Mike Benton with a special Overtime podcast on Apr. 22, the day the Seattle Kraken introduced Jason Botterill as new general manager while Ron Francis was announced as the team's new President of Hockey Operations. Mike is joined with an exclusive one-on-one with Botterill, along with more reaction from Everett Fitzhugh and Ian Furness.
Salk is fired up to start the show after seeing news of the Kraken promoting Ron Francis while firing Dan Bylsma, along with John Schneider saying their struggles to fix the offensive line is a lazy narrative and Jon Morosi suggesting that Dylan Moore should be hitting leadoff moving forward. Then, they re-air their conversation with Adam Jude of The Seattle Times to discuss the Mariners recent success, Cal Raleigh, Julio Rodriguez and more.
Ron Francis, Kraken President of Hockey Operations joins Ian live to discuss his new role, the reason behind parting ways with Dan Bylsma and what he sees in the future of this team.
We head straight to the Kraken Ice Plex for the Seattle Kraken press conference, where Samantha Holloway, Ron Francis and Jason Botterill are addressing the media. Tod Leiweke also provides a broader view of where the organization is heading. Ian reacts to everything we heard from Kraken leadership as they explained where team leadership addressed the changes they made yesterday. Ian wraps up the big news of Dan Bylsma's firing and the future of the Kraken. We delve into the NHL playoffs, as well as the NBA - we had some very close games in both leagues. Also, are there fan lines that shouldn't be crossed? Ron Francis, Kraken President of Hockey Operations joins Ian live to discuss his new role, the reason behind parting ways with Dan Bylsma and what he sees in the future of this team. Checking in on the Text Line! Jess has bi-cirious fanhood. Crosstalk with Softy!
No, Draft Day is NOT a great, must-see movie! There were big shakeups at the Kraken headquarters yesterday with Ron Francis promoted into a Presidential role, Jason Boterill promoted to GM and Dan Bylsma ousted as head coach. :30- It's time for Draftmas Stocking Stuffers: - All of the rumors yesterday were suggesting that all the QBs are flying up the board and this morning their now apparently falling again. - Jaxson Dart described as a project, Cam Ward would be the 7th QB in last year's draft and there's mixed rumors about the Saints as well. - Mason Graham has been wearing Jags gear which sparked speculation that he was headed to Jacksonville, but that doesn't seem to be the case. - A lot of the final mocks are coming out and based on Chuck's research, the large consensus shows that the Seahawks will take Tyler Booker at 18. :45- Rowdy Tellez turned things around in Toronto- can he keep on hitting? Tellez struggled to start the season, despite some solid knocks that just couldn't land.
We open up our Draftmas catalogs one more time to peruse the pages of the quarterbacks available in the NFL draft. Is there anyone that makes sense for the Seahawks? :30- EVERETT FITZHUGH (Kraken PxP) joins us after a wild 24 hours for the Kraken. We get Everett's thoughts on the firing of Dan Bylsma and the transitions of Ron Francis and Jason Boterill. :45- Let's go Draftmas Snooping to see if we can figure out what John Schneider and the Seahawks are going to do at 18. Most mocks have them taking Tyler Booker at 18… but he doesn't satisfy the uptick in athleticism they are supposedly seeking. Only 9 guards/centers have gone higher than 18 in the last 13 drafts.
The CephaloPod is back! It's also walking in while SO MUCH IS GOING ON Kraken have made major front office moves! Dan Bylsma has been fired! Why did they do that? Jason Botterill has apparently been hired! Why did they do that? Ron Francis has apparently been promoted to President! What brought this on? Enjoying Orange Slices with Jeff & Ian - ep182 Welcome to another episode of Enjoying Orange Slices with Jeff & Ian, and sometimes Millard!
