North Carolina is still in search of the guys it wants to fill the frontcourt vacancies left by Armando Bacot and Harrison Ingram. One possibility to fill Ingram's shoes is FSU transfer Jamir Watkins, who the Tar Heels got familiar with this year up close and personal. How would Watkins' all-around game bring a unique dynamic to the Tar Heels? Another potential target could be Samford transfer Achor Achor, who went toe to toe with Kansas and Hunter Dickinson in the NCAA Tournament, nearly taking down the mighty Jayhawks. Regardless what happens with these two potential targets and Carolina choosing to pursue them, there are other frontcourt players out there for the Tar Heels to go after.Locked On Tar Heels Discord: https://discord.gg/DGhGSEPP2d Follow & Subscribe on all Podcast platforms…
Alabama & Nate Oats got great news early Sunday when Rutgers transfer Cliff Omoruyi committed to the Tide over North Carolina, Kansas St., and Georgetown. For Bama, are they now the SEC favorites...particularly if Mark Sears comes back? On the UNC side of things, the Tar Heels continue to search for Armando Bacot's replacement. Duke transfer Sean Stewart commits to Ohio State, continuing to help fill out new head coach Jake Diebler's first transfer class. Elsewhere Khalif Battle commits to Goznaga while Norchad Omier is going to Miami.Join the Locked On College Basketball Discord: https://discord.gg/bsKxDp8Qqb Follow & Subscribe on all Podcast platforms…

Rutgers transfer center Cliff Omoruyi chose Alabama over North Carolina, Kansas State, and Georgetown. That decision leaves the Tar Heels still in search of an Armando Bacot replacement in the frontcourt. What will UNC's next move be? Is Jalen Washington now the answer or will they continue to search for a big? What about PF? Belmont transfer and rising junior SF Cade Tyson has committed to the North Carolina Tar Heels. He becomes the first commit for UNC in this cycle (save for Seth Trimble pulling out of the portal to return). Tyson is the brother of former Clemson Tiger Hunter Tyson and will have two years of eligibility for Hubert Davis. The Tar Heels still have three scholarships to utilize for 2024-25. How will Hubert Davis and company elect to utilize them? We know they are in the market for a PF, with Kentucky transfer Adou Thiero as the key target. UNC is also looking for a C to replace Armando Bacot, with Tennessee transfer Jonas Aidoo and Rutgers transfer Cliff Omoruyi the current targets. Carolina is still awaiting official word from reigning ACC Player of the Year RJ Davis, whom is expected to return.Locked On Tar Heels Discord: https://discord.gg/DGhGSEPP2d Follow & Subscribe on all Podcast platforms…
RJ Davis is reportedly set to return to Chapel Hill to play for Hubert Davis and the North Carolina Tar Heels for a fifth year, is he now the favorite to win college basketball's National Player of the Year Award? And with Seth Trimble also returning for the 'Heels, is North Carolina positioned to be a top three team in the preseason? Or do they still need to add transfer portal stars to replace Armando Bacot and Harrison Ingram?John Calipari and the Arkansas Razorbacks secured a commitment from Karter Knox, a former Kentucky commit, which could be the tip of the iceberg as a pair of other former Wildcat commits in Boogie Fland and Billy Richmond are in Fayetteville on a visit. Will Cal get the whole band back together? How will Mark Pope respond for the 'Cats? And what does Ugonna Onyenso entering the transfer portal mean?We close the show discussing six different transfer portal commitments, including Jordan Pope going from Oregon State to Texas and Trey Townsend going from Oakland to Arizona.Join the Locked On College Basketball Discord: https://discord.gg/bsKxDp8Qqb Follow & Subscribe on all Podcast platforms…

The North Carolina Tar Heels have had confirmed conversations with Stanford transfer Andrej Stojakovic (per Inside Carolina), the son of Peja. The question: Is Stojakovic a primary target for UNC or more of a back-up plan in case Carolina can't land Cade Tyson (who is on a visit to Chapel Hill this weekend)? Harrison Ingram's production and numbers certainly went up after transferring from the Cardinal.Big man portal target Jonas Aidoo (Tennessee transfer) is visiting Baylor this weekend and received a crystal ball prediction from 247Sports' Travis Branham to the Bears. IF that ends up coming to fruition, the Tar Heels would be down to Cliff Omoruyi (Rutgers) or Danny Wolf (Yale) of their current Armando Bacot replacement targets. Kentucky transfer Aaron Bradshaw and Stanford transfer Maxime Raynaud are both off the board now with Bradshaw committing to Ohio State and Raynaud deciding to stay put. Other possible names include Oumar Ballo (Arizona), Cliff Omoruyi (Rutgers), Danny Wolf (Yale), and most recently, Tennessee's Jonas Aidoo. Last Friday, James Okonkwo announced plans to enter the transfer portal. On Tuesday, the day after the National Championship, Seth Trimble did the same. As things stand currently, those are the only