It's been CHAOS in the streets this week with Xander Bogaerts rumors leaking left and right, so we got our pal Coley Mick on the pod to make heads or tails of it all. The front office has reportedly been texting NONSTOP, even during Thanksgiving dinner. Good to hear they didn't shut their phones off during the heigh of free agency. Peter Gammons tweeted that Xander had “severed ties” with the Red Sox earlier this week which threw Twitter into an absolute frenzy. Thankfully many people know this not to be the case and we were able to get some level-headed confirmation that the Red Sox are still atop of the leaderboard among teams' chances to sign Bogaerts. We're taking a look at other free agent options for the Red Sox that could make sense in addition to Xander. Jared poses a question to Tyler asking him if he would still ride with Chaim Bloom if Xander signs elsewhere for a reasonable amount of money. Jared cooks up a Christian Yelich to Boston trade scenario and texts Yeli to get his thoughts. We call Chris Cotillo and he provides no value per usual. Coley and Jared also fight with Tyler about a player that they see as a superstar, but he does not. Thankfully, we kept this one under four hours for Pat Light. Enjoy! Despite a thrilling come-from-behind win over the Diamondbacks in walk-off fashion, the Brewers only got to enjoy it for about 10 minutes as the Phillies defeated the Astros to officially clinch a wild card spot. It's rather ironic that the Brewers get on track with another late-inning rally - the very tactic that escaped them for most of the second half. Now the Brewers are just two days away from the offseason. Dom (@Dom_Cotroneo) reacts to the game and the season in general. We hear the comments from the clubhouse after the game as well and Christian Yelich was very candid assessing the season for the Crew. We also compile a few items from the wish list on twitter for what the Brewers need in 2023: average? power? pitching? extensions? A lot to cover for the day the Brewers were eliminated. The San Francisco Giants added another key prospect from the 2018 Christian Yelich trade. Lewis Brinson, the centerpiece of that deal, was acquired by the Giants yesterday in a trade with the Houston Astros. Brinson was immediately added to the 40-man roster and called up to the major leagues. Now that he's on the 40-man, he is under club control for three seasons via arbitration. If he has a good September and/or Spring Training, he could certainly be on the 2023 team. In other words, Brinson is auditioning for the Giants from here on out. What Giants on expiring deals will be back next year? Farhan Zaidi said on KNBR yesterday that there's interest in bringing back Joc Pederson. If Pederson is retained by the Giants, that would seemingly have a ripple effect in that it could eliminate another platoon. The Giants clearly need more everyday players, and Joc Pederson is a strict platoon player. Wilmer Flores is another Giants player who could/should be brought back, and the most important player might be Carlos Rodón. Who's the most surprising current Giants player who might not be back next year? The answer is probably Mike Yastrzemski or LaMonte Wade Jr. It hasn't been a good year for either Giants lefty, and Wade in particular is probably running out of chances. Both are platoon players, and especially if Joc Pederson is re-signed it might mean at least one of those two will not be on the 2023 roster. Honest assessments of Giants manager Gabe Kapler and president of baseball operations Farhan Zaidi are also discussed on today's show. TRUMP IS REALLY, REALLY, SCREWED A BLOCK (1:50) SPECIAL COMMENT: A Justice Department photo shows at least five bright yellow TOP SECRET/SCI files strewn on a gaudy carpet. Some pictures are worth a thousand words - this mind-blowing one looks like it's worth 10 to 20 in a Supermax for Trump. The DOJ answer to Trump's ill-conceived "Special Master" suit is released early Wednesday morning and in it, Trump destroys his own defense that he "declassified" all the documents, as government agents swear Trump did NOT assert Executive Privilege over any of the documents he turned over in June, nor did he claim any of them had been declassified. There are countless lesser Trump self-destructions in the DOJ filing that add up to Obstruction of Justice, Concealing Classified Documents, and Falsely Sworn Documents - and all this is BEFORE WE EVEN KNOW FOR SURE WHAT'S IN THE DOCUMENTS. (7:20) And this may not even be the worst news of the day for Trump. President Biden is clearly on offense, slamming Lindsey Graham for his "riots in the streets" promise. (8:06) Graham actually makes it worse: he goes back on Fox and flatly lies, and denies he said what he said on Fox two nights earlier (10:33) Biden's willingness to call out Republicans normalizes the terms he uses like "semi-fascism" and builds momentum for others to use them on a daily basis (14:20) To paraphrase "The Manchurian Candidate": "Are they saying ARE there any fascists in the Republican Party? Of course not! They're saying HOW MANY fascists are there in the Republican Party!" (14:20) Trump meanwhile goes full QAnon, posting direct messages from the imaginary figure and all but calling for another coup to be led by people who believe prophesy tells them to participate (17:15) But overarching all of it is that one photo: glowing TOP SECRET/SCI files on a carpet like so many baseball cards. B BLOCK (19:42) EVERY DOG HAS ITS DAY: Hadley (20:57) POSTSCRIPTS TO THE NEWS: Gorbachev dies just before Putin finishes undoing all his work. How will your town look under 10 inches of melted glacial water? How come the dirty words on the GOP headquarters were carefully sprayed AROUND the Republican logo? (23:32) IN SPORTS: Sweden warns its players: don't go to Russia. Why are we letting Russians play in the NHL? And sports blogger Clay Travis actually compares vaccine-refuseniks Aaron Rodgers, Kyrie Irving and Novak Djokovic to Muhammad Ali's refusal to be inducted into the military: "Covid is our modern era Vietnam," says the dumbest man on the planet (29:47) THE WORST PERSONS IN THE WORLD: Ted Cruz, Joe Rogan, and Herschel Walker - proudly insisting "My bike is not bent" compete for the honors. C BLOCK (34:43) THINGS I PROMISED NOT TO TELL: It's the birthday of the late Daniel Schorr, the last man hired by Ed Murrow at CBS News, a proud member of Richard Nixon's enemies list, and my colleague at CNN 40 years ago. The Brewers offense had trouble solving Gonsolin's splitter all night as he collected eight strikeouts in his MLB-leading 15th win of the season. The only "big" hit came off the bat of Christian Yelich after Gonsolin had exited. The Crew also had two men aboard in the ninth vs Craig Kimbrel but ultimately couldn't scrape anything across. Dom (@Dom_Cotroneo) gives a standings update, assesses Lauer's performance, and takes a quick scope through the Brewers offense to find ways to be more consistent for the final seven weeks of the season. "This game had everything," as the Brewers leveled the series with the Dodgers at a game apiece thanks to an 11-inning thriller on Tuesday night. Victor Caratini's bloop single into right-center scored two and won it for the Brew Crew, but the real story on the play was the perfect read and aggressive base running by Hunter Renfroe who slid in ahead of a Mookie Betts throw to win it. Dom (@Dom_Cotroneo) breaks down all of the intricacies within the mad dash by Renfroe, some of the epic defense we saw in this game, and how important this was for the bullpen as well as Christian Yelich. Monday hit the Brewers harder than they hit the Dodgers as they fell 4-0 at American Family Field in the first game of the series with the MLB-leading Dodgers. They could only muster four hits in an abysmal display at the plate with runners in scoring position in the defeat. It just shows the razor's edge when playing truly elite teams like the Dodgers that you can't be a tiny bit "off" against a team of their caliber. Dom reacts to an odd Freddy Peralta start and dives into the numbers with him, Christian Yelich, and Willy Adames. There wasn't a lot of juice in the ballpark last night, but it will be on Brandon Woodruff tonight, Dodger-killer Eric Lauer tomorrow, and Corbin Burnes on Thursday to keep the Crew in the fight. Also, Dom opens the show revealing his new role with WTMJ 620 AM The Home of the Brewers as the Brewers Extra Innings host - the flagship's postgame call-in show. Thanks to some high-wire acts, the Brewers were able to win half their games last week, but Milwaukee also couldn't pick up ground in the National League Central. A check-in with a struggling Christian Yelich and a lightly-used Keston Hiura. Another glance at the infamous Josh Hader trade, including the revelation that Taylor Rogers came to Milwaukee with an injury. Has Craig Counsell changed the way he manages bullpens over time? Brewers reporter Curt Hogg and host JR Radcliffe throw out a bunch of names -- some more seriously than others -- with the trade deadline right around the corner. Will the Milwaukee Brewers make a move? Does it change anything now that Freddy Peralta's health outlook has taken a positive turn and the offense has found a groove? Among the topics: Christian Yelich truly seems to have discovered something atop the lineup, Hunter Renfroe on fire, Devin Williams and his scoreless streak, Kolten Wong's shaky defense, Jackson Chourio arriving in Wisconsin and the players Milwaukee could conceivably offer in a trade. Then, JR chats with Mike Caldwell (51:00), who won two World Series games for the 1982 Brewers, a team commemorating its 40th anniversary at American Family Field on Friday. Caldwell discusses his recollections from that season, his stellar 1978 campaign, an unforgettable 1979 brawl and his reputation as a Yankee Killer.
