This week on Finding Your Bliss, Celebrity Interviewer and Bliss Coach Judy Librach is joined by Linda Kohanov! Linda Kohanov is the author of the Tao of Equus, which has now been revised and reprinted in a new and exciting edition. She's on the show to talk all about her connection with horses and how they can teach us to have better relationships and be better humans on this planet. A 5 time author and an internationally recognized author, speaker, and educator, she specializes in exploring the power and potential of the horse-human bond. Linda specializes in developing and teaching socially intelligent leadership, nonverbal communication, and other advanced human development skills. In 1997, she founded a Southern Arizona-based collective of educators, coaches, counselors, and horse professionals exploring the power and potential of the incredible connection between horses and humans. The organization, Eponaquest Worldwide, has grown to serve clients on six continents. Linda's first bestselling book The Tao of Equus was selected as one of the top books of 2001 by Amazon.com and received appreciative reviews in diverse publications. This title, and her subsequent four books, have been translated into French, German, Dutch, and Czech, and are used as texts at universities. In 2013, Linda's fourth book The Power of the Herd: A Nonpredatory Approach to Social Intelligence, Leadership and Innovation explored what horses have to teach us about leadership and social intelligence, with extensive historical and scientific research showing why the world's most innovative and effective leaders, from Alexander the Great to the Buddha to George Washington and Winston Churchill, were exceptional horsemen who honed the nonverbal skills associated with leadership presence on horseback. The book also translates the practical skills horses teach directly to use at work, school, home, and in religious, political and social activism contexts. Linda's fifth book The Five Roles of a Master Herder, was published in June 2016, and has been translated into multiple languages. Over the last decade, Linda has appeared at numerous conferences, universities and retreat centers, including the Organization Development Conference, the Omega Institute in New York, Naropa University in Boulder, CO, the University of Arizona, Prescott College, the International Transpersonal Conference, Hollyhock British Columbia, and the 2008 Equine Guided Education Conference, among many other venues. She has been a leadership trainer for Raytheon since 2007, and has also led trainings for executive teams at Nike, Chubb Insurance, Best Friends Animal Sanctuary, and the Bensman Group of financial advisors, among other companies. In 2014, she led a master class on the Five Roles of a Master Herder in Paris at the Executive MBA Program “Leading Innovation in a Digital World” de l'Institut Mines-Telecom. Didier Tranchier, head of this international program, wrote that this presentation “changed my life and the life of everyone in the conference room. Explaining the differences between a dominant and a leader, and the usefulness of predatory power when balanced with non-predatory power were real insights to understand how companies are working and how we can improve our efficiency. With very simple words and great examples coming from the world of horses and traditional herding cultures, Linda explained the power of groups and how to build relationships that can enable any individual to steer and leverage large and powerful organizations.” Linda is considered one of the founders of the field of Equine-Facilitated Experiential Learning, which teaches people how to excel in life by practicing innovative leadership, relationship, nonverbal communication, and emotional and social intelligence skills through safe, engaging, non-riding activities with horses. She has also worked with a number of psychologists in the field of Equine-Facilitated Psychotherapy, and regularly ...

Linda Kohanov is a legend. A household name in the horse world and also for many of those interested in shamanism and myth, her bestselling books The Tao of Equus Riding Between The Worlds, Way of the Horse, The Power of the Herd and The Five Roles of a Master Herder have established her as a go to as a reference for the spiritual side of the horse and human connection. Her courses and lectures and method  Eponaquest, keep her busy nationally and internationally. But there is a lot more to Linda than that. her background as a musician, journalist, historian and music critic, as well as her deep inquiry into mythology have given her worldview that sees patterns where others might miss them, discerns structures and connections between seemingly disparate world and - in about as clear a way as one could wish for - sets a gold standard for self actualization: creating a life and career through ones passions that also serves and inspires others.  The world of equine assisted human development owes much to Linda as a pioneer, but her work has spilled over into the non equine mainstream of human development as well. Living in the Sonoran Desert near Tuscon, and opening her ranch to seekers of the horse human connection from around the world, Kohanov has a story that can inspire anyone from any walk of life seeking to self actualize through their interests, their passions, their heart. There is much to learn here as Linda takes us on a journey that gives us many clue as to how we too, might find our calling.Books mentioned:All of Linda's books listed on AmazonTao of EquusRiding between the WorldsWay of the HorseThe Power of the HerdThe 5 Roles of a Master HerderContact Linda:rasa@eponaquest.com Online courses: LindaKohanov.comWorkshops EponaQuest.com Epona Quest InstructorsFind our other shows and programs:https://rupertisaacson.com

