with a 5.65 ERA. Granted, he only pitched 36 innings in the second because of some injuries. Are you going to bet more on the first half or take a pass. He's the 104th pitcher off the board. Let's call him a #5 starter. Are you interested?e.Give me a sleeper in the organization (minor or majors)2.Washington Nationalsa.James Wood early in the fourth round or Dylan Crews in the 10th round. Who would you rather have?i.James Wood 2025 stat line – HR, SB, and BAii.Dylan Crews 2025 stat line – HR, SB, and BAb.One of my guys is Jose Tena. However, he's getting next to zero love in early drafts. His ADP is 513. Am I out to lunch here? He hit the ball very hard, with 91.2 average exit velocity and 71st percentile in sprint speed. Granted, he loves to swing the pole and rarely walks, but the fantasy tools seem alluring. c.Is this the year that Juan Yepez finally gets a ton of playing time? He's an afterthought in early drafts with an ADP of 605. Any interest?d.Who besides MacKenzie Gore interest you at the draft table from the Nats list of starting pitchers?e.Give me a sleeper in the organization (minor or majors)3.Final Questiona.Who wins the NL East and how many playoff teams will there be?Segment 3 – Fantasy Questions of the AL East – Baltimore and Boston1.Baltimore Oriolesa.Jackson Holliday – 2025 stat line: AB, HR, SB, and BAi.He's going off the board as the 17th-second baseman. We will determine who you'd rather haveb.Colton Cowser hit 24 home runs and stole nine bases. The data looks great on him. Are you looking for more this season? If so, how much more?i.His ADP is 162 or the 37th outfielder off the board. Does that feel about right or are you going to jump the line?c.Grayson Rodriguez is going as a late #2 or early #3 starter. His stuff looks great, but is this too high based on his lack of an MLB history?d.Felix Bautista should be back, and early drafters are excited. He's going as the number six closer off the board. Too risky, or do you take the gamble?e.Trevor Rogers is free (665 ADP). Is he worth a gamble in Draft-and-Hold Leagues?f.Give me a sleeper in the organization (minor or majors)