Bucky has been out for awhile and a lot has happened, so it's time to get his thoughts on the monster Seahawks moves that happened while he was gone. - What was Bucky's reaction to Geno getting traded? - Did the Hawks make the right move getting rid of DK? - Is Sam Darnold the answer at QB? :30- AL KINISKY (Kraken color analyst) makes his weekly visit to give his thoughts on the Kraken changes at the deadline and what he expects Ron Francis to do with all those draft picks. :45- We close out the show with one last thing!
It's Day 2 of Tampering! Day 1 was madness in the NFL, can Day 2 live up to the hype? The Seahawks came away from Day 1 with Sam Darnold as their new QB, a move we are happy with. It saves the Hawks money over what they offered Geno (and he rejected), plus Darnold is younger and we hope he's better. Darnold struggled a bit towards the end of the season and has only had one good season in the NFL- which one was the anomaly? :30- It's Day 2 of Tamperfest and the Seahawks need to address some key O-line issues, but it won't be easy… especially since Will Fries just signed with the Vikings and we aren't sure that Schneider has even woken up yet! Is John Schneider going to change his philosophy and step up to pay free agents? We sure hope so! :45- Ron Francis joined us yesterday to talk about the moves the Kraken made ahead of the NHL Trade Deadline. The team has a lot of draft picks, but no, they aren't planning on using them all in the draft!
The Mar. 10 episode of Kraken Weekly, hosted by Mike Benton and joined by Ian Furness. Guest is GM Ron Francis, along with Sunday reaction from head coach Dan Bylsma and Jordan Eberle.

The Bjorkstrand/Gourde for Mikey Eyssimont and a boatload of picks trade! The Brandon Tanev Trade! Why both were painful but necessary! Ron Francis vowed to make this team better in the offseason! On today's Daily Puck Drop, we cover the incident involving Yankees manager Aaron Boone and home plate umpire Hunter Wendelstedt. if you didn't see it or hear it, Wendelstedt ejected Boone for something he thought he heard from the dugout but video footage showed it was actually a fan in the stands sitting behind the dugout. Wendelstedt doubled down after the game with a pool reporter and claimed it came from the Yankees dugout. MLB needs to do somthing about their umpire problem. it continues to erode the integrity of the game. NFL draft coming up on Thursday, we have Danny Kelly from The Ringer on the show later today. Kelly's episode drops at 1pm on all platforms. What should the Seahawks do at 16? Agree with Kelly, if Troy Fautanu is there, you run to the podium and make him the selection, even if Michael Penix is available, still take Fautanu! There is no doubt that one, two or three of these quarterbacks taken in the first round will not work. Who will it be? I think that quarterback will be Jayden Daniels. I explain in today's show. Last thing on the draft, "Puck's Draft Watch Party" coming up Thursday at 5pm. We'll broadcast live on YouTube: PuckSports and on X/Twitter @Puck2040, in addition at PuckSports.com. My guests include, Mike Garafolo, NFL Network, who will be in the network studios in Los Angeles tracking all the picks and trades. NO ONE will have that access! Also joining on Thursday are: Rob Staton, SeahawksDraftBlog.com, Bob Condotta, Seattle Times. Curtis Crabtree, FOX 13 and Tim Booth, Associated Press. NBA playoffs were unreal last night...Jamal Murray game winner vs. Lakers and Donte DiVincenzo against the Knicks. Just remarkable games last night. Also talked about my project with Iconic Sonics podcast with George Karl that came out on Tuesday. You can find it anywhere you get your podcasts. Coach Karl talked about his visit to OKC and how it felt going there for the first time. Plus, his thoughts on today's game and where he ranks Nikola Jokic among the all-time greats. Ron Francis met with the media and certainly didn't give Dave Hakstol a ringing endorsement. Was it Hakstol's fault or the GM who put the team together?New weight loss drug? Crystal Meth? Former actress tried it out...should I ??Lastly, Voicemails return!! Log onto PuckSports.com and email me a 30 second message and we will play the best ones on Friday's Daily Puck Drop.