two Tar Heel defections of any kind (transfer or NBA Draft). Will Coach Hubert Davis see any other players transfer out this offseason? We wait to find out. What holes are still in the roster? The biggest is the one vacated by Armando Bacot at the center position. UNC needs another big to fill out the frontcourt. Additionally, the Heels lost their starting Small Forward, Cormac Ryan. Is his replacement already on the roster, or will Coach Davis go looking to fill that void as well? North Carolina's rising junior guard Seth Trimble announced on Tuesday, April 9 that he is entering the transfer portal. This is sad news for the Tar Heels, but unfortunately not unexpected in this day and age of college athletics. Trimble is the second Tar Heel to go portaling, joining James Okonkwo. Armando Bacot, Cormac Ryan, and Paxson Wojcik were all out of eligibility. Is Trimble's decision an indication of the plans of other backcourt players such as RJ Davis or Elliot Cadeau? The entirety of UNC is in wait and watch mode for news about ACC Player of the Year RJ Davis. Will he come back to Carolina to utilize his COVID eligibility? One of the factors we've been watching is the status of Deja Kelly, Davis' girlfriend and part of the UNC women's basketball team. Kelly entered the transfer portal on Monday so the question becomes – what, if any, affect will that decision have on Davis' future plans? In a similar vein, with John Calipari leaving Kentucky for Arkansas, what affect, if any, will that decision have on UNC and college basketball as a whole?Arizona's big man Oumar Ballo entered the transfer portal on Monday. North Carolina will have to turn over a new leaf next year when a name other than Armando Bacot will announced as the starting center. Does Hubert Davis believe that player is already on the roster in the form of Jalen Washington? Or will the coaching staff scour the transfer portal for some to challenge Washington for the starting job? There are possibilities in the Bacot mold, such as FAU transfer Vlad Goldin or Utah St. transfer Great Osobor. There are also possibilities in more of the shooting mold like Stanford's Maxime Raynaud or Yale's Danny Wolf. Perhaps the best option is someone in between – in the mold of Auburn's Johni Broome (who is not in the portal).Further complicating the Bacot replacement search is the fact that James Okonkwo entered the transfer portal. RJ Davis received some more hardware and two more Tar Heels have been named to the Hall of Fame. The end of North Carolina's basketball season comes with an opportunity to revisit preseason bold predictions. Some go well, others…not so much. The biggest offseason storyline for the North Carolina Tar Heels men's basketball team will be RJ Davis' decision to return (or not) for his fifth year of college, allowed because of COVID. UNC is guaranteed to lose Armando Bacot, Davis' partner-in-crime. If Davis leaves as well, the Tar Heels will have lost their two lynchpins from this year's roster. Davis' timeline to make his decision will also play a role in UNC's ability to fill out areas of need on their roster. Incoming freshmen Ian Jackson and Drake Powell participated in the 2024 McDonald's All-American game on Tuesday night. Both showed great flashes, but it was Jackson's scoring output that really opened people's eyes. To win in the NCAA Tournament, a team cannot simply rely on their star, on in North Carolina's case, their big two - RJ Davis and Armando Bacot. Simply put, other guys must step up in key moments throughout each game in order to advance to the next round. Harrison Ingram, Seth Trimble and the rest of the Tar Heel bench stepped up and showed out as the Heels survived an early punch from Michigan State, winning 85-69 to move on to Los Angeles and the Sweet 16. We'll get to your primer on the college basketball season, but first a little football news. The commissioners who run the College Football Playoff have agreed on a revenue split and a TV deal for the CFP beyond 2026, but they haven't settled on a format. The 14-team model commissioners had proposed is not a sure thing because ESPN doesn't want to pay more for additional games. Now it's time to talk about a postseason tournament that knows what it is. On3's resident bracketologist James Fletcher III joins to help make you sound like an expert this weekend as you drink green beer and watch the NCAA Tournament bracket reveal. We'll take you through the 2023-24 basketball season from the start to this weekend. We'll remind you of the established stars (Purdue's Zach Edey, North Carolina's Armando Bacot) and introduce you to the new stars (Tennessee's Dalton Knecht, Indiana State's Robbie Avila). James will break down the teams on the bubble and explain who has a chance to make the field with another conference tournament win or two. We'll also be on the lookout for any bid thieves. James also will take you through the top of the seed lines and fill you in on the teams that could wind up in the Final Four if they get hot next week. Want to watch the show instead?
