On June 2, 2025, the Milwaukee Brewers edged out the Cincinnati Reds 3-2 in Game 1 of their series at Great American Ball Park, extending their winning streak to eight games, the longest since August 2023. The Brewers' victory was powered by Christian Yelich's heroics and a resilient pitching effort, while the Reds struggled to capitalize on early momentum. Yelich, fresh off being named National League Player of the Week, delivered the decisive blow with a 417-foot solo home run in the third inning off Reds starter Brady Singer (6-4, 4.60 ERA). The full-count slider, crushed to straightaway center, gave Milwaukee a 3-2 lead they wouldn't relinquish. Yelich's hot streak continued, as he's now batting .450 over a nine-game hitting streak, with six homers and 14 RBIs. Sal Frelick also contributed, going 2-for-4, bolstering the Brewers' offense. The Reds struck first, scoring two runs in the opening inning against Brewers starter Aaron Civale (1-1, 6.00 ERA). However, Civale settled down, pitching 5 1/3 innings, allowing just those two runs while striking out five. His recovery was critical, especially after missing nearly two months with a strained left hamstring. The Brewers' bullpen, a strength all season, sealed the deal. Rob Zastryzny, acquired from the Yankees in May, was pivotal in the sixth, striking out Jose Trevino and inducing a groundout from Santiago Espinal with runners on base. Trevor Megill closed the game with a perfect ninth, earning his 12th save in 13 chances. For Cincinnati, the loss highlighted ongoing offensive struggles. Despite the early lead, the Reds managed only a few hits after the first, with Singer's six innings undermined by Yelich's homer. The Reds' inability to convert opportunities, like the sixth-inning threat, underscored their 29-31 record and inconsistent play at home (14-14). The game, played before a lively Cincinnati crowd with temperatures at 76°F, showcased Milwaukee's depth and resilience. With Freddy Peralta (5-3, 2.77 ERA) set to face Hunter Greene (4-3, 2.63 ERA) in Game 2, the Brewers aim to keep their streak alive. Meanwhile, the Reds, desperate to snap out of their funk, face an uphill battle in this series.

The Milwaukee Brewers came into the week having not swept any series this year, and now they've swept them back-to-back. Including two walk-off wins, an eight-run inning, a series of strong individual hitting performances, Milwaukee took down Boston at home and then cleaned up against the best team in the National League, Philadelphia. Brewers reporter Todd Rosiak and host JR Radcliffe discuss how real it is, the somewhat concerning injury to Christian Yelich, the decision to cut ties with Tyler Alexander, the back-to-back rough starts from Freddy Peralta, the excellence of Rhys Hoskins and the ascendance of Caleb Durbin. In Three Up Three Down (25:00), they discuss big Sal Frelick moments, Chad Patrick and Quinn Priester and the walk-off grand slam by Yelich. Remembrew When looks back at another memorable walk-off granny (40:10) against Boston and Todd's Take of the Week looks at the big homestand ahead (46:15). Then, JR sits down with Brewers reliever Abner Uribe (49:30), discussing his origins with the Brewers, his celebrations and more. That's followed by a conversation with USA TODAY sports columnist Bob Nightengale (55:15) to discuss the viability of Brewers owner Mark Attansio as a candidate for baseball commissioner, looming labor strife in the league and how the Brewers are regarded nationally. Love these short weeks! Took an extra day off yesterday to go to Milwaukee on Memorial Day for the Brewers/Red Sox game and now I've got three short days of work before the weekend pops back up. Hope you made the most of your holiday weekend. In the news this morning, the Winona County Sheriff's office is looking for information on a few shootings in the Rollingstone area this weekend, Southwest Airlines is now going to be charging for checked baggage, President Trump is pardoning the Chrisleys, a judge in Wisconsin is getting suspended without pay for misconduct, and an update on the escaped inmates in Louisiana. In sports, the Brewers got a walk-off grand slam from Yelich last night, the Pacers beat the Knicks to push them to the brink in the NBA's Eastern Conference finals, and in hockey, the Oilers are one win away from the Stanley Cup finals after beating Dallas again last night. Elsewhere in sports, Terry Bradshaw didn't have anything positive to say about Aaron Rodgers potentially signing with the Steelers, Caitlin Clark is going to miss some time with an injury, Mary Lou Retton got busted for DUI, EA Sports unveiled the cover of it's upcoming College Football game, and the latest on Liverpool parade crash. We let you know what's on TV tonight, and Brian recapped his trip to Milwaukee. A guy is attempting to sail around the world with his cat, it's "National Hamburger Day", so we talked about some of the deals you can take advantage of, and a list of the most dangerous foods in your fridge at this very moment! ICYMI, legendary musician Rick Derringer passed away yesterday at the age of 77. How many days in a month do you truly feel "healthy"? The average answer may surprise you. Plus, the newest "hot-ticket" collector card, a list of rock stars who almost died on-stage, and during today's edition of "Bad News with Happy Music", we had stories about a guy who got arrested for drawing a crosswalk on a busy street, a #FloridaMan that was high on meth…got attacked by a gator…and shot to death by the cops, a #FloridaWoman who stabbed a 12 year-old girl and left her for dead, a guy who had a serious case of road rage, and a naked woman who threw bottles of booze at people in a hotel.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

