In this episode of the podcast, we reflect on our recent experiences and interviews, discussing the evolving landscape of education. We explore themes of hope for the future of education, the importance of inclusion and equity, and the role of technology in bridging gaps. The conversation emphasises the need for a collective vision and the importance of listening to student voices in shaping educational practices. We discuss the importance of sustainability in education technology, the need for critical thinking in curricula, and the challenges posed by an abundance of information. We cover the necessity of balancing knowledge acquisition with critical thinking skills, the significance of safeguarding students' futures, and the concept of digital ecosystems in transforming education. Again, it highlights the need for a holistic approach to education that considers cultural values and the context of learning.Chapters00:00 Introduction and Personal Updates05:01 Reflections on Recent Interviews11:00 Hope for Education: A Collective Vision16:04 Inclusion and Equity in Education20:00 Technology's Role in Bridging Gaps22:27 Sustainability in Education Technology23:11 The Role of Critical Thinking in Curriculum24:46 The Importance of Contextual Knowledge30:21 Navigating Information Abundance35:55 Balancing Knowledge and Critical Thinking40:01 Safeguarding Futures in Education41:41 Digital Ecosystems in Education TransformationThanks so much for joining us again for another episode - we appreciate you.Ben & Steve xChampioning those who are making the future of education a reality.Follow us on XFollow us on LinkedInCheck out all about EdufuturistsWant to sponsor future episodes or get involved with the Edufuturists work?Get in touchGet your tickets for Edufuturists Uprising 2025

In the finale to our Dream Big series at Fusion Christian Church, we look at how we can expand the kingdom of God. As we celebrate our Missions Sunday, Pastor Zac interviews missionaries from both local and global ministries supported by Fusion Christian Church. We have so many ministries to get involved with, so pray about how you can get involved with either your time or your giving. Evan and Pam - YWAM in JapanOur time starts with a video update from Evan and Pam in Japan. They update the church on what they have been doing for the last year. From disaster relief and festival outreach to college ministry and team coordination, the couple have been busy. On top of all the missions work, they introduce the newest addition to their family: baby Olive. Continue to pray for the work they do bringing the gospel to Sendai, Japan.Project Touch - Temecula ValleyProject Touch is one of Fusion Christian Church's oldest ministry partners. They are a homeless outreach program that attempts to get people back on their feet. Anne, a longtime friend of the church, heads up the program and gives some updates on the ministry along with a new building project.Birth Choice - Temecula ValleyBirth Choice is a local pregnancy resource center. They strive to save babies from abortion by providing resources and assistance to parents in need of help. Hear from Jessica as she explains more about the ministry, shares an encouraging story, and tells us how to get involved. Circle of Care - Temecula ValleyChuck and Terri run Circle of Care, a local foodbank that regularly provides groceries to hundreds of struggling families in the area. Hear from them as they describe the unique challenges and blessings of a relational ministry like theirs. They also describe some of the needs they have, so if it is on your heart and within your ability to fill a need, reach out to us to get connected.Olive Crest/Strong Families - Riverside CountyStrong Families is a ministry underneath the Olive Crest umbrella that seeks to provide short-term care for children in need. This is a hospitality ministry that steps in to offer support to families who have nowhere else to turn. Addison describes the sort of situation that Strong Families is able to help with and how you can help.Student Venture - Temecula ValleyMonty and Karen head up Student Venture, a program which works within the school system to reach 6th-12th grade students. The program seeks to win kids to Christ, build them up, and send them out to do the same again. Monty describes the unique way that Student Venture is able to connect with students and change lives. Camino de Vida - Lima, PeruNext, we receive a video update from Nick Balcombe in Peru. Theirs is another ministry that Fusion Christian Church has supported for a very long time. Camino de Vida (Way of Life) church in Lima is a massive church that reaches thousands of people throughout Peru. Hear from Nick and continue to pray for their success in preaching the gospel.World Mission Adventure - InternationalMark and Debbie Blum are the founders of World Mission Adventure and longtime friends of Pastor Zac and his wife Laura. They work to set up mission trips and send people to many places around the world. They believe that going on a mission trip will provide help in foreign countries and change the perspective of Christians who go.Casa Esperanza - Ensenada, MexicoCasa Esperanza began as a shelter for women and children and has now expanded their ministry to offer schooling to the children there. Gabriel and Gabbi offer the sincerest thanks for the support we've given and describe the unique ministry challenges they face.

