Hosts Mat Bradley-Tschirgi, Thrasher, Jersey Jason and special guest Marc with a C discuss Shock Treatment. Brad (Cliff De Young) and Janet (Jessica Harper) try to fix their rocky relationship by going on a game show. A cult classic sequel to The Rocky Horror Picture Show, this quirky musical has a muddled plot with great songs. Not as good as Rocky Horror Picture Show, but it's ahead of it's time. Twenty years of Marc with a C has led to this interview. Actually, it led to a lot of great music, meaningful connections, and wonderful memories. How did he do it? How does he do it? When did he do it? In the last two decades, that should be clear. And, a special bonus, this episode includes songs of his!
Orlando has a new city commissioner in District Six. Bakari Burns defeated Gary Siplin in a runoff election last week, a resounding win in a race that nevertheless saw only a few thousand votes cast. Burns may be new to politics but he grew up in the district and says he has his finger on the pulse of the big issues, including housing, transportation and infrastructure. Burns, who leads the non-profit Orange Blossom Family Health, tells Intersection he’ll spend the first few months of his term listening to residents and figuring out how to represent the needs of the entire district. Orlando Sentinel investigative reporter Jason Garcia has been reporting on how corporations are able to use Florida’s tax laws ...
Mat interviews Marc with a C on his new two disc compilation Maybe It'll Be Good: The Best of Marc with a C and his memoir of the same name. Hosts Mat Bradley-Tschirgi and William Thrasher discuss the 1931 Dracula film. Count Dracula (Bela Lugosi) goes to London to acquire some land. Dracula is based on the stage play and not the novel. It often feels a bit stiff and has a hard time improving on its excellent opening before Renfield and Dracula venture to London. Acting here is fine all around, but there's a leaden quality to the whole shebang. Mat and Thrasher discuss the ups and down of Disney+. We talk about Jonathan Richmond, Black Sabbath and what it's like existing as an analogue artist in a digital world. ** On this episode we are pulling out of pocket, but we are putting away product, as Marc Dottore from Dueling Ground Distillery likes to say. We get down to origin of Linkumpinch Bourbon which is his flagship spirit and find out the beginnings of Dueling Ground Distillery. Marc has a fascinating way of getting you to completely buy in to his plan through an idea of rigid flexibility, and his ability see the big picture. We make our to do list, and stick to it as we are educated on bourbon in Kentucky, and all the interesting things that Marc has in store for Dueling Ground Distillery. Don't forget to jump over to their ig page, then go to their website, so we can support the only craft bourbon distiller in our part of Kentucky. Between 1977 and 1982, The Who changed in inconceivable ways. They were still a huge live draw, they were making massive hit records, and their tenure as stars of the silver screen was only seeming to grow, but this period certainly contained some of the saddest chapters in Who history: the death of the seemingly indestructible Keith Moon, the passing of previous manager Kit Lambert, and the Cincinnati stampede that left many fans injured or deceased. However, the records the group made during these trying times remain as solid as anything that any group of humans could hope to churn out under such dire circumstances. This transitional time that saw the band bring drummer Kenney Jones into the fray and allowing an outside keyboardist to appear on the stage with the group in the form of John "Rabbit" Bundrick. Meanwhile, Pete Townshend's solo successes sometimes overshadowed those of his main group. Join host, Marc With A C, for this highly emotional episode leading us into some of the most hotly debated moves that The Who would ever make. And to think... we're only half of the way through this season! This episode we explore Rough Mix, Who Are You, The Kids Are Alright, McVicar, the soundtrack version of Quadrophenia, Empty Glass, Face Dances, Too Late The Hero, All The Best Cowboys Have Chinese Eyes, and a few other assorted sundries from this era! Be sure to check out our full index of every record discussed - over in our Reverb LP record bin! See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.
