And So, She Left: Wisdom from Women Beyond the Corporate World
Alina Kravchenko has always loved inventing. Alina defines her entrepreneurial success based on one simple factor: how much creativity she's able to express as a founder. But being raised by a single mom in Ukraine and eventually becoming a single mom herself meant there was no shortage of people who looked down on them both. When she drained her 401K and secured a patent for SwipenSnap, her one-hand applicator for baby ointment, people laughed at her. Until the product landed Alina a spot on Shark Tank and propelled her to launch TonerBum, an ergonomic weight designed specifically for glute workouts. In this conversation, Alina answers questions like: why does she feel so driven to constantly create? How did she persist during times of immense stress as a single mom? And how can we determine our own versions of success as entrepreneurs? Alina talks about:Growing up in UkraineOvercoming immense self-doubtDefining success as a creative personEmbracing falls instead of giving in to failureWhy pursuing wealth will never make you happy How she created both SwipenSnap and TonerBum We have a new website!Visit andsosheleft.com for full episodes, transcripts, an application form to be on the show, a list of upcoming guests and more.Hosted by Katherin Vasilopoulos. Staying Motivated to Get Things Done How do we stay motivated when we're pursuing our goals? And what can we learn from motivational science to help us both at work and at home? We're joined today by one of the most important voices in motivational science, Dr. Ayelet Fishbach. Ayelet is the author of a new book entitled Get It Done: Surprising Lessons from the Science of Motivation. In this episode, Ayelet will talk about some of the biggest myths or misunderstandings about motivation--some that I think you'll recognize. She'll talk about the importance of how we frame goals and how putting a number to them makes a big difference. She'll explain the planning fallacy and how that impacts us individually and with our projects. Ayelet will help us better understand if we should reflect on the progress we've made--or how far we have to go yet. And throughout the discussion, we'll apply the learning to goals like project delivery, team motivation, earning a certification, exercising, losing weight, and even parenting! It's a conversation I'm looking forward to sharing with you. Learn more about Ayelet and her book at https://AyeletFishbach.com/. What if … ... Nazi Germany had been able to roll out the television equivalent of its inescapable radio network? Everywhere you turn, you see the unmistakable face of Adolf Hitler. His voice echoes in your head, broadcast from a thousand loudspeakers. His wild, gesticulating speech is reaching its foam speckled crescendo. Nazi television is everywhere. Looming over city squares, above the concourse of the railway station, on the factory floor and in every home. It is George Orwell’s 1984 made real, and it was a dream of visionaries working in Joseph Goebbels’s Ministry of Public Enlightenment and Propaganda. In the end, only the small matter of a world war got in the way of the roll-out of a nationwide and unavoidable Nazi television network. Do you like the podcast? My older brother Scott lives almost completely outside the network of modern life: he has no internet, no email address, no cable TV or satellite, not even an antenna for his television. Until recently, he didn’t even have a bank account or a telephone. In this episode, I try to get to the bottom of why he hates computers, and especially the internet, even though the internet helped him solve a question he’s had since the day he was born. In a loft in downtown Los Angeles, artist Moses Storm is currently exhibiting The Modern Millennial, a hybrid between performance art and interactive theater. Displaying his work at and living in the loft full-time, Moses is presenting an uncensored look at the modern-day millennial by giving visitors unfettered access to every aspect of his life. Intrigued by the project from the time Moses first launched his Kickstarter campaign to fund it, Jen goes to see the exhibit and talk with Moses about the piece now that it's open to the public.