"Dream Big" is our series to kick off 2025 at Fusion Christian Church where we look to set godly goals. In this message, Pastor Zac lays out three biblical goals which we should all set for ourselves.Make it Your Goal to Grow Closer to GodThe first of our three goals is to grow closer to God. If you don't aim at it, you won't hit it! Aim to grow closer to God and make an effort to do so. God created you, so his plan for your life is better than yours. Getting closer to God gets you where you need to go. Growing with him also leads to a life of significance. Here are several ways you can grow closer to God:-Turn from sin and turn toward God.-Read and memorize your bible-Never stop praying-Be a faithful member of God's houseMake it Your Goal to Love Your Friends and Family MoreJust as with God, you need to put effort into your relationships with other people if you want them to succeed. You must aim at better relationships by putting in the effort! Here are a few ways to improve your relationships:-Tell your friends and family you love them and why they matter-Set punch-out and punch-in times (Make time for the people you care about!)-Take care of yourself physically and spiritually-Get your finances in order and be generous (Nobody likes a moocher!)Make it Your Goal to Excel at Your WorkIn all things, Christians are called to work "as unto the Lord." The work that you do, whether good or ill, is a reflection of your character. As a Christian, your character is an example of Christ. Decide that you are going to do good work so that you represent Christ well.
"Dream Big" is our series to kick off 2025 at Fusion Christian Church where we look to set godly goals. In this message, Pastor Zac explains the vision of our church and the simple truth behind our mission statement: Love God, Love Others, Tell Everyone. To fulfill a big vision, we must build on a godly foundation. If God is not the cornerstone of the church, we may as well quit building. If God does not direct the building, the building will fail. We must continually work to ground our church in God and his word. With that said, what is the purpose of our church? Why do we exist as a church? We exist to Love God.The first and greatest commandment is to love God, and we can show our love for God in three major ways. First, by loving Christ the Son. Christ is the image of the invisible God, and if we do not love Christ, we do not love God. Second, we love God by loving and obeying his word. If we love God, we should love to read what he has written for us. To take it a step further: we should love to live out the commands he has given us as well. Third, we show our love for God by loving prayer. It does not make sense to say we love someone if we never speak to them. Prayer is our way to communicate with God, and if we love God then we should love prayer. We exist to Love Others. This is the second greatest commandment: to love your neighbor as yourself. At Fusion Christian Church, we believe that the duty of all Christians is to love other people. How can we love others? One of the best ways is by serving them. If we are willing to serve others and work for their good, we demonstrate our love for them. On a personal level, we can also show our love for others by expressing care and interest in them. Simply getting to know people is essential for knowing how to love them better. We exist to Tell Everyone the good news about Jesus. The most important way to love someone is to tell them the gospel. In fact, the most loving thing anyone can do for another is to tell them about Jesus Christ. Salvation is found in no other name than the name Jesus, and we, Christians, must share that name wherever we go. How can you share the gospel with those around you this year?

