As we sit down with the former baseball player turned digital artist, Tom shares his story about the leap of faith into the world of cryptocurrency and his discovery of NFTs. I was introduced to Micah Johnson by Jeffrey Beyle, one of my guests during Season 1 of The LoCo Experience (Episode 29 if you wanna check it out), and one of my spies in the Boulder area. By spies I mean those who think of me when they meet someone with an interesting business journey to share, and a lot of value to share with the business community through a podcast conversation like this one! Micah is what most would call a serial entrepreneur, with multiple starts and exits, and some failures. Micah's largest business venture to date was GoFanbase, Inc., a social media marketing and community-building strategy firm based in Nashville, which focused on multi-location businesses such as auto dealerships and restaurants. After growing his team to over 100 employees, he and his wife Alane made the decision to exit and search for a next chapter. After years of focus on efficiency and teams and automations at GoFanbase (and a choppy merger integration) the pair was left with skill sets essential to their current venture - Workday Ninjas! Workday Ninjas helps their agency and B2B service business clients remove roadblocks to scaling through tools like Monday.com, Asana, and ClickUp. Having utilized Monday.com for the past 3 years, and currently undergoing a database conversion to the CRM tool offered by Monday, this was an intriguing opportunity for me to learn more about the kinks and capabilities of the platform from an expert - and ultimately uncover principles of efficiency, communication, and building high-functioning teams. I learned a lot, and had a lot of fun, and I'm confident that you will enjoy my conversation with Micah Jonnson. This week we talk about different ways to travel around Michigan, whether it's by food, farm, Finnish sauna, or fine wine. We were looking for tips on travels from both local and national experts, and we have an interesting line-up of guests this week.We start off with James Beard Foundation nominee, Chef James Rigato who owns the award-winning restaurant Mabel Gray in Hazel Park. He also is a regular up in the Keweenaw and is currently rehabbing a local bar in the area. He shares an incredible itinerary of things to explore in this beautiful and remote part of Michigan. We are big fans of farms, and to be honest, cheese and ice cream. So a visit to Country Dairy in New Era is alright by us, anytime. Did you know that you can do a farm tour here, and learn all about the dairy industry? And what is it like to give tours like these? We talk to Micah Johnson, a tour guide here, about milk machines, ice cream, and maybe (shhhh) hamburgers. He also lets us in on a really special experience you can have at the farm this spring. We learned some pretty big news this week....did you know that there is a National Sauna Week? We didn't either, but we immediately had to know more. We went right to the top, and have the executive director of the national Finlandia Foundation, Tommy Flanagan on to tell us all about it.(Congrats to Debbie Paver of Calumet, who created the winning entry in the first National Sauna Week poster contest.)When you think Michigan wine you might automatically head straight up North, but did you know there are multiple wine trails you can explore all over the lower peninsula? We catch up with Justin Gifford, the executive director of Visit Lenawee to learn more about the River Raisin Wine Trail in southeast Michigan.*8 a.m. Saturdays on WBRN - 1460 AM and 107.7 FM in Big Rapids*8 a.m. Saturdays on Kalamazoo Talk Radio 1360 WKMI*8 a.m. Saturdays on WILS-1320 AM in Lansing9 a.m. Saturdays on 92.1 Grand Haven's Favorite, WGHN-FM*10 a.m. Saturdays 95.3 WBCK-FM in Battle Creek*10 a.m. Saturdays on News/Talk/Sports 94.9 WSJM in Benton Harbor*4 p.m. Saturdays on WIOS "The Bay's Best!" - 1480 AM & 106.9 FM in Tawas / East Tawas*7 a.m. Sundays on the following Black Diamond Broadcasting stations:-WCFX - CFX Today's Hits (95.3) in Mt. Randy interviews Micah Johnson of 8020 REI about the current Indianapolis real estate market. Micah and 8020 REI specialize in helping real estate entrepreneurs close more deals without spending more money. Micah helps teach proven strategies of how to maximize your return on investment. One aspect of increasing ROI has to do with follow up. Many real estate entrepreneurs struggle with doing follow up well.Micah makes clear that there are good deals out there if you know how to get them. It's not just about the number of leads, but focusing on the right leads is more important. And above all, the most important thing to remember when trying to do a deal is "It's the People, not the Place."If you're trying to find more deals in Indianapolis, focus first on the people in their complicated situations, and learn how to solve their issues. The place is really very secondary. When you do that, you'll understand how to follow-up much more easily.0:00 Intro1:19 8020 REI Helps Investor be more Intentional about their deals. “Can an astronaut be black?” is a question retired Major League Baseball player Michah Johnson's nephew asked him one day. From that question Aku NFT was created. Aku is one of the world's first digital explorers, which “proves that no obstacle is too large,” according to its website. In just a year since its creation, Aku has become the first NFT to be optioned for film and TV.Aku's creator, Johnson, and The SpringHill Company Chief Marketing Officer Paul Rivera sit and discuss how Johnson got started in art but also how he was able to transfer that skill into the Web3 space. The panel occurred on Friday June 10, 2022, the second day of CoinDesk's Consensus 2022 festival in Austin Texas.Editing and post-production for this episode was done by Nia Freeman and our executive producer is Jared Schwartz.See Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.
In less than a week, AI-powered rapper FN Meka became the first virtual rapper signed to a major label and then released by one. Capitol Records dropped the virtual act for being a complete caricature of black culture — glorifying police brutality in lyrics, dropping the n-word, and other cringey behaviors. However, FN Meka's utter failure shouldn't be a write off for ALL virtual characters. In fact, a prime example of how to do it right is Aku.Aku was created by Micah Johnson — a former MLB player and now a full-fledged artist, both in the virtual and real world. The kid character is a black astronaut, which was inspired by Micah's four-year-old nephew asking his mother, “can astronauts be black?” Unlike FN Meka, Aku is a vehicle to promote what one artist wants to see in the world. A symbol or hero for a better tomorrow. This week, I'm running back an interview I did with Micah in 2021. It was done shortly after Micah first released the character as an NFT collection, selling $2 million right off the bat. And no, this was not just a FOMO-fueled drop amid the NFT crazy. Aku has lived on since then, and only a few weeks ago, the lifestyle fashion label Paper Plans announced a snapback collab with the Aku character. This comes on top of prior partnerships with major brands like Puma and Billionaire Boys Club, plus Aku appearing on the cover of Time Magazine.Unlike FN Meka, the creation and intention behind Aku is an uplifting story.Listen: Apple Podcasts | Spotify | SoundCloud | Stitcher | Overcast | Amazon | Google Podcasts | Pocket Casts | RSSHost: Dan Runcie, @RuncieDan, trapital.coGuests: Micah Johnson, @Micah_Johnson3 Links:Aku | Micah Johnson's character to inspire kids to dream without limits Sponsors: MoonPay is the leader in web3 infrastructure.