They assemble a shortlist of Christian Yelich, Ben Sheets, Sterling Sharpe and Don Majkowski. Is Jim too down on Yelich's performance this season (before suffering another season-ending back injury...)? Evan Cohen of Unsportsmanlike joins Jim Rutledge and Alex Gravatt to talk Packers-Vikings and Aaron Jones' return to Green Bay. First, they discuss the news of Derek Rose's retirement earlier this morning and today's poll question: who is the Derek Rose of Wisconsin sports (a great young player whose career was derailed by injury)? Plus, how badly did Alex Gravatt misrepresent Jim's "fair" poll question about who Badger Football fans would want as the team's head coach right now. Did Jim poke the Bear in the Don by even asking the question, and should he be thinking G for even putting him on Barry's radar? They also talk with Evan about how Packers fans might welcome back Aaron Jones to Lambeau Field, and was the Packers signing Josh Jacobs the Wisconsin version of what the Cubs did by hiring Craig Counsell to replace David Ross?? The High Life Dive Bar of the Week is Cahoot's Bar in Verona, but Chad in Fitchburg and Primetime team up to defend Christian Yelich's honor against Jim!

Mets sweep Subway Series; Brewers lose Yelich

MLB Morning Lineup Podcast

The Mets blasted five homers to secure their first Subway Series sweep since 2013, the Brewers beat the Cubs but lost Christian Yelich to a potentially season-ending back injury, and the upstart Red Sox rewarded manager Alex Cora with a three-year extension. On today's episode... Act I: THE BIG STORIES: (0:40-6:22) Something about the Subway Series seems to bring out the best in Francisco Lindor, who accounted for two of the Mets' five homers as they routed the Yankees to complete their first season sweep over their crosstown rival since 2013. Christian Yelich, the National League's leading hitter, could be shelved for a while after landing on the injured list with a recurring back injury. The timetable for his return is unclear, but he will see a spinal specialist today and season-ending surgery is among the possibilities for the Brewers All-Star. That would be a devastating blow for a Milwaukee team that has exceeded expectations and holds a 6-game lead atop the NL Central. Boston manager Alex Cora received a three-year extension after leading his team back into contention, but the Red Sox still have plenty of room to improve, and perhaps some pitching to acquire at the Trade Deadline, after they gave up 20 runs against the Rockies on Wednesday, their fifth loss in their last six games.   Act II: WHIPAROUND: (6:22-8:08) The Diamondbacks scored five runs in the ninth to steal the finale -- and series -- in Kansas City. The Padres won their fourth straight by drubbing the Nationals and could be poised to swing a big trade at the Deadline. The Astros' 8-1 win over the A's and the Angels' 2-1 win over the Mariners gave Houston a 1-game lead over Seattle in the AL West. The Pirates blanked the Cardinals to win the series and continue their climb up the NL Wild Card standings. Elly De La Cruz notched his 50th and 51st stolen bases in the Reds' win over the Braves.   Act III: LOOKING AHEAD: (8:08-9:18) Dodgers legend Clayton Kershaw makes his season debut today after a long recovery from offseason shoulder surgery. The Mets open a home series against the Braves with a chance to usurp their division rival for the top spot in the NL Wild Card standings.
