Kathleen Bjork joins host Ron Aaron and cohost Carol Zernial to talk about how being responsible for someone with Dementia can impact your life on this edition of Caregiver SOS. About Kathleen Though Kathleen Bjork has always loved to write and has guided many young writers in her 40 years of teaching, it was in retirement that she finally found time for herself as a writer. She was invited 17 years ago to join the International League of American Pen Women based upon her curriculum writing and poetry, and currently serves as the Palm Springs Branch president. She is also a member of The Palm Springs Writers Guild for the past 16 years where she has chaired the Annual Story contest for the past six years. Bjork has had essays published in anthologies, self-published books of poetry, and wrote a blog for four years, which is the basis for her book, My Mother is Losing Her Memory, and I Am Losing My Mind: Parenting The Aging Parent. Her other books include: Poems (2015), Reflection (2019), and My Point of View (2023) She earned her BA in psychology and education form California Western University in San Diego and received a Master’s in Curriculum and Instruction from San Diego State College. In 2000, she was selected as Coachella United School District Elementary Teacher of the Year. She served as a docent at The Living Desert for 16 years and for the past 37 years she served as a member of the Theta Epsilon Chapter of Delta Kappa Gamma teacher society, including four years as its president. She has been a member of the National League of American Pen Women, Palm Springs Branch for 17 years and is currently serving as president. Bjork was born and raised in California, and now resides in Palm Desert. She and her husband have two children and four grandchildren.
