Craig Sandlin and Cory Phillips discuss the Milwaukee Brewers extending their franchise-record winning streak to 14 games, defeating the Cincinnati Reds 6-5 in a thrilling 11-inning contest at Great American Ball Park. The Reds took an early 2-0 lead in the first with home runs from Spencer Steer and Noelvi Marte off Brewers starter Quinn Priester. Milwaukee responded, tying the game in the fourth on Christian Yelich's single and Sal Frelick's sacrifice fly. The Reds surged ahead 4-2 in the sixth with Ke'Bryan Hayes' solo homer and an error-aided run. The Brewers rallied in the ninth, tying it at 4-4 with William Contreras' single and Brice Turang's sacrifice fly. In the 10th, Jackson Chourio's solo homer off Joe La Sorsa gave Milwaukee a 5-4 lead. Trevor Megill secured his 30th save, despite a Reds threat. Yelich went 2-for-4, continuing his hot streak. Reds starter Zack Littell pitched six innings, allowing two runs, but defensive errors by Gavin Lux and T.J. Friedl proved costly. The Reds, now 64-60, fell further in the NL Wild Card race, while the Brewers improved to 78-44, solidifying their NL Central lead.

On June 2, 2025, the Milwaukee Brewers edged out the Cincinnati Reds 3-2 in Game 1 of their series at Great American Ball Park, extending their winning streak to eight games, the longest since August 2023. The Brewers' victory was powered by Christian Yelich's heroics and a resilient pitching effort, while the Reds struggled to capitalize on early momentum. Yelich, fresh off being named National League Player of the Week, delivered the decisive blow with a 417-foot solo home run in the third inning off Reds starter Brady Singer (6-4, 4.60 ERA). The full-count slider, crushed to straightaway center, gave Milwaukee a 3-2 lead they wouldn't relinquish. Yelich's hot streak continued, as he's now batting .450 over a nine-game hitting streak, with six homers and 14 RBIs. Sal Frelick also contributed, going 2-for-4, bolstering the Brewers' offense. The Reds struck first, scoring two runs in the opening inning against Brewers starter Aaron Civale (1-1, 6.00 ERA). However, Civale settled down, pitching 5 1/3 innings, allowing just those two runs while striking out five. His recovery was critical, especially after missing nearly two months with a strained left hamstring. The Brewers' bullpen, a strength all season, sealed the deal. Rob Zastryzny, acquired from the Yankees in May, was pivotal in the sixth, striking out Jose Trevino and inducing a groundout from Santiago Espinal with runners on base. Trevor Megill closed the game with a perfect ninth, earning his 12th save in 13 chances. For Cincinnati, the loss highlighted ongoing offensive struggles. Despite the early lead, the Reds managed only a few hits after the first, with Singer's six innings undermined by Yelich's homer. The Reds' inability to convert opportunities, like the sixth-inning threat, underscored their 29-31 record and inconsistent play at home (14-14). The game, played before a lively Cincinnati crowd with temperatures at 76°F, showcased Milwaukee's depth and resilience. Love these short weeks! Took an extra day off yesterday to go to Milwaukee on Memorial Day for the Brewers/Red Sox game and now I've got three short days of work before the weekend pops back up. Hope you made the most of your holiday weekend. In the news this morning, the Winona County Sheriff's office is looking for information on a few shootings in the Rollingstone area this weekend, Southwest Airlines is now going to be charging for checked baggage, President Trump is pardoning the Chrisleys, a judge in Wisconsin is getting suspended without pay for misconduct, and an update on the escaped inmates in Louisiana. In sports, the Brewers got a walk-off grand slam from Yelich last night, the Pacers beat the Knicks to push them to the brink in the NBA's Eastern Conference finals, and in hockey, the Oilers are one win away from the Stanley Cup finals after beating Dallas again last night. Elsewhere in sports, Terry Bradshaw didn't have anything positive to say about Aaron Rodgers potentially signing with the Steelers, Caitlin Clark is going to miss some time with an injury, Mary Lou Retton got busted for DUI, EA Sports unveiled the cover of it's upcoming College Football game, and the latest on Liverpool parade crash.