Our first episode saw the band rise from humble beginnings all the way to 1969, when The Who had somehow made themselves world famous for writing a rock opera about a physically challenged boy with a talent for... pinball? Of course, you'd celebrate such a feat with a tour of revered opera houses and then record a live album in a glorified school cafeteria, wouldn't you? I mean, it just makes sense.Join host Marc With A C as he traces the connection between the The Who emerging on the global stage, while the members themselves used their newfound power to explore their own interests in solo records. If you thought Tommy was a lofty premise, well then you don't know "Lifehouse". We explore the unfinished project which would have predicted the internet in 1971; the rock-redefining music that came out of it, and much more: Live At Leeds, Smash Your Head Against The Wall, Who's Next, Who Came First, Whistle Rhymes, Daltrey, and Rigor Mortis Sets In! In our last episode, we celebrated the 10 year anniversary of the Nerdapalooza festival, the first iteration of which happened in 2007 - but we only told one side of the story. This time around, we're talking to Rob Tobias, the main coordinator of Nerdapalooza 2007 in Florida, as well as Magitek, a Florida hip hop group that performed at said event. Their combined tales help paint a much fuller picture of those happenings-ten-years-time-ago. Plus, we've brought along some tasty jams! Let's face it, nerdy music would hardly exist if it weren't for nostalgia. So let's get nostalgic this episode - because it's been 10 years since the first Nerdapalooza! In this episode, Marc With a C talks to the face of Nerdapalooza, John "Hex" Carter, about one of the most important milestones in the history of the nerd music genre. Yes, this beloved music festival is now old enough to look back on. Time just flies by doesn't it? I They look back on the formative years of the earliest fests bearing this hallowed name, while we traipse through some of those early tunes from those bygone days - sandwiched by a couple of new nerdy jams for good measure! Johnny, Duce and special guest host: Nathan Rapert are joined by local Orlando Icon, Marc with a C! Marc talks about his love of Vinyl, Frank Zappa and playing live shows! Check it out! Marc was born at a very young age. He’s been obsessively making lo-fi nerdy pop jams for about eighteen years now, and his latest album is called Unicorns Get More Bacon, as well as a side EP called Half Serious, Half Kidding. Spent part of 2017 in Canada making a record with Jordon Zadorozny (Blinker The Star, Chris Cornell, Hole, Mandy Moore, The Lemonheads). Marc’s been featured in Wired magazine, has won the Orlando Weekly award for Best Indie Act in 2003, 2010 and 2011, nominated for Best Singer/Songwriter for three years running in the same publication, has played festivals you might have heard of, and his live shows are sweaty pop workouts – whether he’s playing solo or with his trio. His last seven albums have gone to #1 on Bandcamp’s indie pop vinyl charts within days of release, and he’s considered “canon” in the Rocky Horror universe due to his songs appearing on the blu-ray for the sequel, Shock Treatment. He’s also shared stages and toured with the likes of They Might Be Giants, The Dead Milkmen, The Protomen, Judy Tenuta and a number of other artists that excite a very small portion of the world. A staunch advocate for vinyl, Marc will talk your ear off about The Who and The Monkees for hours if given the chance. He’s also quite punctual. Ask around. marcwithac.bandcamp.com patreon.com/marcwithac facebook.com/marcwithacmusic twitter.com/marcfi instagram.com/marcwitha

Host Mat Bradley-Tschirgi starts things off with an interview with indie musican and Sequelcast 2 theme performer Marc with a C to talk about his upcoming vinyl release of Shock Treatment Interpretations. Then, hosts Mat Bradley-Tschirgi and William Thrasher talk about Disney's Fantasia with guest Alexander Miller (Writer for Battleship Pretension, Talk Film Society, and Film Inquiry). Walt Disney sunk a lot of money into this artsy combination of classical music and animation, but it took years for Fantasia to make its money back. There's a lot of iconic sequences in here; The Sorcerer's Apprentice segment with Mickey Mouse later inspired a live-action movie of the same name starring Jay Baruchel and Nicolas Cage. Alexander loves diving into Martin Scorsese's World Cinema Project No. 2 box set. Mat enjoys the music drops and lighter tone of the new Netflix series Glow. Thrasher fired up a camp sci-fi car chase cult favorite Megaforce. Listen to this episode while flooding a room full of brooms for maximum enjoyment. Before there was "reality TV" there was Shock Treatment - a side-step sequel to The Rocky Horror Picture Show that confounded fans and slipped in under moviegoers' radars in 1981. No sweet transvestites here, just Brad and Janet trapped in a televised torture chamber that looks eerily like America in the 21st century. The film faded into obscurity, where it would've languished were it not for some die-hard fans, among them the lo-fi musician and familiar voice here on The Nerdy Show Network, Marc With A C. In this episode, Marc and Cap share everything you need to know about this hidden gem of b-movie musicals: the actor strike that led to massive changes in the plot, the fandom that re-discovered it, and the weird story of how Marc's just for fun covers of the songs turned into a beloved piece of the Shock Treatment legacy (now being pressed on vinyl to coincide with the Blu-ray release). We also have a Rocky Horror bombshell to drop as Marc's journey to license these songs shed some light on the long-rumored, often-denied follow-up film, Revenge of the Old Queen. On election eve, Kent (@fistofthemfk) sits down with one of Orlando's greatest musicians, Marc With A C! (@marcfi) Marc has been making music for over 15 years and became a part of the community when he played at the first Nerdapalooza in Orlando way back in 2008. We talk about that, Marc's origins, his approach to making music, including while on Ambien! We also talk about future projects, why unicorns get more bacon, and how fans value art and music these days. Check out Marc With A C at www.marcwithac.com. "The Meltdown" theme made by RoboRob

Nerds are by definition outsiders. If you think differently, loose yourself in fiction or history, or do something strange that the "normies" can't categorize, you're certain to find yourself walking a more solitary path. Lucky us the way ahead has been lit by the luminary nerds before us. Luckier still that we lived in a world with David Bowie, a nerd who transformed our reality into a weirder, wilder, geekier place. Join Cap and Marc With A C, two Bowie-obsessed peoploids, as they share their love of this Lad Insane and personal stories of how the Thin White Duke changed their lives. It's a crash course for the ravers and the novices too with tales from deep in small town record bins and long-forgotten shopping malls, a first-hand account of the longest show Bowie ever played, and strange or little-known facts about the wild-eyed boy from Brixton.
