Let each exhale release, More what if's and how's, Til your mind is completely bare. PAUSE… Breathe… And release. Breathe… And relax. LONG PAUSE… There's nothing you can't handle, There's nothing you can't hold, You're so much stronger than you know. Everything will be fine, Things are always working out, In ways that will help you grow. PAUSE… And all of those things, That feel out of control, Unknowns that make you feel sick. Come deeply inside, And connect with yourself, Staying grounded is really the trick. PAUSE… Imagine them floating, One thought at a time, Out from your head into air. Let each exhale release, More what if's and how's, Til your mind is completely bare. PAUSE… Breathe… And release. Breathe… And relax. LONG PAUSE… There's no good that comes, From holding the stress, In your body or deep in your mind. So let it all go, And open up space, Oh, the relief that you'll find. PAUSE… So sleep now, dear one, And surrender it all, The worries, the stress and the day. Rejuvenate your soul, As you rest deeply tonight, Everything is already okay. Sweet Dreams, Beautiful
There are several different types of yoga, and each has different goals. I'm not talking about different schools of yoga (like hatha or yin yoga), but different focuses of yoga. For example, some routines focus on muscle activation to build strength. Some focus on your range of motion and flexibility to prevent injuries. And others aren't even fitness-focused, and instead are best used to reduce stress and fortify your mental health. So, which type of yoga should you choose? Well, it depends on two things: 1. Your daily goals: What do you want to accomplish today? Are you combining your workout with another routine? Or using yoga as a standalone workout? 2. The time of day: Your yoga workouts should complement your energy goals for that particular time. Do you need more energy and improved focus? Or do you need to de-stress and wind down for sleep? In this episode, I break down the different ways you can do yoga, as a standalone workout, combining it with other workouts, as well as complementing your energy goals for different times of the day. Want to make your yogkla practice more effective and helpful for your goals? Listen now. Show highlights include: Why doing a stretching routine before an intense workout heightens your risk of injury (and what type of yoga to do instead before intense workouts) (1:56) Should you “stack” yoga with other workouts or do yoga as your main workout? Here's when to use both methods… (2:06) The 4 different “types” of Man Flow Yoga—and how to pick which type to do depending on your daily goals (2:21) Why 20 minute routines are the “sweet spot” for unlocking the most benefit from yoga in the least amount of time (5:58) How using yoga as a warmup for lifting, running, or cycling can prevent injuries and soreness and help you set new PRs (8:54) The “Yoga Cool Down” trick for fast tracking your recovering and preventing soreness after intense workouts (12:25) Why your workouts never need to be longer than 90 minutes (and why only 30 minutes is plenty) (15:38) How to pick the best yoga routine depending on if you're exercising in the morning, the afternoon, or before bed (16:46) The Different Types of Man Flow Yoga Workouts (with links): Intense workouts: If you're looking for an intense, standalone Man Flow Yoga workout, I recommend The Fix20 Series or The Clark Workouts. This week I am interviewing Addie deHilster. Addie is a mindful movement teacher whose teaching prioritizes mindfulness from the Vipassana tradition. She blends many styles of movement including Yoga, somatics and chi gong to facilitate embodiment. We discuss how Yin yoga in many ways is already a very accessible form of meditation. You will learn how to apply concepts from Vipassana including compassion, and non-resistance to your practice and how to apply Yin components such as body awareness and regulation to your meditation practice. We know that meditation is so beneficial, but many of us lack the time, knowledge or confidence to really commit. I know this discussion will inspire you to turn the things you are already doing in your Yin practice into your own mindfulness practice.Addie deHilster is a Mindfulness Meditation Teacher and C-IAYT Yoga Therapist. Her passion is teaching movement practices that "unlock" mindfulness skills, and helping students gain traction in their meditation practice so they can be more present for their lives. She is a graduate of the Mindfulness Mentor Training with Jack Kornfield and Tara Brach, the InsightLA Mindfulness Facilitator Training, and the 2014-15 Mindfulness Yoga & Meditation Training Program at Spirit Rock Meditation Center. Have you ever tried EFT tapping? Have you heard of it? I hadn't, until I was in a coaching program where a psychologist taught us the practice. As you'll hear in this episode with Sherry Lukey, an international EFT expert, tapping is a scientifically proven way to calm your stress response, reduce anxiety, improve your performance, and even lessen cravings. EFT stands for Emotional Freedom Technique, and it's an activity anyone can do on themselves. The structure of the process is simple – you tap, with your fingertips, on acupuncture points (called acupoints) on the hands, face. You do this while repeating phrases that help you focus on the emotion or feeling you want to resolve. It sounds so simple and feels a bit odd to do. However, it can be incredibly effective. I've used it myself to great success when feeling anxiety start to take over. I'm excited for you to hear this episode with Sherry, and to give this "untethered" practice a try!Meet Sherry LukeySherry is an international EFT tapping expert for heart-centered high achievers. Using her unique skills and R3 formula, she helps courageous and ambitious people get out of their own way to take so that their brilliance can shine through. Sherry's expertise has been featured in media outlets, including Forbes, Beyond the Couch podcast and ABM FM Radio. She is an Internationally Accredited, Certified Advanced EFT Tapping Practitioner and a Certified Matrix Reimprinting Practitioner. (And by some, I mean myself, not so long ago.)The intention with this series is to give you a glimpse into what these practices are, why people do them, and to help you see if it's something you may be curious to try!If there's a modality you're curious about, I'm happy to go try it and report back.