In the book of Revelation, Christ famously warns the Church about the Synagogue of Satan — yet the identity of this group has been hidden behind half-truths and seductive conspiracies. When we consider the full breadth of history and take the bible as a narrative of God's people among a counterfeit system of worship, the truth about the Synagogue of Satan becomes clear, poignant and undeniable. From Babylon to Rome and from ancient times to modern day, there is nothing new under the sun. What does it mean to be thankful? Where does thankfulness come from? And, how does having a heart of thanksgiving impact our friendships, our other relationships, and our lives? I was introduced to the Theragun (percussive vibrational product) when I was filming NBC STRONG back in 2015 and it about saved my life. Seriously. I got introduced to Theragun and fell in love with it. Where was the company at then? 9-years later, tell us about where Therabody is at NOW? What's your vision of Therabody for the next 3-5 years? What are 5-7 of your TOP LESSONS learned as an entrepreneur? If there is one thing you could do over, what is it? Managing growth. Did you grow too slow…too fast. Looking back, what did you DO WELL…what didn't you do so well? Where do you see the brick & mortar “Recovery & Wellness” space going? You personally and Therabody have been playing a BIG PART in the “Recovery” pillar of the IMPACT-X Performance fitness & coaching franchise. We are really excited about this relationship. Tell our listeners what we are doing in that “Recovery” space and what most excites you about this relationship? PERSONAL: You have had one heckuva entrepreneurial journey. I'm sure it has taken its toll in some areas of your life. What has been the hardest part of it all? What are 3-5 of your TOP HABITS as a busy professional that keep you sane. What is your “divine uniqueness” or your “super power”? What's something that you do that no one knows that helps you be YOU. Your brother. You lost him several years back. How did you get through that most difficult period of your life? What one thing am I NOT asking you that you wish I did. Legacy. Life a life worth telling a story about…what's your story? Your life. Your legacy. What do you want them to say about your life someday… WOW. What an episode. The wisdom and “war-scars” behind Dr Jason is evident. September 27, 2024 ~ A member of Shield's Franchise Restaurants Paul Andoni talks with Kevin about the part food will be playing during this weekend's big sports games.
We get assigned a lot of roles in life depending on how we look, how tall we are, which family we're born in to... Sometimes living up to these roles can be a total breeze, but other times can be an incredibly daunting, terrifying task, and overcoming these isn't in any way straightforward. And so it's always really affirming when I get the chance to sit down and talk to someone who is on the other side of all of that and has taken the time to figure themselves out and be clear on what they want and what they don't, who they are and who they're not... (I'm making this person sound a bit like the Dalai Lama here). This week's guest is Matte Namer from the band The FMs. Matte joined me to talk about The Bushwick Boat, which was an actual boat that was moored in Brooklyn, New York City, and became a party boat for over a decade. Or, as Matte described it, 'the boat with no rules'. But, this conversation is about a lot more than a big ol' boat where people partied. After all, this is Lost Spaces, the podcast about how spaces and access to community shape who we are and who we become! As well as the boat we talk about navigating family dynamics, embracing your kinkiness and surviving your 20s. Thoughts on the episode? Let us know. This is the first conversation that I had with Dr Richard Hodge, and it's the fourth podcast that I've published. That's because after we talked, Richard sent me an email basically saying, "Hey, we covered some pretty advanced stuff, but I think we need to really break it down for folks."So the last three conversations with Richard have been reverse engineering our way to this conversation, the culmination (so far). This is the conversation about how to make a difference in the world. How to use systems thinking, how to approach problems and issues holistically. How to listen to up-until-now marginalized voices and community. And how to still be how to be a small, insignificant human beings and still look at the world and know that there's "no problem too big."I hope you enjoy our conversation, and that you're inspired to lend your mind, spirit, and shoulder to the wheel of Better.LinksDrRichardHodge.comRory Sutherland's TED TalkThe Memory Code: Unlocking the Secrets of the Lives of the Ancients and the Power of the Human Mind, by Kelly LynneUnlocking the Emotional Brain, 2nd Edition, by Bruce Ecker, Robin Ticic, and Laurel HulleyRight Story, Wrong Story, by Tyson YunkaportaAntifragile, by Nassim Nicholas TalebAwakening from the Meaning Crisis (Video series by John Vervaeke on the Four Ways of Knowing)The Greatest Night in Pop (Netflix documentary on the making of "We Are the World" in 1985)Click to subscribe to the Mindset Mastery Memo.Support the show

Thoughts on the episode? Let us know.In this conversation, the brilliant Dr. Richard Hodge (aren't you glad you live in a universe that includes him?) introduces the four quadrant model as a way of clarifying and codifying our approach to complex problems. Before we get into it, I wanna say: This is high-level stuff. It's meaty (ok, seitan-y) and will take a while for most folks to digest. (I'm still working on it after being introduced to Richard's work over 3 months ago.)And it's the real deal — a ninja path to high level impact at scale in a TUNA world.(TUNA, which we learn about in this episode, stands for Turbulent, Uncertain, Novel, and Ambiguous. Richard likes it better than VUCA, and now I do too.)The four quadrants are:WHY (drives meaning)HOW (drives connection)WHAT (what we're going to do)IF (impact if implemented)The beauty is, we can apply this process to both large-scale organizational problems and personal challenges. The process is question-based.First, we ask why to uncover meaning and values. Then we explore how to build connections between people, nodes of the system, and outside forces. We inquire into what we're going to do, diving into the oft-overlooked details of strategy, operations, and governance. (Yes, this is complex, but you can apply it to your personal goals and challenges, like improving your diet or starting a journaling habit or upgrading how you communicate with work colleagues and loved ones.)Then we look at the projected consequences and outcomes, and ask if they match our initial goals and values. We go deep here, covering concepts like identity and policy framework. And I realize this isn't your usual podcast-while-taking-a-walk episode. In fact, I highly recommend you set aside time and space to watch the video — there's a lot of valuable white-boarding, which will make the whole thing way more understandable. And I don't want the complexity to obscure the big idea here: that every person has a role to play in making the world a better place. By understanding their place in the larger system, they have exponentially more power to contribute to positive change.LinksDrRichardHodge.comSir Ken Robinson's TED Talk: "Do Schools Kill Creativity?"Man's Search for Meaning, by Viktor FranklWalking Well, by Michael Gelb and Bruce FertmanClick to subscribe to the Mindset Mastery Memo.Support the Show.