Every now and then you have a day in your life where time stands still and you find yourself deep in conversation with one of your greatest teachers on the planet.  That day took place for me the last week of February, 2023, when I got to interview Linda Kohanov from my family's mountain home where I was on a book writing retreat.  After long periods of silence, the questions and conversation flowed for over two hours! We have broken this interview up in to two episodes for just that reason - Part 2 will drop tomorrow, on March 11th.In this episode, you'll hear all about our personal and collective experiences of the pandemic on a deeper level, more about her new dog, Ravi, and how the human-horse system works.  Linda's insights about not asking the question of "who started it," but instead immediatly flowing in to a responding posture is amazing to witness.  We discuss omnivores, and the predatory gaze here, along with probing trust issues, addiction and mental illness in our culture. You'll find Linda's explanation of the 5 roles of the Master Herder fascinating, as she describes how the sentinel role, and all roles may be traded within a herd as well.  For those who do not know Linda's work, she really started the Equine Faciliated Human Development movement in a literary sense the "Tao of Equus: A Woman's Journey of Healing and Transformation Through The Way of THe Horse" back in 2001.  Since then, she has written over 16 books. If you want to find out more about Linda Kohanov, go to www.eponaquest.com for info on upcoming in-person and online workshops. How do socially intelligent animals use emotion? And, what are the steps you need to take to achieve emotional balance? Dogs are socially intelligent animals. We know this to be true because we share our lives with our dogs. They’ve seen us at our best, and they’ve been there for us during our worst. It’s clear that, like us, dogs are socially intelligent beings, which is just one of the reasons why we love them so much! Aired Thursday, 19 April 2018, 7:00 PM ETThe “Way Of The Horse” – A Revolutionary Model For Socially Intelligent Leadership with Linda KohanovPower and leadership are two words that are inextricably entwined. We are all leaders at some time in some area of our lives. But to be an effective leader, one has to know how to use power effectively. In this increasingly complex world, where anyone from any background can instantly access information and resources to empower and advance their position in life, and anyone with a great idea can raise money online and conceive a multi-million-dollar corporation in the corner of a basement or a garage, command and control forms of leadership are on their way to becoming obsolete but learning to share power in a balanced way is still one of our greatest human challenges.Linda Kohanov is an international speaker, leadership trainer, and the bestselling author of The Tao of Equus. In her new book, The Five Roles of a Master Herder, she offers a new approach to leadership, rooted in the collaborative power of ancient herding cultures and based on her decades of equestrian work. For thousands of years, master herders have developed a multi-faceted, socially intelligent form of leadership that combines five disparate roles with unique qualities of leadership. Effective leadership, asserts Kohanov, comes from a holistic balance all five of these roles. The Five Roles of a Master Herder shows readers how to develop and employ them consciously and fluidly in their “modern tribes” of families, workplaces, and other social organizations.Linda Kohanov joins Sandie this week to discuss:~ What can equine-based wisdom and the nonverbal leadership skills of ancient herding cultures teach us about leadership in the 21st century?~ Why is “power” is such a difficult topic to discuss in our culture when it plays such a huge role in just about every kind of group of people?~ How we can recognize which of the five leadership roles we may be overemphasizing and which roles we’re avoiding.~ How the five roles of a master herder can lead us through potentially “explosive” situations at home, and in life.~ Non-predatory power and how we can use it in our daily lives?~ And more…Linda Kohanov established Eponaquest Worldwide to explore the healing potential of working with horses and offer programs on everything from emotional and social intelligence, leadership, stress reduction, and parenting to consensus building and mindfulness. She has used this revolutionary new model with executive teams at such companies as Nike, Chubb Insurance, and Raytheon.Website: www.eponaquest.com

From MasterHerder.com:Across several bestselling books, author and teacher Linda Kohanov has explored “the way of the horse,” an experiential wisdom gained by studying the nonpredatory power of horses. In The Five Roles of a Master Herder, she adapts these horse-inspired insights into useful tools for developing collaborative leadership and managing change.Over thousands of years, Kohanov writes, “master herders” of nomadic herding cultures developed a multifaceted, socially intelligent form of leadership combining the five roles of Dominant, Leader, Sentinel, Nurturer / Companion, and Predator. The fluid interplay of these roles allowed interspecies communities to move across vast landscapes, dealing with predators and changing climates, protecting and nurturing the herd while keeping massive, gregarious, often aggressive animals together — without the benefit of fences and with very little reliance on restraints. She includes an innovative assessment tool that will help you determine which roles you currently overemphasize and which roles you may be ignoring — or even actively avoiding. Through this powerful, at times surprising and moving book, Kohanov will show you how to recognize, cultivate, and utilize all five roles in the modern tribes of your workplace, family, and other social organizations.

