Hello, Kaiju Lovers! Neil Riebe makes a dangerous journey to Hong Kong to join Nate for another “Godzilla Redux” with Son of Godzilla. This film was made in the “Year of the Kaiju,” 1967, and along with King Kong Escapes, was Toho's big contribution to it. The studio's “B team,” led by director Jun Fukuda, returned to helm this island adventure…that infamously introduced fans to “the Jar Jar Binks of the Godzilla franchise,” Minilla (aka Minya). But it also has some impressive insect kaiju. Believe it or not, this was made as a date movie…for very Japanese reasons! All this and more in the latest MIFV!

This week to celebrate Father's Day we have a look at the 1967 film SON OF GODZILLA. This is Episode #373!Son of Godzilla (怪獣島の決戦 ゴジラの息子, Kaijū Shima no Kessen: Gojira no Musuko, lit. Monster Island's Decisive Battle: Godzilla's Son) is a 1967 Japanese kaiju film directed by Jun Fukuda, with special effects by Sadamasa Arikawa, under the supervision of Eiji Tsuburaya. Produced and distributed by Toho Co., Ltd, it is the eighth film in the Godzilla franchise. It stars Tadao Takashima, Akira Kubo, Akihiko Hirata, and Beverly Maeda, with Hiroshi Sekita, Seiji Onaka, and Haruo Nakajima as Godzilla, and Marchan the Dwarf as Minilla.Son of Godzilla received a theatrical release in Japan on December 16, 1967, and was released directly to television in the United States in 1969 through the Walter Reade Organization.
Byrd, Matt and Kevin talk about Toho's web puppet show, Godziban! Godziban is a YouTube puppet show created by Toho and puppetry troupe Studio Koganemushi (after they were winners in Toho's Gemstone talent scouting contest). The show follows three young Godzilla brothers, Godzilla-kun, Minilla, and Little as they practice to be great monsters and have adventures running into the likes of King Ghidorah, Baragon, Rodan, Angilas, Ebirah, Mothra and other Toho monsters. We review the first two seasons of the show as well as cover Studio Koganemushi's history in the kaiju genre. We also talk about Toho's Gigan suit crowdfunding campaign failing and the plans for Legendary to open a theme park in France with Godzilla and Kong attractions. Listen and enjoy!
You come at the king, you'd best not miss. In this case, they've come at Godzilla, the King of Monsters, and stolen his horrible little son Minilla. I personally would be happy to let Minilla languish forever in captivity, but parental instincts run deep even for a skyscraper-sized atomic-powered dinosaur... and the result is one of the best Game Boy puzzle action games to date. So, hey, thanks for existing, Minilla. I guess. On the import tip this episode: Nekojara Monogatari, another of Kemco's reworkings of the Shadowgate engine into a role-playing adventure game. This one has a theme of kitty cats. It has never been fan-translated, a state of affairs I would love to see resolved; it's a pretty neat little game, from what I can tell. Video Works is funded via Patreon (http://www.patreon.com/gamespite) — support the show and get access to every episode up to two weeks in advance of its YouTube debut! Plus, exclusive podcasts, eBooks, and more! Books coming soon.
The Kaiju Avengers have assembled to battle King Ghidorah and slug-women from space. The only question is, can Minilla save the day? Thanks for listening campers. Who's your favorite kaiju? Follow on Instagram for more @camp_kaiju --- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/camp-kaiju/support
Hail to the king, baby; it's Godzilla time! Tune in as we talk about that big lizard, his progeny, and the planes trains and automobiles that he kicks around. There's also a quick detour into the Godzilla '98 soundtrack because nothing says "Godzilla" quite like Jamiroquai.
Ben and Hank finally watched the two Showa era Godzilla films that Hank left off of the Godzilla bracket. They're... not great, but they are still Godzilla movies. The two movies we're talking about this week are Ebirah, Horror of the Deep (1966) aka Godzilla versus the Sea Monster aka Godzilla, Ebirah, Mothra: Big Duel in the South Seas and All Monsters Attack (1969) aka Godzilla's Revenge aka Godzilla, Minilla, and Gabara: All Monsters Attack. As new releases are finally starting to come out, Stefan and Chris finally decide to go back to the Godzilla franchise! Serving as both a revival and a soft reboot of those original episodes, the two of them make fun of not only the films they’re covering, but also how cringey they were in season 1! Have their opinions changed on the movies they covered in 2019? What do they think of Minilla? Is Destroy All Monsters the final film in the franchise? What happened to Craig? Why can’t Anchor give us enough room to add Godzilla, Mothra & King Ghidorah: Giant Monsters All-Out Attack into the episode title? It's a HEAT WAVE! Or perhaps a sudden SNOW STORM instead?! On this summertime episode of Earth Destruction Directive, we are heading out to the isolated tropical paradise (yeah right...) Solgell Island as we take a look at Son Of Godzilla! When weather experiments go awry on a Pacific island, the team there soon find themselves surrounded by monsters great and small, including Godzilla's never-before-mentioned kid! Then we shift from the South Seas to Midtown as Godzilla rampages through the American Museum of Natural History -- so somebody call the Fantastic Four! Did somebody say "It's Clobberin' Time"? (Spoilers: Nope.) Plus plenty of news, listener feedback, and a cameo by Tom Selleck! No, really!