Thoughts on the episode? Let us know. What can we learn from indigenous knowledge systems about how to navigate and transform our world? My guest, Dr Richard Hodge, points out several aspects of Aboriginal culture that can help us act effectively and with heart and wisdom in a world full of problems. To guide us in a complex world, we need touchstones of value. For many indigenous peoples, that's the function of totems and totemic beings: kangaroo, echidna, wallaby, and so on.Counterintuitively, seeing the world through a totemic perspective offers greater clarity than how we often view it, through the lens of our limited egoic state, entangled with fight-or-flight fancies that superimpose themselves over reality. Our perception colors our interpretation of the world. The Western mindset sees the world as a number of separate objects, ourselves among them. Which means our prime directive is always control and domination of the "other" — whether it be nature, or the weather, or animals, or other people.Shifting to an indigenous way of seeing creates connection and opportunities for collaboration and synergies on a systems-level.And that's the level at which transformational change at scale becomes possible. With that foundation, Dr Hodge shares his Dragonfly Model of systemic, deep change. If you can, watch rather than just listen, because there are diagrams and models that can help you follow the concepts and the conversation.Enjoy our yarning, and please let us know what you think.LinksDrRichardHodge.comThomas Berry, "The Meadow Across the Creek"Stephanie Kelton, economistMariana Mazzucato, economistBertrand Russell, "In Praise of Idleness"Click to subscribe to the Mindset Mastery Memo.Support the Show.

Thoughts on the episode? Let us know.I'm particularly excited about this conversation. Dr. Richard Hodge is not just an expert; he's deeply inspirational. On his home page, he writes about two core beliefs:Each of us matters more than we think. We can do more than we think in the time we have on this Earth. Are you as jazzed as I am to unpack those beliefs? In our conversation, Richard speaks about his philosophies with a blend of humility and urgency, encapsulated by his forward mantra: “No problem too big.”This isn't our first conversation. We did one a couple of months ago, but Richard actually suggested we hold off on releasing it as it should be 'conversation number four'. He stressed the importance of laying a foundational framework first—a classic systems thinker approach! So, this episode is the first of four, culminating in our original chat.In today's episode, we explore topics ranging from the profound impact of value and relevance on our actions to the importance of doing no harm as we navigate an increasingly complex world. Richard introduces his engaging framework connecting value, relevance, and consequences, guiding us toward profound sustainable change. One aspect we delve into is the idea that individuals at any level can make a significant impact.Richard tells an insider story about the design and construction of Heathrow's Terminal 5 which illustrates how removing bureaucratic obstacles and embracing collaboration can lead to remarkable success. It's a shift from the reductionist, profit-driven models we've become accustomed to, spotlighting the importance of human-centric and life-centric designs.Look forward to exploring more of Richard's models, like the interplay between value, relevance, and consequences, in subsequent episodes. For now, I'll leave you with a new perspective, inspired by Richard, on finding worthiness in our actions and seeing the bigger picture in everything we do.LinksDrRichardHodge.comThinking in Systems, by Donella MeadowsKathryn Cormican Industry 5.0Click to subscribe to the Mindset Mastery Memo.Support the Show.

Richard Deming discovered music at an early age. He played drums. Like many, he thought it would be great to be in a band and play music for a living. Today Richard teaches at Yale where he also directs the creative writing program. Sometimes, you must take the other fork. The fact that Richards dream of playing drums for a living didn't pan out doesn't mean that he didn't excel in music, and he did play in a band, a really good band. As Richard tells his story, his interest in music is discussed, and he also talks about why he switched from music to writing. (We do discuss various music interests which is always fun.)Richard discusses loneliness and talks about being lonely at times himself. We discuss his latest book, This Exquisite Loneliness and look at loneliness a bit differently than one might expect. At an unprecedented rate, loneliness is moving around the globe—from self-isolating technology and political division to community decay and social fragmentation—and yet it is not a feeling to which we readily admit. It is stigmatized, freighted with shame and fear, and easy to dismiss as mere emotional neediness. But what if instead of shying away from loneliness, we embraced it as something we can learn from and as something that will draw us closer to one another? We talk about this as well. The Knicks were eliminated last night after losing to the Pacers at the Garden. The Knicks were just up against too many injuries and the Pacers shot at a record percentage. Boomer said the Knicks finally have a team and coach that's stable. Gio is very disappointed with how the season ended, but Boomer seems very positive about the future. Gio wonders how the Knicks will evaluate this season. Jerry is here for his first update and has all the sounds from the Knicks loss. The Timberwolves eliminated the Nuggets and will play Dallas next. The Yankees swept the White Sox this weekend after sweeping the Twins. The Mets lost a series to the Marlins and Edwin Diaz was terrible again, even in a non-save situation. And we heard Jim Nantz on the call as Xander Schauffele won the PGA Championship. In the final segment of the hour, we gave proper credit to the Pacers, but if the Knicks were close to healthy they would have won it.