Aired Wednesday, 24 January 2018, 8:00 PM ET Linda Kohanov - The Five Roles of a Master Herder We live in a world of complicated relationships. Professionally and personally, these relationships are driven by the traits each of us brings to them and the roles we assume. With disparate approaches to these relationships, problem solving, team building and progress may be difficult to achieve without a deeper understanding of the part each of us play. Is there an older, deeper, and simpler form of wisdom that we can call upon to better define our roles and succeed in both the work place and personal life? My guest this week on Destination Unlimited, Linda Kohanov, says there is and it comes from good old-fashioned “horse sense.” Linda is beloved for her groundbreaking articulation of “the way of the horse,” an experiential wisdom known to riders for centuries but little studied or adapted for off-horse use. Leadership’s something everyone is a part of. Whether you’re a parent, doctor, employer, or even a football coach – if you have influence or impact on others, you have the opportunity to lead, so why not do so greatly? Linda Kohanov, author, speaker, and experienced horse trainer, reveals the five essential roles of a master leader and how they’re everything you need to become the leader you’ve always envisioned. Linda’s an internationally recognized innovator in the field of equine experiential learning. She’s a respected writer on the subject of equine-facilitated psychotherapy. Her newest book, The Five Roles of a Master Herder, helps the reader make sense of previously confusing group dynamics and it helps people to develop a mature, balanced, mutually-empowering approach to leadership and life. Linda’s also authored several other books including The Tao of Equus: A Woman's Journey of Healing and Transformation through the Way of the Horse which was selected as one of the top 10 spirituality books on Amazon in 2001. Whether you believe it or not, you have the natural ability to lead. Uncover your hidden talent starting NOW! Key takeaways: Unleash a super power. A horse can stand up against a human being, a pack of wolfs, or even lions to protect its herd. These non-predatory herbivores have so much more to teach us, humankind, about mindfulness than we realize. Your hidden lesson of internal strength revealed HERE…[07:09]. Uncover a newfound territory. If you want to specialize in business, then you’ll study business. The same will apply to any specialization, but research shows that over-specialization can actually make you highly dysfunctional. Learn to disassociate with roles, to break away, with this ONE tip…[11:33]. Unveil a less dominant world. Do you have a family member, boss, or friend who has you walking on eggshells because you don’t want them to explode? Where in a blink of an eye they can make you feel like your smallest, most incompetent self? No more! Combat any dominant person by doing these TWO things… [19:38]. Unlock a new characteristic. A leader shines in new situations and experiences. Their heavy curiosity and confidence naturally becomes contagious to the rest of the group. It draws everyone in, but can it be taught? Yes! Begin practicing these traits by knowing THIS…[33:59]. Tune in and turn the volume up for a dose of inspiration and life lessons. You're never more than One Idea Away from a whole, new reality.

This week on Relationships 2.0 my guest is Linda Kohanov author of The Five Roles of a Master Herder: A Revolutionary Model for Socially Intelligent Leadership About the book: In The Five Roles of a Master Herder, Linda Kohanov adapts horse-inspired insights into powerful tools for developing collaborative leadership and managing change. Over thousands of years, Kohanov writes, “master herders” of nomadic herding cultures developed a multi-faceted, socially intelligent form of leadership combining the five roles of Dominant, Leader, Sentinel, Nurturer/Companion, and Predator. The fluid interplay of these roles allowed interspecies communities to move across vast landscapes, dealing with predators and changing climates, protecting and nurturing the herd while keeping massive, gregarious, often aggressive animals together — without the benefit of fences and with very little reliance on restraints. She includes an innovative assessment tool to help you determine which roles you currently overemphasize and which roles you may be ignoring — or even actively avoiding. Through this powerful and surprising book, Kohanov will show you how to recognize, cultivate, and utilize all five roles in the modern tribes of your workplace, family, and other social organizations. About the author: Through her Eponaquest Worldwide, established to explore the healing potential of working with horses, Linda Kohanov teaches internationally on subjects including leadership, social intelligence, and stress reduction. She lives near Tucson, Arizona.
